Our friendly neighborhood Meijer! It serves the western parts of Bolingbrook and has a large grocery section

SUPERSTORE #169 If there's one thing this grocery giant has going for them, it's sheer convenience. Sitting in the southwest quadrant of the big intersection @ Boughton & Weber, this Meijer services the western parts of Bolingbrook (not to be confused with the eastern Bolingbrook Meijer, also on Boughton). There's some competition in nearby Jewel, ALDI and Target but Meijer gets the bulk of our business, since they have the most cold beer. A half dozen self-checkouts are perfect for quick trips; lines move quickly even when one of them is out-of-order. There's always someone monitoring these who are quick to step in and verify ID on alcohol purchases. Like Wal-Mart, Meijer has a greeter (sometimes two) that warmly welcome/thank you upon entering/leaving. The liquor aisles are solid, especially when it comes to beer and wine. Prices on domestics (Miller/Coors/Bud products) are something like $8-9 for a 12pk. Craft stuff (12pk of Revolution, 24pk Sam Adams seasonal) is closer to 1:1 pricing on cans and bottles which is about normal if not better. They've got plenty of hard seltzers plus fancy liquors and lots of mixers. Though we come here mostly for groceries, their men/women/kids clothing section takes up most of the store's space. There's an electronics department as well as a nice pet section stocked with dog toys, cat food, and live fish--for tanks, not cats. Pay attention for the big 'THANK YOU' painted on the ground near the Boughton exit closest to the airstrip, a fun touch as you're leaving the parking lot. Last time here, I wound up paying $4.59 for a gallon of milk! The sign on the glass refrigerator door said $3.49 (maybe $3.79 at the most) but it rang up completely different at checkout. Since we desperately needed milk and I wasn't feeling a separate trip for something cheaper, I groused and bought it. They definitely f*cked me on that one. * TL;DR * We like shopping at our friendly neighborhood Meijer. Nice employees, sensible store layout, and a great selection of items to boot. Every once in a while we'll run into a speedbump (price gouging on milk, self-checkouts not working) that makes me pine for Trader Joe's. Still, I'm grateful to have a superstore this close to us where we can buy everything from blueberries to Blu-Rays--and we come here A LOT. With nearly 1 visit per week, I anticipate racking up 100+ check-ins here by 2025.

Unfriendly staff. At checkout Amir M was on his phone the entire transaction. Now I remember why I never come to this location.

Wayyy too many fish in one tank- very high risk for disease, death, lack of oxygen, high stress, etc.

I don't usually write reviews for anything, but I just feel sad for the fish they keep here. During my visit, the fish tanks were literally filled to the brim with fish. This isn't healthy and is very sad as many of these fish probably die due to a lack of oxygen in the water. It seems like a waste of "product" (fish being sold) and I bet it makes other customers uncomfortable as well. These fish do not have room at all to live or breathe. I do not wish any harm on the business, I just hope they change this practice. Otherwise, my shopping experience was nice and the staff were friendly.

Prices are better than Jewel and I think they have more products available. Because nobody wants to run from store to store.

DA FAMILY JEWELS…read more This grocery giant is well-known in Chicago, but they're slowly pricing themselves out of the market. Now that Da Bears have entered hibernation - their magical football season having come to a bittersweet end - I can sit down and hammer out a few reviews I've been neglecting.  This Jewel Osco is at the northeast corner of Boughton & Weber Rd, next to a Panera Bread and Taco Dale (one of the best Mexican spots in Bolingbrook). Growing up, Jewel was my family's primary grocer -- I never even knew of Meijer or Mariano's existence until much later in life.  20 years on, I've got my own house and family and a budget that prohibits us from doing too much shopping here. The biggest issue I have is that Jewel's prices are higher across the board.  Sure, they carry some nicer specialty items (like champagne or caviar) that you can't find at ALDI, but for the basics like milk, bread, and eggs, there's zero reason to overspend. Dozen eggs @ Meijer = $2, dozen eggs @ Jewel = $5.50. 8ct hot dog buns @ Meijer = $1.59, 8ct hot dog buns @ Jewel = $2.79. A 15pk of Goose Island 312 was $16, and a 12pk of Green Line was also $16.  These were fair prices compared to the rest of the items in the beer fridge, and I'd expect to pay the same across the street. Good selection of domestic & imported brewskis. I had to wait a long time at self-checkout until an employee came by to verify my ID.  It didn't seem like they were fully staffed, and the staff that were working had no sense of urgency.  The aisles are usually well-stocked, however I've been here several times when the endcap displays are empty or nearly so. * TL;DR * Had I not been given an Albertson's gift card from work, I would have no need to shop at Jewel, quite honestly. Meijer has cheaper prices, a faster checkout process, and similar selection of goods.  ALDI has even cheaper prices and blazing-fast checkout, but a limited selection (this tradeoff is A-OK with me).  Don't even get me started on the bullsh*t racket a.k.a. the Monopoly game! What a ploy that thing is! The cost of groceries at Jewel doesn't match up with our bottom line, plain and simple.  I was thrilled to see Green Line in the beer fridge, and that saves them from 2-star ignominy.

