Called for a reservation for my family next Friday for Father's Day. We are a large party of 15 but we have dined here before. I was told they no longer accommodate large parties unless you book the private rooms with a minimal 3000.00 food and beverage charge. That is ridiculous. This is a slightly skewed review as the restaurant has only been open for 6 weeks at the time of this writing. The bad: The steak. Whats the first thing you look for on a good steak? The crust. The top of the steak should have a slight bouncy brown plumpness interrupted with generous spaces of blackish slightly burned crust. This char provides a solid flavour foundation and mouth texture for the warm, juicy, and slight coppery flavor of blood at the center of a medium rare steak. Unfortunately, the rib eye I had at Meehan's had no such crust. It was soft and had the minimal smattering of black appeared to be from it sitting too long waiting for it to hit proper temp. It appeared to have been cooked in a pan that was not hot enough for too long and with too much butter. The average to above average: The calamari, although served in strips as thick as a steak and with a light flavorful batter, lost a sense of authenticity as they did not have the tentacles/head. The spinach side was generous and the flavor was as expected. The chocolate souffle was delicious with a perfectly warm center. The good: The scallops were cooked absolutely perfect; not tough or chewy and sized perfectly. The dish that stole the show was the smoked gouda mac and cheese. A creamy delicious gooey goodness that was unexpected. Potentially slightly runny but that issue was minimized by the taste. The black label Cabernet was full with little to no tanin (thank the Napa and Lodi grapes). The great: The service. Our waitress and sommelier were both attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back as there is no other place in Mansfield like it and we enjoy supporting local businesses. However, we hope the restaurant will mature well like a fine dry aged steak. read more

Meehan's is far and away the best fine dining restaurant around. We celebrated our 50th anniversary there last night and I can't sing their praises high enough! Everything from the food to the waitstaff was perfection. All 33 meals were prepared perfectly and delivered simultaneously, a feat I have no idea how they were able to accomplish but was so grateful they were. I don't know what to say about this gem in Mansfield other than to make a reservation and go!!! We met friends from Waxahachie and were greeted by friendly people and went to the bar. Had a nice glass or Chardonnay and a martini it couldn't have been better. Our friends arrived and we were seated in the main dinning room next to the beautiful wine room and across from the onyx back lit art. We started w a bottle of duck horn merlot and the seafood tower . Ice cold tower perfectly served! The owner of the restaurant -- Tony stopped by to say hi and told us a little about his restaurant-- first one he has owned. Following that we tried the filet the sea bass the meatballs and the Brussels sprouts. Everything was 5 stars! We finished with the chocolate soufflé and a nice glass of port. On advice I tried Meehan's Chophouse in Mansfield Friday evening, it exceeded expectations. I must say I was skeptical and ready for another dining disappointment in the area. I absolutely love everything about this restaurant. Upscale decor, professional well trained staff, excellent menu options. Wine list is good and growing (I hear). Meehan's white label cab ($10/glass $40/bottle) was tasty. Steaks, chops and seafood options are all I expect in fine dining right here in Mansfield, TX. Our server Amber was great!! Remember if you want to have nice options for dining close to home you have to support them with your patronage. If Meehan's Chophouse is successful others will come. We really had such high hopes after reading all the reviews and raves on Yelp and Facebook about Meehan's. So much so that we cancelled our reservations at Capital Grille, which is one of our favorite places, to try this out. I did tell my family that since it's been open only a short time things would not be perfect and we needed to be prepared for some hiccups. Once we were seated bread and water quickly arrived. We waited about 10 minutes when someone other than our waiter took our drink order. Bread is ok, no flavor, just thick white bread. It was lukewarm and could have used some more baking time, but no big deal. Waiter came by and took our appetizer order. We had the baked Brie and crab cakes. Both dishes were wonderful and we enjoyed them immensely. I could make a dinner out of ordering the Brie over and over! Placed our order for clam chowder, French onion soup and our entrees. French onion soup was great. The clam chowder was inedible due to the amount of salt in it and was the consistency of chicken broth. It's definitely not the rich, thick and creamy clam chowder