Tried out this place for the first time today and will definitely be back for more!! We ordered the following sushi: Uni Toro Clam (Japanese) Black Snapper Octopus Yellowtail belly (not pictured) Surf Clam (not pictured) and one Yellowtail Roll I particularly enjoyed the cut of each sushi: thin but long. Everything was so good! Uni (which was fresh from Santa Barbara) is usually my favorite, but the special Japanese clam was the winner for the day. It was the best I've ever had and look forward to ordering it next time I come. They have a good selection of rolls and cooked foods (such as chicken teriyaki), for those who aren't fans of sushi. They also served an excellent selection of higher quality cold sake :) The sushi was always prompt and the servers were excellent. Make sure to ask them about the price for the daily specials because we scored 4 pieces of toro for $16. Overall, I think we found a new go-to place for great sushi. read more

I am sure other reviews ensure quality, fresh and great sushi that served here but what made it even special is their customer service. It's like going to your best friends place and spend time eating there. That's how I feel when I go to Megu Sushi, chef Ming and Willy is very nice and talented with his knife. His choice of fish that he served never fail to satisfy my palette. I never have even a mediocre fish quality, all I tasted and suggested by Chef Ming is amazing Oh did I mentioned they have specials sapporo and other drinks specials? Give them a try and I promised you that you won't be disappointed. Been here quite a few times now and finally I can say that his sushi place is a must addition to Simi area which already full of all you can eat type sushi place. Lastly, I came by today to try out their New lunch and happy hour specials that happening on Tuesday to Thursday lunch and dinner. Ordered the Miso Ramen with spicy tuna, crab, and yellowtail hand rolls and what I can summarize my experience into is "there was an attempt." The presentation is below average and some of the ingredients had an aged look. Despite half the food having an unappealing look we pushed through and finished what we could. The ramen is $13?! Like my goodness they must have really thought this out to price it at $13 but nope! The miso broth tastes like watered down free miso you get at many Japanese sit downs and the portion of noodles was laughable. The "chashu" was the equivalent to a skinny side portion of bbq pork rib at a cheap Hawaiian joint and the flavor justifies the example. The egg was hard boiled too. So $13 bowl of ramen here gets you 50 cent top ramen flavor compared to a $13 "hits the spot" bowl in little Tokyo. I've never felt so robbed before. The hand rolls were bland. Especially the spicy tuna and the crab. The yellowtail just tasted like mayo and the overall texture was mushy with super chewy seaweed wraps. I have a feeling that the owners haven't had decent sushi or ramen in a long while so I can imagine the possibility that this quality of food might make someone think it's passable. But for me, if you cut the price in half and served it to me fresh, I still wouldn't recommend coming here. 2 stars because I've seen worse in the east coast. read more

This review is only to discuss my experience following eating at the establishment...to begin the food was good we ordered online and selected the option to pay cash upon pick up. Fast forward to the next day my husband receives a phone call from the owner/manager telling us that they reviewed the orders they received online and that it appears the payment did not go through for our order. I proceeded to tell the lady that we paid cash and we left a tip and her reply was that she was sorry and that they lost our payment. I'm sorry but you loosing the money for the food we paid for is not my problem. Never have I ever had an establishment contact me the next day regarding payment for a meal. I just thought I would share because I'm sure we are probably not the first customers they have done this too but let this be a lesson to patrons who frequent this establishment as well as the owners...TIGHTEN UP THAT SERVICE AND DON'T BOTHER A CUSTOMER THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE YOU LOST PAYMENT!! read more

