I don't believe I have ever had a bad sub from Meconi's. I'm old school when it comes to subs. I want a good firm, crusty roll with lots of the good stuff inside. It should drip a little but not so much that you get it on your shirt. The sub should also excite your taste buds all the way through the sandwhich. Nothing worse than a dry sandwhich. Meconi goes the extra mile with their subs. Subway and Jimmy John's are not even real subs by comparison. Service may not always be overly friendly but they get the job done. It's the bread. 1/2 size subs are filling. VERY filling. And fresh. One curiosity - they charge 23 cents extra to toast your sub. (46 for a full size). Not 20 not 25 - but 23 cents precisely. (They must have a hell of a cost accountant to know how much extra - to the cent - to charge for toasting). Great does not accurately describe it! In December, I was tasked with feeding up to 60 people in Covid world. Someone recommended sandwiches, well, I just couldn't fathom doing "just sandwiches" for this particularly hard won reward. But, again, with Covid, I couldn't do a buffet lunch, the hassle of keeping everyone distant and safe was to daunting. Then I couldn't find anyone that would even do individual orders, or...., then I found the Meconis website. They do boxed lunches. Great! I called, not realizing the time (early on the way home dinner rush), and told whoever answered the phone I would call back, they probably thought I was upset, but not at all, just didn't want to add to their drama, and had questions. So, I get a hold of Danielle the next day. She is a delight. She answered all of my questions, and assured me they could handle the big order. I did my part and got the order together days ahead, and faxed over a spread sheet sorted by sandwich types for their ease. I called back to confirm she received it, noted some special items (allergies, no tomatoes that sort of thing) and left the rest to fate. While I was not there, my order arrived on time, and when I got there, I had my spread sheet and was all set to sort by people and department etc. and it was all done! Not only was every person's name on the box, also their department and they were boxed by department! Could have knocked me over with a feather. I saw the sandwich sizes and thought they had given me full size sandwiches, but then opened the box with the extra full size sandwiches I had ordered, and was blown away how big they were. Here I was worried that the team would feel let down because they "just got subs" for this big reward, and in reality, everybody was super happy! There was not one special order missing or done incorrectly, they were on time, and the food was simply fantastic! I did not get the chance to chow down at the time, and after everyone was taken care of, and cleaned up, I grabbed one of the extra subs on my way out the door. As I am driving back to Tacoma I finally tear into one, and WOW! It was, quite simply put, no exaggeration, one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Can we please get a Maconis in Tacoma? So I can't testify regarding their overall menu, but I can tell you that they made me a believer and 50+ picky people happy! Therefore, making me look like a rock star!. I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches or subs, but a friend pretty much guaranteed a perfect meal from this family owned business. From the looks of the place, it has to be good. The line was long; almost discouraging to try and grab a bite during lunch. Luckily, they take phone orders AND they have a separate line for you to pay! Awesome-sauce. I thought it was weird that they charge you to toast your bread, but heeeeyyyyy, to each their own. I ordered the "build your own" sub and chose 3 meats and asked for extra pickles. They sure do know how to give you extra pickles. In one spot. All gathered in the middle. How... Wonderful. Thanks for that. Whomp, whomp. Overall, it was pretty standard. Just came out of Meconi's on Capital 20 minutes ago. Quality of food doesn't match up to the reviews. Well, I guess in a way it does. I was born in the SF Bay Area and live in Seattle now. I'm used to eating world class sandwiches like the Cuban at Paseos. So when I read reviews that say this is the best sandwich they've ever eaten, the Cuban is what I'm thinking. I think a lot of these reviewers have never been outside Lacey. The sad thing is, I don't even think the sandwich I just ate was any better than the Subway across the street. I had the Italian large size. It was humongous! If it weren't for the fact that I didn't eat breakfast or lunch I wouldn't have had the room to eat it all. The bread is big, soft, and pillowy. Very puffy, and in comparison with other big doughy breads (like San Francisco sourdough) there really wasn't a whole lot of taste. I think if the bread were toasted it would have been a lot better. Nothing about the ingredients stood out. There was lettuce and tomato that were just there. They didn't sizzle or pop like they do at Roxie's deli