Friendly service, good naans and excellent chicken biryani! Located on the edge of a shopping plaza where Hwy 89 meets Interstate 80 is Mehfil Indian Bistro, one of two in the Tahoe area. They are unaffiliated with each other though! Inside, you will find basic but a nice and sparkling interior with tables and booth seating next to all the windows. Easy parking right out in front and alongside the restaurant. We came here for a take out order and they invited us to sit down, served us water and were very friendly and chatty with us, even when there were other parties dining here too! Very cool! We ordered everything with mild seasoning (read not spicy just to be safe!) Our picks were as follows: 1) Chicken Biryani We absolutely loved the chicken biryani as it was a good sized portion all of it cooked to perfection. Tender chicken, perfect basmati rice. Most importantly, the Biryani flavors were very much on point 4/5. 2) The Chicken Tikka was a bit of a miss for us as we prefer just a little more kick to it, so maybe we'll tell them to make it just slightly spicier next time! Creamy, with cubes of white meat chicken. I think this could have been better. (3/5) 3) Garlic and Plain Naans: The naans were all carefully wrapped separately in foil for us to take home. As the naans are hot, wrapping em up causes them to absorb moisture, so we mildly toasted the naans again when we got back to our place. The leftovers were even better the next day! =) Excellent flavors on the naans (plain and garlic versions) - not too burnt like you get at other places 4/5. We found Mehfil Indian Bistro to be a good place to grab some Indian cuisine here in the Truckee area. I certainly won't mind coming back for the Biryani and the Naans. Friendly folks! read more

We've eaten here twice now (takeout), and the food has been consistent and absolutely delicious! The saag paneer was fantastic as was the lamb korma, and the salmon tandoori was a pleasant and yummy discovery. The ghee jeera rice was a special treat, and we have enjoyed all of the other dishes we tried. The samosas were also good. We definitely will be back. read more

We come here atleast once to this place when we go to Tahoe. This is to get our Indian food fix. The restaurant is big and service is good too. However it takes long time to get the food. Small operation with terrific food. All the dishes I ordered were prepared very well with all the subtle textures you want from nice Indian food. Completely empty when we arrived. The chili garlic naan bread was good, but the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala was just ordinary. The chicken was tough and hard. They tasted like the same dish just one was spicier. The rice seemed old, it was hard and some bits were crunchy. read more

This place was understaffed when I went on a Saturday night. Only one person running the register and serving as waiter for the restaurant. There were empty tables, but he told me "it would probably take a while" to eat in, so I got takeout. Bare bones decor. The workers from the snow equipment store recommended this place, so we decided to check it out. At 4:00, the restaurant was empty and the employee was attentive. We ordered samosas, lamb curry, chicken tikka, and nan. Food was standard, but the highlight is the crispy nann! I'd definitely skip the tikka masala because it was a bit blander than I'm used to, but lamb curry flavor was good. Ordered over the phone, food was ready in ten minutes. For two people, I ordered a side of rice, garlic naan and butter chicken. Entrees can definitely be shared between two people. Chicken was prepared very well, and the sauce had amazing flavor. Rice was solid, garlic naan too. Food was hot, even with the 10 minute drive home, Staff were nice and accommodating in person and on the phone. A person in our group had some allergies and they accommodated with ease. What a pleasant surprise this amazing Indian restaurant turned out to be! Located conveniently near the freeway, but not in a particularly fancy part of town, or looking impressive from the outside, we found the food to be sensational. The bangen bartha (shown in the photo) blew me away with its rich flavor and creamy texture. The kids loved the paneer tikka masala, which (ordered mild) wasn't too spicy for them. Had Lamb Bryani and hubby had a chicken and spinach dish that came with white rice. Also had garlic nan- super yummy. We love this place and it's amazing how good it is given it's the only indian restaurant in Truckee. So few restaurants in Truckee with great food, good prices. This is one of them. Service excellent and place very bright and clean. Also they spice the food aka if you ask for spicy hot, you get spicy hot. So we ordered Tawa Roti from this place and when we got the order home, there was no roti. I called the place and the front desk guy told me that they don't have Tawa Roti because it was busy. I asked him why they didn't tell me when I was at the restaurant picking up my food and charging my card. He said he was busy. I asked him to deliver, he said no. I asked him to refund, he is saying I need to talk to manager to refund . I told him that if I don't have the order, the idea thing is to refund at the minimum. I eat Indian food around the SF Bay Area mostly SF/East Bay more so than the Peninsula that has very very good Indian food. On my experience one evening for pickup it was some of the best Indian food I have had in my life. Stand outs were Lentil soup, Chicken soup, Basmati rice and the real winner was Bengan Bertha. Excellent Indian Food. Most probably our favorite meal in Truckee, definitely the most flavorful. It is consistently delicious. We always start with a Samosa Chaat, followed by Butter chicken with a side of raita for me and Lamb Biriyani for the husband, and of course an order of naan, both plain and garlic are delicious! We always take home the leftovers for a bonus dinner. It's the only place in town I get food cravings for! It's never busy here, food comes quick, huge menu with lots of different proteins, food is super tasty most importantly. Indian food is such a comfort food. The interior decor could be cozier and could use a womans touch, the lights are super bright inside. The waiters dont speak English.. so it's hard to communicate and ask them things about the menu which Is a situation i always seem to find myself in. So keep that in mind. Their food is amazing. Both the meat and vegetarian dishes are so tasty. The biryani are super tasty. I've only had takeout here but a large order only took about 25 minutes to complete. I wouldn't eat here - the decor is a bit cold. But it's clean and looks comfortable. This isn't just "good Indian food for Truckee" it's really good Indian food by any standard.
