Ricky the driver was excellent, nice, and explained every step. He was so attentive to my mother. However, he was late. While I understand tragic weather played a factor in this, I was told he would be there between 440p and 530p. At 5:45, he was 15 minutes late. I called the office to see what was going on the woman I spoke to, I believe her name was ReAnn.', was rude. She told me at one point he was 20 minutes away then she said 5 minutes away. When I asked her which one it was, she said, " well, before I was interrupted, you asked for an estimated time. In the situation I was in I didn't need her rudeness or sarcasm. When I told her I was told between 430 and 530 and not 430 and 6 o'clock. She was rude. As I said, she was rude, but Ricky was great so when I called on Monday to let management know of the situation, I spoke to Shane. He was very nice and apologetic; however, he is not the one that should've been apologizing. In fact, the call to him should never have happened . Because of Ricky and Shane, this place gets four stars. What I use them again? Yes,,only if the transport was in town. read more

They will be late. In our most recent engagement they finally came 2 hours past their original pick up window. I would call the dispatcher every 30 minutes past our pick up time and would be assured that they were only "20 minutes away". Lies It is hot right now and to be so late when picking up elderly and medically compromised customers can cause a significant threat to their health. They are not on time! I scheduled a one way transport from the hospital to a care facility to pick up the patient at 4pm. MedStar didn't show up until after 5pm! When I called around 4:10 I was told they have a one hour window to arrive! They don't tell you that when you schedule. I will never use this company again. read more

Leave her in the Dr's office waiting room. After waiting 1 hour for an on call pickup from the Dr's office and still no transportation in sight a second phone call was made. I was told it would be an additional 30 to 45 minutes before pickup. I explained that I personally had an appointment in 1/2 hour. Medstar's solution was to leave my 91 year old mother in law restricted to a wheel chair alone in the Dr's waiting room & Medstar would get there when they could. Of course I did no such thing. 3 phone calls later & 2 hours, transportation showed up & I cancelled any future dates with them that I had. read more

I had to arrange long distance transport for my stepmother who has dementia to San Francisco from Peoria, AZ. Liz and Jennifer were prompt, efficient and completely caring- no small feat considering what they had to contend with. They quoted me a price, honored it, sent the dream team Liz and Jennifer, of course) to accompany their patient, and did it with a level of empathy I myself doubt I could have mustered. If there was a way to give a company negative stars, this would be that situation... My father passed away a week ago. My parents were both together in a hospice group home when it happened. My mother, who has end stage Parkinson's Disease and Dementia, is bed-bound. Obviously, it was important for us to get her to her husband's funeral service. MedStar was referred to us by the hospice company tending to my mother, so I called and set up round trip transport from the group home to the church where the services were being held. I had only 2 specific requests of the transport service. That my mother arrive at a specific time, and that she be in a stretcher (which they offer) because she has severe pain being in a wheelchair. On the day of the funeral, the transport van arrived over a half hour late. Also, she was sitting up in a wheelchair and crying because of the pain she was in as a result of the nearly hour-long drive. When I asked the driver why she wasn't in a stretcher as requested, he replied that he "didn't know she was supposed to be". The funeral went on but timelines were pushed because of her late arrival resulting in additional costs incurred with the funeral service. And my mother was in additional physical pain throughout because of the wheelchair. I called to speak with MedStar this morning to get some answers regarding their shortcomings for this transport. They stated that the wheelchair had the ability to lay down in a "stretcher configuration", but the driver NEVER said that was possible when we asked why she was upright and NEVER explained to us the capabilities of that particular style wheelchair. Also, they placed blame on the care facility for the delay in their departure to get my mother there on time. After insisting that they were not going to do anything to make it right with us for their failures and basically blaming everyone else (including us) but themselves, the supervisor eventually just hung up the phone on us mid conversation. Yes, they accomplished the mission of getting my mother to and from the funeral. But if you are looking for a specific time you need the transport accomplished or need your loved one actually cared for and not treated like a piece of meat, then I would look for a different company. read more

This company has problems meeting their promised pickup times. They charge a hefty fee and do not perform up to standard. We hired them to transport my mom to 3 dialysis appointments an paid them over $420 for the 3 round-trips. Of the 6 pickups they failed on 3 of them. That is a 50% fail read more

