I remember when it opened years ago and was shiny and clean! The last time that I was there, after 9:00 p.m., several years ago, there were lines from the cashiers all the way back to the gates of Hades. No way was anybody in management going to open up a couple of more lines to make life better for the customers. Points off for that. There is a huge selection of every type of food and non-food that you can imagine. That's impressive. I believe that I even saw a pet department with fish! As echoed in other reviews, the personnel and clientele are on the trashy side. I have seen some fairly shady looking individuals and groups in the parking lot. I guess that the only thing missing is the surrounding trailer park. Save your time and head to the Jewel by the Home Run Inn pizza place. Open 24 hours is definitely going to earn Meijer's a star from me.......prices are only really good if there's a sale. Like when they have $2 Lean Cuisines, otherwise, they're more expensive here. Normal prices are typically $1 more than Super Walmart, regarding food as well as all other products I've noticed. I frequent both Meijer and Super Walmart on a regular basis---in fact, I haven't been to a Jewel or Dominick's or anything of that sort as far as I can remember........I would say that these stores definitely have better prices, and a lot more selection. I like how Meijer's has an authentic "world" foods section. The other day I bought a candy bar from Britain. LOL Seriously. I also sometimes find good deals on a few clothing items and toilettries here and there.......Meijer's has certain natural beauty products that I haven't seen at Walmart nor Target before. You just have to go to all those stores and look, and you'll find unique things at each place. I'm highly disappointed that Meijer's no longer sells guinea pigs though.....I miss seeing those little sillies! :0P I agree with Don M. that Meijer's roast chicken is great for the price---the lemon was most excellent, and I've been back for it. I also purchase Meijer's freshly made sandwiches on occassion. Meijer's was also selling liquor and til midnight before most Super Walmarts, but now they've jumped on the bandwagon as well. Meijer's has a larger collection of alcoholic beverages than all the Super Walmarts I've been to. Meijer's has self check-out lanes for unlimited items and 12 items or less, which is cool. Meijer's also has clearance aisles in which you can find great deals, but some are still not deals at all.........you just have to look. The self service kiosk required the person who was working there to key in approval of every item. The person there was friendly. It then double charged me for the $15 laundry detergent. They could not credit me for it there and I had to get in a long line at customer service to get my money back. Only one person working there. This should be looked at. I have been driving half hour to shop at this store for the past 20 years & the best thing I did was put am end to it. Thanks to the ignorant store greeter at the door on pharmacy side who hept harrassing mr for some reason. 'T' with the head scarf doesn't give you the right to disrespect customers who are just minding their own business. She accused me of shoplifting 'cos she obviously wasn't paying attention, stopped me with my return just to be nosey. The best part is I had to get a wipe for my cart for extra layer of protection having OCD. She approached me about this a couple of occassions to let me know carts were cleaned already & then watches over me. She thinks she owns the store, she was a security, bag & return police then a sanitary wipe hogger. I happily put an end to wasting my valuable time & money where store manager support their employees disrespecting & bullying seniors. He had similar problem himself. Terrible! I said I wouldn't shop here any more because Meijer always has so many expired products on their shelves and they are continuously out of milk and dairy. However, I needed shower curtain rod so I thought I would shop for my groceries and give it another try. Second time in one week more expired items and now moldy cheese in the cheese case next to the deli counter! You would think since the store is restocking and moving items during the remodel that they would at least check the dates before moving them to a new shelf. I had a horrible experience with a cashier here. I live in Chicago, and after visiting my parents in Naperville, thought I would stop by Meijer to pick up some alcohol and groceries before heading home. When checking out, the cashier asked for my ID for the alcohol and for the IDs of the two people behind me. They looked like teenagers, and we were all confused as to why she was asking for their IDs. She accused me of buying alcohol for minors. I can only assume she thought they were with me because they are "ethnic" like me. She then threatend to have me arrested and said there were cameras everywhere that would show I was purchasing a bottle of alcohol for minors. I pointed out my age on my ID and asked what the hell kind of loser would I be at 30 years old making friends with teenagers to buy them alcohol. Additionally, they weren't even the ethnicity as me (I guess we all look the same). I'm usually pretty passive about crappy service - especially at groceries and fast food places. I was halfway to Chicago and I was so upset, that I drove all the way back to Meijer to complain to the manager.. The person at customer service was super nice and really empathetic. When she called for the manager, he came and apologized, but I didn't think he would try and correct this cashier's behaviour. I did hear the other customer service rep tell her other colleague that it was the third time this cashier had done this to a minority. Otherwise, I like the selection of gluten free food and world food. My husband is from Germany, and he was so excited to see his favorite mustard stocked on the shelves in the German food section. read more

