I've done my share of group workout classes around NYC and a few trial personal training sessions. The personal training that I wanted to continue investing in was with Don. Don trains my now husband and I together, and he helped us "shred to wed" before our wedding! He made sure to cater the workouts to our goals and even more so before our big day, mixing in weight training and cardio. He also includes some partner workouts for us that make exercising more engaging. Our workouts are in a separate level to an MMA studio which require you to either go barefoot or have a change of inside sneakers - it's clean and no one will distract from your workout as it's in a different area from your training. On nice spring / summer days, we take our workouts outside! I've also had to travel a lot, and Don will write workout and meal plans for when you're on the road which is amazing. I feel like I can stay consistent with our training and my goals. Don knows when to encourage and challenge you to work harder and also listens and modifies when you need it. Donald is great to train with for many reasons: 1. He's very calm and easy to work with, i felt instantly comfortable from day one. 2. He has respect from all the other trainers and patrons at the location he trains at. 3. He knows how to modify certain moves or workouts to accommodate injuries or weaknesses and he is in no way judgmental or rude about it. 4. He's a great conversationalist which definitely helps pass the time on days you are there when you don't want to be. 5. He's super respectful of your time, he's never once been late and he's always worked with me the entire session time and never once tried to cut the session short. It's hard to find a great trainer in NY, so I was more than happy when I met Don. I had very specific fitness goals at the time, and Don knew just what I needed. Not only did he provide varied workouts each session, so my muscles felt consistently challenged, but he also designed a meal plan based on my weight and fitness goals. He was also diligent with tracking my progress and increasing the intensity of my workouts accordingly. He was always mindful of my limits, though. He doesn't overtrain to the point of injury like some overly ambitious, forceful trainers out there do. I always felt like I was in good hands. I miss training with him! Don is a great trainer, he helped my wife and I train up before our beach wedding, so obviously we had ambitious training goals. I also had an old shoulder injury that I wanted to push the boundaries on, which I know is a difficult situation to be put in for any trainer. Don delivered on both ends, catering effective workouts to meet our goals but also keeping in mind injury limits and slowly pushing them. He switched up the workouts so we wouldnt get too bored or plateau which was perfect, and even gave us some supplemental workouts we could do at home on our own. I am almost hesitant to post a review. This owner is soliciting reviews and only positively accepting 5 star reviews and reporting real experiences as inaccurate. He is negatively responding when reviews are not 5 stars. I unfortunately do not have a 5 Star review and expecting a negative response. Like others, I've had similar subpar and less than optimal experiences. I trained with Donald at MMA. I was already in great shape and we trained for four months but I did not see any results. He does not track your progress like other personal trainers and his workouts are randomly thrown together each session. He does talk a lot to others in the gym and I've personally experienced training while he contributed to sexist and offensive conversations. I do agree that Donald is the kindest person you will meet but professionally not a great trainer. I needed consistency in my workout routine and Donald was the cheapest trainer I could find. His prices are a third of other professional trainers and we all know you get what you paid for. I was planning to give 3 stars but after reading the reviews and owner responses to all of the less than 5 star reviews I am quite skeptical of this business. read more

I purchased Donald's one on one training program that went on for about a month. The program is definitely worth it! He gives you a meal plan and makes it so that it fits your dietary needs and recommended calorie intake. Throughout the training sessions I was always challenged but never pushed to do anything that I couldn't do. Slowly, every week would get harder and harder. BUT! The sessions would be curated at my pace and level. Safety was always a priority and Donald made that very clear in all of our sessions. My fiancé and I, who are at different fitness levels for different areas, found Donald through a Groupon special. His style is great for first-timers to personal training, and he can adapt quickly to changing needs. For example, I sustained a shoulder injury a little over a year ago that made it difficult for me to do sustained upper-body exercises, so for me, he focused on building back that strength. For my fiancé, the focus was on getting his cardio endurance up, as he was already used to strength-training exercises. Donald always provides a good challenge, but is also patient. If you need to rest an extra minute, he gives you two just to be sure. He is also adept at simultaneously handling multiple clients with different goals, and makes good use of your time. Though we've only been through a trial period with him, we are seriously looking into booking time with him on a more regular basis. Don is a great trainer. I have been training with him for 3 months. I always went to the gym. But having Don makes a big difference in my workout. He brings you to another level.
