Visited at 3pm on a Sunday - wish we would have gone earlier as the selection was slightly limited since it was almost the end of the day. We got the lemon poppy bun and another pastry but I forget the name. The bun was good but I really wish they would heat it up in store. Overall the pastries were good but didn't blow us away. We'll have to come back and try some more items.

I had a vanilla latte and the last cinnamon roll. Both were delicious! Idle is not too far from VMFA and that makes for a nice stroll with coffee and pastry in hand. The place is popular, especially on Sunday per my experience. The good news is that the line moves fast. Enjoy!

Orange chocolate cinnamon roll , homemade coffee .. I finished my maple Cardamom coffee before I left , it was that good..

I regret not going sooner. I came in town to find the monks during their walk for peace . I had to stop by before they closed and I'm so happy I did. The two people working the front were so friendly and I loved our conversation, they had some good recommendations. They even when the extra mile to ensure my order was clear of peanuts due to my allergies . The maple cardamom was on point . I also am in love with the orange chocolate cinnamon roll , never get rid of that one .. I beg you !!! I wish they had seating inside would be my only thing . The inside was small and I'm sure even more so during a rush . I was the only one there so I got lucky . Will be my go to for coffee when I'm visiting ...

I really love the new location of Idle Hands! It took an already great bakery, I made it even better. There is so much seating and more interior space for standing in line. The lines are just as long at this location, but they move very quickly. I got the ham and cheese croissant and a Matcha and everything was so delicious! Definitely some of the best baked goods in Richmond.

When my prime choice bakery was closed, I circled around here. They had a couple of loaves, but these were almost hidden and I didn't notice until after I'd checked out, and so ended up with a baguette and some pastries. Notably, they had a significant spread of vegan options, which I was told were the same as the non-vegan ones with the only difference being the substitution of butter for an alternative. I got some of both and no one seemed overly bothered with the difference. Some items were a bit dry, but the spread I got was still mostly devoured by the people I got it for. I didn't quite get the top quality freshly ground grain taste I came to Richmond for, but I was satisfied.

5 star service here, good coffee and pastries. We came at an off hour so there was no line, the young man who helped us was very kind and explanatory. The barista also did a great job on the latte. I do wish they offered a warm up of pastries particularly when slow, I think would have enhanced the experience. The orange blossom cheesecake is unique to them and was very good with a subtle orange blossom flavor. Our other pastries were better than good but not great.

Delicious decaf latte made promptly on a saturday afternoon, enjoyed alongside a huge and perfect almond croissant. There was a great variety of pastries for a small batch bakery; I was impressed! I can't wait to return to try more.

I come to idle hands typically in the morning and they have a wonderful selection of pastries, including vegan options. There will most likely be a line but it is worth it! They also have great iced lattes. I like to get a different assortment every time, but my favorite is the cheese danish! Best bakery ever

Get there as soon as they open and buy one of everything. I got a cinnamon roll so perfectly made I had to rethink every cinnamon roll I've ever eaten. It wasn't too sweet so you could enjoy the whole thing but it's big enough to share. The staff helped me make the perfect decision and the store is setup to grab a bite and enjoy the rest of your day.

The pastries are huge and nicely priced! I really liked the chocolate chip cheese danish! the blueberry one was good as well. Both fitting of what youd expect from them flavour wise! Staff was very nice and the service was pretty fast! If only I could have the danishes fresh or warmed it would have been great great!!

The perfect spot for morning people! Their pastries are fresh, and the right kinds of sweet, savory, flaky, etc. If I have time in the morning, I try to stop by since I know by the afternoon they'll be sold out. I wish they operated on more consistent hours, but I don't blame them for selling out almost daily! Lots of vegan options. It's very cozy inside, but don't expect any seating. Their coffee selection is great and never disappoints. My current favorite would definitely be the Thai Iced Coffee!

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

I ordered several of the savory scones and a couple of cookies and loved them all. Both the cookies and scones vary by flavor but we had a sweet potato scone and a lavender flavored scone. I would not normally have ordered a lavender flavored anything but my wife loves it and I am glad she does. I tried it and struggled to leave any for her. I at almost the entire scone. The sweet potato was equally as good but with a much milder flavor. And the cookies....out of this world! The servers were friendly but nothing over the top. They seemed to be a cog in the machine and churning out orders. Overall, a cute little, vegan, spot with really good pastries and coffee. Head caution on the milkshakes if you are not use to vegan milkshakes. While they taste good, at least to me, they are wildly different than an cows milk milkshake. Alot of people are shocked by this and turned off by the flavor.

But if it doesn't- WOW! Best vegan pastries I've ever had, and I say that as a vegan of 10 years. We got the chocolate & pb cake which was incredible. It was moist, flavorful and not too heavy or too sweet. The cosmic brownie was a winner, and I was so happy to eat a chocolate croissant for the first time since going vegan! We tried a cupcake which was light and airy, with delicious frosting that wasn't too sweet, which I have found common with vegan sweets made by non vegan bakeries. We also tried the breakfast sandwich and burrito, which were so delicious and flavorful. My friend said she wouldn't have known any of it was vegan. We also picked up some cute stickers, and browsed their vegan snack shelf. The staff was so kind, and carefully packed up 4 pastries for me to bring back to California. They made it safely through 2 flights and multiple car rides! I love how this is a community hub, with meals you can purchase to pay it forward, a bulletin board of announcements, free library, and inclusive signage. We felt so welcome here, and I loved the bathroom stickers and framed review on the wall. There is NOTHING better than supporting a fully vegan business who fights for what is right. I will be dreaming of Minglewood's goodies until the next time I find myself out in Richmond. Thank you for ALL you do!

The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist.