I have a long history of problems with my transportation with this company, and it almost always traces back to the dispatcher. For example, today I had an 11:45 AM PRESCHEDULED return trip home from a sedated surgical procedure. My driver notified the front desk at 11:40 AM that she was there to pick me up, but she got an order from dispatch to leave and provide service to other passengers. This means my PRE-SCHEDULED return trip pick up was CANCELLED by the DISPATCHER, leaving me to phone Medstar and execute a "will-call," which meant that I would have to wait until they found a driver that could come to get me. I called and was told that the dispatcher would be unable to do that for at least an hour. I asked to speak to a supervisor, who listened to my explanation of what happened, put me on hold for several minutes, then returned to tell me I would have to speak to the dispatcher: I was transferred to that dispatcher, only to get a recording telling me that extension was not available -- then my call was terminated from their end. In another call to Medstar shortly afterward, I was again told I would have to speak to the dispatcher, only to get an identical repeat from the previous time. Ultimately, my "will-call" arrived for my 11:45 AM pickup at 2:48 PM, just over two hours LATER than was PRE-SCHEDULED. This is frustratingly typical of what you can expect from this company. I'll be notifying my insurance company that I AM NOT to be scheduled with this company EVER again. By the way: it's pointless for Medstar to deny these events because I have an app on my phone that records ALL calls, both incoming and outgoing. I can prove exactly who said what and when insofar as phone calls are involved. I've got them by the danglies, and I'm fixing to yank 'em off. [There are "misdeeds" documented by other people via YELP and posts on Medstar's Facebook Page. Many people are having inexcusable problems due to Medstar's ineptitude. One man wrote about her mother with multiple fractures, strapped to a gurney, being dropped out of the van onto the ground. The driver ignored orders by the woman's son to call 911, then when the woman was wheeled back into the hospital, the driver was heard on the phone saying to dispatch, "Yeah, there's a lot of drama here." Really? Ya think? Gee, driver, if you hadn't caused the drama with your blatant incompetence, there wouldn't be any drama...] read more

The VA contracted MedStar to transport me to my dialysis appointment three days a week. They have had ten scheduled pickups now, and have succeeded in getting me to my appointment by my scheduled check-in on time on only three occasions. I drove myself two times to avoid missing my start time. I am supposed to call for a pickup after my treatment. I have had to wait an hour for pickup for every return trip after being on a dialysis machine for four hours. On Wednesday, May 31. I was informed by the customer service agent that I would have to call the VA and have them "authorize" my return trip home after three p.m. Right...?!?!? So--after four hours on dialysis, in a state of near collapse, late in the afternoon, with no phone number for the VA on me--I am supposed to jump through hoops to get an "authorization" for a service that has been "authorized" for three weeks? Even if I had had a number for the VA Travel Office the way it works is they request for you to leave a phone number and they will "...get back to you...." That can take anywhere from three days to never (usually never). When I protested this "service" has been "authorized" for the past three weeks, the agent I was talking to--who claimed her name was "October" and she WAS the supervisor on duty--got rude. Frustrated I finally hung up. I was left with a five mile walk home--which I am physically unable to do--and stranded. Needless to say, I will not be using this "service" again even if I have to discontinue dialysis and die...!?!?! read more

Our trip to our local doctor for my mother in a wheelchair began on the wrong foot. They arrived perfectly on time, only to let us know that they didn't have room, then left saying they would send another vehicle to pick us up. Shortly thereafter about 20 minutes later, another van pulled up to get us. Katherine and Don arrived and really made our day, both were extremely polite, professional, and just overall very nice. My dad was discharged from the hospital, i paid 157 dlls for his transportation, they told me that he's going to be picked up between 6:30-7:30 they arrived at 8:20 saying that they had in the system between 7:30 -8 but i have to wait for another 20 more min because they are busy with another transportation like really? Look for another service if you don't want to be waiting for about 1-2 hrs after and be late to your appointment, or like me waiting in the hospital, horrible service! read more

