Not really a fan of Meet Fresh. The desserts aren't really sweet enough for me. On Saturday night at 7:30 pm there was a long line. People were ordering at kiosk and counter but still slow. Plenty of tables. There was a slip hazard with water on floor. I got the chocolate waffle and it was fine. Nothing wrong with it just kind of plain.

I've honestly lost count of how many times I've been here. It's always lively, but the dine-in area is spacious, so I can usually relax without having to wait for a seat. Whenever I'm craving Chinese desserts, I love how many options they have. Since there are so many great restaurants nearby, I often stop by here after dinner for dessert. One of the best parts is that you can customize your dessert with your favorite toppings and make it exactly how you like. You can place your order using the self-order machines, but if you're unsure, there's also a staffed register. The staff are always kind and helpful, which makes the experience even better.

A large space to hangout, but food was subpar. I was excited to get the egg waffle (been missing egg waffle from Hong Kong), but once it was ready, not only did it taste stale but it wasn't warm and crispy. If you had an air fryer or toaster oven, it would have been easy to warm this up. I just don't understand what took so long for a 30 minute wait time on food & drinks. Drinks were obviously hard to mess up on and easiest to prepare. Tofu pudding was okay on taste, but bad on presentation. Instead of the traditional larger pieces of tofu, it's mashed up into smaller pieces. I'm glad it was served warm, but I was disappointed w/ the execution. Not horrible, but it wasn't great either. A lot of improvements needed on quality/taste/presentation for me to come back for dessert here.

I usually love Meet Fresh locations due to the cafe seating and fun desserts we can try but this location did not compare well with other locations I've visited. I've been to this location 3 times so this is a review of my overall impression of the San Mateo Meet Fresh. The times I've come, there is never a cashier taking orders; everything is on a single kiosk. This makes the wait very long to even order because each party takes awhile to key in their orders (+ if they want to customize their bowls). Got a Hot Red Bean Signature Soup with added almond pudding. Almond pudding is always 10/10 imo. I knew the pudding comes cold and I keyed it in as a side order (not wanting it directly in the soup) but when we picked it up, it was floating in the soup...... We picked it up as soon as our number was called and the "hot" soup was cold due to the almond pudding. The other time my party got a signature shaved ice but the ice had no flavor at all compared to other locations that had a creamy taste to the ice. We saw multiple trays at the tray disposal with heaps of untouched shaved ice probably due to this reason. I still like the amount of seating space and the tables are big enough to study at/play games as well. But def not as great quality of food as the other locations.

    * foodie DEETS here * - 03.22.25's visit, review #211 Friend wanted tea instead of more alkie after din nearby. Thought it'd be a good idea since I've had lil cravings for boba lately from not having any in forever. We actually sat down at another spot a couple stores down, but he switched to check it out here instead. I've tried the chain in the South Bay b4 & at-home frozen taro balls. T L ; D R . . . (sarcasm for MIA) uh, app says they don't even have it. - wanted Almond Tofu Pudding seen on posted menu(s), but non-existent in kiosk. completely none in app incl ones w/ beans - would try other soups, but most have beans, which I hate Might try if ever coming back: - Iced Thai Milk Tea Tofu Pudding, 10.25 - Crystal Mochi Milk Shaved Ice, but no thx to Red Bean personally | n/a at this locay anywaz - Black Sugar Milky Shaved Ice if they'd sub caramel pudding for almond & again, skip beans S E R V I C E . . . Located in San Mateo Downtown, parking is plentiful but availability is limited. Noise level is loud. There was also a line to order at the self serve kiosk. Tofu pudding (5/5): portions are humongous. Toppings were generous. Flavor wasn't too sweet. The rice balls had a good balance of soft and firm making them quite chewy. Tap to pay is accepted. Service takes a while but the food is so yummy and generous. Overall, Meet Fresh is a good Asian dessert place.

    Icy Grass Jelly Signature
    Jackson C.

Meet Fresh offers a variety of Asian dessert dishes Tofu Pudding, Grass Jelly, Hot Red Bean Soup, etc. There are a number of locations across the Bay Area and the location in San Mateo is average at best compared to some of the other locations I've been to. For example, I think the location located at Cupertino is more superior. First off, the place is often empty. Not the best vibe for a hangout place. You start by using one of the self service kiosk to order. Second, the quality of the desserts is mediocre. Today, we ordered the signature cold grass jelly. You get some chewy mochi balls mixed with grass jelly and a sweet syrup. While the dessert tasted ok, it did not give me the impression desiring more.

    Amy Z.

Love their desserts here especially on a hot and sunny day. I always get the signature brown sugar shaved ice and the icy grass jelly signature, so refreshing. Love their taro and sweet potato balls, nice and chewy. Friendly staff and it is a nice place to sit and relax on you day off

    Anna N.

Love getting Meet Fresh after dinner! Got two shaved ice and a hot Jasmine green tea. The shaved ice can definitely be shared with 4 people, it comes with soooo much toppings. Service is always quick here but ordering on the kiosk took awhile. They have 2 but one didn't work so it took awhile before it was our turn.

