I came here once and the service was vibrant and quick, along with affordable. The second time a month later, I'll never step foot- and I'm somebody who spends at least $100 each visit and tips 25%., I've been to so many Desi salons since moving to the other boroughs (BK and Queens) since 2017. I understand the culture of them and to usually not expect anything beyond ordinary. I stopped by here last minute for full body waxing as I was leaving for Miami early the next morning. It was 16 degrees and I had a toddler with me. No greeting walking in, was told to "sit down" 2x (the second time demanded to aggressively) to which I had to respond in Hindi finally assertively- to correct her tone a bit. Walked out. Good riddance. Learn to speak TO people, not AT them- whether they are Bengali or not. A paying customer is a paying customer and this salon lost out on $100+ of services and at least a quarter of prices in tip all for their tone and mannerism. Sad. If anyone's wondering if they should go here DONT. They are UNLICENSED. Which is ILLEGAL. This one lady cut my hair up to shoulders and claims it was only 5 inches when my hair was up to my butt when I came in. And then threatened to LOCK THE DOOR AND KEEP ME HOSTAGE when I was crying and said I didn't not want to pay. Why would I pay for a service that you messed up so bad without even stopping once to think? I asked them multiple times to show me their cosmetology license and she didn't. I said tell me ur name and SHE DID NOT "KNOW" HER OWN LAST NAME!! Well thank God I recorded the whole interaction and will be reporting this highly illegal "salon". They only said "sorry" when I threatened to call the cops yet still no refund? But my next service will be free.... WHY WOULD I COME BACK??!! My normal eyebrow place was closing and so i went here instead. My normal lady does a spectacular job but this wasnt a bad second choice. I went in it was empty so i was attended to right away. The lady followed my instructions left room for my eyebrows to grow and didnt try to force her opinion on me (which ive seen with alot of indian places) my only thing was that it was extremely painful she was reallyyyyy slow and took out like one hair at a time and honestly it was one of the longest 10-15 minutes of my life! And i dont have bushy eyebrow. At the end she did give me a nice massage because it was apparent the amount of pain i was in. read more

Came in about 20 minutes before they close - the first thing I did when I walked in was ASK if they had enough time to do eyebrow threading and arm waxing - they said yes. I sit for about 5 minutes while the 3 extremely not busy employees sat around and talked in Hindi/Punjabi about how I came in right before they're closing and I should know better...probably not realizing that I could understand what they were saying. Ok, whatever. The woman does my eyebrows and they're fine. I go back in a room for my waxing and she does it so unbelievably quickly and gets a huge drip of hot wax onto my shirt and doesn't even apologize...just looks at it and keeps going. Really good place. I only go for eyebrow threading ($4) and underarm waxing ($6). They do a really good job with my eyebrows (I'm extremely particular with my eyebrows and I've been going here for about 8 years because I live super close). I only go to one woman (is it bad that I don't know her name?) but she's short, light in complexion, glasses and has shoulder length curly hair that's always tied back. She's great but I always specify that I only want them cleaned up, thick and not thin. Also, they say they open at 10am but if you ever go at 10 they'll be cleaning. I understand sometimes you're caught off guard by early customers but come in a little earlier and get all the cleaning and stuff done so that you're actually open at 10am. The cheap prices is the only reason I venture out to Hillside. The ladies look angry and intimidating but they're really good with threading my eyebrows, so I don't mind. It's $4 for eyebrow threading and they take their time to get every single hair out. BUTTTTT make sure you specify how you want your brows. She is doing my eyebrows and haircuts for the last 15 years and she feels like family at this point. Other ladies are also good and very nice. They can be very crowded in the weekends, for the right reasons though. If you are a local, you will only go to Mehak for their consistency and affordable prices. The owner is always yelling and screaming for no valid reason at the employees. While I got my service done, and after the service the attendants were asking for a tip. I've been going here for 10 years. Yesterday was the worst ever. My regular person beena wasn't in. I was in a rush and went to another lady, short, light complexion with glasses. .everything started off well until she decided to trim my eyebrows. I told her don't cut too much I don't like it thin..after she's done she gave me the mirror to look at it..i was so upset but was in a rush ..i told her it's thin. .i told u don't cut too much. She insisted I didn't tell her not to cut. She wouldn't stop arguing with me..half of which I couldn't even understand. I Told her you need to understand how to treat customers. ..why did I even say that because she just wouldn't stop arguing and defending herself. I still had my other eyebrows to get done but she was still arguing. I then proceeded to ask another lady to pls tell her I'm in a rush to pls finish up..then she started talking in hindi not knowing I understand everything what she was saying so I interrupted her and let her know I understand what you're saying. I come here pretty much every month to do my waxing. They have a great deal for full arms, full legs, underarms and they throw in free eyebrow threading. I don't have any real complaints about this place. Everyone is pretty fast and they get the job done (With a lot of the girls informing you about how hairy you are, but I'm willing to accept that at this price lol). I would absolutely come back, I go to school nearby but i live in New Jersey and I would still make the trip from Jersey to here because you can't really beat these prices outside Jamaica. I can't speak about their hair styling services because I only come here for waxing and threading, but they do cuts and color as well. Also, don't know if this happens everywhere in NY but if you're paying by card vs. cash, they add tax. So I usually pay with cash and save a few bucks. PS- Parking here is nearly impossible since its on the main road itself- you can usually find free parking down one of the streets perpendicular to Hillside itself, but I usually take the subway when I can (there's stops right across the street). read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! I got my makeup done from this place, and after 3 ladies worked on it because I was unhappy with the results I still left the salon crying because I had a wedding to get to and my makeup was a disaster. All they kept doing was complaining about how another location sent me to them and they had no idea and were now stuck with having to deal with this. They kept arguing with each other, "you do it, you do it". I am not picky about my makeup at all and they made it seem as if I was the one with the issue. Towards the end when I mentioned and showed them the shadow of concealer that was not blended in well, one of them (the hairstylist) said she refused to work on me anymore. and GUESS WHAT? They did such a horrible job of gluing on my eyelash extensions that I was unable to remove them. They glued them onto my eyelid!! I tried oil, vaseline trying to get them off and nothing worked. I kept pulling on them for a week before they finally fell off, takin half my eyelashes along. went here to chop my hair off for spring (where you at tho). just wanted a straight cut above my shoulder but for some reason that was too simple of a request and she needed to jazz it up by giving me, i don't even know what it was, a rounded cut? short in front and long in back. looked fine in the salon but once i washed my hair i see it's in two different lengths. i literally just wanted a straight cut. had to fix it at home in the end, which probably defeated the purpose of going there. i guess it was common sense already to not come here for a haircut but whatever, learn from my mistake read more

