We took our 10 year old beagle to MedVet after she went into ketoacidosis after not being treated properly by our regular vet. Although our dog ultimately died, I feel that the treatment she received by the MedVet staff was excellent. Lily was there for 3 days and i received regular updates on her condition as well as also being updated on the cost of her treatment. Dr. Brown in particular was compassionate and patient as she answered my questions and explained Lily's prognosis. I would highly recommend MedVet. Brought in my wonderful pet. She was so tired and so old. The picked up my 100 pound girl and gently placed her on the gurney. Almost everyone was wonderful and compassionate. There was only one girl who doesn't seem to like her job and was less than personable. She didn't mind receiving payment and telling us she will stop the process if payment wasn't made immediately. I overlooked her behavior because of the state I was in. It is very expensive to have your dog euthanized here, $390.00 no amenities such as paw print, but it's a decent emergency department. read more

We took our 17 year-old Boston in for an ear infection on a Friday, 10-20-23, because we could not get him in anywhere else. They sent us home after giving him a shot for nausea. NO meds, NO nothing. I asked about his ears and the vet said, "That is not the issue. We need to do an MRI." She then led me to believe that he likely had a stroke and was ready to be euthanized. She told me to take him home and enjoy a last weekend with him. If he was not better on Monday, to bring him back for euthanasia! When I got home, I looked at the paperwork. Meanwhile, he shook his head hard and spoonfuls of green pus came out of his ears! THE VET NEVER EVEN LOOKED IN HIS EARS! They did not take his temperature either! My poor dog suffered for 4 days until I could get him in with my regular vet... and guess what they found? A MASSIVE EAR INFECTION!! My poor geriatric dog did not eat for 3 days. I called to get more anti-nausea medicine and they refused to dispense anything. From talking on the phone to schedule our initial consultation to the entire staff of MedVet being incredibly kind and friendly We received a doctor consultation and also a personal phone call from the Surgery department once we decided to go forward with the procedure. Everything was explained in full detail. We were able to ask questions and everything that we discussed was sent to us in writing in an email. In our opinion this place is top notch and they know all the habits and personalities of dogs and what to expect. Our personal vet from Twinsburg recommended MedVet to us. Our Shih-tzu is doing very well and we could not be more pleased. I Know everyone has an experience and a opinion. Our experience with Medvet Akron (Copley), Emergency Services, was a true nightmare that will stay with us forever. Our wonderful vet sent our beautiful dog there on a Saturday for an ultrasound. There were concerns with his blood work and a mass was detected somewhere in the abdomen. It was a weekend, right before Christmas, and despite the phone conversation with our vet, and the detailed records and information she sent the ER doctor, nothing was done other than a blood transfusion. They were not proactive in any way whatsoever. They lack a sense of urgency, transparency and communication. The doctors and staff we encountered were subpar and not attentive at all to our dog and his serious condition. Their mantra was "we will refer him to our Internal Medicine staff on Monday." We told them that Monday may be too late if there was a mass. It was too late and our dog passed away, right after we visited him and finding him in terrible condition, that Sunday evening. The ER doctors spent little to no time with him, did not show care or compassion for him, nor did they contact us when they saw his condition changed for the worse. We asked the one doctor that treated him on Sunday what was going on with our dog and he said it could be many things! He was detached and not caring in any manner. Our dog walked into that facility on Saturday alert and wagging his tail. When we arrived that Sunday evening to personally see our dog as we were concerned by the lack of detail that doctor provided us at a 5:00pm phone call. Our dear dog was laying on a blanket, on the floor, with shallow breathing. He could not even walk! How could this change in 24 hours? The staff was walking over him to get to the other dogs in the cages. They paid no attention to him and the ER doctor (a different one who took over the case after 5:00 pm) was just walking around and never once came to see us or our dog the two hours we were in the ICU with our precious and loved dog. She then called 10 minutes after we left and said he stretched and stopped breathing--just like that. Her words were cold and uncaring. The two doctors that really didn't treat him should have their licenses suspended or revoked. We called them during the time our dog was there and they basically had no information to share other than his vitals were all normal. So why did he pass away? They cannot answer this question at all. He did not have to leave the world this way and did not deserve this type of treatment and care. We are appalled and shocked by what we saw there. This is definitely not a 24-hour emergency treatment facility for animals. If you are there after 5:00 pm on a Friday, and before 8:00 am on a Monday, you cannot expect the emergency service and care that your animal deserves. They place "bandages" on your animal and expect the crew on the weekdays to do all of the work. Not only did we not have our beloved dog taken by them the week before Christmas, he is also not in our life at all today. We will unfortunately never have closure and know what and why this happened to such a sweet boy who loved everyone and was so engaging. The Medvet Akron system is broken as far as ER treatment is concerned. We are truly devastated with the loss of our loving dog and shocked by what we saw and experienced at this organization. read more

