Lagree is one of those workouts that seems easy enough but then you get humbled 2 minutes in. This workout is a mental challenge and physical challenge! It's excellent strength and endurance training. You will be shaking if you're doing it right! Amy and Erick are both excellent instructors that provide excellent form pointers and motivation throughout class. The classes are wonderful and paired with great music for a very effective workout. Pilates Plus OC is somewhat close to my office, so when I saw an opening in the evening, I booked it right away. They are located in the same plaza as Bello by Sandro Nardone and European Wax Center. GRIP SOCKS REQUIRED, which is very typical for pilates. What surprises me is that there was no liability waivers. I ran into 2 of the owners and the instructor for the day all knew it was my first visit, so there's no way all three of them forgot to make me sign a waiver. At this studio they use a patented Megaformer machine and practice the Lagree Method. These megaformer machines have a wider and lighter carriage. They were made for a more versatile movement and allows for an optimal full body work out. I personally feel like this work out is more advanced than a traditional pilates class. Dana was my instructor and she was so encouraging. Love how positive, high energy and upbeat the energy was throughout class. It was definitely a full body work out and I felt myself challenged and sweaty for every minute of it. Being a first time attendee to the studio, Dana made sure that I understood the instructions and provided adjustments as needed. I somehow made it through the class, and she actually said I did really well and kept up for my first visit. I also liked how the patented Megaformer was labelled so you know exactly where to place your hand or foot for an optimal work out throughout the class. It took a moment for me to get accommodated to this new machine. After class you have to wipe down all of your equipment. With this big megaformer machine and all of the equipment we touched, it was so much to clean. I'm sure some folks clean better than others. Overall an intense work out that left me feeling drained and empowered at the same time. I'm really proud of myself for making it through class and I would definitely consider coming back when I see an opening since they are located conveniently near enough to my office. read more

Almost all of the good instructors left. Vivian is still there and amazing but she's barely on the schedule. Now it's mainly new instructors who are inexperienced. I took a class with Natalee recently (former front desk person) and she was rude, saved spots for her friends and did not correct anyone's form the entire class. I won't be renewing my membership because I don't want to spend money on experimenting with new instructors. read more

I've been here twice so far, always in the morning. I also go to Radiant yoga next door, I think megaformer and hot yoga are great compliments for different days. I like that Mega Well (Pilates Plus) has lot of early morning classes, even on the weekends, which is super appreciated. I have an extremely weak core, and this class certainly helps (I can barely do any core stuff still). There are always plenty of parking in the early mornings and it's close to my home, I will definitely be back for more. read more

I highly recommend taking classes with Vivian. She is an excellent LaGree instructor who teaches an authentic LaGree class. Vivian's class programing allowed participants to transition quickly and achieve the, "Shake, Sweat, Sore," the method is known for. Got my first Pilates class with the Megaformer machine here. Judy is sweet, super energetic, and pushes you through the whole session. If you are new to Pilates, this class will be a killer! I work out regularly, but my legs feel like jelly now. The studio is a bit smaller than I thought, but it's very nice and clean. Will definitely come back! read more

Just moved here from LA where I was a member of Pilates Platinum and got totally addicted to SPX pilates. I was stoked when I found out that there was a studio here in OC. Prices are higher than PP which gave me a bit of a sticker shock. Overall, I have had a good experience with the studios. Clean, machines in working order and well maintained, lots of different times offered for classes, good teachers and friendly and accommodating owners. I have only been to the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa locations, but Newport Beach is my fave and I am sticking to it. My only complaint is the cancellation policy. I have attended lots of SPX classes from CA to NYC and have never experienced a 24 hour cancellation policy. 12 hours is fair, 8 hours is generous, but 24 hours is harsh considering sometimes if you are sick it takes that much time for symptoms to kick in! My fave teachers so far are Bryan (high energy, fun and encouraging), Alicia (well rounded workout with some great stretching and classical pilates moves thrown in), Vanessa (kicks your butt every time, but great music and time flies). I am still pretty new to the studios and looking forward to trying other teachers and updating my review. If you are looking for an efficient workout that tones your body and burns calories like no other, look no further. This workout is the best I have found and everyone that I introduce to it gets ADDICTED - try it! They have a great starter package for $69 for 2 weeks unlimited so that you can try the workout and different studios and teachers to see if this is for you. read more

