While the pancakes were delicious the $$ greasy steak and eggs were way below par for the price, as was the fried chicken that topped the pancakes. The bread and honey appetizer was delicious though. Started an evening at Meddlesome Moth before heading over to the Grapevine, which is only about a mile away. Parking was a hassle. My companions had to park way down the street. I bit the bullet and went with the valet. The interior is very nice, with rich, warm tones and clean surfaces. You will immediately spot the stained glass windows on the wall. I recognized them at once from the old Hard Rock Cafe when it was on McKinney. Brought back some nice memories! The beer list is not as extensive as the Flying Saucer (though I understand that they share owners). Still, they had some good choices. The menu was nice, and my companions shared an appetizer, which they enjoyed. Had a couple of beers and left after about an hour. Gave a nice tip to the valet, who then told me "you stayed longer than most." Odd comment, I thought. But I admit I was not that impressed myself. I was in Dallas for a midweek Halloween vacation and though that this place looked worth spending an evening. Our group was made of two non beer snobs and two beer snobs (bf and I). I had done my homework and knew what I was interested in while the other three were looking over the menu. Dan was our waiter extraordinaire. He steered my friends toward beers that matched their taste and showed his beer passion when he and I talked about GABF. Flights are well thought out and I bet they will build a flight on any of your suggested themes. Food was perfect. Cheese plate, sausages with some amazing sauerkraut-ish stuff, hummus, fish and chips and I don't remember the other two dishes. I know we all left very happy after sharing the cinnamon ice cream. I loved everything about this place (except Design District is a little inconvenient,, but I will not hold that against the Moth). The design and decor of the building and interior are perfect for its surrounding scene. I especially loved the stained glass. The menu is not your typical bar menu (much more like fine bar dining if you will). I enjoyed my Cobb salad and can't wait to return to try more! My beer of choice was delicious because it was slightly less sweet than a cider (perfect for me!). I only wish I remembered the name! Sigh. The finale was the Peach Cobbler a la mode...WOWZERS!!!! It was a week night, and there was a mixed crowd of after work people at the bar and variety of ages eating at tables (i.e. comfy to everyone and anyone...minus youngins of course). I went here with some friends before an event we had to go to in the design district. It was about 5PM and the place was pretty busy, but they have so many tables that it really wasn't a problem. Their patio is beautiful and the atmosphere is nice, it was a pretty day so the patio was perfect. The staff was very friendly and was knowledgeable, we only had a few appetizers and drinks and everything was beautifully presented and pretty tasty. I wouldn't personally go there for lunch or dinner because their actual menu didn't have very many vegetarian choices, but if I am in the mood for just a drink and a chat with some friends, this is a good place to go. read more

Meddlesome Moth seems to be a first mover in this cove of the design district. Perhaps this a trend to come to this area. Easy parking though they do have valet parking. Great name and fits with the eclectic and outstanding beer offering. The many beers on tap will certainly have something for everyone. The beer offering is outstanding and a little fine tunning the wine list could be in the same league. The music and noise levels can be high but I found I could converse easily with my dinner mate. The share plate concept is a nice way of creating that social pizza of sharing food with your family and friends. I started by ordering the beat salad; red beets, walnuts, Chevre and a light dressing and green display--a wonderful combination of earthiness and sweet and the Chevre brings in the flavors with tang, cream, salt and a hint of sweet. I ordered the Fish and Chips and my dinner mate got the chicken pot pie. The fish and chips were a nice portion thought I would have added a bit of green somewhere on the plate. The fish was nicely fresh and the French fries were solid steak fries. My dinner mate's chicken pot pie was phenomenal--dark meat chicken which was a disappointment to my dinner mate--was passable. The flavor of bacon was profound and was such a great way to enjoy this dish. I ordered the 5 oz beer pour: Blanche de Bruxelles, Sünner Kölsch, Chimay Cinq Cents, Wells Bombardier and Young's Double Chocolate. A nice presentation and good selection for their European selection. The service was disappointing; luke warm at best. Just took the order but was either not having a good evening or that was his standard service package. I felt like I did all of the work. We sat underneath the great images of stained glass windows that are titled and enjoyed that view of the entire restaurant. The bright white florescent lighting was a bit highly amped but overall I liked the and atmosphere of the restaurant and if the service could be refined the overall experience would have been more exciting and fulfilling. read more