We had to have our dog euthanized on 9/20/23 due to seizures I called before we came out and was quoted $350 they tried to bill $650 so then a manager got involved in it and reduced the bill down to $435 which I paid we were there for 31/2 hours while my dog was suffering she had a seizure while we were there no veterinarian just the techs who did not know what they were doing my dog suffered for 31/2 hours for no good reason very unprofessional. Our dog ended up having emergency surgery and required to stay two nights. I was quoted $4500-5500 for everyone. I paid $4500 deposit. When we want to pick her up, the total was over $6,000. Two people including the doctor told me they would call me if it went over the estimated price. No one called and I found this out at time of discharge. Highway robbery!! Then a week later we call in to the office because our dog seems to have an infection and oozing from her incision. They told us to email pics. I immediately sent pics. My dog had to have a luxating patella surgery on both her knees. My dogs vet recommended Mr. Anson. He was amazing. He explained the whole issue with what happens to my dog in the kneecap. He explained the muscles and bones and tissue in the leg. He explained the procedure. I am very impressed. The follow up appointments he was awesome. Very knowledgeable and very kind. This place was about 45min from me so it was quite a drive but was worth it. A year post operation and my dog is doing amazing. She's a different. She can run and jump and walk without her leg popping out. She doesn't limp at all. They have you fill out a form about your pet (is it ok with other animals, favorite food, etc) to help your pets feel comfortable. They were very patient with me as I don't trust anyone but our vet with my dog. The techs were very nice. The only problem we had was the person at the front desk. She was very rude and pushy. Had a frown on her face. Very impatient. And the wait times can be hours and hours long. Otherwise, I recommend medvet! read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. It's taken me months to even be able to write this review without losing it. I will start by saying the front desk staff and the vet assistant were great and caring. The actual doctor made the experience so bad. I brought my cat in because she was sick. She had fluid in her stomach. They took her back and after an hour they put me in a room for the doctor to come talk to me. They were under construction so the room they put me in was doubling as their back room I'm assuming. The doctor walked in and instantly got angry and said why are you in this room. I nicely said this is where your staff put us. She then asked if I had another animal at home and if they were acting sick. I said I did but that he was acting fine. She then whipped out a vial of blood they had pulled from my cats stomach and just said she has cancer. I very obviously broke down and the vet acted annoyed basically rolling her eyes at my crying. Thankfully my friend was with me who was able to point out that this was a normal reaction to hearing you need to put your pet down. She then brought my cat in so I could spend time before we did the procedure. After five minutes she came back and asked if we could just do this already because she was busy. I declined and took a few more minutes. When she did come in we did the procedure and as soon as my cat passed she scooped her up holding her outwards towards me while she dangled and talked about how since I was crying I should leave through the back and not the front door. Other than the support staff being sweet I will never in my life take another pet here. Honestly I got in the car so livid that those were my last moments with my best friend. My dog was peeing blood. All the local vets were booked out for two weeks. We took her to Medvet at 3pm. The nurse said that it could be 4-5 hours. I understand, it's an E.R. it is currently 12:16am. Still nothing. I called to ask if my dog even went out in the last couple of hours. The nurse said they drained her bladder before she went in at 3pm. The nurse then combatively told me that she leaves her dog out home without a potty for 10 hours. My dog was peeing blood ( wouldn't you think that my dog probably has a bladder issue?) I understand it's an E.R. the fact that the staff got combative and rude after asking if my dog went out shows the customer service level. The fact that my dog has been sitting in a cage since 3pm without being let out side shows maybe they are not the best at taking care of your pet. avoid this place. read more