I called customer service to report the incident because what kind of employees are you hiring? I feel Jewel hires a bunch of low vibrational people who display the absolute most disgusting behavior. The meatballs were delicious, the sauce actually was very good and I don't even like mushrooms at all. The second item I got was the meat filled dumplings, and those were really good. They were actually a lot better than I thought they would be. The third item I tried was the smoked Polish sausage. I will be honest, this was not my favorite. It was not bad, but the flavor on it I did not like as much as other Polish places I've tried. I definitely want to go back and try their cabbage and noodles and pigs in a blanket. They also have desserts that I will have to try as well. They do sell sandwiches, Chicago style hotdogs, and have a small grocery store inside.

However, this place is kind of tucked away so it wasn't busy at all in the afternoon. The outside of the building just says Deli. If you like Polish food, you'll love it here. I read some people exaggerating about the wait times. It does not take long for them to help you. Like Jewel or Mariano's, they're not going to slice your meat in 10 seconds if that's what you're hoping for. Btw the staff was nice. I think the Karen's that complain about them being rude are not very cultured and only know American culture. I ordered the signature pastrami sandwich for $10.99 and it was a very generous portion size. She put a ton of meat in it. The pastrami wasn't tough, it was fresh and soft. Honestly, I had Katz's in NY and this was a really great pastrami sandwich. I also got a large cannoli and meat pierogis. The cannoli was delicious. The pierogis were good but I like to have softer skin. The meat filling was fine but the outside was a bit too tough. I've been to a number of Polish restaurants and they usually make the skins very soft to cut. I would rate these pierogis like a 4. Overall, it's about a 4.5. Prices were very cheap. I got everything for $20. I will definitely return to try more items.

I go to the farm for pickup every week, and I love the variety, that I can pick and choose between over a dozen different herbs and veggies, the extras they often have, the UPick tomatoes and beans and etc. It's also such a relief to know where my food is coming from, that there are no chemical fertilizers or pesticides in it, that it's not downwind a feedlot so no chances of salmonella outbreaks in their leafy greens, that it hasn't been sprayed to ripen -- the peace of mind itself is invaluable. They have three seasons (spring, summer, and fall) that you can sign up for (that often sell out early, especially the summer season), as well as Thursday farmstands in the afternoon. Also, at the beginning of May they sell seedlings, with prices cheaper than The Growing Place, and most of the plants I buy from there thrive in my garden with no additions required (I put compost in the hole and around the base when I first plant them, mulch around the seedlings, and that's pretty much it, by mid-July I'm getting more tomatoes and basil and etc than I know what to do with).

CHEAP TRICKS…read more Decorating for Halloween can be expensive, but what've you got to lose when everything's $1? When we relocated to Bolingbrook, this effectively became 'our Dollar Tree'. It sits in the same strip mall as Best Buy and ALDI, in the northwest corner of Boughton & Weber. My wife is well acquainted with the bargains here and I'm slowly coming to the realization that not all seasonal decor has to be bought from Wayfair/Amazon/Spirit. The staff here have been much nicer than at other Dollar Trees, checkout is relatively fast (thanks to multiple open registers), and the store isn't a messy disaster like at so many other discount stores. On a trip in early September, we found a 5pk of plastic party syringes, glitter pumpkins, a skeleton bird, and creepy shotglasses. Supply of the really cool stuff goes quickly, so if you see something you like, don't hesitate to buy it. Remember: it's only a buck! Once in a while you'll gamble on a purchase and wind up with junk. Point in case: I'm not sure what I expected from a 99¢ box of orange twinkle lights, but it said "over 5ft!" on the package and when I took them out, almost half the strand was empty wire. It only had the male end of the plug, so connecting them end-to-end wasn't possible, either. Win some lose some, I guess. * TL;DR * Might this be the highest-rated Dollar Tree in the Chicago suburbs?? Public opinion seems to think so. Over the last few years, I'd spent a lot (too much, really) on lighting, animatronics and F/X for a holiday I barely got to enjoy. Being a homeowner is making me wiser, thankfully; I'm learning not to overpay for disposable party goods and other single-use items like outdoor cobwebs. So long as the quality is decent, I'm all for bargain hunting. Even if some of the products are lame, the good deals far outweigh the ripoffs. Don't do anything stupid like buy scallops or dairy at the Dollar Tree -- stick with your known commodities like sour gumballs, slim jims, greeting cards and gift bags.