type. Which would have been fine if the salt didn't overpower it. Entrees arrive. We had a pork chop, top sirloin and sea bass. No one appeared to ask if our meat was cooked properly and when I cut into the medium rare sirloin it was more like medium well to well done. Sadly, it looked like a steak from the Golden Corral buffet. Our sides of mac and cheese and brussel sprouts were no where in sight. From the time we ordered our soup and food our waiter never appeared. We had to ask someone else to get bar drink refills. We had to flag him down to show him the steak. We had to flag him down again to see if we could get our sides (at that point we were almost finished with the entrees). Now here is where I really see their lack of fine dining training. Instead of the waiter hustling to the kitchen to find out why are sides are still not here after 15 minutes of our entrees, he stops at a table of four and takes their order. No sense of urgency whatsoever. Sides finally appear. I'd recommend the brussel sprouts and mac and cheese. Both were delicious. Waiter never reappeared so we have to flag someone else down and ask for the check. Dessert was not an option at that point as we were just ready to leave. We receive our check from a manager who apologizes and offers us $100 gift card which we politely declined. It's not about the money, and we were not looking for something for free. We truly wanted a great experience and dinner as we had such high hopes for this new place and got neither. I think with time and some fine dining training of staff it can be a great place, but it's a place I am not willing to go back to and spend the money to find out. We will stick with our favorites in Ft Worth and Dallas. Needless to say we rebooked our Capital Grille reservations for next week. read more

First issue. We made a 9PM reservation. I actually called first, but we still didn't get seated until 9:30 PM. The front-of-the-house staff were young, probably high school. Some of their little high school friends came in and bantered at the front of the restaurant, which was interesting and a bit unprofessional. When I asked him how long the wait was he made excuses about the wait staff not doing their job. I've seen about 10 people leave, and we still haven't been seated. At this point, I'm basically hangry. We'll see what happens with the actual meal. After we were sat, we still waited another 10 minutes before anyone came to check on us or offer is water, etc. Very young staff. It would behoove them to pay a little more to hire more seasoned staff that know how to take care of their customers. . For appetizers we ordered calamari. OMG... it was Devine. The perfect consistency, wonderful flavor that melted in my mouth. I also orders the 10oz filet, Mac and cheese and Brussel spouts. The Brussels were perfect. They were sautéed in this wonderful sauce, and the flavor just exploded in your mouth. Yum! Unfortunately, my steak was over-cooked, but the sides and appetizers made up for it. My advice to the manager... clean up the front of the house and staff shortage issues. I've been to a few upscale establishments like this one, and this was a decent experience 3.5/5. The service was fantastic, although maybe a little too present as it was during lunch on a Thursday, so there was hardly anyone there - we prefer more time to ourselves when we dine. I had a lobster roll with fries (I'm a sucker for a lobster roll and there aren't many options around here) which was flavorful but not typical - I think I prefer the standard East coast lobster roll. I know you're saying "fries at a fine dining establishment?", but yes, it came with fries and they were good. I think they could improve on the fries that accompany the lobster roll by giving them a little more pizazz. My husband had the filet and lobster which he thoroughly enjoyed. We tried the cobbler for dessert, and it tasted more like bread pudding than cobbler, but it was good. The cheesecake was not good at all - I would not recommend. Cheesecake is my favorite dessert, but I didn't even finish this one. read more

Came here for my birthday 30 minutes before their full dinner menu was available. Waitress was nice, a little cold and standoffish. They offer no mocktails and I really wish restaurants would craft a mocktail or two. Not everyone drinks and I don't always want a lemonade or Shirley temple. We started with the baked Brie which was AMAZING!! We loved it. The Caesar salad was way like iced lettuce so it was wet and made it unappetizing. Next was the lunch shrimp scampi portion with a side of Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese, Mac and cheese was good. Brussels sprouts were covered in some milk and cheese sauce. They used way too much heavy sauce on things that didn't require it. Dessert was delicious!! The bread pudding and fruit with cream was out of this world. Stars (see key for details): 4.5 Pros: Food: steak was as good as you would get at any upscale