When I visit my now 97 year-old Dad, I get an errand list as his mobility is limited and he finally gave up the car. One day's task was stopping here at the Mediacom office to get a new remote to replace the old one. The guy at the desk handed it right over, along with a card with QR Code instructions. The later is fine by me, but not for my Dad. How about a simple quarter-pager that anyone without a phone could follow? When the tivo box fails, you will spend hours on the phone with a representative who will put you through the paces and then say that a technician must come out. This website is the most unreliable service provider of all time. I really thought Comcast was the worst, but Media come takes the cake. They have the utmost user unfriendly website & mobile app. When the technician comes to set up your router or cable they forget to give you the email they created for you- with out your input as to what you want your own email to be. Who does that? Not only that but the "promotion" I got was $65 high streaming internet & I am paying over $100 every single bill. What a scam. Good lord, what a sh** show. Was scheduled for installation this week (Ames). I paid the fees. Called back an hour later because I hadn't received a receipt via email. They said I never made a payment, but it came out of my card. Asked for supervisor. Then they said I did make a payment and they'll send an email receipt. This morning I get another email saying I owe another $100+ for something or other. Called and they said they couldn't verify the account and couldn't discuss it. Had to speak to another supervisor. Cancelled the install and will now wait for my refund to show up. We'll see how that goes. All the reviews you see on Google and here are accurate. The customer service and their processes are absolutely brutal and unorganized. There are few options in the area so I took a leap of faith despite all the bad reviews. Don't do the same. I never even got to experience the actual internet service. But judging from the initial contact, I'm glad I didnt. I'm going with prepaid Verizon WiFi for now until I find something else. EDIT: the supervisor called me back a few minutes ago and actually admitted all the confusion was because the representative put my information in wrong. She offered to waive the additional fees added on and to reinstate the installation this week. But at this point, I'm just not comfortable with Mediacom at all. So I'll at least give them credit for the foregoing and raise the review to 2 stars instead of one. EDIT: back to one star. Despite cancelling I received a FedEx notification today of something from Mediacom being shipped to me despite the cancellation. Once my refund appears and I'm done with this company, then may give two stars again. read more

If I could give mediacom a zero I would. There's basically no other option in town for internet service. The customer service when we moved here and needed installation was horrible. They left a cable draped over our lawn, left without saying anything. I had to take multiple days off because they showed up with parts missing that they needed. Not a good way to start a brand-new job. The service when there is an outage (which is often) is nonexistent. I go to school online and have a second business online, so constantly having no internet is a big problem. We're constantly having to restart our internet and go hours or even days without service. Mediacom in Ames, IA. Just moved here. Service to connect and get going was quick, professional, and done right. Internet is fast and seems to be reliable. TV service is excellent. 4K HD pics are great on my 65" Samsung. Using the guide is easy and user friendly. The guide does start out with the shows listed in SD at first, but then , in the 800's, they switch to HD. The TiVo function is great. I decide to record something and it even gives me a list of the same series in "on demand" (free) that I may have missed. Didn't get much instruction on overall operation at install time, but things are easy to figure out. read more

My experience with Mediacom has been the worst since dial-up. While the wi-fi connection is fast--but only when it is actually connected. Several times each day, the wi-fi disconnects. The problem has been reported to customer service numerous times without resolution. For as many times as I have had to reset the router/modem, I think I should get paid as a Mediacom troubleshooter. One time, I was expected to be here from 8am to 8pm for service, and then nobody showed up. Since then, two techs have come to fix the problem, once with a new modem/router, but the problem continues. Since recieving the new modem/router, my printer cannot be connected to the wi-fi. Saturday I streamed a free movie and had to restart it five times because the wi-fi kept disconnecting. Today, I was expected to be here between 8am and noon and Medicom is a no-show, again. read more

