If you're a vegetarian or vegan in Vancouver this is about as good as it gets for hearty comfort food. This isn't your higher end Veggie/Vegan affair - where it's all about creating not replacing - this is most certainly about replacements for your meaty favourites, whether you've ditched eating animal corpses entirely or are just on a mammal cleanse. That means burgers, bowls, wings etc, all sans a previous pulse. One absolute must are the Chiggin Thingys. Obvs, the wings replacement. Get me a bucket of these and a beer and I'm one happy carnivore aimlessly chomping down on tofu that's so well disguised it has you second guessing that this whole menu is an elaborate joke by Ron Swanson to trick Hippy Vegans. Great food, great staff, great Thingys. Be prepared for a small wait for a table (PS check out the VCR/TV combo playing 80s faves behind the bar). read more

This is probably one of my favorite vegan restaurants. After trying meet I can honestly say that this isn't your typical vegan restaurants. They offer true comfort food that can appeal to even the most macho meat eaters. I highly recommend the "angry burger" it comes with a burger, salad, and fries. I heard about Meet on Main when I was asking around for some awesome Gluten free places in the city that would be perfect for a gastropub/poutine loving/comfort food eater. This place pretty much nailed that on the head. They have so many delicious, indulgent items on the menu. Their selection of burgers and fries are impressive indeed. My GF partner (comfort food connoisseur) had the Angry Burg and really digged the flavour/kick it had. I (an extreme-green veggie lovin' machine) loved that they offered some healthier options like the stir-fry bowls, hummus, and salads. The Macro bowl was definitely a good choice, with a huge thumbs up to the cashew gravy! Will 100% be back to try more of their menu (like the Nacho Fries and Mac n Cheese!) read more

I gave this place a second chance since I appreciated where they were going with this. This time I brought my best friend who is vegan/gluten free so that I could have a more professional pallet opinion. I did the mac and cheese again. Last time it was a bitter after taste blunder. This time it was really good. There was a more prominent mustard note which made this very addicting to eat. My best friend was also addicted. The stroganoff dish was also amazing. Both my best friend and I shared each bowl among each other. Service was friendly and prompt like last time. Prices of course are decent with the meal. We had dessert and felt that the berry crumble was a little dry still. Perhaps a little bit of coconut oil? Either way it was a good finish to the meal. Now that I know that their mac and cheese is as addicting as everyone says it is, I am going to chalk up my previous experience as a bad day in the kitchen. 10 or 15 years ago i would have been ALL OVER this place. I was a veg-head for 12 years...but it's been awhile. admittedly we popped in here only because Sawasdee had a 30min wait. i also thought it was a nice choice for my visitor from out of town cause she's mainly vegetarian. first off the service was great. seated quickly, received water, got some drinks, ordered an appi all within 5 min. then we took a bit more time figuring out the rest of the meal but our server was always around, super pleasant and ready to serve. we ordered the cauliflower that looked like large sweet and sour balls. they were good, pretty heavy in coating and flavour though. so basically...you can't taste cauliflower. then we shared the ceasar with bbq chiggin. it was ok. the chiggin was also ok. I don't really get calling toasted coconut "coconut bacon" but whatever floats your boat. we also got the corn fritters...very little corn but a nice crunchy crust on the ball. overall, i just feel like actual produce/product isn't highlighted. i don't really remember tasting vegetables! but when you normally have some meat on your plate i guess you don't have to disguise veg as much. it's definitely a comfort-food type of place (VERY large bowls of fries with stuff on top) so if that's your goal, you will be well served. for me...it just makes me feel bloated. read more