My doctor actually recommended that i start Pilates to strengthen my core for my low back and hip problems (bulging disc and SI joint disfunction after 2 babies) I love Jen, Gianna, and Vanessa as my instructors- they are so sweet and are excellent teachers. They worked with me to show modifications for my problems. I started out with the 2 private sessions for $90 deal because I was a newbie and wanted to get comfortable with the machine - do your research- I didn't find a better price on private sessions in irvine/newport area. Even though the group class can fit up to ten people, the instructors make sure to give individualized attention to everyone. They walk around to check on everyone, to make sure they are ok with the weights (in my case, it's mostly lessening the weight), to gently correct your form. So even if you are a total newbie, you feel welcomed and never feel like you aren't good enough. Everyone gets a good workout at their own level and pace. I am sore for days after... I am editing my review because I saw that someone gave a horrible rating, stating they were endorsing yelp reviews. This isn't true. I didn't get anything for my review except for a genuine, heart felt thank you - they totally deserve a 5 star for truly meeting everyone's needs, providing individualized attention to everyone in class, and giving everyone an amazing workout! read more

I took Lagree /SPX style Pilates in Los Angeles for several years, before moving to Orange County. It got me into the best shape of my life. As I'm looking to get back into shape, I decided to check this place out. I'm glad that I did. While I'm not sure that the classes are as intense as the ones at my prior studio, I am still seeing results. The instructors are warm and encouraging, and the classes accommodate all ages and fitness levels. It is a bit pricey, and parking can be a little chaotic, as there are a number of popular places packed into one tiny shopping center (however, I've always been able to find a place to park). I just started doing pilates and have been to a few different studios. This by far is the best studio I've experienced. Today was my third class and it was with Dana. Every instructor has been incredible but she really stuck out! I loved that she would direct my body to where it should be so I got the right workout. It is easy to get injured at Pilates Plus because the class goes so quickly and you want to keep up. They move fast and from one exercise to the next. So you do your best, regardless if you are doing it correctly. The teachers try to help you, but they are calling out the poses one after another, so there is no time for them to help everyone. If you can find a class with only a couple of people the first couple of times, if you can.:) It is impossible to learn the machine just from showing up one or two times. I took enough classes with several new people like me, and we tried, but I don't think we were doing it right, and my body didn't feel great afterwards. Also, when you are new you don't understand how to sign up, and when you look on line, every single early class is booked, so you have to go at 11 or 12 to take a class. If you show up early, there is no one there to help you, the trainers do the check ins, and there is a class going on before the class you want. As other reviewers wrote, there is a system, but if you are new, it is a challenge to figure it out. I have worked out my entire life, and would say you are better off doing cardio another time, and take a Pilates class at a slower pace, as to not get hurt. The reformer is strong, and if you don't know how much weight, and how to not hurt your back, or pull an arm or shoulder muscle, doing something wrong, don't do the classes. The teachers are very nice and the place is clean. All the reviews that say it is hard to get an owner or to know who the owners are, because no one signs their emails are correct. It is expensive $39 for one class, and the deals for two weeks is nice, but you can't get into the evening or morning classes, unless you go on a wait list, and then they go down the list and call people, and the first to answer gets the spot. Also, having dogs allowed in a work out facility is unsanitary. The owner brings in her little white dog, and one of the clients had her dog, in her purse next to the reformer. I was very surprised, and found that very strange. Lastly, if you don't bring the special socks, they will charge you 20 dollars to purchase a pair to wear. Plan ahead, and buy them somewhere else. read more

I just finished up my "two weeks for $69" promo. It was TOTALLY worth it! Here's my breakdown of the instructors that I took: Vanessa She's one of the owners. I loved her class because every word that came out of her mouth was a cue that made me have better form. No fluffy "You can do it!" empty words...just when you thought you were going to collapse, she'd throw out a cue that propped you back up. SOLID instruction. Tina Super upbeat and fun. While she did have a lot of the "You can do it!" phrases flying, you could tell she meant them. She also did hands-on adjustments which were great for me since I am new and need to learn the exercises. She also played good music. Upbeat class. Mimosa Her class was fun, too. I was super sore after her class in all the right places. She had a good knowledge of the exercises and explained them in a way that I could understand. All of the classes were hard. Pretty decent Megaformer Studio in Newport Beach. If you're not familiar with the Lagree Fitness regime, it's basically a Pilates reformer machine on crack, designed to push and pull your body to new extremes. Most of the studios I've been to have 40 minute workouts, but Pilates Plus does the maximum 50 minutes, which passed more quickly than I imagined. The studio is small (around 7-8 machines), located in the North Bluffs shopping center, and is a fairly no frills studio. The instructor was good (Marin) and corrected forms, but the studio isn't particularly welcoming. Overall, my workout was quite good (I'll definitely feel sore tomorrow), which is ultimately what I'm looking for. I was surprised that I was able to handle the full 50 minutes, but with all the transition, it passes very quickly. Pilates Plus also runs the full gamut of 6 AM - 6 PM workout times for people who prefer early morning or after work workouts. read more