We took my wife's pup Devin there at about 530am on July 21, 2022 we was the only people there. Told them he had collapsed at around 630pm and later wasn't moving anything but his eyes watching my wife. We have him some water around 1am and he throw up about 10 minutes later only moving his head never try to get up. We finally found Med-Vet ER hospital in AKRON which is about 40/50 miles away, had our friend come from AKRON too pick us up and drive us back to Akron to hospital. They would not let my wife go back with him after they came out to put him on gurney to take him in. We told them we had $433 and we want to find out what was wrong with him and save him. After about 20 min they took my wife's phone back to take a picture of him for her, they had only given him oxygen at that point. After another 20 min the vet, Wendy Kollar, came into a room they put us in and said that he was critical and suffering that we should put him down but would not tell us what was wrong with him or why he was like that. After asking several times we never got an answer to why those was happening to him my wife left the room physically sick. Less than an hour after we got there they brought him in to a room for us to say goodbye to him. Back history Devin is from my sister's dogs and my wife her BFF and myself was all there when Devin was born. He came out mom pushed him a side won't even clean him, my wife noticed he wasn't moving or breathing quickly have him CPR but the mom still would not expect him. My wife took him and another pup home with us that very day and had never been away from Devin a day in his short life, JULY 5, 2016 to July 21, 2022. After Devin was put to sleep they told us there was no charge but if we wanted him cremated it's would be $400 or they would put him in a bag for us to take his body home. We were asking the whole time what could have caused this why did this happen and why so fast, even just give us a guess of a few things it might have been so we could go through and see if anything fit because I have a dog as well and if it might have been heritable her BFF had his brother. EVER QUESTION WAS IGNORED LIKE WE WASN'T ASKING ANYTHING! NO ANSWER WAS GIVEN! We had not signed any paperwork for anything up to this point. The only paper that was signed was when my wife came back inside to tell them that Eternal Paws would be coming to pick Devin's body up to take care of him, it was just for them to release his body. We have messaged the ER about getting the paperwork from that day emailed it mailed to us so our vet can look them over but of course have not received anything. So within an hour of taking Devin there to save his life he was out to sleep because we was told that he was critical and suffering but no test was done no information was given NO questions answered. We were told 3-4 hours before she was seen. We got updates to just keep us informed of how she was doing. Went to pick up the dog and of course covid procedures they bring your pet back out to you... and let me just say... the lady bringing her out was such a sweetheart. My pups eyes were swollen so bad & he had hives ALL over his body & they started to make him lethargic as well. We were recommended to go here & i absolutely loved it here. We were seen right away & the doctor communicated everything that was happening with him while we were waiting. Finally we were told it was a bite of some sort that caused an allergic reaction. I wasn't charged any unnecessary fees & i could tell the people there really do care as if it was their own pet. Would definitely recommend to friends & family! Thank you guys! read more

We took our cat here because he wasn't eating or going to the bathroom. They took x rays and said they found a piece of sting and that he needed surgery right or away or he needed to be put down. They said the surgery would cost 6-7 thousand. We decided on neither. We asked for our x rays and they where reluctant to give them to us. We where given a CD that they said the x rays where on. At home we could not get the CD to play. The next two days we made sure to get some liquids into him. We where able to get him into another vet for surgery and they told us it would only cost 2 thousand! We gave them the CD of the x rays incase that would help. At the end they told us nothing was on the CD. And when they went to preform the surgery they found no string in him. In the end it only cost us 1,300. I would do zero stars if I could. They charge way too much money. Like they wanted 3 grand up front to save my cats life. What normal person can just pull that much money out of their ass. They don't do payment plans either. I received a call about my card declining and the woman was extremely rude and hostile. I mean this lady was pretty much yelling. I tried to explain to her that we don't have that money right now. She told me ok and that she was gonna write it down as we are refusing to pay and have it put to collections. The lady at the front desk the day I was in their building told us we had to call them to make a payment. But the papers say something completely different. How is it my fault that you people aren't all on the same page and don't have it together. The lady on the phone was so so rude and talked to me like it was my fault. If you need your animal checked on I recommend taking them to the stow kent animal hospital. MedVet told me that because I didn't have $3,000 they wouldn't save my cats life and sent us off telling us he would die within a few days. But then my primary vet (Stow Kent Animal Hospital) had me bring him in and they saved his life in a much more affordable plan. read more

we brought our dog in this past friday night with a wound on her leg that was bleeding profusely. after 45 minutes of waiting, they took her back and brought us into a separate room. the vet told us "the cut is only a centimeter or two max, it isn't that bad. we could waste our time and your money stitching it or we could just let it heal on its own for less". she was sure to mention repeatedly that she got off at 11, it would be a waste of time to do surgery, and specifically said to us "she won't let me look at it or clean it or anything but it looks fine". after paying our 300$ !!! they brought our dog out - wearing a cone, some meds, and with her wound still open and bleeding !!! i asked about it being wrapped or cleaned and the tech said it was a "difficult situation" but it should be fine because it's so minor. we get home, still bleeding all over, and sleep it off. the next morning i get a better look at the "minor" wound - easily an inch deep and still bleeding pretty bad. a vet tech friend of mine advised we wrap it and get to our vet ASAP for cleaning and potential removal surgery. fast forward to Monday , our vet is doing a removal surgery because in her words the wound was "neglected and dirty" from the ER. i am both ashamed in the care we got and thankful it wasn't something worse that could've killed my dog. read more