Stumbleupon Meet on Main on a early Saturday night and went in because the menu sounded good, the prices were reasonable and it was packed! Got the Sweet Chilli Cauliflower. So GOOD! If you only try one thing its these little beauties. 10/10. a must try. Would definitely recommend. I also tried the "The Burger" I've had a lot of veggie burgers in my time and can safely say that this burger was very meh. if you are going to make a veggie burger it better be good and this was just so boring. The actually patty had a weird flavour-it didn't taste like it was smoked. The bun was so plain. the chips were greasy. If I want a burger next time I'm going to get the portobello burger. Visited this place thinking it was a cool looking burger place, which it was. What we didn't realize until moments before our food arrived was this was a vegan establishment! To our surprise, the food was pretty great! I visited meet with my fiancé for a lunch/dinner meal in the middle of the afternoon on my 30th birthday. I had scouted this place out as a good place to go after watching 7 innings of Vancouver Canadians baseball. We were one of only a few people seated around 3pm. When we ordered I was carded for ordering a beer and the server noticed it was my birthday. Even though dates are listed backwards in US driver licenses like mine. After that, the service she provided my fiancé and I was absolutely superb. She made us feel welcome and provided great tips on what to order and how to best enjoy a mid-day happy hour meal at meet. The food was fantastic, but the service was even better. We especially loved the corn fritters, good enough for anyone with a southern palate! I am giving meat on main a one start today because of their take out portion. I love taking my vegetarian/ vegan friends to this restaurant because it is "comfort food" therefore you should leave with a satisfied belly. HOWEVER that is not the case when you get take out. Omg, my take out today was really depressing. I had ordered the lovely bowl, which I have ordered in the past at the restaurant. There was legit 1/3 cup of brown rice on the bottom of my take out box. Did it taste good, yes. Did it fill me up, no! Would I order takeout again from meat on main, no! Do not know if I would keep bringing my veggie friends here to, seams like a rip off to pay $13 for a rice bowl and get 1/3 cup of rice. Should have gone to a thai restaurant and gotten a rice bowl from there. Anyways, I did call back and talk to the guy that took my order. He said that they measure out all their portions and there should be a "ice cream scoop" worth of rice. That still seems ridiculous for $13. Lesson learned. read more

I've been here a a couple of times now and no joke I didn't even know it was a vegetarian restaurant even after having a burger! I was completely shocked when I found out. The fries here are amazing and the decor is awesome (Star Wars fans will appreciate it!). They seem to be pretty busy so sometimes there is a wait for tables. The only reason I knocked a star off is for service. I was back there with my husband last night and he ordered a beer and it never came, just one water was put down for me. The waiter clearly saw it, so I guess, this is acceptable or hipster casual/laid back (don't complain). 2) So yes, service...was slooooow, slow like molasses man! It took forever to get another drink, it took forever to get anything. We went on a Friday night and it was busy (I overheard the hostess saying it was busier than usual b/c of some articles they had been in) but still. It also took forever to get a seat. Luckily I snagged a seat at the bar, so It was cool. You seriously have to get here at 5pm if you want to get a seat and not wait 30 mins. 3) The staff was very friendly and I really liked the cool ambiance. I got someone new who didn't know much about the food, so next time I would suggest not to put someone out there on Friday night that can't answer questions about the unique food offerings. Although it wasn't the greatest experience, it wasn't the worst. I would go back and give this place another shot, with some different food. Soo nice to be able to look at a menu and feel like I have choices! Many choices! I am gluten/dairy/egg free (but eat meat) and there was a ton of stuff to choose from! My friend and I shared nacho fries, caesar salad with chiggin things, mac & cheese, and the cauliflower appie. Ooops we ordered way to much food, and each had enough leftover for lunch. Back to the food. I really enjoyed everything. The nacho fries were delish, mmm cheesy sauce. I really loved the caesar because the fake caesar dressing tasted like the real thing! The chiggins on the salad were good too, maybe a bit weird since I do like to eat real chicken, but still they did taste good. The mac & cheese was super good too, creamy and pretty balanced (I consider myself a vegan mac & cheese expert as I can whip up a mean one). Areas of improvement: I felt that the cauliflower inside the batter really should have been soft, not raw/crunchy, it would have made the dish better. Usually if something is battered, the filling is not raw. So that made me dislike the dish. Maybe it is meant to be soft and mine was just not cooked long enough??? If that is the case, I would order it again if I knew it would be squishy inside. Also, we ordered this chocolate ganache at the end that came with a coconut crust, and it was SO hard, I couldn't break into the crust. I chiseled away at it with my downward pointed knife, hoping to break through, and it was a total challenge. When I finally got through with my knife it would smash down loud onto the plate. Maybe it just came out of the fridge? It was super awkward to eat and my friend gave up (but I kept chiseling, gimme that crust!) Second impression, almost a month later: considerably better. All around a much better experience, both service and food wise. Knowing what we did about the menu from last time we went for different options, this time BBQ chiggin things (very tasty), portobello burger (also very tasty and not overly juicy like they tend to be), and the quinoa and roasted yam salad. All very good, only really minor presentation issues with the salad. Apple crumble for dessert was also rather good. Service this time was worlds better, and having one of the owners (pretty sure it was at least) asking for feedback on their new items was pretty nice. I've been twice now. First time was a week after they opened -- it was a really bad experience overall service-wise. Told myself I'd come back a few weeks later after they'd had time to work out the kinks. I'm glad I did because things have definitely improved. My second time in the staff were very attentive and knowledgeable, and the food came out quickly. The one thing that stands in the way of a 5-star review for me is the beer pricing. It was $6.50 for a roughly 14-ounce mason glass; we would have stuck around for another round or two and maybe some fries if it wasn't $4.75 for a 16-ounce sleeve of the same local brands a block away at the Main on Main, and similarly priced at the Reef only half a block further. read more

