Great market in the area. They offer so many different items that you can't find many other places locally. I was making an Asian dish and they were the only place that had fish sauce! I have also tried their deli sandwiches. Highly recommend any of them! I reached out to their customer service via the email address they had online. I saw that they had a sandwich that paid an homage to the Vietnamese Banh Mi, but incorrectly spelled "Bhan" Mehuron. The owner reached back out to me via email the very next day. We had a great conversation and he stated that they will look into correcting the misspelling. It warms my heart to have my culture's food be shared within this community and it's wonderful to see an owner really take pride in what they offer. Great customer service and inventory. I love this place but, man, does the deli counter dude hate everyone or just me? I'm trying to figure out why he barked at me within .2 seconds-- so much attitude and disdain. Gross. I have experienced many inconsistencies with the coleslaw. I love coleslaw and yours has to be the best I have ever had hands down. Although it is a rarity to get it in delicious form. Sometimes it is dry and taste like raw cabbage or to much vinegar or just blan. Never consistently delicious. Deli workers need to follow the recipe! read more

We stayed at the Mad River Inn and the owners recommended this market, so we went. We were so impressed with the selection inside this market. We were looking for items for a light dinner and snacks. There were so many options for local and imported cheeses and other items. We got there after the deli closed but wished we hadn't as the menu board looked very interesting. The employees were all helpful. Found a lot of gluten free items that many larger stores don't have. Wished this market was close to where we lived, we'd shop there all the time! read more

Not as shiny or large as a certain chain supermarket across the street, but Mehuron's is far, far better. Here's why: - They carry a lot of great local products: humanely raised meats, fresh and cured; a well curated selection of Vermont cheeses (though sometimes you need to be careful with dates for soft cheeses); ubiquitous maple syrup, of course; butter, yogurt, milk and other dairy products; salsa and chips; and best of all, difficult-to-find local microbrews. They even have organic, grass fed beef marrowbones for my pup and prices are not insane. - In general, prices are comparable to the big chain store and sometimes less expensive. - Quality of produce, meat and fish are generally very high -- much higher than the local competition. - The people who work at the store -- cashiers and others -- are much happier and friendlier than across the street. They are not fake nice like they'll be fired if they don't smile, but genuinely pleasant. - They have a good range of wines in the liquor market in the back, from decent and inexpensive, to excellent and moderate, and probably beyond. (We never really go beyond $30 a bottle unless it's a gift.) Prices are fair. - The only real downside is that selection from generic, big box producers (General Mills, Kraft and the like) is smaller than you'd find across the street. For us, that's not a big deal since we usually drive up with our Chex and Cheerios already in the Thule rack. The one item we bought from the big chain competition instead of Meheuron's this year was YoBaby yogurt in a squeezable packet (convenient for travel). We ski in the area once or twice every winter. Many years ago, we'd gravitate towards the across-the-street competition simply because it was bright, clean and large -- familiar. Now we know better! read more

Mehuron's is significantly larger on the inside than it is on the outside. I can count on two fingers the things I have looked for there and not found, including obscure things. In fact, sometimes, even if you ask an employee if they have something and they look at you like you have two heads as if to say "of course we don't have that" -- Mehuron's still probably has it. Pommery mustard? Got it (it's just not in the mustard section). 18 kinds of miso paste? Got it. My quality of life in the Valley would be significantly decreased without Mehuron's. read more

If you are looking for a great sandwich, look no further. Got a spinach wrap with bacon lettuce and tomato, no mayo, extra bacon. It is amazing, their bacon is out of this world. Great sandwich, why do even go to some of these other places? Food selection here is unique in a good way, great selections from snacks to poultry, excellent selection of fine cut meats, they also are very competitive on pricing and have great sales. I concur with the previous reviewers, Mehurons has been in business since the 1940's I think, and I believe it is still independently owned and operated. It has a state liquor store in the back with cigars, decent wines, and it stocks all the foodstuffs you need. And it isn't gigantic and filled with plastic food and screaming advertisements and bullcrap promotions. Everyone who works there has been there for a good period of time, and they know their stuff. Moved to the Valley recently and absolutely LOVE Mehuron's. It truly is a family store. Local products, the freshest meat and cheese around, awesome beer selection, and the nicest of people. Nate, Cody and Tyler make unbelievable sandwiches (Just try to find a better deal for under $5!). Rene at the front of the store always greets us with a big smile. We love making the trip! read more