The girls wanted Meijer chicken for lunch and so it was. Not bad at all. Roasted chicken either BBQ or lemon. Pretty good stuff and not bad price 5.99 or at times 4.99 fills the afternoon void. Meijer has redesigned and refurbished the store on Weber in Bolingbrook! It's wonderful!! Spacious, super clean ( although it was always super clean)! Lots of selection and very helpful friendly employees! For a long time I avoided Meijer but they've won me back! Count me as a loyal customer. Sometime late at night when I'm feeling adventurous like Indiana Jones. I drive to this meijer to buy groceries and what not. The main difference between this one is that it's huge, but all of them are huge. And the front of the store is sort of decorated like a barn. Which is charming, they have most of all the normal sales that the other Meijer stores have. But one time earlier this year I found Chuck Taylor shoes for 12.50. Which is like stupid cheap. Because most of the time when Meijer has Chuck Taylor's on sale they were like 20 dollars I think, but this store had them for 12.50. Which is an freaking awesome deal. read more

Yikes is an understatement!! This place is poorly run and the staff really don't seem to give a crap about their job, or about customers. We came on a Monday night (11:30) for a couple small things. Since I was buying a DVD, we decided to look at Bluray players and was shocked to find a surround sound system for $150! Of course we put it in the cart. When we came up to the till, it was ringing in at $209, which is a lot more than we were willing to spend at this time, but we figured there was a mix up because we read the label on the shelf correctly!! It took them 20 MINUTES to tell us that it was "misplaced" and they can't do anything about it! Whatever. So we go home, and open up our roatating fan we purchased there, only to find all the screws missing, and the blades chopped right off!!!! Seriously!?! 3:30 am and we called the manager, who hardly bat an eye at it, just told us to bring it in and exchange it. So now I have to make an unessesary trip and waste gas to go exchange something that I don't even want anymore. This location has definitely lost our business for life. read more

The manager says too many people called off today. Perhaps paying employees a living wage will encourage better performance. I like Meijer; I prefer Meijer over Walmart, Kmart, or Target. I like it because I can get all of my grocery items, most automotive items, some pet items, and all of my baby food needs in one place. They have a toy section, an outdoor section, pharmacy, beauty, greeting card, etc, etc, etc. It's like Walmart, but less ghetto. There are always more check out lines open than at Walmart. Walmart is impossible late at night (which tends to be when I get my shopping done), and Meijer has plenty of self-check out lanes open, so I don't even have to deal with cashiers when I'm feeling all frumpy and rocking some pajama pants. The store is bright, but not headache inducing. The store rarely smells weird, except near the deli area (the fishy smell can be overpowering sometimes). My 2 biggest complaints: 1.) I had a severe issue with the changing table in the washroom near the entrance by pharmacy - my son was really little and needed to be changed. I placed him on the changing table and as I always do, I propped my knee underneath the table. Within seconds the table popped and flopped towards me! I think some heavy child must have sat on it and broke it. Had my knee not been underneath the table to catch him, my son could have easily wound up on the floor. I brought this to the attention of the store manager who told me it would be taken care of. Two weeks later, same problem. I continued to check and report it every single time I came into Meijer, even if I didn't have to change my son - I would still check it. A few times it had an "Out of Order" sign stuck to it, but other times that sign would be ripped and the table would still look functional. It took a LONG TIME for them to finally take down the old one and replace it with a new one. 2.) The produce always looks picked through. They just had a sale on strawberries and they were 5 for $5.00, great deal! Yea, except that by the time I was done sorting through them and throwing away the MOLDY and half-liquified ones, I was down to 2 & 2/3 of what I started out with. I had to throw so many of them outside for the birds and squirrels. Bonus for them, kinda crappy for me. I also picked up some avocados a few days ago, and they are already disgusting. The bananas are always fine, as are most of the melons. It just really seems to be the berries and more "exotic" fruits. And what's with the fruit flies! Bleh. My 2 biggest up-sides to Meijer: 1.) I absolutely LOVE the cashiers! Not all of them, there are a few rotten fruits up here, too (no, not a homophobic pun, so don't start with me, k?). For the most part, the cashiers are happy and upbeat, even if their personal lives are throwing them curve balls, they tend to not take it out on customers. They actually make you want to come back. They are patient and understanding. When someone comes in with WIC or LINK, they are nice, they don't make fun of them or rush them along. They treat everyone with respect, and even ask if you'd like help out to your car. 2.) The prices and the ease of returns. Man, sometimes returning something can be PAINFUL!!!! But not here. In, out, done. Voila. Room for Improvement: 1.) Music - let's hear some :) And change the playlist from time to time. 2.) When the red light on the self-checkout machine lights up, the attendant should respond quickly. I've seen some people get so pissed off they punch the machines and start yelling at other customers and employees. 3.) Your gas station should match prices (or beat prices) of other local gas stations. Monster Energy drinks are outrageously overpriced here! Yikes. 7-11, Speedway, and Food 4 Less often have 2 for $3 specials on Monster. read more

