This review genuinely makes me sad to write. A few years ago, we stumbled upon Surfside Kitchen while visiting St. Augustine, and it completely blew us away. It wasn't just brunch; it was an experience. The gorgeous presentation, homemade strawberry butter, warm berry compote, flavorful breakfast potatoes with peppers and onions, and all the little details made it one of those places you can't stop talking about. It left such an impression on us that years later, when planning another trip to St. Augustine, we specifically made sure Surfside Kitchen was on the itinerary. We were so excited to come back. Unfortunately, this visit was nothing like the one we remembered. The food wasn't bad, but it lacked everything that made Surfside special. The beautiful presentation was gone, the berry compote and strawberry butter had disappeared, the potatoes were plain, and the meal just felt... ordinary. The attention to detail and flavor that made this place stand out simply wasn't there. The highlight of our visit was our waitress Tiana, who was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. She was kind, attentive, and when we asked what had changed, she explained that the restaurant is under new ownership. That made everything make sense. This isn't written out of anger; it's disappointment. We came back because we remembered how special this place was, and we wanted to experience that again. Sadly, it feels like the Surfside Kitchen we fell in love with no longer exists. I truly wish the new owners the best, but I also hope they realize that people weren't just coming for chicken and waffles; they were coming for an experience. We enjoyed the music. We ordered a 14 inch meat pizza, dry and wet lemon pepper wings and fries. The hot lemon pepper could have had a little more sauce. It was spicy hot. I dove into the Brunch Platter and tried to swap the scrambled eggs for over-easy, but substitutions aren't allowed. Happily, the fluffy scrambled eggs turned out to be some of the best I've ever had--creamy, well-seasoned, and just right. They had a family style Brunch which we ordered the egg with Brie. and all the fixins. Inside is small and loud outside was cool and comfy, 20 minutesr went by One meal came out and waited a while for the other meals. They accidentally brought us someone else's meal... so we waited for our food. All was big and very sharable family style eating. Food was good. No veering from the menu as they were not able to make the adjustments in the kitchen. Pancakes came out incorrect the first time but tasty when they came out the second time correctly. Avocado was a $3 upcharge and probably not worth it but the tuna was outstanding. It was very fresh and it was a big portion. (Two of us shared it). It came with rice and a carrot salad. Not amazing but not terrible. We started with mozzarella sticks. The presentation was great but I bit into air. I got no cheese in my mozzarella stick!! Several mozzarella sticks had no cheese or the cheese on the outside. Next the pizza. It was good, nothing to right home about but decent. We heard great things about the sliders but they were outside so we tried the tacos. They were decent. Next we had wings, they were okay. Sauce was tasty and portion size was good. Went on a wknd morning for brunch. Sat outside since we were traveling with our 12lb Maltipoo. We were immediately seated as a party of 4. Our server was great! Brunch was delicious. We split a little bit of everything ordered. The waffles are more on the savory side, the chicken had good flavor, they only offer scrambled eggs on what we ordered but they were cooked PERFECT (if you only do 1 thing, do it well!). What a cute place! The indoor portion of the restaurant is a little loud for good conversation- next time I think I would be better suited sitting outside. Doesn't lessen my good experience - just a note! The service was incredible overall. The food and drinks did take a little long but I think that was no fault of the waitstaff. They seemed extremely understaffed the day we went, but they worked it well! Definitely need more staff at least on the weekends! We tried a couple different boards and what a fun way to do brunch! Our waitress made some wonderful suggestions and everything I tried was awesome. Chicken and waffles were my favorite part! The croissants were not for me - they're sliced in half and seem almost grilled? Maybe just extra toasted in a griddle. Not sure but not my favorite. We also got a mimosa tower and another very fun item. We got 3 different juice options with it and it was such a great selection. One person tried a Bloody Mary which I sampled and it was *chefs kiss*. It was a good amount of food for the cost (except for the coffee - bit pricey for just a plain old cup of coffee). Tina, Tom, John and I were immediately brought out waters by Kat. She took our drink orders and left us to browse the menu for a few minutes. Tina orders the 10" Veggie Paradise. I ordered the Wagyu Sliders. Three Australian Wagyu beef Pattie's, topped with lettuce, tomato, white American cheese & tangy pickle pickles and onions. I got it without the Brioche Bun. The guys had some awesomely good seasoned fries. I ate my fair share too. Everything came out hot and crispy. The wait time was minimal. We talked, laughed and joked