in SF. The meat didn't delight. I don't remember what it came with. Was it mortadella, salami, and ham? Whatever it was, it was savory and tasty, but nothing special at all. Hate to say it, but the only reason to visit this place is to support the local guy. Subways breads and sandwiches are right on par with Meconi's. That is, neither one of them is special. Both are very much meh in terms of world class sandwiches. There is a Wagner's European bakery across the street. I would rather try one of their sandwiches before I try another Meconi. I honestly dont know what the hub-bub is about this place. I dislike Subway and this place is better than Subway but really , that isnt saying much. This place is expensive for a sandwich - over 8 for a whole sandwich. I hate that you have to pay EXTRA to have your sandwich toasted. For crying out loud - seriously???????? It costs 49 cents to run a sandwich through a broiler? really? AND, if you want olives - IT"LL COST YA - .46cents Even, if you ask to have something that comes standard on the sandwich removed. So, I save you money on pepperocinis, tomatos, and lettuce, but you charge me if I want to add olives or pickles? Really? This practice just pisses me off frankly and it is enough to make not come here. I hate feeling like I am nickeled and dimed. I never have a real feeling that my business is appreciated either. I really don't understand the hype on this place. I've been a few times for the variety. It's an average sandwich. "Oh, the bread is the best" comments are fun. IMHO the bread is only a transport for the ingredients, which are pretty bland. Subway makes a better sandwich, plus you get more control over what gets put on. Let's be honest, gluten free bread is never that great. But somehow, Meconi's cracked the code-- best gluten free sub I've ever eaten. Soft and puffy, unlike most dense gluten free bread. I've tried their hot pastrami, chicken philly cheese steak, and the Turkey sub, and all had very high quality ingredients on a divine warm toasted gluten free sub roll. Absolutely horrible service here! Been a customer for many many years. After the first incident of making me a sandwich I didn't order (take out, so didn't realize until I got home) I gave them another chance. Once again, they added an ingredient I specifically asked be left out due to an allergy. I ended up tossing that meal and taking the loss. Waited about a year before mistakenly giving them a 3rd chance. I know I should not have been surprised, but... another wrong order I paid over $20 for! I shouldn't have to stand at the counter and awkwardly unwrap my meal to check it before I leave, but that's literally how you have to deal with your order here. The incompetence is frustrating to say the least, especially when you work a long shift, look forward to the meal afterward and it's not what you ordered and it's not edible. This time I went back for a refund and was told they can only remake it or give me store credit. Why on earth would I want store credit at a place that can't get my order correct over and over again? I would NOT recommend getting your food to go here, seems not a single person in the process pays attention to an order. Apparently you can't get what you want, you get what the employees in the back want to make. So looks like I'm out about $45 worth of meals here and absolutely will NEVER patronize this "local family owned" business ever again. read more

I heart Meconi's. I'm really into Tuna and adore their Cosmo Tuna, it's just their tuna heated up. But, that really does make a difference. Melts the cheese. This is the best sub place out of the ones to choose from being Subway or Jimmy John's. It's not a sandwich shop like Wally's. If tuna's not your thing their Meatball sub is ridiculously meaty & cheesy goodness. Also, their 3 meat sandwich, which is your choice (I recommend Turkey, Pepperoni, & Capicola). The classic local sub shop. The half sub is plenty large for most folks, but if you got the feed bag on, then the full sub will satisfy the largest of appetites. My favorite is the Italian which has salami and capicola, an Italian ham. There is only one bread, which is a fine sub bread; it doesn't get soggy from the mayo or oil like at Subway. The new store lost some of the old charm but it does have excellent A/C. They probably moved 4 years ago into a modern building with great AC. They got a wonderfully chaotic local message board and seattle urban papers by the door.The old store used to boast about being "from the east coast," but Meconi's seems to have lost that tag line. I'm from New York and I never thought belonging to any "coastal" club! I'm guessing the out-of-towers go to the Subway across the street. Meconi's has been our favorite sub shop for more than 20 years, but that all changed tonight. We stopped by the shop on Marvin Road and ordered a sandwich. The place did not seem too busy, but I waited more than 30 minutes. Turns out it was ready but sitting in the back and would have been there longer