I was very happy when a friend suggested this hidden gem in west Omaha. Among this area it sometimes seems like a chain restaurant mecca. And those restaurants that aren't chains have yet to really impress me as a whole. Med Bistro changed that. It's one of only a handful of places in the area that I would count among my favorite and am always eager to go to. This restaurant is really a hidden treasure! I would never have found this place on my own. My husband went here on a business meeting one day and thought of it when I was craving some really good meats. So, I said why not! I always like trying something new and if he suggested it, it has to be okay. When we finally made it to the restaurant, we walk in to a comfy looking restaurant. The seats in the booths remind me of a couch. It wasn't too crowded or anything which is perfect for a nice, laid back meal. I ordered the kabobs, my daughter got one too, and my husband got some other meat dish. My kabob was so tasty! I just loved it! With my meal, I also got some rice too. That was also very tasty! I love all the different flavors their food has. The only problem with this restaurant to me, is the wait time. We had to wait a really long time to get our meal and if you only have a little amount of time to eat, that wouldn't work. That being said, I still will come here again. We enjoyed a nice dinner at the Mediterranean Bistro last week, a nice overall experience. The restaurant is quiet, dimly lit, and cozy, with a fireplace in the center. The food is a mix of Mediterranean/middle eastern, and they also offer wines/drinks and desserts. We started out with some hummas and pita bread, the hummas was very good, highly recommended. My wife ordered the combo kabob with chicken and beef, and I had the ground beef kabob which is called kubideh, both dishes came with very good basmati rice and grilled veggies. My kabob was very good, cooked perfectly and really juicy, my wife's kabob had some amazing juicy chicken, but the beef was rather tough and not as flavorful, I'd stick with the chicken. The service was a bit slow, but they were doing a very brisk takeout business, so that may have contributed to our wait. Overall a nice dinner, we both agreed we'd go back. read more

We came here in July with one of our monthly dinner groups. The owner ended up being extremely rude because we hadn't made a reservation. And told us it was our fault that it took about 90 minutes to get our food. I had the Mediterranean fettuccine with shrimp. It was good, but I really couldn't enjoy it because of how we were treated. My wife and I were not going to come back again, but someone gave us a gift certificate, knowing that this used to be one of our favorite places. So we came back, and it was a much better experience. Of course there was only two of us this time. I had the Shrimp kabob, and it was excellent. There was enough on the plate that I was going to bring half of it home, but we were having such a nice relaxed time with just the two of us, that I kept slowly eating just to extend our time together. Excellent food BUT... price, service and ambiance are also important elements of deciding where to dine, hence the 1 star review. I hate how they add a 10% tip to all To Go orders. As someone who has worked in the service industry for 19 years I think this is so cringe. Oh and they don't tell you. There is a small sign on your way in that is easily missed. But when you go up to pay they definitely don't mention it or circle it on the bill. Also, they don't even bring it out to you curbside. Normally I leave a couple bucks on all To Go orders (and extra especially for curbside) but I think this business of tipping themselves is tacky. Also, if you choose to dine in they aren't shy about running you out the door at 1:30 so they can lock the doors at 1:45... The food is very good so it's a shame, but there are many other places to eat that don't act so entitled. read more