If I could give a lower rating, I would. Mediacom gets one star because that's the minimum I can give it. It was bad when I lived in Des Moines, it was bad when lived in Ames. First of all, there are no local support numbers anymore. They are all piped to their national line. When you call their national line, they tell you to call another number for internet support. When you write this down and call the internet support line it's the same line as the line you called before. Their support is terrible. Their tech support is only good for masochists who don't have full-time employment and can sit on the phone for hours at a time and repeating the same information to each person who receives the transferred calls. The best tech support strategy is hoping you never need it. Mediacom's operating philosophy is that we are here to pay for what ever they throw our way. As far as television viewing selections go, it is limited and expensive for what you get. I made the switch to DirecTV and have never given it a second thought. It is time for local governments to give us better options in our cable franchises read more

I'd give it a zero for TV service, but a five for their internet service. The TV service is garbage. Crappy picture, overpriced, and their telephone support is the worst. I literally had a guy tell me that "if it's available in HD, we're delivering it in HD", while I was watching a crappy 4x3 letterboxed downconverted SD version of ESPNU, knowing full well that the game was produced in HD and offered in HD on other providers. They consistently lie to their customers. What they don't realize is that some of us know better. I work in television production, and I can tell you exactly what they're doing to a signal by looking at my TV. I know it's not my setup. Don't lie to me. That's why they've repeatedly been voted worst customer service in the US. On the other hand, their cable internet is rock solid and very fast, so I don't ever need to deal with their customer service. I cancelled television service yesterday, but I'm holding on to their internet. It's the best game in town. read more

Today 10/26/19 is typical. The Cyclones were supposed to be on FS1, are they? Of course not. Does Ames, Iowa the Big 12 have the Big 10 Network on 5 channels? Yes. They seem to take great delight on not broadcasting Cyclone games. They do have 6 Mexican channels though. Every other game in the known universe is on, but not the Cyclones. Hell, Drake is on 60-22. All week its FS1, then at the last minute they change it to FS2, which we don't have. Do we have FOX Business? No. Do we have Hallmark Movies & Mysteries? No. But we do have the Big Ten Network on 5 channels. 51-8. 51-10, 51-25, 68-8, 68-10. read more

I probably would have passed on writing a review if I hadn't received a collection notice from this company. Allow me to explain. First of all I would like to point out that we never had uninterrupted service. Through the four years we were with media com we went through 4-5 DVRs. There was always one problem or another with those things starting from overheating (in a 70 degree room) to randomly deleting shows. But, we dealt with it... We moved from Ames to Boston, MA in September 2012. We dropped by the office to give them back our equipment and pay all of our bills. We left, thinking we were squared away with media com. Fast forward to January 2013 and my mother (In California) gets a collections notice in my name for $58 plus a collection fee of $12, for a total of $70. Apparently our last bill hadn't posted yet when we went in, they didn't have a forwarding address, so they submitted it to collections. Now, I get wanting the money that is owed to you. But we paid, always on time, for FOUR years. We went in and wanted to settle our bill, in its entirety, and we made it clear that we were moving out of state. Over $58 you send me to a collection's agency? You tarnish my credit score over $58? Shame on you media com. I certainly would have gone with another provider over the years of headache, except there wasn't one for our address. And I am sure they know that. read more

I go to great lengths to fix my own issues. Internet went out, I tried all I knew to fix it. Called MCom tech, nothing worked, possible bad modem. I took the modem and swapped it at the Mcom service center. I called to activate it, and got bottom of the barrel person. I got irritated when it still was not working and it would be Friday ( it is Monday) for a service guy to come out. Asked for supervisor she was more savvy but still did not help , but got me a Thursday appointment. It is ridiculous to have to wait a week for a service call... Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Our internet goes out at lest five times a week for no apparent reason. We work from home and this causes all sorts of problems. They are uninterested in fixing the problem or even investigating why this continues to occur. Calling customer support is an awful experience. I've never had such rude treatment in my life. If I could give negative stars I would. They have pretty much no customer service. My internet was down for three weeks before someone finally came out and fixed (cobbled it)! The cable the replaced has been laying across my back yard all summer!!!! What a pain to mow!!! I have a large yard with a cable laying there that has to be moved or mowed around. When I called them and complained that it's still laying there they said they would be out within the next three weeks!! That has been over a month ago and still it lays there. I wish Mediacom wasn't my only option for internet service but they are. Their TV service is horrible and their internet is pathetic. Unfortunately, my other ISP option is DSL. At this point I am seriously considering going back to DirecTV which we loved but was so expensive. Mediacom doesn't even offer locals in HD. To be fair, when the internet works, it is great but every other day there is an issue. I should have known from yrs back when they couldn't provide me with reliable 12 Mbps service that they wouldn't be able to deliver on their promise of 50. They have even tried to get me to spend more money for 100 Mbps service when they can't give me 50! The picture quality of their cable is no where close to what DirecTV offers but this is cheaper. Internet service has been good, 3 stars. I got talked into switching to TVIO, (arm twisting involved). I bought a 65" and 55" TV's so I could read the guides. TVIO updated and now I can't read the guide again because of the format. The previous guide formats were changeable so I could read them. Some genius removed that option. I spent $3,000 on TV's and once again the guide is too small for me to read. Looking into Dish or Direct service. Ive been a Mediacom customer for over 20 plus years not that it matters to them. read more

