Von Maur is beautiful, complete with a piano player in the middle of the store, and specializes in high-end clothing, shoes and customer service. I've visited several times since its opening in Louisville and it's always emmaculate. My primary purpose for visiting is the shoe department. I learned long ago that spending more money on your shoes meant a better fit and the ability to work a 12 hr day without crying over foot pain. Von Maur offers a huge variety of designer names and styles. It also has a small room of discounted shoes behind the check-out counter, which is always worth checking out. Clothing-wise I don't spot as much variety or personality. I can often find the same brands and styles at other stores, and at a lower price. read more

I personally enjoy shopping Von Maur for name brand items that I know will not vary in price. The store is nicely appointed and the staff welcoming, courteous and efficient. The Live Piano Music in this Store sets an Ambiance that is just so classy and a throwback to when the world seemed to have time to enjoy the truly simple things in life! I didn't realize at first that it was actual live piano music being played on a Baby Grand Piano! WHAT A TREAT! This 5 Star Rating is mostly for the people that work in the shoe department. Every single one of them spoke to me, offered assistance, was professional, kind and courteous! They tried so hard to find me a Size 5 ladies Black Bootie for Fall and Winter. I am super impressed with Von Maur. You know, I have never shopped here before because I THOUGHT it was too expensive. My sister and I needed dresses for a gala and someone suggested we look here because she had great success here. My sister went a little before me and had some ready for me to try on when I got there. I was pleasantly surprised to have many options in my size. I'm not thin. I wear what is considered a plus size and Von Maur didn't label me Plus Size. We did shop primarily from the clearance rack, but there were several dress options throughout. There store was neat and clean. I did not feel crowded. I felt like I could see what I needed without having to push through racks and people. The dressing room attendant was overly joyous. I'm sorry I don't remember her name. She was willing to get different sizes. She was complimentary and she seemed to truly enjoy her job. She was sure to share that Von Maur would alter the dresses if needed and press them as well. This was either a small fee or no fee. I can't remember but I know it was worth it! I tried to go to another store during this process to check for a dress and it was crowded and they didn't have my size and it was labeled plus size. Not to mention, they didn't really carry many plus size. Von Maur was so much better!!!!! I wasted my time going somewhere else! Von maur is the classiest store in Louisville & I always have good experiences with the employees. This last time I was shopping there for a derby outfit, Malia was extra helpful. She kept me updated on a particular romper I wanted that someone had on hold & let me know when the woman didn't come back for it. She then called me so I could purchase it & shipped it to my house with a handwritten note. Absolutely ADORE this store. I had never known about this store until I moved to Louisville, I primarily shop at Von Maur now. I read some of the reviews stating the staff was rude-the reviewer must have been the rude person or insecure because the staff at Von Maur makes everyone feel welcomed and like royalty. You will never go more than 10 steps without someone asking if you need help or sizes or what are you looking for. You will need to be willing to spend some money here, but I expect that when you have a store with such high quality brands. Their shoe department is fabulous! They even have a room dedicated to clearance shoes and it is arranged by size-makes it very easy to shop. They carry most shoes brands: Michael Kors, Frye, Jessica Simpson...all the ones you would expect that I cannot seem to think of right now. Their clothes are arranged by brand so if you love Tommy Bahama, they have all his clothes together. All regular priced clothes are on square shaped racks and all clearance clothes for that particular brand will be on round type racks. So easy-even for people who hate to shop they make it so simple. Now let's get to the important department-WOMEN'S! It is located on the 2nd floor and the entire floor is dedicated to women/junior women/plus size women. It is a wonderful floor, as you get off the escalator you hear the "Ahhhhhhh" of the pearly gates opening :) They have an ample amount of fitting rooms with mirrors in every room and then a large showcase mirror like you would find in a wedding store so you can see every angle. They also have lounge chairs for people to sit and watch you work your magic down the "runway" The racks and areas are set up the same as the male selection on the 1st floor. You are able to return items a year later if the tag is still on it and you have the receipt, another great bonus. The first floor houses shoes, make-up, perfume, kid's clothes, men's clothes and I believe jewelry. As you walk in the first floor entrance you hear a piano playing on most days, the cutest senior lady is playing-yes they have an actual lady playing the piano while you shop. Visited the new Von Maur at West Towne Mall in Madison, WI. A beautiful store love the dark woodwork. A pianist was playing a baby grand --so relaxing! No one greeted us or asked if we needed help finding anything. The prices are HIGH!!! Designer brands if that's what you're looking for. I'm retired so usually only wear athleisure wear now. I didn't see anything I was interested in even trying on. They did have a couple sale racks but the clothes weren't my style. They were loud flowery blouses and such. I'd rather spend my disposable income on travel and high end resorts rather than expensive clothes and shoes but hey, if that's what you want to do go for it. You might find some pieces to add to your wardrobe. read more