I love shopping here because it's 24 hours and mostly everything is clean and well organized. My one huge problem is with how the treat frozen food. They wheel out dozens and dozens of boxes of frozen food to be stocked and let it sit there for hours while they open one box at a time. By the time they get to that last box, it's been sitting there for several hours and is no longer frozen. I worked there ten years ago and that's how it's always been. read more

I was in a line waiting, then the cashier told me she was closing the line and I needed to find another lane. I have shopped at this store since it opened and have had mixed reviews. The latest two visits this week soured me on this location completely. First their concept of customer service, and people waiting in line, stinks. There must have been 50 people waiting for a self-serve register and there were only 2 regular registers open. I use the regular registers because something always rings up at the wrong price. So after waiting and checking out when I tried to enter my MPerks number the screen went blank and we had to start all over. The clerk audibly groaned and acted like I had sabotaged the whole transaction. The second time we needed French bread and all the bakery bread was stale. When we asked for fresh bread we were told by the clerk that the old stuff has to sell before she can put anything fresh out. A manager came by and told her to give us a fresh loaf. However when he walked away the clerk said we would have to wait at least 25 minutes for a loaf of bread. In my experience bad customer service starts at the top and filters down, I will drive the extra 10 minutes and go to the Plainfield store where I am always treated well. read more

Always clean, staff is always pleasant and helpful. The deli and bakery staff are well trained and seem to genuinely like helping customers. The butcher shop, seafood shop, and produce are always well stocked and appealing. I also like that they carry clothing in the same styles from XS to 3X and don't regulate +plus size women to a "special" section. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars is that I wish the specialty shops were open longer. I really hate shopping on Sunday because it's always crowded and the soda vendors don't to a very good job in keeping the Diet coke shelf stocked and I am a Southerner and NOT a Pepsi fan. I work nights starting at 3:30 p.m. and get off at 2:00 a.m. and stop in frequently and always feel completely safe in the parking lot. I've had to do a couple of returns without my receipt (imagine that) and they were able to pull it up by my CC # which I love! I hate keeping receipts because they are just basically clutter. read more

As I was in the store to just purchase a pair of yogas. There was not many to choose from. As I was looking around I thought well if I couldn't find any I'll look for a pair of jeans. Found a pair I thought I would like, and proceeded to find a fitting room. As I found one, the door was locked, I went to the other side to try to see if the other door was open. And it said "Door Broken" went to look for someone to see if they could open that door for me and I could not find anyone for the longest time. Now reminding you this was at 11pm. I'm tired I just wanted to try it on. I was getting so frustrated due to the fact that one door was broken, the other was locked and had a sign on that one saying times on it. And the other was that I couldn't find anyone around. I don't shop at this store much at all, but I will never come back here. So disappointed in how you sell clothes but are not a loud to try anything on at a certain point during the night. read more

I told her I wanted to check myself out because of the virus, she says well the stockers touch your things! I said well I don't have very many I won't take long do you mind she says no, I'm going to get security she was very rude!! all I wanted to do is purchase my items.I was not stealing .I was not hoarding .I only wanted to purchase the items so that I could take them home to my family. She called security she left the cash register down so that I could not check myself out she was rude I will not go back to that Meijer any more! read more

