It should be considered a crime to serve this must tasty treats in one spot. I went in for a coffee but left with an entire box of pastries. I ordered several of the savory scones and a couple of cookies and loved them all. Both the cookies and scones vary by flavor but we had a sweet potato scone and a lavender flavored scone. I would not normally have ordered a lavender flavored anything but my wife loves it and I am glad she does. I tried it and struggled to leave any for her. I at almost the entire scone. The sweet potato was equally as good but with a much milder flavor. And the cookies....out of this world! The servers were friendly but nothing over the top. They seemed to be a cog in the machine and churning out orders. Overall, a cute little, vegan, spot with really good pastries and coffee. Head caution on the milkshakes if you are not use to vegan milkshakes. While they taste good, at least to me, they are wildly different than an cows milk milkshake. I really enjoyed trying Minglewood Bakery for the first time! I have both a dairy free and gluten allergy and it was so exciting to find a bakery where everything is 100% vegan and has many options that are gluten free too. I went on a rainy Saturday morning and thought it was so cool that they had a 10% off rainy day discount. I was tempted to get so many things but ended up opting for the Gluten Free Vegan Coffee Cake made with almond flour, it was delicious!!! You would never know it was dairy and gluten free. My boyfriend got the cheddar biscuits and loved it as well. They also have ice cream, cakes, cookies, scones, coffee, and so much more! I love that they also have vegan candy and chocolate as well as a freezer section with take and bake vegan and some gluten free options. They had frozen croissants, biscuits, breakfast sandwiches and more. The safe was super sweet and helpful too when ordering. I loved how homey and charming all the decor was and the cute wooden booths where you can sit and enjoy. The bakery is in Carytown so you are limited to street parking and pay to park parking decks. But we had no issue finding parking on a rainy Saturday morning. I highly recommend you give this bakery a try regardless of if you have food allergies or not! read more

I don't care what side of the political line you are on, don't post rude political comments and signage in your front window! If you do, don't be surprised when people respond with the same attitude and walk out! Upon stating that the sign was offensive, she shrieked to our backs as we left, "do not come back!" Ummm. No problem. Let me also add that nothing in the bakery cases looked all that great? Mostly just a potpourri of cookies, and a few short cakes, all ready to be served by "black masked," staff behind the case. Not at all friendly, to say the least. I came here on a weekend and I saw so many delicious treats for sale. They had some that were from the day prior that they offer a 50% discount which was nice! Walking into the store during October feels like a scene from Halloween town on Disney Channel. It truly feels like Autumn is here. There were a good amount of different baked items to choose from in which I ordered a pumpkin oat sandwich. The cream inside was delicious; it was not overly sweet which I do not like, but I didn't have that problem. The pumpkin flavor added a razzle dazzle and I love pumpkin, so this is right up my alley. It's definitely a must order during the fall. I also ordered a hot apple cider drink because I can't have anything with caffeine so I opted for something that still reminds me of the Fall and it was absolutely delicious. It was a great choice. We got 12 red velvet cupcakes with biscoff frosting at a recent family get together with many strict "anti vegans" - and everyone was obsessed with the cupcakes. Two words: Chick'n salad. As someone who used to love chicken salad back in the day, Minglewood's chick'n salad fills the void! It's so tasty, unique, and delightful. This place is AWESOME!! I had to pause and confirm everything was vegan because there was so much selection! I had a moz-herb biscuit and a savory spinach-artichoke turnover, and they were so good. I wish I could have one (or both) right now as I write this. The pasty was so flaky and light, and the filling had so much flavor! One of my friends who accompanied me is gluten free, and I was blown away by how dense and moist the scone he ordered was. My other friend declared her scone to best the best she's ever had anywhere - vegan, gluten free, or not. Update: tried something new today for the V72 week. I stopped by and got the last Tres Leche cake they had and I have to say this was my lucky shot because it was so good! I didn't know if I would like it but I took a chance, I can't say it was exactly like tres leche, but it was equally as good regardless. It was so moist and topped off with some sort of icing/creamy topping that set it off perfectly. We also got banana pudding and cheddar biscuits to go. I tasted that pudding and it was so good I bought a second one! I have never gotten anything at Minglewood that I didn't like, but... this was falls in the top 5 of things I liked the most. This is a great spot for all your dessert needs. I actually had no idea this bakery catered to people with food allergies and loved everything I ordered not knowing it was all allergen free! When a friend told me (much later) that it's a specialty bakery, I was so surprised! I then proceeded to order my daughter's birthday cake from here bc she has a friend who is dairy and gluten intolerant. The cake (chocolate) was delicious and loved by all the kids at the party. I was so excited to try this place out! I'm such a sucker for cupcakes and therefore, a cupcake snob. Then, I get there and realize they had WAY more than I expected. Cookies, scones, croissants, sandwiches, wraps, cheeses, and more! They also sold fun RVA swag, stickers, stationary cards, and other local/handmade goods. As much as I love cupcakes, these were definitely not my favorite. The vanilla strawberry tasted neither like vanilla nor strawberry. The cake bottom was pretty dry, and the icing tasted bland and flavorless - almost like plain low fat whipped cream. The cookies, however, were amazing! The s'mores and chocolate chip were SO good. Gooey, soft, and delicious. The location can't be beat. Right on Cary and Freeman two doors down from Mary Angela's in a cute brick building with