Meet on Main = vegan/vegetarian/gluten free bar food. The beer-battered cauliflower with tamarind chili-ginger glaze is delish. I'd come back to this restaurant specifically for them! If you're not a fan of sweet sauces, this dish won't be for you. The churro rice pudding balls are also quite good; however, they're incredibly overpriced. $6 for two quarter-sized balls is not worth it. I would not suggest getting the romaine and kale caesar salad at Meet on Main. The kale could use more "massaging," the croutons are soggy pieces of white bread, and the dressing is rather plain. Heirloom Vegetarian Restuarant has a far tastier version of a caesar with cornbread croutons and a mouth-watering dressing. read more

The boyfriend and I went for lunch today. We had the chilli cheese fries and the cauliflower bites which were both super tarty and filling. The house made ginger beer he ordered was really good and I liked that I could get a kombucha with my meal. We also have picked up deliveries from Vegan Supply from both the Main and Gastown locations. The staff are always super prompt and friendly. If I could suggest anything to make this place better it would be a third location on Commercial so we could visit more often! read more

We finally went on a whim and was surprised to see many familiar faces in the restaurant! So we get a table and are amazed with how the place looks and the food looks and smells awesome. I don't even know where to begin. This place is seriously awesome. Some of the best vegan food I've ever had, amazing service, and good atmosphere. If you don't try this place, you are simply missing out. My friend and I shared the Hot Chiggin' Things, Corn Fritters, Chili Cheese Fries, and the Santorini salad. All amazing. We had some time to kill so we sat and let that all digest a bit and then I had the rootbeer float and my friend had the rice pudding churro balls for dessert. Also amazing. I decided to try Meet on Main tonight. I heard about this restaurant through Yelp as I usually do with all the places I try. As I entered I was greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess who took me right over to my table. I really enjoyed the rustic style decor and the open ceiling with the wooden beams visible. My waitress arrived in a timely matter and took my drink and appetizer order. For my drink I ordered the House-Made Ginger Shrub Beer which I PERSONALLY did NOT like at all, I'm sure people LOVE it, maybe it's an acquired taste. For my first appetizer I ordered the Zesty Hummus which came out of the kitchen very fresh, lemon-zested with a roasted garlic flavour to it, they topped it with pico de gallo, they also drizzled it with toasted sesame seed oil that I loved, it was served with tortilla chips, it was very tasty I would definitely get it again! For my second appetizer I ordered the Corn Fritters with chipotle mayo, they were also very very good! For my main course I ordered the Noodle-Y Thai Bowl which was served with rice noodles, shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, marinated tofu, tossed in an almond thai sauce, topped with fresh cilantro, sesame seeds, cashews, scallions and a wedge of lime, I got mine without the scallions because I'm not a huge fan of onions. The main course was a HIT! I loved everything about it! I would return JUST for that Thai bowl! In conclusion it was an all around great experience, the service was great, the food was amazing, the amount of great flavourful food items on their menu was fantastic for a vegan restaurant! I'd give it 5 stars but service is slow. It's nice to take your time and dine but I've been here many times, and there is no sense of urgency. Sometimes I feel forgotten...but...the food is incredible. Probably the best burgers in town (for a veggie). I used to think Rogue Wet Bar had the best but this is now 1st place. The burgers are JUICY. Really. And they come with awesome crispy fries and a salad. Holy. The curries are great but compared to burgers the portions are small on some of the mains. Confusing. The Picnic main is killer good. Chili. Cornbread. Coleslaw...Bloody hell is was ambrosia. Beer list is small and hyper local. I love. Having been vegan for 12 years, and now eating meat again, I was pleasantly surprised at how far the vegetarian/vegan restaurants have come.