This is a no-brainer-goto if you live or work in the area, and worth the trip if you want to try something refined yet relaxed. I'm updating my old snarky review to 4 stars, with this new snooty review. For one thing, they have fantastic food, like the shrimp and grits, or nice surprises like the brussells sprout salad. I really liked the muscles. Additionally, the beer selection is 'faboo'. One one visit, the owner of Real Ale happened to be standing there and bought my beer for me...I had ordered a Fireman's 4. It's also possible to have a great time just sitting at that bar which is sufficiently dark for brooding beer types. I really like going here during happy hour, as you can pick from a few brews that have had some dollars knocked off the price. But normally I go here if I'm in the mood for something that you cant find at the normal bar, or the bottom of a case of MGD. Since opening last year, I've spent time here celebrating some of the best news ever, and soaking in some relief after one of the worst days ever. I hope the Moth is here to stay. read more

How is it possible that this place has fewer than four stars?! Every time I've been here, I've had wonderful food and great service. I love, love, love, the share plates. We always pick a bunch of items from the menu and pass them around. That kind of communal dining experience is my favorite way to eat! Of course, communal dining is much more interesting if you're all enjoying something new, and the Meddlesome Moth fits the bill there too. They have inventive menu items (as a vegetarian, I get really tired of seeing the same handful of options on so many Dallas menus), and they are consistently delicious. And, because they regularly update the menu, there's always something new to try. Although I'm not a huge beer drinker, the beer selection is great too.The flights are a fun way to try several different beers, but you may be even better off just taking your server's advice. The last time I went, our server was studying to become a cicerone, and he guided me to some wonderful beers I'd never tried before. This is truly one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. I've been here countless times and I still love this place! The food quality and service is consistently good. Have tried almost everything on the menu, and while I like some of the dishes better than others, I've always had a great dining experience. If we don't care for something, we let the waiter know and can gladly order something else (like the chicken skins, they changed the recipe recently and it's not as good as it was before. The waiter politely took the dish back and let us order something else). I've also never been disappointed by the dessert here, it is always delicious! Share plates were a new concept for us but I am sold. Similar to tapas, order at least two share plates per person if you are eating them as entrees. Two each was perfect for us. The food here is STELLAR. This is a great place to relax and take your time. Tons of beers on tap- tried the Firestone Walker 805 draught and it was great. We had these entrees and I cannot pick a favorite because they were all so good: The Hungry Farmer Vietnamese Sesame Pork Crepes Abi Tuna Stick Meat Tandoori Lamb Steak Pot Pie Marbled Potatoes Forest Mushroom Farro Sweet Pea Guacamole Moscow Mule was also very good. If you drink beer this is definitely your place. If you are looking for respectfully executed food this is also your place. My better half had the steak w/frites. I had the Artic Char sandwich with the lintel soup. The sandwich was sweet & sour because of the cabbage. Almost like a seafood Reuben. I recommend it if you like fish. The lentil soup was smoky. It had pork in it which lended to the smokiness of the soup. There were also leeks in the soup which added some unexpected color. Good soup, creative and hearty. Overall the food was four star. Unfortunately the selection of food was made me give this place a three star rating. I would hope with the high end food their would be more selection. In case you don't know the owners who own this also own the Flying Saucer places. If you have ever been there they don't have much selection either. My hope is that the Moth will expand it's menu. It a very nice place and worth the money. But if I am going to go out of my way for eats I want quality & selection. read more

