Dr Sam Seramur was his doctor and was very comforting and gave us plenty of time to be with him before and after the procedure. Brady never turned down food so when they brought in chicken, he gobbled it down and although it immediately came back up, he enjoyed that last meal. The tech who gently removed his body wrapped in blankets was so kind and it meant a lot when he said that he could tell we were good dog parents. I hope no one reading this has to ever go through this but if you do, I recommend this caring business .

By the time I arrived Elsa was responsive and stabilizing. Literally a minute after taking Elsa from me, the vet told me she had stopped breathing and needed CPR. I said go do what you have to do. The vet, who seemed almost annoyed at having to play nursemaid to an ailing cat came back out a few minutes later and said she was gone. Make no mistake, Elsa had numerous complications, and I probably would have had to put her down eventually. But it would have been on my terms, and she would have been with me instead of dying at the hands of a compassionless ghoul. If I had gone straight home from Sage Imaging instead of stopping by this house of horrors that passes for a vet hospital, Elsa would be alive. Steer clear of this place like you would the Bates Motel. Nothing but death and sorrow await you.

The doctors were quick and communicative and even sent us pictures as we were rushing to get back. The doctors stabilized him and we got to bring him home which was my biggest wish. They gave us an extra two days to say goodbye and got him in good enough shape to be able to go in some final walks and swims. Ultimately we had to say goodbye (no fault of AVES - the emergency was caused by a fatal underlying cancer that we did not know about- our pets are great at hiding pain). Though I wish the outcome was different - I will be forever grateful to AVES for saving our boy so we could be with him and say goodbye.

My friend had the same terrible experience as I did so this is not just a one off. The doctor will never speak to you or see you after the initial first visit, he will just examine your dog for 5 minutes. The nurse will then report back whatever he says without seeming like she has even the slightest knowledge about your pets history. This was for a $1,200+ visit too. Dr. Dolan always seemed to be out of the office when I would call for my critical dogs condition as well. Also, be aware that the oncology department does not work on Fridays at this office. Even if your dog goes to their ER on a Friday with a serious problem, the Oncologist's nurse won't be able to speak with you until Monday. I had called with serious concerns about my dog on a Thursday and again just spoke to the nurse and not the Doctor. They made it seem like his symptoms weren't an issue but come to find out it was a major sign that my dog's tumor was rupturing. Have I heard from Dr. Dolan since knowing that my dog was taken into their ER that Friday and had to be put down? Nope. Because they do not care about you or your pet. Just the amount of money you give them. We also had an issue where they double charged us over $1,000 too and we had no idea for over a month. I found out at a separate ER visit from the nurse. So always check your statements! My dog had radiation treatment for his tumor at VCA and Dr. Treuil was truly incredible. He took the time to speak with me over the phone and the staff even reached out to me when they saw my dog went to the AVES ER for an eye ulcer. We were going to switch to VCA oncology since we heard great things about them, but unfortunately my dog passed before we could make the change. Please think twice before going to AVES because you will more than likely regret it.

From the second we arrived, Dr. Pearson and the entire care team--Megan, Ethan, and Nicole (the CEC)--were absolutely incredible. They provided top-tier medical care for our girl, but what I appreciated most was how they handled my wife and me. We were in a total state of panic, and they stayed calm, kept us informed, and treated us with so much empathy. It's rare to find a team that can balance high-level emergency medicine with such genuine bedside manner. Dr. Pearson is a total pro, and the nursing staff made us feel like our pup was their only priority. If you're in the Austin area and find yourself in a pet emergency, this is the only place I'd trust.

The staff worked patiently with me to avoid sedation with my cattle dog (if you know, you know). They were able to complete the necessary diagnostics and confirm that she did have an obstruction. Since we were there until around 8am, the team even set up a room with a futon so I could get some rest while staying with her, which meant a lot during such a stressful night. VEG first contacted my regular vet, who unfortunately wouldn't take her that morning, but they went above and beyond by proactively reaching out to another fantastic local vet who could perform the surgery (this was done to help reduce my costs, they were willing to perform the surgery). That support was incredibly appreciated and honestly something I would have struggled to coordinate on my own in the moment. Nova's surgery went well, and I brought her right back to VEG afterward for post-op care. I brought my laptop and they set me up a room so I could work from there, which greatly reduced the stress on her (and eased my mind). I truly believe this team played a huge role in her speedy recovery, as she' having healthy bowel movements just 3 days post-op and showing minimal discomfort. I am incredibly grateful for the care we received throughout the entire process. Without their diagnosis & quick actions, Nova may very well not be here today