Their "live" pet fish dept. Is animal cruelty and neglect in action. I snapped these photos last night. One tank full of parrot cichlids were very sick and clearly dying. There was even a partially eaten fish corpse that looked like it had been there a while. Another tank of pictus catfish had very heavy ich parasite infestation. I finally managed to get a store employee to come and help me. I told her the above information, pointing out the sick, dying and dead fish. She then said (no lie) "so you're not getting any fish today?" I told her those fish were diseased and dying and I'd have to be a blooming idiot to buy any fish out of these tanks. I went to customer service and told them they had about $60-$70 worth of fish who'd be dead and in the trash before xmas if they didn't do something. That got their attention. They summoned the kid in charge of the fish (not the first clerk I talked to). I explained all this to him and his general attitude was "yes, the cichlids and catfish are sick and dying. And your point is?" By contrast, I've been in the Boughton Road Meijer several times (just down the road) and I've always found their fish and display tanks in excellent condition. I keep 12 aquariums, the largest of which is 75 gallons, so I know what I'm talking about. read more

Since I grew up in Michigan I have shopped at a Meijer's most of my life and this one is the worst. The deli line is always slow -guaranteed 15-30 minute wait no matter when you go. I noticed they have removed the clock from the wall in the area so you know they are aware of the problem. Their inventory control is horrible. I double check every dairy item for the expiration date as most of the time you have 1-2 days to drink a gallon of milk. Yogurt is even worse. I actually talked to the dairy manager and he apologized but a few weeks later most of the yogurt was again past or really close (like one day) from the date on the item. One experience I had was with chicken broth-in May I found a broth container which had the expiration date of Nov of the previous year. After giving the item to a employee and pointing out the expired date, I was surprised two weeks later to see the same box back on the shelf. I also find that I have to check the hanging price tickets on items as sometimes the sale is not exactly a sale. Today I found blocks of cheese advertised 2 for $5. But when I lifted up the "sale" ticket I found that the cheese was normally priced at $2.39! It is not the first time I have found these "special"deals on items and realize that the only deal is for the store. Goodbye Meijer and hello Mariano's and Jewel. read more

Check-out is beginning to be horrible. All those lanes and only one lane open at 5 pm on a Tuesday night. Six customers in line and I asked at the service desk if they could open another lane. Sorry corporate has cut our cashiers hours and we can't open another lane!! Is it the store manager who decides how many cashiers are working? Started shopping here when they first opened. Their prices were so much less than Jewel. Although my heart belongs to Jewel for many reasons I just couldn't afford to shop there. The store is short staffed and they definitely don't order stock like jewel does. Every time I go for a sale I feel they are out of some of the things I wanted. It's so frustrating. They don't order enough stock. Their meat is ok but not the best. Staff is friendly but not like jewel which has a warmer feeling. Check out is a nightmare. Any store should place importance on moving customers through quickly and efficiently. No one likes to wait in line. If there are more than a certain amount of people in a line then they should open up a new one. If they don't have the staff then that's a problem. Also cashiers need to get a little more pep in their step. Some ring up,bag and check me out so quickly and others are half asleep. It's crazy. It's overall a decent store but they lack the warmth and customer service that jewel provides. Not as clean as s jewel either. read more

I will never shop at this Meijer location again based upon the phone call I had with a manager there yesterday morning. I am a college student and a member of mPerks. Because I shop at Meijer often, I chose to my research project on the company for my management information systems course. I was constructed to do part of my research by visiting/calling a store and asking a manager a few questions based on class material. When I first called and made my request, they hung up on me. When I called for the second time, I was directed to someone who right off the bat was irritated with my request. I continued asking questions based on store operations and he refused to answer most of them based on privacy reason, which I totally understand (even though they were basic questions). However, the way I was denied was extremely rude. There came a point where I was trying to explain my reasoning for asking the questions and he either interrupted me or entirely spoke over me aggressively. I was hardly able to finish a sentence. When I tried explaining that my teacher instructed us to retain some research this way, he said "well teachers don't always know everything." I feel there was a much better approach he could have taken when explaining why some questions couldn't be answered, instead of having a constant defensive attitude. He also missed out on a free marketing opportunity. All of my classmates retained research in the same manner and received excellent feedback from other companies. As a manager, I feel you should be much more willing to nourish a students knowledge on the company you work for instead of treating them like a nuisance. Very, very poor customer service. read more

The prices on the shelf are actually a joke, they dont always match the checkout prices. The store has no responsibility to have accurate pricing and Bolingbrook is so disjointed to police a scam like this.