This was my first time here. A friend invited me out and she picked the place. I'm so glad she did! We stuck with the small plates so we could try different things. First thing was steak Tartare. So good!! It was my favorite. I was reluctant at first because it's raw steak meat but the flavor is yummy!! Second item was the chilled scallop. That one was okay. It was the size of a half dollar coin and there were 2. Not worth the price. Also a little bland in flavor. Next up was the pork belly. Mmm... pork fat... nicely prepared. Very good. Last thing was the salmon skewer. Top half was raw. They used a very good sauce with this and it complimented the salmon well. Drinks are a little pricey, so if you plan on getting drunk, don't do it here! The service was okay. It started off good; the server was attentive, but towards the end, he just disappeared for 15 minutes at a time. Weird. Overall, a good experience. I wish they had a more descriptive menu - I did not know the bangers and mash had sauerkraut topping the root mash and that jalapeños came in the sausage. I had forgotten about this jewel in the Design District. I had lunch here about a year back and had wanted to come back for dinner but never made it until a friend challenged me to try some of her favorite Dallas joints. I am so glad she did because this place comes alive after 5! Plenty of beers on tap, great ambiance, and an awesome small plate menu. We started with the Beet salad which was simply amazing followed by the Broccolini with Tomato sauce equally delicious. Our server (who was great) recommended a seasoned New York Strip with a rutabaga side. The Rutabaga's were my favorite thing. The steak...not so much. It was flavorful but VERY tough. Yup, one of my few and very rare four star reviews goes to this place and I think its a combination of food, flavor , atmosphere and crazy selection of beers on tap. If you have read any of the other reviews I am sure you know this place is best in a group, while you could absorb all the nutrients your body craves by yourself any tapas place deserves at least another mouth to share the tastebud stimulation. Overall the selection is pretty across the board, the mussels are fantastically smothered and soaked in fantastic sauces. The bangers and mash are probably one of my favorite here, cooked perfectly every time I come here. The bone and marrow, while not one of my favorites, those I bring here cannot get enough of this and in all honesty I should love it more but have just always drowned myself in other goodness. I could continue on to various other amazing foods, or beers or drinks they have here as well but just take a few min and experience this place for yourself its worth it in every way. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed the Moth yet! I've probably been there close to a dozen times, and it is one of my favorite places to go. The valet parking is complimentary, however it is polite to tip the valet a buck or two. The Moth is a gastropub, the first in Dallas, and some would say the only one. The proudly proclaim if you've seen an advertisement on the TV for a beer, they don't have it. They have an amazingly eclectic assortment of beers. I haven't worked my way through their taps yet, but I am working on it. The decor is eclectic and mostly oriented towards the entertainment industry. A large stained glass tryptych from the first Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas is just gorgeous! It features Chuck Berry, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. Photos of lesser musicians are on the walls around the restaurant. The food on the menu is very good. We've enjoyed their mussels, especially the Thai mussels. The crawfish and grits rocks! The pot pies are great! I don't recall being disappointed by anything we've had off the menu. However, of special interest are their special beer dinners. These feature 5 or 6 courses of food Chef Chad prepares that are not on the menu paired with different beers. These are usually held in conjunction with a brewery or importer. All of these special dinners have been very, very special and well worth their somewhat elevated price tags. We took some friends to the recent "Lips of Faith" dinner that featured sour ales from New Belgium Brewery in Ft. Collins Co. They hadn't been to the Moth before, they really thought they were wine people and weren't sure about beer and food pairings, and they weren't too sure about sour ales. Now, they're believers! All the way around. To overuse the word again, the Moth is a very special place. read more

One of the best meals that I have had in recent memory. A few friends and I shared a bevy of 'small plates' and loved every single one. We ended up sitting at our table for over four hours because everything from the beer to the food to the service was exceptional. I was a little disappointed that they were out of Ballast Point but the other beers I tried where phenomenal. The coconut stout from Maui was great but you probably shouldn't have more than one at a time. For plates we had the lamb (amazing), porkbelly (succulent), oysters, and bangers and mash (the best of them all). You can't really go wrong. I was tempted to try the rabbit pot pie but just couldn't eat anymore. I also loved the stained glass windows - especially the one featuring Elvis. read more