Our dog needed a few stitches replaced on her back that had broken open --called MedVet and they told us 2 hour wait time. My husband drove over at 6:30 pm on a Friday night and was told he would have to wait in the car, but that our dog had to come in to wait ... she was put in a cage with open, oozing stitches... we both called into the office at 9 pm, 10 pm, 11 pm, midnight...all while he was sitting in the parking lot...no vet had seen our dog, and no promises would be made as to when they could get to her. At 1 am, he asked to take her home and finally left ... 7 hours later. Her wound was red and more aggravated -- seeping and bleeding . They did nothing for her in 7 hours. Never again. read more

Our Maltese was attacked by a pitbull with significant injuries. They took him right back to the ER and told us they would call with updates. 4 hours later, no call. We called them and waited on hold for over 15 minutes. Finally were told the doctor hadn't seen him yet, although he was given pain medication. An hour later we received a call from the ER doctor who said he had a badly broken jaw, a fairly large abdominal wound and multiple puncture wounds and would need a specialist surgeon to fix his jaw. We asked what about his tongue injury (his tongue was hanging out the side of his mouth with signficant bleeding). The ER doctor didn't even examine his tongue. In actuality his tongue was split in half from tip to base which the surgeon identified and reconstructed. Dr. Callard the surgeon WAS PHENOMENAL!!!! Great surgeon, very understanding and informative. The reason I'm giving two stars is because the phone staff is either horribly incompetent or they are severely understaffed and the staff does no education whatsoever in post surgical care for your dog. In the course of our dogs 2 day hospitalization, surgery and follow up care the staff never called once with an update, except the ER doc x 1 and the surgeon x 2. Of the multiple times we called them(over 20 times all hours of the day), we never waited less than 10 minutes on hold. If you hang up and call back they answer immediately so they obviously aren't so busy they can't answer the phone. On discharge, they told me my dog could eat soft food only as he had a jaw brace on his bottom teeth. Actually, my dog wouldn't eat or drink at all. I ended up having to blend all food and feed him food and water by small syringe every few hours for 5 days. His tongue injury was so bad, he couldn't coordinate it to eat so he would push the food out of his mouth. They had never checked to see if he could eat or drink prior to discharge. I'm a nurse and we would never discharge a patient home without even trying to see if they could eat or drink and don't believe they should do this with animals. Then his first feeding he just shook and then vomited. I called them (approx 1 hour after discharge) talked with a surgical tech to see if they would prescribe something for nausea. She said he'd have to be reevaluated by the ER doctor because something could be wrong with him. THAT IS CRAP! If they discharged him home the implication is he's been examined and deemed well enough to discharge so how could that change in one hour. I refused to put my dog through the trauma of sitting in the ER for another 6-7 hours. Luckily I had Zofran here and looked up the dose, gave it and surprise, the shaking stopped and he held down his food. I also asked about placing a feeding tube because I had just had surgery and wasn't supposed to be lifting or moving my neck excessively. The surgery tech told me they didn't do feeding tubes to go home. Finally after 3 days without improvement I demanded they call the surgeon who said they would put in a feeding tube if he didn't improve in a few days. As it turned out, on day 5 he was able to eat small chunks of soft food fed by hand and drank water out of a bowl. I am not a dog doctor and knew nothing about syringe feedings, dog nausea, etc. They (except Dr. Callard) didn't educate me or help me at all with my questions, their only response was always "bring him back". I will never go back there again even if I have to drive miles to another hospital. While the surgeon was wonderful, the overall lack of responsiveness, education to pet parents and the constant waits on hold are just too stressful to add to your life when your pet is also hurt or injured. read more

I asked if it was indeed an emergency care facility and she said yes, but they can't help. They took excellent care of my fur baby. They answered all mine and my fiancés questions, no matter how many we had, no matter how "stupid" the questions were. We were transferred from the BrookPark location, where they didn't tell the truth about how this location does their deposits and they still honored it! This location is about 20 minutes further from the closest one to us but as long as it isn't an urgent emergency, we will always pick this location! Worse experience ever. I have never met a more rude group of employees. The staff was unhelpful with every question I asked. Dr Carrie Griffith was the worse of all. She showed no compassion in a time of need. My 1 year old puppy had broken his femur bone and needed surgery asap. During my whole visit I felt like a nuisance rather then a nervous pet owner. If possible go elsewhere!! read more
