I'm always down to try some new pizza spots and Brooklyn Square satisfied my pizza craving! Huge plus for selling ready made slices. It's always great to see pizza spots offering slices to go or slices to enjoy inside. The location on Fair Oaks in the busy streets of Old Town Pasadena. Parking garages are all nearby or street parking around the building. The location has a number of tables and TVs to enjoy the games. The staff here were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. There were an abundance of ready made slices to select. Per the staff, they have vegan cheese options for whole pizzas, but none for ready made slices. Just as an FYI. They also offer a number of sandwiches as well. The number of items is vast and of great variety. Now for the pizza. The selection was a mix NY slices and square slices. I was looking for some to go. So I decided on the squares cause I love those slices! I went with Pepperoni Grandma and a Pepperoni Honey DeNiro. The staff will heat it up for you on the oven and even cut slices in half to enjoy them. I loved the flavors and the crisp edges. It had a great crunch in each bite and taste was solid. My favorite of the too was the Pepperoni Honey DeNiro. The hot honey on this slice made this option stand out to me. Came by the other day craving pizza and wanted to try something new. They have a good selection of slices and square pies, plus some sandwiches. I got a square Honey Dinero and a slice of margherita. The square was decent, cheesy with crispy edges, but I couldn't really taste much of the honey and it felt a little dry, could've used more sauce. The margherita slice was the winner for me. Crispy edges, gooey cheese, and a good balance of sauce. Next time I'd probably stick with the slices over the squares. I'm also curious to try their sandwiches since they use Boar's Head meats which is usually good quality. Overall a good spot if you're looking to switch it up. read more

I ordered the Meat Lovers grandma for pickup. There's not a good place to park just for pickup, you'd have to find adjacent street parking or park in the structure. I was with my bf so he got out while I waited on the street with emergency lights on. It took awhile and when he came out he said there was nobody around working so it took awhile to get service so that wasn't ideal. As for the pizza itself, thankfully it was still pretty hot by the time we got home. The toppings tasted fresh and they didn't skimp on them. I like a thick Detroit style crust or pan so for me it was delicious. Even my bf who prefers a thinner crust still really liked it. Pizza isn't bad, nor is it great. We tried the NY cheese, grandma pizza and the spinach ricotta slices because, in addition to pepperoni, that was all they had available for pizza by the slice. For a place that offers pizza by the slice, that's really not a lot of options, considering their menu for full pizzas is very extensive. Overall the pizza was really lacking. Limited fresh ingredients and almost no flavor. Not a lot of grease, though. For it being called NY pizza, it didn't have that satisfying chewy texture that I remember. Got the 8 piece chicken wings as well, and the chicken meat was really dry. Service was slow. This place gets a lot of food delivery orders so it can be a bit of a wait if there's a lot of orders that came before yours. I was looking for a good Italian sub and came across this place on IG. I ordered the Italian Bada Bing, some fried Ravioli, and a slice of spicy pepperoni pizza. The stand out here was the pizza. It was well balanced, had a crisp crust, and pepperoni were bomb. The ravioli were ok. And that sandwich wasn't great. I think the main issue with the sandwich was the cheese. I love cheese, but in this case it overpowered the sandwich. Every bite all you can taste is the cheese, and it made the sandwich not that enjoyable. I don't know what they do differently from their pies, but their slices are excellent here. Sometimes the pies come out a little extra doughy, but these slices are the essence of what an east coast slice is. Crispy and thinner undercarriage, no flop, entire slice holds its integrity--all 3 for a little under $16. Honestly, for prices these days, that ain't too bad in my opinion. I was very hungry after walking around the Pasadena Chalk Festival and half a sandwich and a bag of chips was more than enough. I took the rest to go! This is a counter service restaurant. The ingredients are fresh. I just don't find this to be something that I would crave when thinking about a deli sandwich. I tried the deniro pizza. I think it was misplabled as I thought I was getting pepperoni on it. A previous review mentioned a lot of bread or dough in the pizza. I would have to agree. It is flavorful but too much bread. DoorDash introduced us to Brooklyn Square and we've become fans, but today was super disappointing. Since we were in the area, we decided to pick up. The app said it would be a 30 minute wait with pick up ready at 7:14pm (no problem). We ordered a build your own square pie, garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, Caesar salad, black & white cookies, and cannolis. We got a call that the cannolis were out, so hopefully we got a refund. The order wasn't ready until 7:45pm and based on warmth, the garlic knots were made last (pizza and mozzarella sticks were cool by pick up). We're reheating food as I write this review. It's making me rethink takeout if they can't manage timing to keep everything warm warm (same experience that we had with DoorDash, but we thought it was the delivery person and not the restaurant). Second favorite was the Pepperoni Honey DeNiro, a nice balance of sweet from honey, salty from pepperoni, creaminess from clumps of ricotta, a nice balance but one that does get slightly messy and sticky. Came here per request of our son's girlfriend for her birthday dinner. Arrived a few minutes before 9 pm, it wasn't busy. Ordered our food: When order was read back, the order was not right. Minor issue. Ordered 2 beers, and the beers were not chilled enough to enjoy. Did not really want to say anything. Part of our order came out (the pasta). Makes sense, doesn't take long to make pasta. It took approximately 25 minutes for the sandwiches after that. A customer who ordered after us received their pizza before us and it was 45 minutes later. If a pizza order was going to take that long we would not have ordered it! Afer we received the pizza, the lady just handed it over and that was that! It's unfortunate I won't go there again cause my pasta was actually tasty! The garlic knots weren't good. First of all, this is not a criticism of Brooklyn Square. If we could add half stars, I would. First, I was in the mood for authentic "style" and taste of a generic New York pizza. My taste memory is flawed since it's been quite awhile. However, I can remember going to Ray's Pizza on broadway, Joe's, John's on bleaker etc for a slice. It was always the same, very consistent. Not much different from the hundreds of establishments serving Pizza slices. This is what I consider to be plain cheese/tomato sauce New York Pizza. Brooklyn Square is close but not really authentic. I found the crust too thick, and not crispy enough. The flavor was fairly close but not right on. And so the historic ongoing search for real New York style pizza in Southern California goes on. But to finalize this review, it's a reputable pizza parlor. I'm not knocking the place at all. It's just my own search for OG slice. read more

Giving this a 5 star experience because one, the staff is super nice. The lady in the front who took care of my order made me feel welcome and at home. I came fairly late towards closing and we know how exhausting it is when a last minute customer comes in when closing. But she welcomed me in and wanted me to dine in. It was a very pleasing dining experience, is the Pizza the best? Not in my opinion, but it's enough for me to come back and I prefer it over the nearby competition.
