The place is pleasant as was our server and service wasn't bad except that I think she forgot about us towards the end and we had to flag her down for the bill. Food took a long time to come out. Not her fault... Eggs Benny done three ways was tasty but 2 out of the three eggs were practically hard boiled. No grapes in the apple and grape salad and the chicken was extremely salty. Tasted like a saline solution soaked frozen cutlet. For the prices we paid, $50 with tip, it didn't feel quite worth it. read more

We ordered take out twice from here while visiting on the island, so it was good enough we went back. A couple of rib meals and a caesar salad. The portions were very plentiful and it was all tasty. The half rack of ribs was quite generous as was the "small" salad. We did get one half rack of ribs from which the skin on the bottom had not been removed, a little annoying but not a big deal. The baked beans were nicely spiced. My personal preference would be for the beans to be cooked a little softer, but I'm sure tastes differ on that. Their screens with sporting events might be an attraction for those who like that when dining in. For us, the screen distraction is a negative but no problem when doing carry out. Delicious, unique take on traditional food. The Thai Honey Garlic Chicken Wings were dry with the sauce drizzled on, not drenched. The garlic dipping sauce was wonderfully garlicky. The assortment of foods in a basic garden salad was yummy. I am told the bacon with the French Toast was thick, meaty and not greasy. If you are gf/df, no worries. Wonderful! I had my heart set on a panini. After all the sandwich shops were closed, I saw the beautiful photo on google. I was not disappointed. The house mushroom soup was a 10/10. You don't want to judge this place by it's outward appearance. It's in a strip mall and doesn't look like anything special...but go inside and you will be impressed! I tried the Crooked Goose with my mom on Saturday and Oh. My. God, it was fantastic. When we first walked into the bistro I was blown away by the decor. The bar has, what I consider, fantastic lighting! Your eye is drawn to it and the variety of alcohol they offer. The interior is small yet manages to feel spacious and welcoming. I was not expecting it to look so welcoming and young. Our server was friendly, relaxed, and just plain wonderful to interact with. We started our brunch by ordering some caesars. My mom had the regular Bloody Caesar and I had the Bacon and Blue Cheese Caesar. The regular was a top notch, classic caesar. The bacon and blue cheese one (made with gin) was above and beyond delicious. The bacon was warm so the oils dripped into the drink to better infuse the flavor and the green olive stuffed with Stilton was salty and sharp. A perfect combo. My mom ordered the Chorizo hash and I had the pulled pork hash. Both came with two poached eggs, hollandaise, and toast. The chorizo was perfectly spiced and my pulled pork was wonderfully done. The only downsides were that the hollandaise was practically non existent, in flavor and serving size, and there was only one debit machine so we had to wait awhile to pay. Over all I had a fantastic experience. They try very hard to use local, fresh ingredients, and the quality of their food really does stand out. They manage to cater to different crowds as well and they do it seamlessly. It is great for taking an elderly relative to for breakfast or brunch and could also be an amazing place to go with friends to knock back some beers and have a good time. Worst pub lunch ever. Just wanted a chicken salad or a chicken burger. We were served a lump of 1/4 breast of dried out grilled chicken and pesto was smeared across it. A measley salad instead of greens (we asked for greens jnstead of a bun). There was no love just a cafe style grunge meal. My GF and I were completely baffled as the manager/owner was right there. When we complained he left us hanging should have just immediately said sorry and let us leave. Even the soup was a tiny cup of neglect. No seasoning, not even any Parmesan or pepper...no garnish. We got in late to a VERY suburban Airbnb outside Victoria, without much hope of finding a decent meal at 9 on a Monday night. The Crooked Goose was a pleasant surprise! We were the only late guests in the restaurant, and the manager treated us like royalty. He even brought a sample of an unusual local beer to help us decide what to order. This place is focused on meat and bar food, but the menu also offered interesting options for non meat eaters. We shared a veggie pizza topped with smoked eggplant and feta and a golden beet and arugula salad, and that aforementioned local specialty beer. A great begging to our Victoria vacation. read more

I was really excited to eat here after reading the reviews but sad to say, we were disappointed. The chicken wings In one pic looked so yummy, I couldn't wait to try them. We ordered the Thai honey garlic wings - ughhh hugely disappointing. There was barely any meat on them and they sooo over cooked. I like crispy but this was next level. They didn't look like the pic at all :( We ordered the noodles and cheese off the kids menu for my toddler and I found it pricey. It was 9$. It was a big portion and I'm not complaining about that per se but after a 2 year old puts ketchup on it and has his hands all thru it, there's not much to salvage to take home. It would be better if the 9$ included a smaller portion and a drink or dessert, in my opinion. We also had the beer cheddar soup, it was pretty good. Tastey. My father in law got the pork burger and he said it was meh. The server was really friendly and the space is nice and open. Not really going to rush back here tho. read more