This place was delish! We went last night to celebrate valentines day and it was a fantastic choice! Service: I give maybe 2 stars. Our waiter never asked if we needed anything. We had to stop him every time we wanted to order something and we had to ask him about the specials that were written on the chalkboard. Food: the special that weekend was Chicken Fried Lobster! Heaven! Waiter upsold us by adding shrimp and failed to mention they were $5 a piece which was a little ridiculous but def worth it. For bacon lovers- get the bacon lollipops! Soo good! This is easily one of the more solid restaurants I've been to in Dallas. I love the off-the-wall name, and the atmosphere, service, and food was pretty incredible. Our group was a reservation of 6 that became 9 and the staff was accommodating. Our server was very attentive, offered suggestions, surprised us when we asked for surprises, etc. As for food, we went all apps. OK...I went here for my birthday. Boy do I regret it! I had some family from out in the country come in to town for this dinner and the waiter was so extremely rude! My family wasn't too familiar with the beer selections and the waiter seemed annoyed to have to offer any suggestion so they just picked something because the waiter made it very evident that he was annoyed...the food was eh nothing exciting...we got the beef bone marrow and started eating it, only to have someone who worked there walk by and tell us to stop because it wasn't cooked properly...seriously!! haha thats just hilarious. Anyhow it was a really disappointing place to spend my birthday and more embarrassing because I really wanted the people that drove all the way to Dallas from out of town to enjoy it, instead of being bullied by the waiter. I went here with some friends a couple of weeks ago for lunch. We sat in the serene courtyard with jalapeno basil margaritas while we pondered the eclectic menu. This was my second visit here and it did not disappoint. We started off with the fried hominy which was terrific. Whoever thought of that idea was a genius (probably the Native Americans, but Meddlesome Moth did it well). For lunch I had the Ahi tuna salad which was light and flavorful. My husband had the lamb gyro that came with a Greek salad. He loved his. My friend had the poached fish and avocado salad which was very good. Her husband had the cheeseburger. It really looked amazing and came with crispy fries. This is a nice spot for lunch and trying something new. I can't wait to return and try more menu items. read more

What a refreshing eclectic place for dinner! I'm so tired of the same old steaks, BBQ, southern, tex mex restaurants. I loved the fun atmosphere and all of the dishes I tried. I came with a group and tried moth balls, pork, duck wings, mussels, liver pâté, bone marrow and fried liver. All were excellent, definitely will order the moth balls, bone marrow and liver pâté again. There are so many items to try, I'll be back again! Had lunch here today for the first time - been here a few times for happy hour but didn't get a chance to try any food off the menu. I had the seared tuna salad - $15 and worth every cent. It was unusual, to me at least, when I read the description - seared tuna, hearts of palm, mango...but it was AWESOME! I mean really AWESOME! The tuna was served rare and had a nice peppery finish that was complimented by the mango sweetness (fresh not sugary). I couldn't quite make out the dressing but it was lightly sweetened with honey...really good. On the far side of the plate was a spicy little aioli thing - see what I mean by unusual? But, it all worked together in one fantastic little salad. I highly recommend trying this salad if you like seared tuna! read more

Their beer expertise is phenomenal. Beer variety is excellent & server knowledge is exceptional. I got a rare DogFishHead bottle that was incredible. We go there to try something new, and they always have something new and interesting on tap to try. Food was excellent, expect the Pig and Fig. Great name, bad dish. Meddlesome Moth ranked first in my go to upscale restaurants. That being said, I went on a Friday night and had a reservation made beforehand. My boyfriend and I ordered the moth balls (yelpers favorite), bacon sticks, and bone marrow. all I can say is that this place doesn't offer the kind of food that meets my taste. The bone marrow was way too salty, bacon sticks (or lollipops) were drenched in oil, moth balls tasted like a ravioli. However, I did like the atmosphere. Perfect for a date night regardless of the crazy amount of people crowding the bar (happy hour I'm guessing?) I appreciate this neat gastrobar but this is just not my kind of food. read more

Came here for brunch and understood what all the hype was about. While I was overwhelmed by the lack of parking and underwhelmed by the interior, the food here was meddlesome moth's saving grace. My morning long island iced coffee went down smooth and was sweet without being overly tooth ache-y. I had the savory french toast dish and gobbled up every crumb. Will definitely return for brunch in the future and am interested to try out the happy hour which also has a good deal of buzz around it. read more