If I could rate 0, I totally would. So here's a little rant about them. Mediacom sent a technician to install our modem and get our internet up and running. When the guy showed up, the guy was very young and definitely brand new to the company...he tried to set up our modem, but said he needed to come back because he was unsure. What the hell? All of a sudden he decided to call someone to help him set it up. Buddy thought he set it up, charged us $124.99 and then marked it complete. THE MODEM WAS NOT SET UP. Unfortunately I had to have a friend supervise this guy while I was at work. So, I got charged $124 for installation but it wasn't installed. I called them about it, they said they can't refund me. What the???? And now they're sending a technician 2 weeks from now. How do you guys manage to stay in business? read more

I have never had problems with Mediacom (except for 1 time, which got fixed). The customer service is always nice although I don't like that they outsource. My tech took time to explain to me about the internet I didn't know, since I pretty much just facebook on it. The support team has always gone above and beyond in helping with questions, even when it isn't a Mediacom issue. I can't say enough about the phone service. I love the free long distance and not one time have had problems with it. AND my phone is saving me money from my other provider. Glad I'm with Mediacom and not the cable company my sister has in Texas. read more

Last fall (long before freezing weather) Mediacom installed cable TV service to my tenants in a duplex at 1018 Delaware Ave, Ames, IA and they have NOT buried the cable. The first section of the cable is laying on the ground (tripping hazard) for over 20 feet, and then part of it is strung up along a wood fence. The next section of the cable was left hanging loose in the air between the fence and the duplex. Besides being very unsightly, it is dangerous having a cable laying on the ground. The entire cable should have been promptly buried. Something similar happened in 2009 for 1021 North Dakota. That time it took six months to get the cable buried. I suspect they are not so slow in a wealthy neighborhood. read more

My husband works from home and have lost days of work and he is about to lose his job because of this company. Had mediacom for two years. Cable is okay... Internet is about as bad as it gets. And to make it worse their customer service is an absolute waste. Internet is out 50-70% of the week. Worst service I have ever experienced. I only have internet with mediacom and its probably the worst service I have ever had in my life. Whenever there are problems with the service (which is all the time) and we call, they do nothing to help. They have horrible customer service. Horrible customer relations. Horrible customer reviews. They also have horrible employees and polices and just about everything about mediacom is horrible. I would NOT recommend mediacom to my worst enemy. They don't care about their customers at all. Everything they offer, is a lie. You will pay for something and get maybe half of what you pay for. Most of the time we get less than 50% of the advertised internet speeds they say we should be getting. After running several tests on my end, we have established that we get, at best, 30mbs when we pay for 50. Lawsuit... Here we come. Mediacom is garbage and I honest to god hope that mediacom goes out of business. This company is nothing but criminal. Scum of the earth. Trash. Worthless. Disgusting. My sister got upset said cancel then and hung up. I called back they said it was canceled now so they won't do it but had that not happened they would of sent a help tix to dispatch to get a tech out. As for a business page that doesn't even list the store hours (after I had been told by phone to take my remote to the local store to exchange it for a working one), that is really useless.