if I hadn't asked. The cashier did apologize for the delay and although I was frustrated, I took it and walked out the door. As soon as I was out the door, I realized that the sandwiches were cold (I ordered them toasted, aka cosmo). I went back in and asked for my money back because I did not want to wait another 30 minutes. The cashier said they couldn't do that, but I could come back tomorrow to talk to the manager. They did not ask what the problem was, or if they could do anything to fix the problem, but they did acknowledge that even though it was their fault that I was out of luck. I ended up leaving the sandwiches there and told the cashier that I would contact my credit card company to stop payment. I am extremely disappointed by the service and lack of any attempt to resolve the issue. I hate to say this but I will likely never go to Meconi's again because I can no longer trust them to treat their customer's well. Any other time I would have given them at least 4 stars, if not 5. I decided to update my review of Meconis and reduce the four star rating to three stars. The main reason I have reduced the rating is because I believe Meconis has begun to count the amount of meat and secondary ingredients that they put on their sandwiches. They also charge you an extra cost for "extras," like, $1.99 for extra cheese on a whole or 12-inch sandwich. My argument with this is that I will have them remove tomatoes and onions from my sandwich, but I'm charged $1.59 if I want them to add olives. Wait a second, Meconis! I actually saved you product, by having you remove tomatoes and onions, but you're going to nickle and dime me because I want olives!? That's BAD business and BAD for the customer. My final concern is that Meconis has increased their prices, without increasing their customer service or quality of their products. Meconis, you want me to pay $8.29 for an average turkey sub? I don't think so. Businesses need to understand that dissatisfied customers quickly equates to no customers and during these tough economic times reasonable price increases must also be matched with applicable increases in product quality. read more

I'm really not a sandwich lover, in general. But I absolutely ADORE the subs and Meconi's!! The bread is incredible and really makes the sandwich (and I don't even like bread). A "half" sub, which runs about 8-9 inches long, will cost less than $5 but will more than fill you up. They only have one kind of cheese (provolone), but it's so good you won't miss the choices. And they put oil and vinegar on every sandwich. I could eat here every day if it was within walking distance to work. My faves are the ham and the turkey. Try it, you'll love it! read more

I came in yesterday after the procession parade. I'm not from Olympia and was looking forward to a snack on the drive back to Seattle. After ordering my food and fountain drink I was disappointed that their machine was out of ice. After letting the girl know at the counter that their machine was out of ice, she snapped back with "there's nothing I can do about that" and continued to take orders. After waiting in line AGAIN to ask for a refund for my soda (I wanted ice in my soft drink) the young lady at the counter grabbed my receipt, smacked it on the counter, and snarled "I'm not allowed to do refunds" OK, I get it. It was procession. It was busy all day I'm sure. But for such and established business, you would think that they would be prepared for a day like this. I have been twice and, though it is an okay sandwich, it is not something I am going to go out of my way to get. The vaunted bread has been overly chewy, the rest merely OK. I hope that this is an anomaly, but for now I just don't get it. I do like that they have Jalapeno chips, but I can't bump stars for that or every bodega would be four stars. Don't even bother getting a sub sandwich if it's not Meconi's!! Meconi's has become somewhat of a sandwich empire in Olympia with its expanded locations and it's really no surprise why. Once you have a Meconi's sandwich, all other sandwiches don't even compare. What sets Meconi's apart from other sub shops is their homemade white bread. It's indescribable how delicious it is and just how much it makes their sandwiches. They also pile the freshly sliced meats on high and top each sandwich variety with thinly sliced white onions, oil and vinegar and Italian oregano. A few favorite varieties are the Italian or the Combo. It's truly one amazing sandwich experience. read more

Honestly, I'm not a happy camper right now. I ordered seven 6" Philly Cheesesteak subs for my team today. I have made the exact same order several times and they've been OUTSTANDING! Today, the meat was dry, the cheese was stale, and there were no onions or green peppers on any of them...honestly, they were some of the worst subs that I've ever had. Who doesn't put onions and green peppers on a Philly Cheesesteak?!? I'll be sticking to the Lacey location from here on out. Biggest waste of $50, yet. :( read more
