Pretty subpar experience overall. Walked in at 1pm on a Thursday; no line, no rush. An employee with a septum and nose piercings (not the problem, I have both) appeared from around the corner, planted herself in front of the register, and offered absolutely nothing: no greeting, no acknowledgment, just awkward eye contact and silence. When I placed my order, every interaction ended with a flat, dismissive "is that it?" Same interaction for my partner. I've worked in customer service since I was young, alongside my mother who owns a small business, and this was some of the worst service I've encountered. Meconi's - Olympia, WA It was my first time here so I asked the guy who was ahead of me in line what I should get and he recommended the Italian Cosmo style which means they toast it up so the meat gets activated. I also got garden salad 1000 island dressing* both were delicious . * The thousand Island dressing was actually "Newman's own 2000 island dressing" which was not my favorite. It has bacon in it which I've never heard of in 1000 Island and there was no sense of relish either. Typically I think of 1000 island, it's ketchup, mayo, and relish. The food came out in a matter of minutes and they brought it to my table. I would say a half sandwich is plenty for most people. This is a great place for lunch. Whether you have it for take-out, delivery, or catered, their food tastes great. The service is very fast, although it can get crowded during the lunch hour. I always order online and then pick it up. The ambiance is usually super quiet until lunch. At noon the place gets full and the conversations get amplified. I love their Philly cheesesteak sandwich or salad. The meal deal includes a drink and chips or cookie. Their ingredients are always fresh and their bread is really good. I stopped by this Italian sandwich shop for the first time recently, and I was pretty impressed with the portion sizes. I ordered half a Philly cheesesteak, and when it came out, I honestly thought it was a full-size sandwich. For extra toppings, there's an additional charge. They have a solid selection of soda on tap and teas in the fridge, which is nice if you're looking for a drink to go with your meal. On my second visit, I tried the Southwestern salad with added chicken and chili on the side. They don't offer any toppings for the chili. The salad was great, but the chili was a bit too tart for my taste. One thing to note: you'll have to find street parking, and it can be a bit tricky. I stop by on occasion whenever I can for lunch and it's always busy, but the staff there are great at balancing the lunch rush.

I'd say Meconi's is a 3.5 but since that's not an option I went with a 4. The bread is AMAZING and fluffy and the subs are really tasty but they don't have many toppings. The toppings that they do come with (meat, lettuce, tomato, onion) are also a little on the sparse side. Portion size overall is pretty large though. A 6 inch is definitely filling. The cookies are made fresh each day. Tried the snickerdoodle & it was okay but not amazing. Wouldn't get the cookie again but would definitely go back for a sub because the bread was bomb. read more

I have tried their Italian sub, corned beef and chicken cheesesteak and have enjoyed it all. Their bread is fresh and tasty and all the flavors are on point. Ample amount of indoor seating and food is also out pretty quick so thats fast service. Their cookie also tastes nice. Menu is sorted for folks who like hot or cold subs and some soup as well or chips. I usually get hot subs but I would go back for their Italian subs every time I am in town. read more

It's been a while since I've eaten at Meconi's but man these subs were great. I got the simple combo with the default toppings. I didn't think to get it toasted until after it arrived so that'll be for next time! The sub was generously filled with fresh toppings which I appreciated. Lots of mayo which wasn't necessarily a bad thing but definitely more than I'd spread on a sandwich at home. The bread was extremely soft and fluffy but there was also A LOT of bread to eat if you get the whole sub. I ended up pulling off some chunks. But overall it was delicious and super filling! Definitely worth stopping in. Next time I come back I'd probably use a mustard instead of the mayo, add a bunch of extra toppings, and make sure it gets it toasted! read more

Best Philly cheesesteak I've had outside of the East Coast here on west coast and I'm from new York city.

I love a good combo cosmo'd... but to be totally honest, I think it's a local thing. If you're not from here, you're probably not going to be overly impressed with the actual sandwich fixings. (But almost everyone agrees the fresh baked rolls are pretty great!) Their sandwiches are large. You may be tempted to get a whole, but you really only need a half, unless of course you're sharing. Not overly friendly but not rude, either. Very clean interior and a fairly simple menu board. Chose the "select 3 meats" with pepperoni, coppa and salami. The Philly beef was hot and delicious. The beef was tender with just the right amount of spice. They wrapped it well. It stayed hot on our walk back to the hotel. And the service was pleasant. It wasn't particularly cheap. But a good sandwich is worth the money. read more

Meconis is a place where I have tried all of the subs, and my only issue is .. I have a really hard time deciding what to get because they are all SO amazing. Anytime I have moved away from WA, I have never found subs this delicious, and it's always where I go first upon my return to WA. The bread is stand alone the best ever . The meats are quality , and the veggies are fresh always . I really like the super clean establishments and the people working in there are always friendly, polite, and get special requests done right. I've been to three different locations , I used to live closest to Hawks Prairie, now I live closer to Tumwater . I really really wish we had a location closer to either Centralia or Chehalis . - just a thought Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend you try more than one kind of dub until you find your favorite. read more

I had a craving for a hoagie so an Italian sub from Meconi's sounded like it should work. I ordered via DoorDash. Not sure if I'll do that again because a person named Sierra picked up the order and came to my house and sat outside for ten minutes and then I got a call that my order spilled so it was canceled. How does one spill a sandwich?? It was awfully sus and DoorDash said they'd refund my money in 3-5 days and no sandwiches for dinner. I made another order because I really wanted a sandwich. The next door dasher sent a text saying the bag ripped, but he'd still bring my sandwiches. Finally got our dinner an 90 minutes later then my original order ( I live 8 minutes away) but have health issues from just picking up the sandwiches myself. Sometimes they don't get the order completely correct - items requested not to be on the sandwich are added or items paid for are not added. Just ordered a couple sandwiches from this spot...first one was a turkey, the other pastrami. I've been supporting Meconi's for decades and I have to say this was a major disappointment. There was literally one slice of turkey on this $7 sandwich. Came here with some coworkers after a meeting. As a disclaimer, I'm not super familiar with the italian sub genre. That being said, they make a pretty solid sandwich. The idea of vinaigrette + mayo is a bit off-putting to me, so I got mine sans mayo. Anyhow, the staff seemed a bit disorganized, and a lot of their interactions assume you're a regular, there's little explanation for a newcomer, and am I supposed to get up and get my sandwich, or will they bring it to my table? I don't believe I have ever had a bad sub from Meconi's. I'm old school when it comes to subs. I want a good firm, crusty roll with lots of the good stuff inside. It should drip a little but not so much that you get it on your shirt. The sub should also excite your taste buds all the way through the sandwhich. Nothing worse than a dry sandwhich. Meconi goes the extra mile with their subs. Subway and Jimmy John's are not even real subs by comparison. Service may not always be overly friendly but they get the job done.
