I ordered several of the savory scones and a couple of cookies and loved them all. Both the cookies and scones vary by flavor but we had a sweet potato scone and a lavender flavored scone. I would not normally have ordered a lavender flavored anything but my wife loves it and I am glad she does. I tried it and struggled to leave any for her. I at almost the entire scone. The sweet potato was equally as good but with a much milder flavor. And the cookies....out of this world! The servers were friendly but nothing over the top. They seemed to be a cog in the machine and churning out orders. Overall, a cute little, vegan, spot with really good pastries and coffee. Came in during the watermelon fest to get some coffee. I got an iced "Beas latte". It was good but nothing to go crazy about. You could tell they use good coffee. We also got the watermelon cheesecake, the watermelon key lime pie, a watermelon cookie, and the banana chocolate chip cookie. They had all the chairs up so we couldn't sit down. The watermelon cookie was an amazing texture, I just wish it had a little more watermelon taste. The banana cookie was really good. The key lime pie was yummy and we're were struggling to eat while standing so I put the cheesecake in my bag for later. We were in Richmond for 2 days, and after stopping by the first day, we immediately knew we would change our plans to return the next day as well- that should tell you all you need to know! But if it doesn't- WOW! Best vegan pastries I've ever had, and I say that as a vegan of 10 years. We got the chocolate & pb cake which was incredible. It was moist, flavorful and not too heavy or too sweet. The cosmic brownie was a winner, and I was so happy to eat a chocolate croissant for the first time since going vegan! We tried a cupcake which was light and airy, with delicious frosting that wasn't too sweet, which I have found common with vegan sweets made by non vegan bakeries. We also tried the breakfast sandwich and burrito, which were so delicious and flavorful. My friend said she wouldn't have known any of it was vegan. We also picked up some cute stickers, and browsed their vegan snack shelf. The staff was so kind, and carefully packed up 4 pastries for me to bring back to California. They made it safely through 2 flights and multiple car rides! I really enjoyed trying Minglewood Bakery for the first time! I have both a dairy free and gluten allergy and it was so exciting to find a bakery where everything is 100% vegan and has many options that are gluten free too. I went on a rainy Saturday morning and thought it was so cool that they had a 10% off rainy day discount. I was tempted to get so many things but ended up opting for the Gluten Free Vegan Coffee Cake made with almond flour, it was delicious!!! You would never know it was dairy and gluten free. My boyfriend got the cheddar biscuits and loved it as well. They also have ice cream, cakes, cookies, scones, coffee, and so much more! I love that they also have vegan candy and chocolate as well as a freezer section with take and bake vegan and some gluten free options. I had to stop at a business on Cary St, and I happened to walk by Minglewood Bakery. A few times recently, I had to buy a couple dozen cupcakes for birthdays. Minglewood always came up in my search, but the gluten-free part scared me a little. Not that I have anything against gluten-free, per se, but I was concerned about what would be missing from the recipe. Anyway, I stopped in to try a sampler: a croissant, an orange-chocolate brownie, and a cupcake. I ate the croissant on the drive home, and it was as good as any I have ever had. Im looking forward to trying the rest! But the part of my visit that will stick with me is the friendliness of the staff. Especially the individual who was running the cash register. I didn't notice their name, but an out-of-the-blue question led to a really nice conversation that will keep me in great spirits the rest of ​​the weekend. This place is AWESOME!! I had to pause and confirm everything was vegan because there was so much selection! I had a moz-herb biscuit and a savory spinach-artichoke turnover, and they were so good. I wish I could have one (or both) right now as I write this. The pasty was so flaky and light, and the filling had so much flavor! One of my friends who accompanied me is gluten free, and I was blown away by how dense and moist the scone he ordered was. My other friend declared her scone to best the best she's ever had anywhere - vegan, gluten free, or not. Update: tried something new today for the V72 week. I stopped by and got the last Tres Leche cake they had and I have to say this was my lucky shot because it was so good! I didn't know if I would like it but I took a chance, I can't say it was exactly like tres leche, but it was equally as good regardless. It was so moist and topped off with some sort of icing/creamy topping that set it off perfectly. We also got banana pudding and cheddar biscuits to go. I tasted that pudding and it was so good I bought a second one! I have never gotten anything at Minglewood that I didn't like, but... this was falls in the top 5 of things I liked the most. I was so excited to try this place out! I'm such a sucker for cupcakes and therefore, a cupcake snob. Then, I get there and realize they had WAY more than I expected. Cookies, scones, croissants, sandwiches, wraps, cheeses, and more! They also sold fun RVA swag, stickers, stationary cards, and other local/handmade goods. As much as I love cupcakes, these were definitely not my favorite. The vanilla strawberry tasted neither like vanilla nor strawberry. The cake bottom was pretty dry, and the icing tasted bland and flavorless - almost like plain low fat whipped cream. The cookies, however, were amazing! The s'mores and chocolate chip were SO good. Gooey, soft, and delicious. The location can't be beat. Right on Cary and Freeman two doors down from Mary Angela's in a cute brick building with outdoor patio seating and tables inside. I've been a loyal supporter of Minglewood Bakeshop since they opened -- recommending them to everyone, vegan and non-vegan alike, and ordering all our birthday cakes there year after year. All of our out-of-town guests are treated to Minglewood by us as well. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I won't be returning. I stopped by to place a large order for my grandmother, who's recovering from knee surgery, and at checkout, was suddenly told orders over $100 have a mandatory 20% gratuity. No signage, no heads-up -- nothing. When I asked how much the gratuity would add to my bill the cashier guessed wrong, then asked a coworker who threw out a random total way over what it should've been and I wasn't shown a final subtotal before the charge was applied. I asked for my receipt and surprise -- my subtotal was $95. With tax, $105.36. Yet they charged me $21.07 and listed it as a "tip." Not only was the gratuity applied to my post-tax total (which is not standard practice), but it was listed as a "TIP" rather than a service charge, which are two different things legally and for wage reporting. I have no issue tipping or with automatic gratuities when policies are clearly posted and fairly applied. But the lack of transparency, poor math, and mishandling by the staff left a bad taste in my mouth. Richmond has plenty of great vegan bakeries, and while Minglewood was one of my favorites, I'll be taking my business elsewhere moving forward. read more

Another good location, across from the Dhe Krazy store (I have a doggy so that's a point of reference for me, lol).