I am only giving one star cause of the eye brows. I came here for face wax and hair color. I told the girl who was doing my face wax that my skin is sensitive so please go slowly and put some powder on before she does the waxing, she ends up doing it roughly and by moving my face hardly with her hand like I am a rag doll or something. My face ended up being all red with rashes all over. The lady said it will eventually go away but no it's been a week and it's still there. Also the same day I did a hair color and told the lady specifically that I want to stay in my hair color zone , she ended up making my hair orange which was not what I wanted and it was looking horrible so she said she will change it immediately , so she put something in my hair so the color can change but I notice my scalp felt like it was on fire. I asked her what the hell she put and she said she didn't put anything harsh. Well when I came home I noticed I had these huge lump of blisters on my scalp and I can literally see them. Long story short basically the lady knew she messed up panicked and ended up ruining my scalp. I have a feeling that she saw the blisters while she was combing my hair but never told me cause I notice she was looking at my scalp but never mention a word. These people never gave me an apology and took FULL payment from me. I will never come here again!! These people literally fucked up my scalp and face. After getting my brows done everywhere and anywhere, I was introduced to this place about a year and a half ago. I haven't had anyone else do my eyebrows since. This place is amazing! $4 for threading and they actually listen to what you want and accomplish it perfectly. I have had so many compliments on my brows since and I don't want this place to change at all. they also provide other services. $7 if you want eyebrows, lip, and chin done. $18.00 if you want to get your face waxed of unsightly facial hair (I have Indian genes, so this service does tend to be necessary). Eyebrow threading is free with this service, along with a lot of thier facials. This place is definitely worth to stop by for a cheap (but perfectly done) touch up to those brows. love love love mehak! read more

I wish I could give a zero star to this. It is good place for eyebrow threading. So I wanted to get my waxing done for full legs and arms. This was the first that I actually entered the room of the parlor.. It was so untidy with pieces of used wax paper on the floor. The lady quickly gave me the towel to change and didn't even bother to leave the room as I was changing. I had to ask her I she van step out for a while. Now comes the actual part.. I was also getting my underarms waxed. I was telling her that she was applying the wax ( applicators were untidy too and I think they don't change it from person to person) in the wrong direction .. She said I will take care of it and I am experienced .. And she pulled the strip in wrong direction before I could realize ..was hell lot of pain.. The she simply said ur hair grows in wrong direction and it isn't my fault.. And the main thing now.. I wanted to get threading done for my upper lip hair which I asked .. And then she persuaded me for waxing as it was obviously easy for her and less pain ful for me. She was in such a hurry she applied kind of really hot wax and tried pulling it so hard that I have scars on my face and they look so ugly. I didn't realize the day I got waxed but the next morning I got up just to realize that I had bruises in my underarms and all around my upper lip. I had a conference to attend to for which I had apply layers of foundation just to mask it.. And they are not ready to fade offprobably atleast for 5-6 months. I hate this parlor and particularly that lady who was just in rush to get things done so she can attend the next customer too and make money.. I am never going back again even for the eyebrows.
