The staff was super accommodating ! I called for a takeout order 15 minutes before closing and they were willing to keep the kitchen open for me. Wow! I was blown away by the hospitality and detail by this trendy but still humble restaurant. Lovely servers who were attentive and personable. Stopped in for a burger and poutine during my first trip to Canada and this place certainly gives an outstanding first impression. When I had mentioned to the servers that it was my first time trying poutine, they both stopped by and asked how I was liking it. I told them I was LOVING it! Cant forget an unbeatable view into a beautiful inlet where you can catch some sailboats anchored out in the water. Definitely recommend. read more

The soda pop was fantasic- it helped to choke down the ultra dry chicken wings.. ..as their service was slow to non available in an empty bar? My recommendation is to bring you re own hot sauce when you end up in this place..unless you like to wait impatiently before ordering ,& an even longer time spent still waiting for a bill..it was kinda off pudding ...seemed the waitress was skipping junior high school to be there at work.... sooke needs to work on their fine dining experiences... 0/20 points rewarded!!!! The ambiance in terms of view and decor was excellent. The food was really good. What completely ruined the dinner experience was the loud blasting music. I don't have anything against rock music. I've been here quite a few times and the service is generally very good and attentive. Food is usually excellent and plated beautifully. I've tried many dishes and would have them all again. I have been disappointed a few times with quality and service, but I've been enough times to know that is not the norm. Highly recommended and a welcome addition to Sooke! read more

I felt the need for fish and chips and Miss wanted a curry. We received a recommendation for Stickleback and duly arrived with the rain pouring down outside. It is a warm and welcoming eatery which looks out across the delightful bay. The service was very good, the place is comfortable and the fish and chips were excellent. My girl's lunch, she said, was 'okay'. She did order a side of mac 'n' cheese, which she said was fabulous. It was a pleasant experience, and reasonable value for money Still, it was a good place to go for lunch and we would probably try it again next time we are in Sooke. UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE We went back and ordered a chow mein takeout. Sadly it was not very good. Despite being hungry we chose to dump it and head for the local burger bar. Sorry to say I need to downgrade Stickleback from three, to two stars. read more

Fantastic view of the bay from the resteraunt. I enjoyed the "The Banks", which was very tasty halibit burger. My lunch buddy got "The Hungry Logger", which was massive meat " all the meats" burger. It's very much pub food, but there is enough selection for everyone. read more

Nice restaurant in Sooke, yummy food, great views and atmosphere. I will admit service can sometimes be slow depending on who is working and how busy they are but the food and view is worth it. If you don't come expecting to be in and out fast and relax and enjoy the view it isn't that bad. read more

This place is so good!!! You can eat the amazing food that they served while looking at the water. There are boats everywhere, it's such a beautiful sight. They have tons of choices in the menu but, my recommendations are 1: Tsunami Fries. It's the best poutine ever. 2: Franks Red Hot Chicken Wings. If you like spicy food, try them. 3: Sea to Sea Chowder. There seafood chowder here is so good. read more

I went here for a lunch date with my dad who was visiting from out of town. It was such a great choice! Beautiful views of the boats on the water in the Sooke inlets. Quiet, cozy atmosphere and fast, friendly service! I have dietary restrictions and I found that I had a variety of options to choose from :) I ended up with gluten free, seared tuna tacos! I can honestly say they are the most delicious fish tacos I've had so far! I'm craving them now just thinking about it! Lol We noticed there is also a kayak rental business attached so I think it would be such a great idea to go on a kayaking adventure around the sooke harbour and come back to Stickelback to have a delicious meal afterwards! Well on your way into Sooke you will notice this local eatery on the side of the road. Quaint and with a great view. When we went it was a beautiful day and warm enough to sit on the outdoor patio. We also were just in time to watch some water polo in the bay! The kids loved having dinner and a show. The wait staff took a bit longer then it should have considering we were there just after the lunch rush and we only saw two other tables seated. After we ordered the wait was actually quite a bit longer then expected for some chicken fingers for the kid and fish and chips for me. But with the water polo in full swing and the kids menu doubling as coloring pages the wait didn't both the children much. When the food came it was excellent. The kids devoured their chicken fingers and fries. I also had a great time eating my fish and chips. The battering on the fish was well done and you can tell was made in house. To sum it up, good prices, great food, astonishing view but the staff tends to take their time a bit. read more

Absolutely lovely location with delicious food. I had the salmon 'burger' which was more of a piece of salmon than the usual salmon patty. It had a tangy pickled topping. I also had the carrot and dill soup which was wonderful. The cocktails were local and seasonal and our waitress very helpful. Spot on! read more

The Stickleback is a great find in Sooke. Nestled in a small cove, the outdoor deck is an awesome spot for supper. There is a great view of the Olympic mountains (20 mi away on the US side), East Sooke and Sooke Harbour. There are boats moored in the cove that add to to view. The deck is well constructed and nicely appointed. We only just passed through the restaurant but it is nicely decorated as well kept. The menu is simple and the food was well prepared. We shared the Mussels, prawns, and sausage ($12) and my wife ordered the Potholes Portobello Mushroom Burger (vegetarian) ($11) and I had the Spicy Noodle Bowl ($14). The app was great and came with their signature Bannok (pan fried bread) which was worth the trip on its own; we ordered a side to finish off the wonderful broth the app came in. The sausage are locally made and a hit with my wife. The mains were just as good. The burger was tasty and on a craft bun and the side salad was nicely presented. My main was available in mild, medium or hot and I chose medium. The spice was a bit lower that I would have thought but the taste was very good. The peanut sauce was a bit thick and not quite plentiful enough so the noodles did clump slightly but were easily teased apart with the chopsticks provided. Service was very attentive but they did not hover. We will definitely return and i would take guests there in a heartbeat. Visited July 2012 read more

Food was okay, though, they had too much on the menu. We had the fish tacos, which were pretty good, the fish and chips - not good, and the harvest chicken salad - as expected. The view was amazing. We did go in what some would term the off season, so I wonder if that impacted our food. They could knock it out of the park if they just tightened up the menu and focused on what they do really well. read more

Had friends to brunch on Sunday, Beautiful setting, service excellent, but sort of went down from there. My wife and I ordered burgers, They were both over cooked and slightly burnt on one side. We asked for the fries to be extra crisp, but they came normal, Slightly soft. Friends had pasta dish, which was declared as excellent and a wrap which could have been a touch tangier. Awful awful awful. I have been here exactly 3 times and each time sorely disappointed. I gave it 3 years and went back last night, only to have it worse than before. No clue how they stay open. I was with a date (note to waitresses: take note of the flow conversations and don't interrupt every couple minutes) so I couldn't complain but my medium rare steak was completely overdone and despite being slices, grissled. I could tell by looking at them my cohort's chicken fingers were dry as ash, too. Hot as Hades as well. No air circulation or AC. Doors all open. Flies and wasps flying around. AWFUL! Worth the U-turn ! We were looking for a place to eat outside on our way to Victoria back from Botany Bay and passed by this hard to see place with outside seating. We had the mussels, prawns and sausage appetizer and Tsunami fries. This plus beer were excellent! Tasty, cooked right etc. Will definitely recommend it! The waiter was very helpful and even offered us a blanket if we got too cold. read more