My experience with this location's Meet Fresh was decent. I understand the complaints about the self-service kiosk and I agree; it is slightly unclear on how to order, and there was lack of confidence on whether my friend and I would get our orders or not. The place was around 60% full on a weekday night, and this is one of the smaller locations I have been to. We ordered their Herbal Tea with less sugar and the Matcha Red Bean egg puff waffle. We didn't hear our order number being called, and we realized that it was actually ready, with our order being in a different spot when we came to check. The Herbal Tea lived up to my expectations. I wish that the egg puff waffle was a bit more crispy, but I am unsure how long our order was waiting before we received it, and the red bean might have made it harder to get the usual crispy taste we were looking for.

Meet Fresh is a chain that's been around for a while, and I think that means fewer people write reviews unless they were dissatisfied with what they got We came to this Meet Fresh after dinner and had the Mochi shaved ice and Osmanthus Milk shaved ice. It had been quite a while since I had Meet Fresh and I'm glad to report the quality is still quite good. Also grateful to the staff as we stayed right up to closing time and they did not rush us or push us to leave!

    Pearl R.

I feel like this place is underrated! I always have a good experience here. The desserts and drink options are always solid and they do give a lot for the price. The service is pretty fast here and the store is pretty big so there are many tables where you can come with your friends or family to sit and eat here. Also, there are to-go options too

    Melinda H.

We got lunch in the area and decided to try this meet fresh spot afterwards. We got the signature grass jelly dessert and it was very yummy. Prices are standard, about $12 for this dish. We've been to multiple meet fresh locations and this one is prompt and clean. Servers are friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend!

The middle of the store has a nice selection of Hawaiian snacks to browse, while the refrigerator along the opposite wall is stocked with drinks and a few side dishes, including kimchi, available for purchase. On this visit, we ordered the Shoyu Ahi Bowl with greens, the Hawaiian Style Ahi Bowl with greens, and the Kalua Pork & Cabbage plate. The Kalua Pork & Cabbage was the standout. It came with macaroni salad and rice, the portion was generous, the pork was tender, and the cabbage was soft, well-seasoned, and tasty. The ahi itself had a great texture and tasted fresh. However, both the Shoyu Ahi and Hawaiian Style Ahi bowls were already well-marinated, and the greens were dressed with the same sweet soy based sauce. The combination made the bowls a bit too salty and sauce heavy, which overpowered the natural flavor of the fish. By the time we finished our bowls, we found ourselves reaching for coconut water to help balance the saltiness. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. The restaurant was clean, the staff was efficient, and the Kalua Pork & Cabbage was definitely worth ordering. I just wish the ahi bowls had a lighter touch with the sauce so the freshness of the fish could really shine. We'd be happy to come back and try some of the other menu items. :)

Presumably, never walking down their block of the Main St. alley had a lot to do with it, but who knows how much longer it would've taken if not for my friends suggesting we come here for dinner. Which is kind of ironic, considering the name of this place! While nothing about the outside of Dessert Republic really stands out, the decor inside is great. It may not be all that flashy nor have much of an IG aesthetic, but I like how it has a Hong Kong/Chinatown alley sort of look to it. As for the menu, true to their name, there's no shortage of desserts to choose from, whether it be hot desserts, like glutinous rice balls, sweet tofu, or egg pudding, cold desserts, like mixed fruits, sago, or ice cream sundaes, egg puffs, and crepes. In addition, they also have a bunch of regular food options, from snacks and dim sum items, to rice plates, noodle soups, and even lomo saltado. -- (#A03) POPCORN CHICKEN Not terrible, but not popcorn chicken either. Rather, this felt more like the salt & pepper porkchop dishes I've had in the past - the batter was thick, the chicken was unmarinated, it was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it was topped with cut peppers instead of crispy basil. -- (#S01) BRAISED BRISKET & WONTON NOODLE SOUP Overall, this was a mixed bag. On the plus side, the bowl was decently loaded, the wontons were plump, and it had chunks of beef tendon, which were tender. On the other, while the noodles were fine, the veggies were way overcooked and the beef was chewy. -- (#M08) SUPER STRAWBERRY - Strawberry Freeze, Aloe Jelly, and Strawberries Topped with Strawberry Ice Cream Undoubtedly, this had a lot of strawberry flavor to it. Even though the strawberry freeze didn't do a ton for me, especially as it melted, I liked how well the aloe jelly, strawberries, and ice cream complemented each other. As far as service goes, I've seen some folks mention running into issues, but I've actually found it to be entirely unremarkable, for better or worse. Each time I've been here, the workers haven't really gone beyond the basics (take orders, bring out dishes, take care of checks, etc.), but I never really expect anything more than that either. Still, they do seem to be relatively friendly and get orders out decently fast, which certainly counts for something. Since I've clearly only had a small handful of what their menu has to offer, there's the distinct possibility (probability?) that I haven't had the best of what Dessert Republic has to offer. However, based on what I've ordered and my friends' egg puffs and sweet tofu that I've tried (both were fine), the desserts here definitely seem to be the safer bet overall. Which is handy since they stay open so late, especially on Friday and Saturday nights (until 1am).