I love this store! They have a great men's shoe section and while I know I should go to the online realtor I like the help I get here, trying on the shoes, and the selection. The woman who works in shoes should wear a cape, she's that good. The men's section is fantastic, offers tailoring services, and has everything from formal wear to informal things. Everything is high quality. The children's section has fantastic deals and a clearance rack that makes my heart sing. As America's Crabby Jewish Uncle (t) (SHUT UP, BERNIE SANDERS) this is a wonderful place for me to get a really nice gift without breaking the bank. First of all VM is a beautiful store! It is almost art gallery-like. The displays are super creative with striking colors and vivid fabrics. I was however a little disappointed recently when I visited to buy a set of sheets and found they did not have a bedding department. It's a little cove in the store that you can go in and have a ball looking for that perfect pair of heels at the perfect price. Sometimes it can be pretty messy, but that's what happens when you have $250 at more than half off and women in a frenzy trying to find them! If you're a lover a fashion like me, and don't mind looking through lots of high-priced labels just to find that one dress that fits your budget and style, you'll probably like this store as well. If there are any other lovers of classic British television series, this store is the contemporary American reincarnation of "Are You Being Served?" Captain Peacock would be proud. I draw this comparison because Von Maur provides the most impeccable customer service I have ever witnessed in a retail setting. It is all the little things that make the difference- free bottled water upon request, the spotless bathrooms with premium toiletries, and the business attire dress of code of the associates. (There are Huggies wipes near the diaper changing station in the family bathroom!) Here are a few of the big things that make Von Maur my absolute favorite store. 1. Options. I wear a size 16. I am also in my mid 20s. I do not want to wear clothes that age me by 20 years or hang on me like a tent. I enjoy wearing form flattering, bright/patterned styles that make me feel good about my body. Von Maur always delivers. I typically buy a new dress once a month from the Contemporary or Petite Department. There is also a phenomenal selection of larger cup size bras, lingerie, and intimates. The Juniors Department also carries a decent amount of larger sizes when I am looking for an outfit outside of my usual business casual attire. The options continue even post purchase as all items can be returned at any time. 2. It is the best place to buy a gift. The Gifts Department is my first stop for a birthday or wedding gift. If you are looking for a designer gift such as Kate Spade or Lilly Pulitzer, this department carries the wedding collections. One can also find great stationary, home goods, crystal, and artwork. Any item in the store can be gift wrapped and even shipped anywhere in the domestic USA for free by Customer Service. By taking advantage of this service, I have saved a ton of money & have been able to surprise my loved ones across the country. 3. SALE RACKS This is what got me addicted to Von Maur. Every Wednesday is mark down day. I have seen people line up to wait for the gate to be lifted at opening time. If an item stays in the store long enough, it will be marked down in increments of 25%, 50% and finally 75%. All clothing racks that hold sale items are rounded at the top, and therefore, I try to only pay attention to these racks. I hate when I fall in love with a top on a standard rack that costs $250 so I just navigate around those to focus on the tops that end up being $7 with the sale. Priorities, people! 4. The Shoe Room This deserves its own paragraph as this is the shoes department's equivalent to sale racks. The shoe room is located on the back wall behind the cash registers when one enters the main entrance from Oxmoor Mall. The display racks are organized by shoe sizes 6-11. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will take the time to provide additional sizes, styles, and suggestions to help find the perfect shoe. I snagged a brand new pair of Kate Spade pumps for around 80 bucks compared to over $300 by digging through that room. I could go on for pages more of why I love this store. This store isn't found in WNY and I am not sure that's a good or bad thing. I normally only enter this place when I'm with a colleague of mine who has a shoe fetish. She always needs to go inside these stores to look, but so far she has never purchased a pair of shoes. The staff were friendly enough - almost too friendly if that's possible, but the prices for me seemed steep - even in the show clearance room - those prices at clearance were still too high - maybe sale, but clearance normally means drastically reduces! Bought a suit here for over $500 a year ago. I wore it twice, and when I took it out of the bag to wear agin I noticed a hole in the lapel. I took it back to be repaired or replaced. The manager of the men's section first accused me of burning it with a cigarette (I don't smoke nor does any of my family), and then said there was nothing he could or would do about it. Rudest customer service I've ever seen in the women's shoes department. I went in there to see Sam Edelman shoes. They didn't have very many selections so I was trying on some ugg boots. The lady seemed nice at first. She asked me if I wanted to try in a new pair of the boots for purchase. I said "I'll think about it," then she bolted away. On top of all that, whenever she saw me around the area, she would just turn around and pretend to not see me.. And whisper things to the other employee. I am getting married in a month and needed a foundation garment for the big day. To complicate matters, I'll be 6 months pregnant when I walk down the aisle and I am growing. My mom and I went to the lingerie department to look at bustiers. We quickly determined they wouldn't work because my bump hangs out the bottom and it was very uncomfortable. Margie asked if she could assist. Once she saw the dilemma she grabbed a Spanx body briefer. That thing is a miracle. Margie helped me get it fastened in the back and was a complete professional. I thought I might be self conscious having someone assist me with buying undergarments, but she made sure it fit properly and I was comfortable. I know I will feel more confident on my wedding day because of the garment we bought and especially thanks to Margie's excellent customer service. We purchased a few other items and were able to get them gift wrapped for free while we shopped. I commented to another employee how friendly the staff was and she said it was a wonderful place to work!
