I believe the San Mateo Teaspoon location was the first one to open in the Bay Area. It is located in a prime location on 3rd Ave in Downtown San Mateo. The shop is small and has minimal seating but is more of a takeout spot. I ordered ahead on the Teaspoon app on a weekday after dinner and was quoted a 25 minute wait. When I arrived the shop close to the promised time it was completely empty and a single worker was moving in the kitchen area without watching the front. After a few minutes, the worker still didn't come out and there was no bell at the counter to ask for assistance so I yelled out a few times and he still didn't come out. He finally came out a couple minutes later and didn't acknowledge me until I said "excuse me" for the third time, only to tell me my drink was not ready yet. He then started making my drink and I got it five minutes later. I ordered the seasonal Summer Stardust which is said to be a cotton candy-inspired smoothie with coconut, vanilla, and blue raspberry, blended with strawberry foam and Cosmic Burst topping. The ads for this drink were appealing with its unique bright blue and pink combination but my drink was a dull pink and white. I asked if the drink provided to me was the Summer Stardust because I didn't see any blue and the worker said yes and that "syrups make different shades of blue" in a snappy tone. The drink itself was okay and did somewhat resemble cotton candy but mostly tasted like sugar and the Cosmic Burst topping reminded me of pop rocks candy. I haven't shopped from this Teaspoon location for a while but I didn't expect its customer service to be this bad. The drink itself was also not memorable and overall the menu prices are higher than many of its competitors nearby. After this experience I know I will not be returning. read more

Driving around San Mateo on the evening of March 20, 2022, we saw this Teaspoon shoppe, so we decided to quickly stop in to pick up some milk teas for to-go. After Kuya Ods parked in a spot right by the front entrance, I walked in shortly after 9:35 PM to a fairly busy store. There were a few people seated inside and a couple of people in line to place their orders at the front counter. The wait wasn't long to get to the counter. I ordered two drinks for take-out; a CREAMY JASMINE topped with Almond Pudding and a CLASSIC THAI TEA with Grass Jelly topping. Both beverages were perfectly creamy and delicious. I like all of their drinks, in any mix you wish - usually the matcha royale or the silky mango one, or the matcha royale mango if I can't decide - but there's no end to the combinations that you can make - part of the fun is having no idea what I want until I get there - I try to be ready by the time I get to the front of the line - if it involves milk, I get oat milk, if I can ask for less sweet, I do - as otherwise they can be too sweet. I got no boba or extra add-ins in the drinks so that I could refrigerate and drink later on if needed. I was mainly getting the drinks for my boyfriend, his mom & dad, and myself. They were coming back from a Canada trip and I was picking them up from SFO. Place was clean and open decorating and places to sit inside. If you find a 25min free parking spot outside you're golden to run in and pick up your order. I ordered Togo, less ice, and 70% sugar for all drinks that allowed adjustments. A friend and I were walking through downtown San Mateo and came across Teaspoon. He's a boba aficionado and we decided to give the place a try. The electronic ordering system was broken, but the girl behind the counter was on top of things. She was super friendly and very efficient, easily doing the job of two people. The menu is huge (IMO), with sweet and savory choices. I'm not a fan of sugar and was glad for the not so sweet options. You can also individually adjust the sugar in each drink. They ask if you want 0%, 25%, 50% or all out OMG THIS IS SWEET! I opted for 25% in the White Crystal and probably would go for 50% next time. The drink itself was delicious and the boba balls perfectly chewy. This was only my second boba experience, but I'm looking forward to exploring more boba places. The silky mango was so delicious. Boba was chewy and the mix between the two was just perfect. Will definitely come again!

Using the in-store kiosk, we ordered a Strawberry Sangria with Strawberry Popping Boba ($8.20) and a Dirty Ube, which is a coffee based drink. I added honey boba to the Dirty Ube drink ($7.70) out of habit since this is a boba shop, but I think the drink would have been better (and cheaper) without it. There are some seats and tables inside to sit and chat while you wait for your drinks. The drinks were ready within 10 minutes and tasted as expected. The main reason why I would give this specific Teaspoon location 4 stars is because of the steep $1.20 price per topping. We were shocked to see this price as it is higher than what I've seen at other Bay Area boba shops and the Teaspoon location in Berkeley offers toppings for $0.75 each. A pro of this Teaspoon location is its convenient location in downtown San Mateo near other restaurants and Central Park. After grabbing our drinks, we took a walk around the area and visited Central Park. Heads up, drinks aren't allowed at the Tea Garden in Central Park so consider waiting to grab drinks until after your visit! read more

I don't knows if this is a scam, but whoever wrote the Mother's Day promo should really get it together. I received this message in my yelp messages as well so I was convinced I was awarded a free drink. I feel pretty betrayed and lied to. I have been contemplating whether or not I would visit this location again cuz of this experience because there was a huge miscommunication when I went to the store to claim this offer.
