Spent a nice Sunday here in the outside patio at Julienne's in San Marino. It's an interesting set-up 1. Can order hit it cold food inside, but only after you secure a table. 2. No signup sheet or reservations - you just need to be patient and scope out who you think might leave next. 3. After that we went inside ordered and got a number. 4. Our food was brought to us. We devoured the gruyère cheese sandwich on pumpernickel, it comes with a side salad. Also ordered a breakfast burrito it was ok. We ordered two lunch special sets: Tried a half tuna sandwich, side fruit, bag chips, and ice tea. Tried smoked salmon, side salad, chip and coffee.

Ten years ago, they were a sit down restaurant but have since transitioned to a "order and grab a table number" system. They now only offer outdoor patio seating. Came for brunch one chilly morning and the huge heat lamps kept me pretty toasty. Ordered the green omelette and was expecting some green eggs and ham type dish but it was essentially a broccoli taco. Not bad, but it was alot of broccoli. Food is overall pretty good and they have a pretty unique menu too. I would come back but probably only on the weekdays as I can see it getting pretty crowded during the weekends.

I went to Julienne for breakfast after a night shift and it was such a lovely way to start the morning. The space is cute and cozy, and they have an adorable little store attached with Christmasy trinkets and pastries I would love to try next time. They have patio seating with very strong (maybe too strong) overhead space heaters but it was nice to have that option. The staff were kind and welcoming which I really appreciated after a long night. I tried the popular open face smoked salmon sandwich and the breakfast burrito which were both pretty well fresh, clean, and well made. Julienne is just adorable. A peaceful easy breakfast spot, and one I'd happily return to again. I'll definitely be back.

Delicious food with a variety of options. Ready made food items and bakery items for sale To Go. Only outdoor seating but heaters are on covered area of the patio. A great place for breakfast and lunch.

Julienne is an opulent local cafe and pastry shop tucked in one of the prettiest neighborhoods in LA County. And one of the oldest cafe business in the area. This cute little cafe has small outdoor patio, with a French setting. Thus, a very popular breakfast spot for locals. They serve coffee, tea, pastries, salads and American-Mexican breakfast items. I have drove pass by this cafe for years on weekends but always find it too busy or have a long wait. So we decided to go on a weekday. We came on cool Monday morning; we grabbed a table first before placing an order at the counter inside. We had a coffee, croissant and berry waffles. All three taste good, just the way I liked it. Food presentation was beautiful. Staff were very affable and competent. Service was brilliantly spot on. Prices were higher than most cafe shop/restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast. I'd recommend you try this French cafe.

My in-laws & I enjoyed our lunch and my sister in law found her her painting. We had the tuna sandwich and quiche.

I'm really disappointed with my experience at Julienne Restaurant. I decided to come back because I used to love this place years ago, but it's clearly not the same anymore. The food quality was unacceptable -- there was a bug in the dressing, which is a serious health concern. The chicken salad was watered down and dry at the same time, and honestly tasted like cafeteria food. It felt nothing like the quality I remember from the good old days. Service was just as bad. No water was offered, staff seemed uninterested, and they never once came to check if we were okay. Overall, it felt like they didn't care. I was about to purchase the food and asked nicely if they could heat it up (since it's from the same restaurant), but they refused, saying "because of health concern" -- which is ironic considering there was a bug in the dressing. The supervisor, Christina, was especially unprofessional and dismissive. Instead of addressing the issue, she focused on policies and even mentioned charging extra, rather than providing basic customer service. Very disappointing experience. No wonder the ratings have gone down.

Love this breakfast spot. Little far from where I live but worth the drive. Nice beautiful area. Went there for brunch, their omelette with a quick high protein. This spot is more like cafe, you have to order and pay ahead, quick service, Hope to be back with my family.!

Aesthetically, this place is beautiful. The ambiance, décor, and storefront create a charming European feel and make a wonderful first impression. Unfortunately, the food and service did not live up to the setting. I ordered the French toast, which was very dry, while my husband's quiche was quite good. The biggest disappointment was the service. The staff came across as snooty, unapproachable, and uninterested in providing a welcoming experience. While the atmosphere is lovely, the combination of mediocre food and poor service means we would not return.

Favorite place for brunch in the Pasadena area. Lots of good options everything great. There's a gift shop and deli instead too with great products. Love stopping by here to grab cute, fun, and unique gifts too. 10/10. Recommend

Came here on a Sunday morning for brunch with a few friends and it was such a cute spot. I ordered the Chicken Spa Salad, which was good just a big oily from the dressing.y friends ordered the French Toast, which smaller amazing and was a big portion. They ran out of water and didn't refill it so I'd be sure to bring your own water next time. Overall, cute spot with good brunch items!

