I'm truly mixed on my feelings, but I know that we did not come at the best time to truly rate this restaurant. It was the weekend before St. Paddy's and they were slammed. We got a table for a party of 5, and thankfully did not have to wait a long time. The service was fine and we did not have to wait for our server to come check on us between other tables. She was nice and on top of what we were ordering. My main issues: two of the drinks we ordered had flies/bugs in them. I'm talking 3-4 bugs in each drink. I'm not sure if they landed on the orange garnish that got put in our drinks or what, but it was not ideal. We swapped for another beverage and didn't have an issue. The other issue was the food itself. Thankfully everything came out really hot and pretty fast, but it was just super mediocre. The shepherd's pie was a bit lackluster and my husband said it was not seasoned/kind of tasteless. I'm sure it's just because of the busyness, but still disappointing. Every time I'm in town we go to Meehan's. We've been there when it's dead and when it's totally overflowing with people. It's never mattered how busy it is the service is always laid back and great. Amazing! My friend and I stopped in for dinner after an evening in old town. We started with half a dozen of the raw oysters as well as the oyster flight which we really enjoyed! We shared an order of fish and chips and they were cooked fresh and to perfection. A nice crisp on the fish and the chips were fresh cut and fried! We loved sitting at The Backyard at Meehan's for a late lunch and then returned later for live music and cocktails. Wait staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the food came out fast and hot. We ordered the Irish Cuban and Meehan's Chicken sandwiches. The chicken was well seasoned (blackened) and came with a hefty portion of peppered bacon and just the right amount of melted cheddar. The Cuban was tasty but needed a bit more meat. The hot cherry mustard was delicious and the perfect amount of pickles joined the party. Both came with Parmesan fries. THE GOOD: We got seated on an indoor veranda by the window, very nice view of the water & bridge. It's pretty quiet out here, even with 5 tables full we were able to talk without shouting. THE OKAY: We got the Irish chip, looking back, I'd probably skip it. Why? They're just oily soaked fries with a powdered cheese of some kind and parsley on them. We added some curry sauce after the fact but it didn't really make a difference. THE BEST: We ordered the Beggar's Purse. It came with colcannon in the middle & & a tiny amount of gravy. I feel like the fish was over cooked (wasnt as flaky as it should have been) and leaked oil. I loved the crispness of it though. The fries were tasty but I feel as if they got done before the fish and sat on the plate (cold and limp). I enjoyed the coleslaw as it wasn't too goopy with mayo. The sauce on the side was the bomb!! Our waiter was amazing (I forgot his name!). My husband got the catch of the day which was the swordfish. I got a burger, fries and side salad. My husband said the fish was amazing. He doesn't like onions and there was some in the sauce, but he didn't care because the food was really good! The burger was good, but my highlight was the fries. I coups have just eaten that! My bestie in Philly always mentioned her family had an Irish pub in Florida, and it wasn't until my coworkers and I were driving by on the way to the Alligator Farm that I remembered it was in Saint Augustine! Love the antique building and the history here as it reminds me of a proper pub back in the United Kingdom. Our waiter was also very friendly and offered recommendations when we sat down. They had both a mix of traditional Irish pub fare items, while having some seafood as it is located right near the road by the water. All the food ordered we loved, and the $3 mimosas on a Sunday hit the spot after a warm day seeing the Alligator Farm. If you like Irish pubs, this is a must see location when in Saint Augustine. Upon arrival, the hostess was completely disconnected, completely unfriendly and when I asked if she was doing ok she didn't even respond. My wife then tried to attempt the same kind of kind words with her with no response other than a look of distain. Then came the food. Mine was absolutely horrible. The corn beef was so tough that it was like a band of Leather. The reason we came here was for the music which actually was quite good. Our server was fine but when I told her it was the worst corn beef I've had my entire life she just brought the check. Having worked in service most of my life this was certainly not the way I would handle the situation. I would've gone to the manager and had it comped without even saying a word. We got a recommendation