My fiancee and I visited the Crooked Goose on a Sunday around noon. The first thing I noticed were three tables of seniors in their Sunday best, possibly meeting after church for lunch and across the dining room were a bunch of fellows watching TV drinking beer. Clearly this establishment has appeal for all walks of life, which is good I suppose. As for the decor, I can't tell if it was a dump that was prettied up, or a place wanting to look nostalgic, or just "Hey we bought this place and just wanted to get it up and running" No complaints from me on the decor. It was clean and had all the appearance of a mid to higher end restaurant. Our waiter was a pleasant fellow and knowledgable on the offerings of the Crooked Goose. I had the Fat Buoy Burger and my fiancee had the Nicoise Salad. Both entrees were excellent. I have to say when you walk in the door it has a feel of "Hey this is a nice place" Nice tables, nice art, then you look across the dining room and see the dudes drinking watching sports. It has a menu that says "hey try our Duck Confit or Brisket Pappardelle on one page and a "pound of wings" on the next page. It's like 2 different establishments under one roof. Personally it doesn't make any difference to me, but this is a review and people want to know these things. The bottom line: Good food and I must say this is on my recommended list now. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch. From the outside this place doesn't seem like much at all. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I got the soup and salad lunch combo with the soup of the day, which was Portuguese chorizo. The bread was so fresh and paired great with the herbed butter. Flavors were on point! My colleagues had the lamb burger and the steak sandwich. They loved the flavors and didn't leave a morsel left on their plates. I checked out this place with three friends. I ordered a chicken wings. At first I was debating wether to order the seared tuna salad or the chicken wings. In the end I ordered the chicken wings because of the yummy looking pictures of chicken wings in their website. I must say I was disappointed. Their chicken wings is just like any other chicken wings you would get in any pubs. My friend beside me ordered the seared ahi tuna salad. She shared her salad with me and I have to say I should have ordered it instead of the chicken wings! The tuna was seared to perfection. Very delicious. Finally, some gourmet efforts at what used to be Knockan Back Grill . . . Worth returning . . . My lady friends and I enjoyed a Saturday lunch. My soup/salad/bread option was a good lunch for $11: Portobello and button soup in a garlic cream broth. Delicious and not too garlicky, a lot of mushrooms, blended into a thick, satisfying soup. Mixed greens in a house vinaigrette. Healthy and fresh, but too much salt and bitter greens, but good. Mini loaf of bread, fresh baked taste, yeasty and soft inside, nice crust outside. My kind of bread and served with parsley butter. Tip: ask for your pop without ice, as there is more ice than soda. Free refills make up for it. Service is friendly and excellent attention. Nice atmosphere, bistro style with TVs tuned to sports - the leftover from the pub-like predecessor I guess. read more

Worst beef hamburger I have ever had in my life... I don't even know what it was!! Worse than McDonald's!!! It was like some sort of gel fat compressed into a "burger"... I couldn't get past 1/4 of it and that was really hard to swallow. Sent it back... no apology, no refund, no credit offered. I used to LOVE their burgers and so did my friends.. best I ever had and now with new owners it's absolutely awful!! Salad is 10% what it used to be as well. So so so disappointing. This was a very enjoyable experience. My friend was craving the Portobello Mushroom Burger which she said was fabulous. I had a hard time chi icing what I wanted because everything on the menu sounded so good. After asking the waitress what they are know food she said everything is made in-house minus the Ketchup & vinegar. I ended up having a Green Thai Curry and it was fab. Holy crap this place is GOOD!!! On a recent visit to Victoria, we decided to try this place after visiting the Butchart Gardens. The hanger was strong with me, after walking around in the rain for many hours whilst being mowed over by other visitors to the Gardens, and the Crooked Goose satisfied. Their wings are pretty much the best I have EVER had in my life and the burger I had was pretty amazing too. My husband says the poutine was out of this world (I did not try this, as it is not GF) and he kept wanting to go back here to eat for the rest of our stay. My hubby loves the steak and frites. The truffle fries are delicious! Staff is always lovely. They are aware of gluten-free issues, but no guarantee on cross-contamination. Great atmosphere, but the location wasn't great: Wilkinson may be one of the worst designed streets in existence. Good luck getting in the parking lot. Great drink selection (I enjoyed a lovely local brew), friendly and attentive service, and excellent food. The Owners Gina and Steve are very kind, accommodating, welcoming and help create an environment that people of all ages can feel comfortable in. The food is really tasty. From the works wings, to a tomato-feta benny on a Sunday, all of their food boasts great flavor and zest. If you are feeling frisky on a Friday, Steve makes a mean Caesar. Only been a couple of times so haven't had an opportunity to sample many of the food offerings. Could have the best Happy Hour in town. $3.50 a sleeve for all beers on tap and there are about 8. Good food specials too. Had the lemon pepper wings which were good. $10 for a pound which nowadays is good value. Actually got about 13 or 14. Most places giving only 8 and charging $12 to $14. Room is nice. Recently renovated and spacious. Good bar set-up in center of the room. There are 3 or 4 flat screen TVs. Could use 1 or 2 more. The owner Steve often tends bar and is friendly and service minded. Ditto the other bartender with glasses whos name escapes me--he has many witty and entertaining jokes and witty jabs. Staff is very friendly and service is fast and exemplary. Looking forward to returning and sampling some more of the food offerings. read more