This company is a joke! We paid for my father in law to be transferred from cottonwood to Phoenix so we could set up in home hospice. We were told they would arrive from 130-3 well around 315 we found out they weren't coming. Not only did they not bring my father in law home they also kept our money. My father in law passed away and we have to wait 10 business days to get our $500 back! I know have funeral costs and am short on cash since I had to pay another transfer company that actually did their job. This place is terrible and could care less about the people they say they are helping. If you need a medical transfer use another company! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I booked Medstar to pick up my 88 year old parents from Sky Harbor at 7:00 p.m., following 7 hours of cross country air travel and a three hour time change. While at the gate waiting to disembark, the driver called my cell phone to check our ETA. I told him 30 minutes to exit, grab bags and get to the curb (within our schedule pickup window). He called again 5 minutes later to tell he had been redirected to 77th and Thunderbird and would pick up us after that. I told him that would be a minimum of 1.5 hours and he agreed. He told me the dispatcher would call to arrange for another van. No one called. I tried to call the driver but he did not answer or return my call after I left a message. Thirty minutes after the scheduled pickup I called Medstar and was told a replacement van would be there in 15 minutes. After 30 minutes I called again. I was told the driver had been waiting at baggage door #7 and was now circling and he would call me. No one called. After another 15 minutes I called Medstar again and I was told I needed to move from the baggage area to the hotel van pickup area. I had to move two wheelchairs and a luggage cart to the new pick up area. After another 15 minutes I called Medstar again. I asked to speak to the dispatcher. Medstar would not let me talk to him. I was told the driver was in the area. I turned around and the driver was approaching the original pick up area. He stopped in an area without wheelchair accessibility. Now I had to get the 88 year olds in wheelchairs and a baggage cart back across 3 lanes of traffic and 50 yards down the curb through traffic. All told my 88 year old parents had to sit in 90 degree heat as Medstar continued to misrepresent that the driver was at Sky Harbor in the pickup lane when in reality Medstar was not at the airport, canceled our pickup without notice and ultimately arrived over 1 1/2 hours late. I received no explanation, no discount and no apology. read more

Med Star sent over one person to transport my mom from the hospital to a nursing home as she recovered from multiple fractures. As we were in the parking lot of the hospital and after attempting to jam her into the back of the van 2x, on the 3rd time, she rolled out of the van and slammed onto the ground. Luckily still strapped to the gurney, but never the less excruciating pain as she was dropped straight down from a high level. This was bad enough, but when I told the driver to call 911, he said 'Oh wait, just wait a second, can we talk". I said "no you need to call 911 now, and he said please "this is my second day on the job". I screamed at him in horror to his response to bring her back into the hospital. As we were going into the elevator, he said "hold on, I need to send a text". As if this was not bad enough, he was literally leaning over my mother as he said to dispatch sarcastically "yeah, there is so much drama here", as the nurses were walking over to inspect my mother. I know I would want a transport company that uses the correct amount of staffing for transfers, one that knows what to do in an emergency, one that does not stall care because he does not want something reported and one that does not stand around making ridiculous comments while standing over the frail, elderly crying patient..... read more

I've worked as a CNA in many SNF's around the east valley over the past 2 years and 2 transport guys from your company stick out the most! Clinton & Kevin Brown! I've witnessed Kevin and his incredibly calming and reassuring demeanor with patients while we are transferring them from stretcher to bed many times. He has an amazing way to connect with the patients he transports! Clinton is always very kind and loves engaging everyone in conversation, great at reassuring nervous patients as well. If i could rate below zero i would! unfortunately I have to select something to write the review. I called Banner to set up transportation for my wheelchair bound husband the week of October 14th. I recieved a conformation number and a scheduled pickup time of 9am. From our home it is a maximum 15 minute ride, but I do understand the early scheduled pick up times. We needed to be at the lab by 10am, and the van showed up at 10am. The driver had many apologies but none of them changed the fact that we were now running late for xrays and labs. (for which my husband was fasting for) once at our destination, the clinic got us in and out pretty quickly and at 11:09 i called for our return trip. We waited patiently because we were told it would be 60-90 minutes. I waited until 1:25 to call back (2 hours and 15 minutes wait) and I was told by Banner that they were really sorry, but although the call was dispatched out at 11:11, no one was sent for out return. SO, we literally were waiting in vain! The lady at Banner placed me on hold several times to contact MedStar, and then came back on the phone with a million more apologies, saying she did what she could and to call back in 15-20 minutes. ( to check the status of our ride) I called back...I even gave them a few more minutes, and I was told that MedStar was trying to locate any driver with a wheelchair capable van and it "might" be another 60-90 minutes! EXCUSE ME?????? So after 3 hours, they wanted us to wait an additional 60-90 minutes?? Which would have brought us to almost five hours of wait time! Meanwhile, my husband hadn't eaten, he had medication to take and he is also sick with a nasty cold! Thankfully there is a bus stop in front of the hospital that we were able to catch (luckily I had a dollar for his fare!) and after two buses, and walking in 80 degree heat (he is extremely heat sensitive and got sunburned!) we finally made it home! This was our first time ever having to use MedStar and we will NEVER use them again or recommend them! I am an Army Veteran and I will share my poor experience with anyone who will listen! I cannot believe that a company like this exists. Shame on you! read more