while we waiting. We would never eat here again. I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and received a bowl of brown lettuce (more than 90%). Initially, I was picking out all the bad leaves and suddenly there was barely any salad left. I showed the server who went and got me a new bowl of salad (fresh) however she didn't bring it to me with the croutons or grilled chicken or the dressing, thereby me having to pick out the chicken pieces and croutons to put in my new bowl of salad she brought me. Also had to ask for new dressing as I had already poured it on the bad salad. This was absolutely ridiculous ! When I told her, she had such a bad attitude with me and asked me what did I want to make it better. She wasn't nice about it at all. She seemed annoyed that I asked her why they would do this. I explained that I had to pick out all of my toppings and chicken pieces and ended up having to leave most of it. We don't understand how this was served this way and then why didn't they remake the salad (since it was their error for serving it to me that way ). She took back the entire first salad so it's not like anything was really eaten from it. Is this the way this restaurant does business? I let the hotel we are staying at know as well so they do not recommend them to people staying with them. We felt this situation was completely unacceptable. What an amazing find! Surfside Kitchen converted from a pizza place in the Vilano Publix shopping center in October of last year. And as a beachside pizza place, it was fine, but the new concept is so fun. We came for Sunday brunch and snagged a table outside, since we had come from kayaking. Please note that Surfside doesn't open until 11, but the server let us snag a seat early. I had already check out the menu and was in it for the brunch boards. My husband agreed, and so we were already prepared for our meal experience. First, drinks. I got a mermaid mimosa with pineapple juice, bubbles, and blue curaçao, while he ordered a poinsettia. Both drinks came in lovely glasses, and mine had the benefit of a little floating goldfish. Super cute. I also ordered a whipped coffee. I never see dalgona coffee on menus, and so this was a spectacular treat: thick, luscious espresso, served over ice and milk and garnished with coffee beans. Yum. We decided on the chicken and waffles board, and it was so cute for sharing. It came with four or five tenders, waffles, fruit, strawberry compound butter with chunks of berries, a blueberry compote/syrup (also loaded with berries) and maple syrup. In addition, we got a side of scrambled eggs. The presentation was thoughtful and beautiful and portions were perfect for sharing (two or three people would have had enough to eat, especially with the side of eggs). Came here because we wanted to try something new on the weekend. Surfside is located next to Publix in Vilano Beach. There is plenty of parking available. Prior to going inside, we noticed that had a larger outdoor patio available. Due to the heat, we wanted to sit inside. When we got inside, I was a bit surprised by how tight it was. Not a ton of tables, nor was the bar area huge. First things first, I'm giving our server (I can't remember her name,but she was from NYC and was super attentive and chipper) a five out of five for service. When I looked at their menu online, I noticed that they had pina coladas, so that's what I decided to order. My sister also got a pina colada and my husband got a vodka lemonade. You'll notice there aren't prices on the menu for mixed drinks, so beware. Our drinks came out pretty quickly and when I received my pina colada, I was a bit disappointed. It seemed kind of watery at the bottom (I did mix it up) and it didn't taste like there was any alcohol in it. It wasn't my favorite, and I wouldn't order it again. Next we opted to try their nachos. We didn't get an protein. They came out pretty quickly. I will say I enjoyed the type of tortilla chips they used. The not so great was the nachos were pretty soupy. For the price, I wasn't impressed. When it came time for dinner, we ordered the kids meals first. One got a quesadilla with fries, one got cheesy bread, and one got a small cheese pizza. I will say the kids cheese pizza was on the larger side. My son really liked the cheesy bread and his cousin liked the pizza. I shared a 10 inch pizza with my sister, we got the Hawaiian, my husband got the hamburger sliders, and someone else got the fish tacos. The good, my brother in law liked his tacos and felt like they were a large portion. The not so good, the pizza was average. There weren't a ton of pizza toppings. Found this restaurant across the street from the Hyatt hotel so it was within walking distance. We went on a Sunday morning around 11am, they have a couple of tables available so sitting was fast. Our waiter was nice but was super busy, so our food and drinks took longer than expected, but it was worth it, the food it's delish. The plates are big enough to share so don't order too much as one plate is enough for 2 people. The restaurant is small but had plenty of tables inside and outside. This is place is close to the Vilano pier and about one block from vilano beach. two of us had a margarita pizza one had wings garlic parm and one had the wagu sliders with truffle fries.