steakhouse. If you're used to TX Roadhouse, it's better than theirs. If you're used to Saltgrass...there is no comparison, you will never want to eat at Saltgrass again. Brussel sprouts and Mac-n-cheese are awesome! Service: it is good and only going to get better as they settle into things. Cons: It is a little cramped. They could stand to pull some tables and increase the comfortability. They also need to install a set of double doors with an air filtration system leading out to the smoking area. We were sat next to the door and there was a steady stream of people going out and leaving the door open so we got our fill of the smoke...which I would have liked to avoid, especially with price point to eat there. General comments: It's nice to have a good steakhouse in Mansfield and we don't have to drive into Dallas or Ft. Worth. We look forward to going back, but will make a special request to sit in a different location. Key for star rating: 5 stars: Travel worthy - it's a dinning experience worth investing in. From the moment we walked in for a reservation at 7:15 we were treated like we were the most important customers in the building. A quick drink in the cigar lounge with the most comfortable barstool chairs you could imagine. Escorted back through the kitchen to our dining table. Ordered the calamari appetizer and the burrata and prosciutto and it was awesome. I ordered the 14oz Strip, wife ordered French onion soup and other couple had 10oz and 6oz filets. Okay I spent months hesitant to try this place and I have no idea why. Our family loves steakhouses but we would always drive to Dallas for them. A high end steakhouse in the Mansfield area just didn't seem legit.... But I'm here to tell you IT IS. Our family thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The service was great, and I really loved seeing the young servers, they looked high school age and were superb. The food was just as good (if not better) than some of our favorite steakhouses in Dallas, and this one was only 9 minutes from our home. The next time you are in the mood for a steak DO NOT drive to Dallas, come to Meehan's and the best part was that I made the reservation an hour before coming. I think this place is still underrated but that certainly won't last for long. The service and the food alone will keep this place in business. The drinks were also really good. We were really happy to find this place! It's a great choice for the location as there are really no other "fine dining" options without going into Dallas. Our server was awesome- he was friendly, had a great attitude, and knew the specials and the menu well! The menu itself had a variety of dishes to please everyone- steaks, seafood, etc. Great appetizers and side dishes also! Our biggest compliment was that the chef salts the food!! Nothing worse than getting an under-seasoned steak or side, happy to say that was not the case here. Don't skip on the desserts!! We were greeted politely and seated in our own private room for 8. We had a staff of 2 main servers and 2 assistant servers. We ordered drinks and servers suggested we order kids plates ahead of time while we enjoyed drinks, great suggestion. We ordered , not sure why but 3 medium steaks all were served rare. We were not asked to check our steaks when they were served, it seems chefs don't check in the kitchen any longer. Steaks were corrected, and the sides were perfect, mushrooms were the best I have tasted in quite some time. Servers returned with ice cream served to kids and after dinner drinks were spot on. Wow‼ this was such a beautiful intimate experience. My husband made reservations for me for my birthday with some friends. I was so surprised and impressed. The food was divine and the dessert did NOT disappoint. We had our own private room tucked away. The drinks were 10/10. My husband order the seafood tower. Our time at Meehan's yesterday was certainly an enjoyable and rewarding experience. As we arrived, the hostess, Flowers, generously gave of herself to insure we were comfortable and transferred us to our "Culinary Guide" for the evening, Amber. Amber gained our trust and respect with her knowledge of what the kitchen was prepared to dazzle us with. As we were perusing the wine list, the manager Scott personally greeted us and gave some background on the restaurant. Our food and wine choices were made, and we relaxed, happy with anticipation. Then, along came Noni. He and his team of server assistants provided excellent attention to our table. Very Nice place - maybe the nicest in Mansfield / Arlington area. Great food, I prefer the Lunch menu and I've had Dinner service and Lunch menu at the bar many times. Might have the Best Burger anywhere - most def the best Lobster Roll I've ever had and I have had dozens in Maine - where I thought I'd had the best till this one. Its a bit pricey but well worth it and the service is very good as well as the drink options. Highly Recommend. But maybe don't go.