Super high quality products at not super high quality prices. Reminded me of Sugarfish, but nowhere near as expensive. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Clearly a local spot with regulars coming in for a bite and a chat. It's obvious why: The fish is expertly prepared, kitchen items arrive fresh and at the right temperature. Cucumber salad was so crispy and delicately marinated we ordered a second one almost immediately. Shrimp tempura was lightly battered, piping hot, moist and tender inside. Also I know it's wildly basic but have to say - the california roll? Fantastic. Nice hunk of avocado. Almost no mayo (just enough to bind the krab and add a hint of flavor). Not too much rice. For what it's worth, Happy Hour is an outstanding deal...like I don't even want to mention it because I want it all for myself, but I know that's wrong. Wonderful things should be shared. I am so happy... I have finally found my sushi spot. I am new to Simi and since October I have been on the hunt for a sushi restaurant that I like. Before Megu Sushi I tried about 5 different places and none of those were what I was looking for. Today I was driving around and remembered this place and ordered 1 roll just to try it out. It was delicious and now I have to go back and try more! The rice was perfect, the crab and fish were fresh, the tempura was crispy, and the roll smelled so yummy (not fishy like others I have had). Everyone was extremely friendly and following Covid safety precautions. They have a small but very welcoming outdoor dining area set up with heaters for chilly nights. I am beyond excited that I finally found a gem in Simi. Looking forward to trying out the variety on the menu. read more

As someone who moved to Simi from LA, I can honestly say this place is severely underrated. Great prices, fresh sashimi cuts, and amazing specialty rolls. It is a family owned place and the owner Joe is also the main sushi chef. You won't find a better kept secret than this, especially in Simi. Even when they are busy, it's well worth the wait. To people that leave bad reviews for delivery or takeout: Sushi is best experienced in person and no restaurant deserves to be put down because you didn't eat the food while it was fresh. Before we sat down the waiter told us the food was coming out slow and we've been wanting to try this place so we decided to wait it out. Our food took the longest out of the people who came in at the same time as us and after us. My miso soup was forgotten. I still am giving them 4 stars as they were busy and seemed to be short staffed. Plus the food was worth the wait! All the food we ordered was so tasty. We would defiantly come back again. Since our first visit we have ordered take out, delivery and dined in several times. It has easily become our favorite sushi spot in Simi! For Simi Valley, I would definitely award this place FIVE stars, but given that we have eaten better sushi at a few other places out of Simi Valley, I can only award four stars...... if they had half-stars on Yelp, I'd make this 4.5, but again, the fact that it's in Simi Valley is like 5. We NEVER find anything in Simi that we are willing to rave about..... except the Greek House Café. But I digress. Megu Sushi did a really good job with the rolls we ordered. They were large, fish was presented in plentiful cuts, AND it was fresh...... obviously, a very important factor. They hit the mark across the board. So, why didn't I give 5 stars? Because in the lemon garlic roll, it should have been overpowering me with a garlic flavor (like at Anaba in Oxnard), and it simply did not here at Megu. It said there was a garlic ponzu sauce...... I saw it, but garlic flavor, nope. Just tasted like ponzu, which isn't bad, I like ponzu, but if it says garlic, I expect garlic flavor. I sure tasted the lemon.... delicate little slices were hiding under the sushi...... so that was cool, but still, no appreciable garlic flavor. The other aspect that knocked the stars to 4, which isn't a bad thing, just not the top rating, is that they don't have as broad of a menu when it comes to rolls. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good listing of rolls, just not 5-star worthy. I want to be clear....... we WILL avail ourselves to this sushi restaurant OFTEN because it's close to home, and it's really good. It was a little loud in there as all tables were full when we walked in, and the tables (for my liking) were a bit too close. We sat there listening to our neighbors (because it was unavoidable), and they were loud anyway. I would have preferred if it was a bit more spread out....... and quieter. However, it won't deter me from going back. Overall, kudos to Megu Sushi for giving me hope that I CAN enjoy restaurants in Simi Valley. Doesn't happen too often. read more

One of the best sushi spots hands down in Simi!!! The quality never disappoints. Service is always exceptional too. Nothing to see here. Move along. It's slow...one waitress for the whole dining room for a Friday dinner rush. Be ready to have to flag her down if you need anything. The kids' short-ribs order with a side of miso soup came out fairly fast. But the waitress and the sushi chefs seemed too overwhelmed to be able to dish out sushi in an acceptable amount of time. To be fair, we did walk in in the middle of the dinner rush. The fish was ok, nothing special. I like to support the small mom and pop shops whenever I can.