My first experience (and last I hope) with this company was totally unacceptable. My 87 year old mother was at Banner University Hospital for a broken hip. The transport was supposed to be there to pick her up between 3 and 4. After several calls by the nursing staff, they finally arrived at 9:00. Someone, I am assuming the dispatch person lied to the nurses.The young man that actually came to load her up was very nice but by then I was extremely upset that we waited over 5 hours. That put us at the Rehab place after 10:00 in the evening. The 1 star is only for the young man as I am sure he was just following the orders of the dispatch. My husband, after an emergency/hospital stay on July 29/30, 2020, was transported back to our home on Camelback and 78th St. from Honor Health Hospital, Osborn/Drinkwater. It was a totally unacceptable horrid transport. My husband has Parkinson's and had contracted covid19. He went to the ER because of extreme weakness, treated and spent one night in the hospital. Honor Health Osborn, apparently, contracts with this Company, and needs to know what kind of service this is for $ 139... for a drive that takes about 6/7 minutes. The condition of the vehicle, probably 120 degrees inside, a driver, who drove like a maniac and didn't know the address, drover further than necessary, his appearance was frightful, unkempt etc. and my husband arrived on our 7th floor condo in a stretcher, that sat on floor, where he could hardly get out. He was in a worse shape than when he was picked up Ambulance. I will report this incident to our insurance, the Honor Health Hospital Administration and the Maricopa Medical Board. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. read more

My husband is undergoing dialysis. There was an older gentleman in a wheelchair, he was a retired Marine but so many awards on his hat. He waited almost two hours for Medstar to pick him up. For those of you who just want to know if they should use this company or not without reading a long review let me just say this. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY TRANSPORTATION NEEDS. I needed stretcher transport to my first post-op appointment with my neurosurgeon after having spine surgery. I was told they would be at my house at 8:00am for a 9:00am appointment. They showed up at 8:25am. Luckily rush hour was not so bad and I made it to my appointment on time. But that's not the bad part. What made my experience so horrible was calling them at 11:30am to be picked up at the doctor's office so they can take me back home, and they not getting there until two hours later. I had to call them a total of three times to find out what's taking so long and all they could say is that they are running behind. Completely unacceptable. I will never use them again. read more

We use Medstar for our job. We constantly are transporting patients to and from the hospital as well as doctor appointments. They have great service, drivers are friendly and professional .. they have definitely improved with their quality of customer service over the last couple of months. It's only a 4 star as sometimes you are on hold for a while as they are a very busy company. We tend to make multiple calls, which can be time consuming per call, but overall we use them consistently and they are continuing to improve. read more

My father had to be admitted to a therapy center. He requires dialysis 3 times a week. On a Saturday, he was scheduled for dialysis at 12:30. Medstar said they would pick him up at 11:15. They picked him up, but then got lost and drove around for 1.5 hours (the dialysis place was up the street about 5 minutes). They brought him back to the therapy center and missed his dialysis appointment. My dad was very distraught and said the female driver was very rude to him. He was rescheduled for 4:00. He called us at 6:15 and said he had just begun receiving his dialysis. After a few hours, he called and said he had been abandoned and nobody had come to pick him up! He had been sitting and waiting for an hour!! Since he had arrived at dialysis late, they had only been able to do 2 of his 4 required hours, and then the company did not return to pick him up!! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?? My family went to get him and we got him back to the therapy center. When we questioned administration at therapy center, they said they clearly had him scheduled and it was Medstar's error. A week later, he was also "forgotten" at dialysis, but therapy center was able to get a hold of someone, so they were just about 40 minutes late. Medstar is very unreliable. Unfortunately, it is the only company the therapy center uses, so we don't have a lot of choice, but if you do, please save your loved one the trouble and use another company. read more

I would recommend any other transport. The service was arranged through the hospital for the transportation of my grandmother and it was a nightmare! They got her to the facility but somehow her purse never made it. TMC and the care facility were professional and smart enough to do a property check upon arrival and discharge but not Medstar . After repeated attempts to contact them, I was finally able to talk to a "manager" just to find her completely uncaring and rude. I was told when patients are ambulatory, it is up to them to make sure the drivers give them all of their possessions. I am not sure how someone strapped to a stretcher and on oxygen is supposed to do that but the Medstar manager made sure she freed herself of any responsibility. Also, unfortunately for us, the driver is on vacation for an undisclosed amount of time. This has been such a fiasco and a horrible end to a trying time. If you have your option for a transport, I would remove this company from your list. read more