First time here since my son said it's the best and i just moved from Scottsdale to Omaha. Had the chicken kabob, rice and veggie sides. All of it delicious. Here's the kicker. Be SURE to get the habernaro sauce side and put it on your rice. Coat your spoon with a slight schmear of it and your ears will be on fire on the inside along with your tongue. It mad my soul so happy. It had the most outstanding flavor of any "salsa" I have eaten my entire life. It's hours later and that flavor still lingers on my tongue. This place was the closest thing to authentic Persian food. While they have appealed to the Nebraska audience, the modifications aren't horrific or something you can't ask to remove. The kabob kubideh and joojeh kabob were delicious. Not at all dry. The rice was fluffy and salted just right. The dolmeh had some weird salsa on top of it (definitely not Persian), so I was sure to ask them to remove it, every other time I visited this establishment. The decor is representative of what you would see in a Persian family's home. It was incredibly nostalgic, especially since I've been so far from home and my family (California). I've recommended this place to everyone, who has asked me, "what is Persian food?" I've tried other places in Omaha and they do not compare. So, props to the cooks. You get a lot for your money as well. The downside: the service is so bad. I've had experience with three different gals - only one has been ok and worth tipping. The other two are so rude, inattentive, oblivious and lack a sense of urgency. I thought it was just me, but after reading some other Yelp reviews, I realized I was not alone. Went for a business lunch. Ordered the Pomegranate and Walnut Chicken ($9), per reviewers suggestions, and was very disappointed. The sauce was syrupy sweet! There wasn't a brilliant culmination of flavors like I was expecting, just overly sweetened sauce and dry chicken. Even the barley soup that came with the meal was average, and served lukewarm. Soup should always come out hot, always. Lukewarm is never a good sign. I know this place offers good food, but maybe it was an off day. My experience was a lot better than Matt's, but I think it was because we went with some regulars, so service was up to normal, except at the end when they started cleaning the tables with pungent chemicals - but we had stayed a long time after our meal not eating dessert or drinking coffeej just talking and hanging out and it was 9pm on a Sunday in Omaha, so we got the message. Back to the meal. We had the appetizer sampler and everything was good. Smaller than the appetizer plate at El Basha, but more variety. The pita bread was warm and nicely spiced. The persian barley soup was creamy and tasty. My combo kabobs (2 skewers for $16 or $17) were good, but the steak was also well done (they did not ask me how I wanted the steak). This is the first restaurant I have been to that did not leave the skewers in and frankly I like not having to wrestle with my meal. I've never been here before, but I can honestly say, I will most likely not go again, however, the main entree' was still ok. The service was good, but, our server could have been a little more outgoing. She was efficient, got our orders right, and was attentive, but could have been a little more friendly. I do understand with everything going on in the world, she could have some outside problems going on. As I said, the entree's were very good but took a little longer than we thought they should have. I had the Mediterranean Shrimp fettucine. The upside was, not being overly sauced and came with plenty of shrimp. It was still adequately hot when it came to the table, but I could tell it had sat for a little bit, as the top looked a little dried out. They did alot of take out business, so that could very well be the reason for a little bit of a wait to get our entree's to our table. Then everyone else got their kabobs which they said were very good. We then had the desserts....baklava and kataifi. Both tasted sort of burnt and a little old. The baklava wasn't layered but more like all of the filling was put on the bottom of the pan and the phyllo dough laid on top of it. It was kind of like biting into a rubber biscuit. I've made baklava myself and it takes a long painstaking time to build it layer by layer and this definitely wasn't layered. The kataifi looked somewhat like a stuffed shredded wheat biscuit. Those are supposed to look slightly golden and be moist, but this looked and tasted like a burnt sparrow nest with walnuts in the middle of it. I don't know if they were serving the desserts from the day before, but they were definitely not very good. One of us had after dinner coffee and he indicated it was very bitter and I could tell when he put his cream in it that it looked old and the waitress even said she warmed it in the microwave so it might be hot. read more

Having read some of the reviews i can honestly say there have been some staff that haven't been the most friendly however the food here has been 5 stars ever since the first day I've been going and can't sing enough of its praises. For dessert, I was going to order the baklava but my mouth blurted out "Banana Princess!" I think I posted a photo of it... bananas and ice cream (maybe some whipped cream, too) sandwiched between a couple flaky pastries drizzled with chocolate sauce. It sounds pretty good but it was unbelievable good. I didn't share and don't feel the slightest bit guilty. I ordered ahead because the order takes about half an hour, so she yelled at me because me ordering ahead made the cook confused. Friendly service and great food! We had the hummus and olives for starters, and Persian tea. Then we had the chicken kabob and the Caspian kabob(with lamb) and they were delicious! Money laundering front? I went there on a Friday night and the place was closed even though the sign said they are open until 9. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back there Saturday at 8 again. This time staff was there but said the kitchen was closed. When I pointed out that their sign said they closed at 9, the "hostess" said that they closed early because business was slow. Stopped by based on a hunch it might be good. Honestly really impressed had the hummus an pita to start off. Minus I thought was "Salsa" was a bit of a surprise to my tongue which was holy hell spicy. The main entree of chicken and beef kabobs was fantastic, beef had a pleasant collection of spices and the grilled vegetables were just as good. Although I wish there was more veggies rather than the rice it was well worth it. The bathrooms could you some tile flooring and updates as well as some other areas of the restaurant. The jasmine iced tea is out of this world, and their pita is always warm and delicious. The decor is adorable, and inviting. You really can't go wrong with any of the menu choices. I met up with my boyfriend here for lunch one day a few years ago. I had no idea what 'Mediterranean' consisted of, and because I'm clearly an airhead, forgot my glasses. I swear, this is still his favorite story... Without being able to actually read the menu, I ordered the Spicy Chicken Tacos. Our waitress was sweet and set off. He grinned and said 'I have no idea what you just ordered, but I promise, this place does not serve tacos..." What came instead was the Spicy Chicken Toss. Here's the thing... everything on the menu is delicious, but I can't bring myself to order anything besides the spicy chicken toss because it is AMAZING. Sadly, I probably wouldn't have been adventurous enough to try something I was so unfamiliar with on purpose, so thank heavens for my airhead moments =) Now, I bring new victims... er.. friends, about twice a month and force them to order something else so I can try their food =) I can tell you that the escargot, falafel, lavosh, pomegranate chicken, baba ganoush, hummus, and the Persian lentil soup are all incredible =) Additionally, the waitress who is ALWAYS there is kind, attentive, and thoughtful.