from our guide on a ghost pub crawl. He said they had excellent fish and chips. I can attest that the fish and chips were decent but the star of our table were the baked oysters. We had three orders because they were so good. The kids loved their chicken tenders. The shepherds pie was good. The beer was good. The service was AMAZING! Shayla was knowledgeable and attentive. She didnt just tell you if something was good or not, she described the textures, the flavors so you felt like you tasted a sample and knew if it was something you'd like or not. We came in for a bite on Fourth of July and we're seated right away in an almost empty bar area... but then we sat and sat and sat, until finally, we were able to get the attention of the host. We ordered two beers both the same and we brought two different beers... That's fine not a huge deal . We ordered the Ruben rolls., they came after a few minutes oddly plated with the meat side down...no side plates came or were offered . Great location and nice ambiance both inside and outside. The fish Reuben was ok but hard to find the fish. ($22 for lunch fish I would except something bigger than half the bread size). The regular Reuben seemed to have a decent amount of meat but very dry. The waiter did bring more sauce and that helped. Pricing is a bit high for the quality but everything is pretty high in that area. They were poured well - smooth, rich, creamy and very tasty. I ordered the shepherd's pie. Hubby ordered the fish & chips. Both were excellent. The meat filling in the shepherd's pie was seasoned well and topped with creamy whipped potatoes. The crisp on top of the potatoes was absolutely perfect and added nice texture. The fish was flaky, batter was crispy and not too thick. The hand-cut chips were salted well and so good! The service was friendly and attentive. Came here for New Year's eve dinner. The place was packed, our server was incredibly slammed, but still extremely attentive to us. For dinner I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta, but unfortunately the kitchen/server forgot to bring it so I had to wait an additional 15 minutes to eat, which was fine however it still came out extremely cold and lack flavor. I did however try my husband's burger that was delicious! Juicy flavorful and huge! I got a kids cheeseburger for my son that was a decent size and just as good as my husband's. They have chips, which are french fries, which I feel should be addressed because some people don't know the difference and we thought we were getting kettle chips (typical in Irish pubs!). We had a really great lunch here! The restaurant was able to accomodate our large group at 3 pm for a late lunch. I didn't order a drink here, but everyone was happy with their beers and cocktails. I ordered a fish sandwich after an afternoon of day drinking, and wow it hit the spot! So good! I have had their oysters at an event before, and would've ordered those if I was there for dinner or had someone to share them with. I got the Clare Island Catch Blackened: Fresh Fish Over Sliced Tomato and Zesty Slaw, Topped with Key Lime Aioli on a Toasted Brioche Bun with the best french fries. It was $17 and huge. Avoid being served by "SARAH" We are a family of six and were served by a waitress named Sarah, who provided the poorest service we have experienced in San Agustín--especially disappointing on Christmas Day. She was rude, inattentive, and unprofessional throughout our visit. She refused to provide the Wi-Fi password and rushed us repeatedly during the meal. We were also informed that paying by card includes an additional $10 service fee, separate from the tip. We ultimately chose to pay in cash to avoid this charge. As we were leaving, despite having tipped 20%, she reacted angrily and used inappropriate language saying "SHIT" and street lenguaje infront my mom and dad and family. Not acceptable. When I later asked the hostess for her name, she approached me aggressively, clearly looking for confrontation. This level of behavior is unacceptable in customer service. Fast becoming my favorite casual restaurant in St Augustine! Ambiance is a traditional Irish-like pub. We like sitting upstairs on the balcony overlooking the water. The waitstaff is experienced, responsive, accommodating, and very friendly. We especially liked Patrick and Ryan as servers. The menu has plenty of choices including traditional Irish faire. We've had the fried oyster dinner, Fish & Chips, Corned Beef Reuben (wow!), and Salmon Dinner. All food was well presented, hot, and timely. Everything was delicious. The back yard bar is terrible, I went to go as a 22 year old, and they do not let anyone in under 23. My fiancé and I tip well, but the bouncer checking ID's was rude for no reason at all.