Terrible. I am from Maine, staying in Warren for the summer. The first time I came here to get a bottle of wine, a crabby old lady told me she couldn't find the hologram on my license. I said hmm, strange, no one has had a problem with it before (I'm 27 and have had this current ID since I turned 21 )... So she snapped at me and said "do you want me to refuse you or what? I can just not sell you anything if you want" I looked at it when I left and the hologram is clearly visible. During my second visit I stopped by with my dog (italian greyhound) who had been at daycare in Essex Junction all day. I opened all the windows but not too much so he wouldn't try to jump out, and ran in to get some chips and a drink real quick. It was past 7 pm and the sun was going down. 5 minutes later I went to check out, and a different crabby old lady, (who didn't even acknowledge my presence by looking up let alone saying hi) looked at my Maine ID and said "are you the one with the little dog in the car? Its barking and I am associated with the humane society and you need to roll down the windows,, we are humane around here".. I swear.. I can totally understand confronting someone who leaves a dog in a car for a long time or on a hot day.. But this was in the evening and only for 5 minutes. It must be part of their training to just be as rude as possible to customers. I've never had such a bad experience at a grocery store in my whole life. read more

Mehuron's gets 2 stars instead of 1 because they carry a good selection of local products (word of advice: check the expiration dates). It's debatable as to whether or not it's worth putting up with the rude staff to get it though. Seriously, I don't understand how they have found this many rude people to work under one roof. It probably works to their advantage that there are only two grocery stores in town and the area receives a ton of tourist traffic during ski season (i.e. non-repeat clientele). Do yourself a favor and drive down the road to East Warren Market. It's smaller but they have much of the same, if not better stuff, and the staff don't feel the need to act as if your existence is an inconvenience to the world. read more

I have lived near Waitsfield for approximately 11 years and have shopped occasionally at Mehurans. Their produce is exceptional but the check out staff is terrible. I honestly don't know where they find these lowlife people who are so rude. I was once snapped at because I didn't put my carry basket in the right place. As a whole you can tell that they are there counting the minutes until they are off shift. Perhaps a different pay rate might attract a different type of person who is truly interested in customer service. read more

Mehuron's is by far the best option for groceries in the Mad River Valley. There's also a VT state liquor outlet inside the store. Mehuron's selection of wine is decent. Though it's not as good on the high end as another dedicated wine store in Waitsfield, it's certainly less expensive. Mehuron's is considerably larger than it seems from the outside. They have as good a selection of meat, produce and dry goods as you'll find locally, barring the farmers' markets, and a great dairy section. Only open until 6pm generally so shop early. read more

They have a good wine selection, and plenty of organic produce and meats. But I'm done with the place. We visit family here in the valley, so I've shopped at Mehurons for years, and every year the attitude gets worse. The cashiers are downright surly. Try putting your hand basket on the belt without unloading it fast enough to suit them. I'm surprised people don't get slapped. You also won't hear "thank you." Somehow, that's beneath them. I don't expect rose pedals thrown at my feet, but for the prices this place charges, you'd think they could hire people who can at least fake a polite attitude. Shaw's is across the street. The product selection isn't as fancy, but the people working there are very nice. read more

Mehurons has been here my entire life. Many of the staff as well. They know my whole family and are always so friendly, but it is a grocery store, so...about the food. Well, lots of produce options a fish monger and a butcher in store. A great beer and wine selection. Some household items, pet food and everything else you would expect a grocery store to have. And if you need some sort of obscure item ask one of the staff they probably have it somewhere and if not I'd bet they'd get it for you! read more