I had just learned my dog, Bonnie, had a massive splenic mass (later found to weigh 8.5 pounds) that could rupture at any moment, yet another emergency clinic told me surgery wouldn't be possible for weeks. When I called VEG, Dr. Lisa answered and immediately said, "Come now." That moment alone meant everything! She recognized the urgency and helped me navigate an incredibly difficult decision with empathy and clarity. She is such a kind person! Dr. Nina, who performed Bonnie's surgery, was outstanding. When I met her, I immediately felt reassured because she had such a calm confidence. This was a very high risk surgery, but I felt like we were in the best place we could be. And I was right because surgery was a success! The nurses and techs - Noemy, Kelsey, and Gina - were also amazing. They stayed in constant communication and made me feel informed, included, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. I've never experienced veterinary care like this. VEG didn't just care for my dog. They cared for me and my whole family, and I will always be grateful.

The check in was so easy - I had called in advance and they texted me a check in link so when I got there that was all set. We were brought back immediately. The initial vet that took us in the open big room was so detailed with her part of the check in process, she even put us in a separate private room after learning my little man is reactive to other dogs. She was so kind and thorough. The final vet that saw us had such a caring energy - my little man never shook (like he normally does at the vet), and totally trusted her. She was thorough in her part of the exam and let us know all of our options. We left feeling relieved and well cared for. Not sure if this is typical, but we were really in and out - we were there maybe 30 min total (we went on a Monday a little after 9am, so not sure if that is typically a slower time?). It felt like a normal scheduled vet appointment. Even billing was awesome. I was emailed a receipt and requested an itemized one for our pet insurance and that was sent super fast. Yes, it was pricey ($190 for our visit) but emergency vets are always more expensive, so just expect that. Hopefully we do not have anymore emergency situations with our fur baby, but this is my local go-to should the need arise. Highly recommended!

I also appreciate how Courtney and Jamie never think it's a big deal that Benny is very vocal with them in the room (haha), and how they don't think I'm too nuts with all of my emails, calls, and questions. They all love on Benny, and it means the absolute world to me. They're angels, and Benny and I are so lucky to have all of you on our side. Grateful just doesn't even seem like enough. Thank you all so much for everything you do for Benny. I cannot recommend Heart of Texas (and getting your dog a specialist) enough. I have no doubt that everyone at Heart of Texas is awesome, but if you need an Internist for your pet, do not look any further. Dr. Hoh and her team are the best. Period. The staff were pleasant, but before even examining him, they presented a treatment plan with charges for radiology, CT, and even an MRI. This emergency hospital is closest to home so that's why we've tried it 3 times. That ended today though, we won't be back. I understand that for an emergency animal hospital acute issues are seen first. However, this location feels like the wait is forever when there's less than satisfactory communication from those working, especially from the front desk staff. Most people's pets are like family and when you have to bring them in for any type of emergency it's highly stressful for both owners and pet. I've made 3 visits here and had to wait for 30 minutes or more without being notified why and that is not okay. Feeling as if you've been forgotten while your pet is stressed, hurt or in pain is unacceptable. Sometimes all it takes is a check in to let people know they're still being attended to while waiting, and not forgotten. Today we arrived not knowing for sure if what my dog had vomited was blood or not (because we aren't trained professionals). We called before arriving to let them know we were on our way. There weren't any other pets waiting in the lobby when we arrived. The receptionist kindly checked us in, and it was quick because we had been there before. She brought paperwork over for us to verify info and sign. The first thing that I noticed is the age of my dog was wrong. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the prior two times that we had gone there, I brought it to their attention that the age of my dog was wrong. So that means they still hadn't fixed it since the last time we were there. A dog's age and weight are very important when it comes to administering any type of care. I let the receptionist know and she said she would fix. That was the last communication we had as we waited in the lobby for almost 40 minutes. People came out of the back with their animals. Other people arrived with their pets. Finally, because my dog was becoming very anxious, I decided to look up other emergency hospitals to see where else I could take her. I found one and we let the receptionist know we were leaving. They simply said okay, no questions asked and we walked out the door. I hope no other animal owners experience this type of service, lacking in compassion and care.