I gave Pilates Plus a solid 6 month chance last year. I went at least twice a week, sometimes four times. The classes are good, the instructors are good, the music is good ... overall, 4 stars worthy. But what brings it down to three stars is their cancellation fees. They are ridiculous. Classes fill up fast, so as soon as the schedule opens up each month, you have to go in and schedule your classes for the month. You can cancel a class 24 hours or more in advance without penalty, but if within two hours you are charged $15 and if you no show or cancel between the 2 hours and the class start time - you get a whopping $25 charge. I understand that they want people to keep their scheduled times, but DAMN, that's a considerable amount of money to charge. If you have a schedule that isn't mostly free or often has random changes ... you're going to pay for it. Literally. There were months that my charges exceeded my $199 a month fee. So, overall, pricey, good workout, pricey. read more

Wow... JUST WOW. A friend told me that Pilates Plus OC is really Pilates ON CRACK! I'm definitely not going to say she's wrong! I walked in with the right expectations and I knew that this would be a fast-paced class where I would sweat my face off! The studio is located in the Newport North shopping center and has plenty of parking in the afternoons. Once you enter, there's a small reception and seating area mainly for newbies and those waiting for the next class to start. At the back of the studio, there are cubbies to keep your things in during class as well as filtered water. There's also a restroom if you need to do your business or change, but it's a one-person deal, so you might be better off changing before you get here. The reformers used here are Mega Reformers and they will kick your butt! The exercises are exactly like normal pilates except they are quicker and more intense... I believe they call it the Lagree method. It's all the strength/toning of pilates with the heart-pumping cardio moves! My favorite instructors are Marin & Kris... Both really high energy and will kick your butt! Pros: -Amazing Burn -Engaging Workout -Total Body Workout! I've noticed this place before when i was dating someone that lives down the road from it. I look them up on yelp and notice they have 2 weeks unlimite delas for $49. so i signed up for it. i go to both locations the costa mesa and this one. I came to this location first on my off friday 1/18/13. Parking was tight... and also not that many available to choose from since there are restaurants and ice cream joint. the teacher i had that day was good.. She was really nice and unassuming that you've been there before. She asked me if i had been to thse machines classes. I said i have been to Coreology in PV they have the Megaformer. here's it's the reformer i think.. so the machine was slightly different.. i had a hard time with the color weights... it kicked my butt... the clients are teh typical OC wives that are not too friendly. But i didn't care... i'm not there to make friends. read more

What can I say? I'm addicted! I bought a three session package though a Charity Silent Auction last year, proceeded to do the $49 two week unlimited package, and now I'm fully enrolled in their $199 unlimited package for the next six months! It is a really hard workout but I love a challenge! The instructors are all very different, which I love because it keeps my interest and it never gets old. For whatever reason, it seems that my waist was the first to firm up. I've received many compliments on that, which I didn't expect. The absolute best full body workout in the country. High intensity yet low impact to your joints. It will leave you shaking and sweating in the best way possible. 50 mins flies by. This workout has transformed my body completely. I'm leaner, stronger more toned and have more endurance when I run. I even have defined abs now! I have been going to this Pilates studio for years (minus taking a break for a while post-partum). I even took private lessons here while I was pregnant, up until 37 weeks pregnant. Almost all of the instructors are absolutely outstanding - you can't get a better full-body workout in 50 minutes anywhere! Your whole body will be shaking. After even just a few classes I always feel stronger, leaner, and more toned! Good classes book up quickly so you will need to book ahead of time. It is worth every penny and every minute! read more

I recommend that if you have never tried traditional Pilates, to do that first before signing up for the classes. I personally like group work out classes, it is better to me to work out with someone telling me what moves to do than to try to do it on my own. I've only been here for 2 weeks, and I have to say I am seeing results. Pro's- the first class I took was with a guy named Kris, and he helped out a lot. He was making sure my form was good, and kept coming to me to show me what the move entailed. He is great for your first time. I then took to more classes, and I have to say that they were pretty helpful as well. I read the reviews and they said that it's not for beginners cause the instructor seems to "forget" about you in a sense, but I think that the reviews worked, cause now they walk around and tell the class that it is form over reps. Also, their website is very helpful and explains a lot of the details of the place. Cons- if you aren't used to pilates, I would recommend taking one of their beginners class (which the only offer once a week at the Newport beach center). I also think if you are looking to just try it out, be prepared to pay a huge amount. for unlimited for 2 weeks is $49, for 1 month is $255, for 3 months is $225, and for 6 months is $189. So it does get less expensive as you commit to more classes (note: those prices are for one of the centers, you can sign up for unlimited at both for $10 more). Also, you can't just walk in, you have to sign up on line, and they don't offer a lot of details at the center. One last thing that is both a pro or con, depending on the person, is that if you cancel a class less then 24 hours before the actual class, you are charged $15, and if you cancel only 2 hours before of you don't show up, you're charged $25. All in all, I am glad I am going to this place. I even have scoliosis and am able to work out there. If you are someone that needs to go fast, like a boot camp, then don't come here. read more
