About 18 months ago, they repaired my older car after a coolant leak and engine problems. It was a significant amount of work, but the cost was very reasonable, and the repairs held up well. More recently, I brought the car back after a mobile mechanic damaged it while doing other work. Johnson's evaluated the car and was straightforward with me that, given its age and condition, I would be better off replacing it rather than putting more money into repairs. I especially appreciated that they didn't try to sell me expensive work on a car that was no longer worth repairing. Finding a mechanic who does good work is important. Finding one you can trust to tell you when NOT to spend money is even better. Johnson's has earned my trust, and I would absolutely recommend them.

Don't know…read morewhat happened, but it's been 11 months of misdiagnosis, with my truck released in worse shape (3 times) than it went in and parts not secured when replaced. (twice). I had to take my Xterra back 8 times in a year for an average of 2-3 days each time, having the A/c replaced (3 times- the last two under warranty), the radiator replaced, and still having the noise when the ac was on BUT ONLY when the truck shifted gears! Finally, the transmission locked up, nearly causing an accident as I tried to merge onto a busy highway. Then the nightmare really began! After waiting a week for a replacement transmission, which I was fine with, I picked up my Xterra, and the floorboard and front end were vibrating violently. It wasn't shifting properly. By the time I got home, it was "bucking". The next morning, the antifreeze leak that they were supposed to fix while it was in for the transmission was still leaking, and the radiator was missing 2 of the pins that hold it in place. Had to have the truck towed back, and the owner, Scott, told me, "It's a used transmission. You can't expect it to run perfectly." Took him 3 days to personally test drive the truck and realize the replacement transmission was defective. Another week's wait. Then it took them three more days to determine that the vibration was caused by a loose mounting. 30 seconds on Google: "Most likely cause for vibration under the driver's floorboard, worse in drive: LOOSE TRANSMISSION MOUNT. (And it started after they replaced the transmission)! Scott ignored my "request" that a different mechanic work on it than the one who installed the previous transmission. Twenty-eight days after I first brought it in to replace the transmission, for the problem I complained about for a year, I finally got my truck back! Scott did replace my transmission and radiator (that they had replaced last year), which had "suddenly" developed a broken hose connection the day after they replaced the hoses, and a fan bearing for "free." The first two were under warranty anyway. Then he gave me a dirty look when I presented the bill for (two days) rental car that he promised to pay for until my truck was fixed (would have three weeks). Scott apologized profusely, but I still had to fight with them over the prior year, be without my truck for multiple days over that year, and navigate the transport of 3 large dogs for nearly a month. I had to take my husband's CRV back 3 times, demand that two different mechanics test-drive it, once with me in the car, and watch them pull the front wheel to find the broken strut that had been making a VERY loud noise for several months, and that my husband suggested was wrong when he first brought the car in. Instead of inspecting the strut, they replaced the front and rear brakes (which they had installed one and two years, respectively- less than 17,000 miles ago) and a wheel bearing that may or may not have been bad. In order to replace the wheel bearing, they had to go in where the broken strut was. Claimed they didn't see it or hear it on the test drive. Johnsons will NEVER touch my newer Xterra, which I bought when I had no idea if/when I would ever get the old one back. The old one is being donated to a nonprofit because I no longer feel comfortable driving a vehicle whose repairs I don't trust.

The ole' silver bullet was having some problems of late - constantly alerting me to a coolant problem, idling pretty high, that weird thing where my trunk popper won't work. (Yeah, I know, I'm not sure what's up with that.) The great thing about Auto Know How is that they will troubleshoot with you over the phone to see if it's really necessary for you to come in or to figure out just how major your problem might be. After talking with Laura on the phone for a few minutes, I knew that my coolant issue wasn't urgent but after several months of that persistent dinging alarm going off every time I got behind the wheel, I decided it was time to finally take it in. Turns out I needed some extra stuff done too, which I was happy to have them repair. Considering I've never had major work done on my car and it's 6 years old, I think that's pretty awesome. Particularly since it was less than $300. That's almost a miracle. Be prepared to leave your car overnight, even if you're just coming in for an oil change, because they do get busy these days. I've also found that my final bill tends to be a little less than they have quoted me, which is also awesome. Oh, and my trunk? Apparently I have a valet switch that kept getting locked. Who knew?

This…read morebusiness is, without a doubt, the most unprofessional and disorganized operation I have ever encountered. Johnny and his son, Jaice, are complete scammers. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research before taking my car to them and handing over the insurance check. After the fact, I found numerous complaints and even news stories about their poor service. When I brought this to Jaice's attention, he became defensive and claimed they had more positive reviews than negative ones--a claim that's clearly bogus. I informed Jaice that I work in media and that I was documenting everything. If the situation wasn't resolved promptly and professionally, I would expose their shady practices. He assured me my car would be ready by 4 PM on Friday. However, on Friday afternoon, Jaice called to push the pickup time back an hour. When I arrived, the shop had no power--not due to an outage, but because they hadn't paid their utility bill. They were working on my car in the dark using car headlights to finish attaching the bumper. Johnny told me it would only take 15 minutes (twice), but after waiting over an hour, the work was still not done. I left, saying I'd return the next day. The next day, I called to check in and was told they had lost my key fob. Frustrated, I called Johnny, who then launched into a defensive rant about being in business for 12 years and how "good" they are, all while hurling insults about the magazine I work for. He even tried to justify his behavior by mentioning he's in recovery, though his erratic behavior suggested otherwise. Eventually, Johnny claimed he had replaced my key fob, so I returned to pick up my car. It was filthy, and the bumper was still not properly attached. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, Johnny threatened to call the police, claiming I owed $500 of my $1,000 deductible--despite the fact that I paid what he and his son initially requested, which I have documented. When I called Jaice to resolve the issue, he deflected and accused me of rushing them, which was not the case as I have multiple vehicles and was in no hurry. Their behavior throughout this ordeal was appalling. From misplaced key fobs to poorly completed work, it's clear that Lakewood Collision is running a scam operation. When I mentioned filing complaints with the BBB, my insurance company, and possibly pursuing legal action, Johnny laughed and said, "We hear that all the time." Given their track record, I don't doubt it. If you've also been scammed by Johnny and Jaice, please reach out. I'm filing a class-action lawsuit and exposing their fraudulent practices through the media. This business needs to be held accountable, and I strongly advise against doing any business with Lakewood Collision which now looks like they changed the name to Wreck-A-Mend.