outdoor patio seating and tables inside. I never knew a place like this existed and I am so glad I discovered it. I often find it difficult to find fun and innovative desserts for my girlfriend, who is dairy-free and can't eat 90% of the stuff traditional birthday celebrations partake in. However, you walk in here - and EVERYTHING is fair game. What's even more impressive is how multidimensional it all is - not just desserts, but sandwiches, side dishes - and ones that I would never expect them to be able to deliver as dairy-free, they find a way. Got the banana chip scone and the apple cider for 7$ and some change. Great price! I asked if the scone was dry and It was pleasantly softer in the insider with an outside crisp. I loved it a lot! I've been a loyal supporter of Minglewood Bakeshop since they opened -- recommending them to everyone, vegan and non-vegan alike, and ordering all our birthday cakes there year after year. All of our out-of-town guests are treated to Minglewood by us as well. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I won't be returning. I stopped by to place a large order for my grandmother, who's recovering from knee surgery, and at checkout, was suddenly told orders over $100 have a mandatory 20% gratuity. No signage, no heads-up -- nothing. When I asked how much the gratuity would add to my bill the cashier guessed wrong, then asked a coworker who threw out a random total way over what it should've been and I wasn't shown a final subtotal before the charge was applied. I asked for my receipt and surprise -- my subtotal was $95. With tax, $105.36. Yet they charged me $21.07 and listed it as a "tip." Not only was the gratuity applied to my post-tax total (which is not standard practice), but it was listed as a "TIP" rather than a service charge, which are two different things legally and for wage reporting. I have no issue tipping or with automatic gratuities when policies are clearly posted and fairly applied. But the lack of transparency, poor math, and mishandling by the staff left a bad taste in my mouth. Richmond has plenty of great vegan bakeries, and while Minglewood was one of my favorites, I'll be taking my business elsewhere moving forward. read more

I LOVE Minglewood Bake Shop! This bakery is truly a hidden gem and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Everything at Minglewood is vegan. I appreciate that their drinks come with your choice of a plant-based milks and what's even better is that they don't charge extra for it. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I really appreciate this. They also have a good amount gluten free options here too. They have both sweet and savory things to pick from. One of the standout items on their menu is the pistachio chocolate cupcake. Let me tell you, it was out of this world delicious! The cupcake was incredibly moist and had just the right amount of chocolate and pistachio flavors. You couldn't even tell it was vegan. I would also recommend getting their spinach artichoke pastry. For something with no butter, it's so buttery, flakey, and tasty. I'm blanking on the name, but they have a BBQ option (that I think is made from jackfruit) that is very yummy too. Lovely vegan coffee shop in Carytown. Love it so much that I have brought loved ones to introduce them to this gem. It's small and tables are typically full, but I would go here anytime because of the yummy coffee and baked goods. Customers are generally kind and willing to share unused seats at tables. The espresso drinks are smooth and delicious, with several non-dairy options. The baked goods are delicious, especially the blueberry lemon scone. There is a microwave in the seating area if you want to heat your treat. This is a space for everyone, even non-vegans. Been doing a lot of cheating on my OG coffee shop but honestly.. it's been worth it as I've found so many that I love. Minglewood being one of them! Plenty of coffee flavoring options which keeps it fun, but had to get a lavender vanilla latte for my first go round and it was delicious. They have plenty of pastries and snacks that they can heat up for you which I like and I think everything's vegan?! I decided to try their chili Mac pastry and while I didn't know what to expect after a couple of mins in the air fryer it was a nice little dairy free treat! One of the best vegan bakeries that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Yes, they do have wonderful baked items but they also have vegan take away items too. From Chik'n Salad to various biscuits and wraps! It was a busy mid-day lunch stop for me. The service was good. They were a bit overwhelmed with orders but everyone kept their cool and made sure orders were filled as quickly as possible. You can eat outside on the front porch or indoors. The indoor seating area is limited as well as the front porch too. One thing of note, parking on Cary Street on a good day can be tricky. I was looking for a good coffee place and my new stylist Colleen from Flirt Salon mentioned this place...and here I am! Another good location, across from the Dhe Krazy store (I have a doggy so that's a point of reference for me, lol). The inside is surprisingly spacious but they have outdoor seating too and...I saw a box of doggy treats and saw they are dog friendly! I also loved seeing the bunny statue at the fireplace.",lol. We dropped by on our way out of town because I saw it got good reviews for their Nutella latte. I have to say I was not impressed. It tasted like a regular latte - just coffee and oat milk. I couldn't taste any Nutella or any chocolate at all. I also got a cheddar and chive biscuit. They have a small microwave on the side to heat it up. I did for 30 seconds. It was perfectly fine. We didn't get any sweets and maybe that's where we went wrong. The cupcakes and coffee cakes looked really good. I will say the service was great. This was my second visit to this bakery and it definitely was as good as the first time! They have a HUGE selection of baked goods, everything from cookies to cupcakes, scones to cheesecake. They have plenty of vegan and gluten-free options too. Their Lavender Lemonade is sooooo It can get crowded in the mornings and weekends, and parking is a pain, but it is SO worth it! The service is always friendly and patient, even with the crowds. It is pretty small inside so if you plan on getting some work done and sitting inside you might have to wait to find a table.