The escargot is probably the best I've had. I loved how buttery it was and the snail itself was so fresh and tender. I'd definitely repurchase this on another visit. I even dipped some of the baguette bread (which had the best crunch!) into the butter and it was perfection! For our mains, we got the sea bass with lentils and the Alaskan halibut, and both were prepared perfectly down to taste and texture. Everything about its execution felt very intentional. The halibut was baked with the right amount of breading and the sea bass was pan seared to give that nice crispy texture to the skin. My only critique is I thought the lentils were a bit too overpowering because of the huge quantity, but honestly, everything else was amazing enough that I'm not bothered by it.

I first brought her here when she was just a few months old. Now she's preparing for college. Walking inside feels like stepping into a cozy neighborhood French bistro. White tablecloths, soft neutral tones, chandeliers, and fresh floral centerpieces create a calming and elegant atmosphere. Let's talk about the prices. The menu is still the same, but the prices have increased quite a bit in just a matter of months. If you haven't been here in a while, take a look at the menu before you return so you don't get sticker shock. To me, some dishes is double what I remember paying. At the same time, the portions are a little smaller. One thing to keep in mind: La Vie is only open for dinner, from 5:00 PM. to 9:00 PM. I also highly recommend making a reservation. The dining room fills up quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings, so planning ahead will save you the long wait or perhaps being sent away. Dinner time. Every entrée comes with a house salad, soup of the day, and complimentary coffee or hot tea. As I order hot tea everywhere I eat, that little perk is heaven. For our appetizer, we shared the Escargots de Bourgogne ($19). The escargot was fresh, tender, and chewy. Every piece soaked up the garlicky herb butter. They also provide complimentary Vietnamese baguette. The baguette arrives warm with a lightly crisp crust and a soft, fluffy interior. But the real magic is dipping it into the bubbling garlic butter from the escargot. For my entrée, I ordered the Herb Butter Lobster Tail ($56). The presentation was beautiful, but the lobster itself didn't quite live up to the presentation. It was bland. My daughter ordered the Pan-Seared Chilean Sea Bass ($46), and that ended up being the star of the evening. She loved it. The skin was crisp while the fish remained moist, flaky, and buttery. For dessert, we ordered the Crème Caramel (Flan). The server told us the chef offered it on the house due to presentation reasons. But I strongly believe it was because when they asked if my daughter and I were new customers, since they had changed owners, I told them I had been coming to this restaurant for over two decades, and that I brought my daughter here when she was still in a stroller. The owners may have changed, but I believe the chef is the same and he probably recognized me. Either way, it was a great treat. Thank you. The flan was silky smooth, creamy, and topped with a rich caramel sauce that wasn't too sweet. The servers have always been attentive, professional, and welcoming. Our dinner for two came to about $160, including tax and a 20% tip. See you in my next Yelp adventure.

However there was a young hostess with pink hair and the most beautiful, ethereal face who upon our arrival looked at us with an expression of disapproval. When we were there, they had a few different fish specials, steaks, a seafood risotto, and a bunch of others that I can't remember. We ordered the Moules Marinières (mussels) but requested to have it as our appetizer which they were happy to do for us. The broth was exquisite. We didn't even leave a drop behind. It came with a large portion of mussels and great French fries that were nice and crispy. To pair with this dish, we also ordered bread which I believe was $8. The bread went really well with the broth. For our entrees my wife had the Magret de Canard Roti (seared duck breast) which was cooked perfectly med-rare. I tried a bite and was really impressed. So much flavor, and the skin was crispy. I ordered the Braised Lamb Shank which was soooo good. I loved the way that it was plated, deboned, and with tons of gravy. The mashed potato puree was very flavorful and buttery. I would absolutely order this again. For dessert, we got the Tarte Tatin (apple tart with ice cream). It came very nicely plated, and a large portion too. The tart itself was kind of cold-ish, and while it was very tasty, we had expected a tart like this to be served warm as if it just came out of the oven. Presentation was really nice, and honestly it was still really really good, but yes I think it would have been better if it was served warmer. Didn't stop us from devouring it though haha. Overall we really loved this restaurant and look forward to coming back again sometime.

They also serve up delicious quiches, sandwiches, and French onion soup. I love the cafe's cozy and quaint atmosphere, and how friendly the staff all were. I've ordered their quiches and sandwiches to go before, and I've enjoyed each item I tried, especially the spinach goat cheese quiche and the caprese sandwich. I've been meaning to try their crepes for the longest time and luckily, I finally found the chance to dine in. I ordered the La Opera breakfast crepe, which came filled with eggs, cheese, onions, and avocado. It had the perfect balance of textures and flavors, with the thin crispy edged crepe cradling the savory filling. I loved how the richness of the eggs, cheese, onions, and avocado all complemented the delicate buttery taste of the crepe shell. All in all, Monsieur Crepe Cafe is a hidden gem and everything they make is fantastic. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. Might return if others drag me. 4 Stars: Yum! Likely to return. 5 Stars: Amazing! Would plan my day around it.

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. You can browse for a new book, take in the bookstore's atmosphere, and then walk straight into the bar. Honestly, it's the perfect outing. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Perfect for a date, a solo unwind-with-a-book moment, or a fun night with friends who appreciate a good story and a great drink.
