I couldn't resist stopping by this adorable place that houses a boba shop right within a pharmacy store. It's like a sweet dose of unexpected delight amidst the medicine aisles.

This is my second time going to Medella Boba, first time was a week ago for a Yelp Elite event. I figured I would write a review for the business this second time around since I am a paying customer now. Overall I'm giving this boba spot 5 stars. Their drinks are fantastic! I had a coconut milk tea and it was delicious! Better than at a few other boba locations I've tried it at. I also bought a Green Apple Lemonade and it's really good, super refreshing. I also love the concept of the pharmacy and soda fountain shop reminiscent of the olden days (lol). For a weekend, it's not too busy with plenty of seats inside and plenty of parking. Overall, highly recommend Medella for some good Boba!

Perhaps the most unique new business to Downey to date is Medella Pharmacy and Boba. A popular hangout in the afternoons for Downey High students, I made my first visit here well in advance of their after school shenanigans for my own boba break. The staff is very nice and helpful. Don't be surprised if one is working in the pharmacy and comes out to greet you (and washes their hands before creating your drink). Good place for a refreshing iced tea or coffee... or both. The boba isn't my absolute favorite - it's just a bit too hard. Deeply appreciate this business helping out our daughters' PTA fundraiser. There is a separate Yelp page for the pharmacy: https://www.yelp.com/biz/medella-pharmacy-downey I currently do not have any prescriptions, but if my husband did not already have an effective relationship with the pharmacists at a chain in town, I would consider switching his prescriptions over to Medella. Hope they are doing okay through this COVID-19 quarantine. TIP + Grubhub currently fulfills delivery and takeout orders

I was quite confused as I drove up to this shop. It is a joint business with a Pharmacy, which is kinda cool! I look forward to visiting soon. | PROS | + Friendly service + Ordered a Horchata, and it was delicious! Boba was also nice and chewy + Clean inside + They offer a rewards system using your phone number + There is boba merchandise that is sold along with snacks + Yelp check-in offer: 20% off!

I've been to old pharmacy where they sell root beer floats/ice cream. This is a first for a pharmacy that sells BOBA. I love it. Definitely support a pharmacy who sells boba. I got the mango green tea. It's a pretty refreshing drink.

Very interesting vibe, the pharmacy store serves boba tea as well, tried their Thai tea with boba, flavor was better than a lot regular tea shops, thought the boba was too hard.

It was awkward coming to a boba spot that shared space with a pharmacy, but I looked past that fact and realized the drink was pretty good. I ordered a mango green tea boba. Felt like there was a good amount of mango flavor for my liking, but not enough boba added in so that was disappointing. Other than that, it also took a little longer to get my drink because there was only one guy working at the time since his colleague was on break. Overall, I'd come back at the end of the day!

Cute place, experienced no issues and a quick easy service. Definitely recommend for a quick fun hang out.

Such a cute boba spot, despite the weird location as some have said. Yes, it is inside a pharmacy but I think it's innovative and unique. The drinks were spot on and so delicious! If I lived in the area, I would definitely make this my boba/tea/slushee spot! I hope I can enjoy it more in the future when we are able to have indoor seating after this pandemic. Stay safe everyone :-)

The earlier you come, the more dessert options you'll have. They also have all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu which I did not try, but everything looked super tasty. I got a few desserts and a matcha strawberry foam latte (they use ceremonial grade matcha) and the biscoff latte. Loved that both weren't overly sweet and the biscoff latte had a rich coffee taste. My favorite dessert by far was the banana mousse. By the time we left, the line was out the door. Even though it was packed, the servers are super friendly and take the time to make sure you're enjoying yourself. Definitely a must try place if you're in Downey. No need to go to LA to try those over hyped dessert places. One Twelve Cafe does it just as good, if not better and they have many more tasty options to choose from.

I was in the area and I've never had a cute coffee with the latte art (so many of my friends are going to roast me for this) When I pulled up -nice private parking -a staff member was outside painting on the windows with the cutest window art. The girl had talent! This place has also given back. They helped with the LA fires last year. So bonus points for places who give back. (They gave back to the Pasadena humane society) There was a pretty big line and it was pretty loud in here, but it went by very fast. My friend grabbed a table while I placed the order. -they do have a good amount of seating. The place is pretty small though. So we sat for a minute after our drinks came out and then decided to take it to go -they have latte art that changes every month. So I like they have some rotating options. It was my turn and I ordered two sugar free mocha iced coffees. One with regular foam, And mine had strawberry foam. When I told Matthew at the counter it was really important the one drink be as sugar free as possible due to my friend being diabetic, he warned us there was sugar in the foam, but he would go as light as possible. So I appreciate him warning us and taking it serious. I picked the new hello kitty art of the month (hello kitty in a bathing suit with waves and dolphins) And my friend picked from the new monthly latte art as well, and got the Kirby character Even though it was busy, it took probably 2 minutes for our drinks to be made Matthew was absolutely great. His energy, he had a smile on his face, was knowledgeable about the menu, Matthew was everything you'd want in a staff member. Just like any coffee place, you pay and give them a name for your order, and then they call your name and you pick up your coffee at the counter. These drinks hit the spot!!! It was very trendy. They had Sabrina carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo specials and they even had a Lana Del Rey latte (cinnamon girl, named after her song) only thing that bummed me out They had a case with delicious pastries. But since I came here later in the day, they only had a couple stragglers left behind -they open at 7 am, for everyone needing their morning coffee -vegan options -free WiFi -woman owned -LGBTQ owned -they give back to the community

Today I learned I don't really like the flavor of banana leaf that gets absorbed into the tamal. Also, it was primarily made of rice. I ordered an iced caramel latte, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The espresso was rich and flavorful, while the caramel added just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the drink. I also loved that they use coffee ice cubes, it kept the latte from getting watered down, and honestly, I thought it tasted even better as it sat. The staff was friendly, and our drinks came out pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The only downside was the atmosphere. It's a very small shop with seating for maybe 20 people inside, plus 4 small two-person tables outside (without any shade). When we visited, almost everyone else was working on laptops, so it didn't feel like the best place to sit and chat. The music was also fairly loud and mostly K-pop, which didn't really match the coffee shops aesthetic and made conversation a little more difficult. Parking was probably my biggest complaint. There are only four dedicated parking spots, and the surrounding residential street parking was completely packed. I ended up parking in the chicken restaurant's lot across the street. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the coffee, it was genuinely one of the better iced caramel lattes I've had. If you're looking to grab a quality drink to go, I'd highly recommend it. Just be prepared for limited seating and a challenging parking situation.
