Nice selection of items, like the grocery section and especially the produce. But I AVOID shopping at this location because of long lines at the self check and only 2 or 3 (out of maybe 20 lanes) of checkout folks. They NEVER EVER EVER have enough personnel. Was there recently and there were no shopping carts available; had to go back to the parking lot to get one. Then most of the self checkout lanes were out of order! So I then left in disgust after seeing the long checkout lines. (Going there off hours doesn't always help because the shelves may not be stocked.) They are obviously saving lots of $$ by not hiring sufficient staff, and probably don't even care about the LONG checkout lines. Be prepared for a frustrating shopping experience. read more

This Meijer was built fairly recently, and is a great place to come at any hour of the day. In fact, the last time I came here was around 3am to get Brownie mix for this picnic the next day. The crazy thing was that the place actually had a lot of people in there at that time of night. I still have to get used to the layout, but I was pretty much able to find what I wanted with ease. One thing I love about most Meijer's is that they also carry beauty supplies, clothes, appliances, etc. This could be a one-stop destination, especially during some holidays when you need to buy place mats, decorations AND food. read more

I seen cleaner bathrooms at the county fairs portable outhouse!! Used feminine products everywhere, poopy baby diaper on the ground, pee on the seats, shredded paper towel all over floor. When I told an employee she had attitude. Also another customer told me she was there a week prior and the bathrooms were in the same shape. The customer service at the subway inside this meijer was a joke as well. Every time I asked for a topping the girl grabbed a few pieces the amount a bird would eat, threw it on the sandwhich and put her hand on her hip until I told her the next topping I wanted. There was literally 2 pickles on my sub. When I asked for more she seemed annoyed. She never greeted me in line and at checkout she didn't say a word... just hand on the hip again waiting for me to pay. read more

Coming in here at 9 o'clock on Mother's Day morning. Lines are long exactly 3 registers are open. I walk to the other side of the store to get into the self scan section and they said it was close and set me back to the other side and told me to stand in line like everybody else. Don't waste your time. I stopped in and grabbed a few things and proceeded to the self-checkout and waited several minutes. At 11:47, I and other people were told to head to other registers. The woman working the self-checkout was manually shutting down the self-checkouts claiming they'd automatically shut down at midnight. I would have easily paid and been gone by 11:50 so I don't see how midnight was relevant. The other registers all had lines. I left my items in the line and went to Kroger. Better experience. I go to the Southfield Meijer because it is close to my work. My biggest complaints are that A) More times than not, there are no carts available or baskets. B)They are ALWAYS out of everything and it takes an eternity for them to restock. I went there once to get a few basic things. All 3 of the items I needed were out of stock. I went back about 4 days later and the shelves looked exactly the same, out of order and those peticular items still out of stock, repeat a week later STILL. It looked as though the shelves had not been touched by an employee in days. I have experienced this during multiple trips to this Meijer. Also i feel as though the greeters greet who they like to and dont greet others. I have a few coworkers who will by no means visit this location for the reasons above. read more

They should just shut this store. Filthy, poorly staffed with slow workers. Lines are always long. I try not to go but it is right on my way home and sells liquid pool chlorine. Every visit reminds me why I dont go to meijers. It is sunday morning peak shopping time and they have about one quarter as many check out lines as they need open. u can pretty much find everything u need here when u go food shopping and it's open 24hrs which is a bonus. fruits and veggies sometimes u gotta pick though to find the good ones and i never get meat of fish there i save that for higher end stores but the basic food i'll get along with home good like paper towels and soaps. i don't only shop here i always hit Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Plum Market for other things as well but if i had to only hit one store it would be Meijer since they have it all read more

This place has a good selection- however this particular store has some people floating around it that I'd prefer to avoid. Today, I was cornered by this very angry man asking for money. A girlfriend of mine has been followed to her car by a strange character at this store. It seems like every time I go to this store someone mildly harasses me. I rarely shop at Meijer, even though I don't live too far from the store. Recently, I went in to mail a letter, Certified, Return Receipt at their little Post Office. I've gone there before and they had shorter lines than US Post Offices. Today, they had a fairly long line. I know that's not their fault. But, when I showed the employee the letter and the paperwork (which I had thoughtfully filled out at home) she had to "Get her Manager" because she didn't know how to handle a Certified letter or she didn't know the price. Are you KIDDING Me?? What's Worse, it took at Least Twenty minutes for the manager to get there and help me. I noticed signs that they are "making improvements." I wonder if they will Ever improve the problems that we all complain about here. Maybe if we Boycott all the chain restaurants, they can train the millions of laid off employees to staff the twenty(!) empty cash registers at the surviving Kmarts and This Meijer. Terrible experience from the start! I called ahead to see if a product was available. The customer service rep said it was in stock on the inventory system and that they would transfer me to the department to double check. After getting disconnected 5 times on my way to the location I told the customer service rep (Brenda) what had happened a d to stop transferring me and to just check. She said she couldn't and that she would get a hold of someone before transferring me. Needless to say I never talked to anyone from the department. I got to the store and once I arrived in the department there was 1 employee there and after asking him about the issue with the phone he claimed that no one was scheduled to be running the electronics department. Then to top it off they were out of the product I called about. I asked him to look up surrounding meijer to see if they had it in stock and he claimed he didn't have the authority to do that and to go to customer service. Big mistake! Zalina or Serena not sure about her name as her nametag was backwards and covered by her hair said she couldn't do it either since she didn't have a sku number. I had just talked to someone from customer service on the phone who did it without the sku number but she couldn't. She also complained about the employee in the electronics department telling me to go see her. She said they always send people her way and ahe doesn't understand why. Shes CUSTOMER SERVICE thats why! I wasted over an hour of my time and gas all for nothing when I could of just been given accurate info over the phone. Purchased a turkey for thanksgiving and was informed by cashier that she was tired of picking up turkeys and it was up- to me (a female in my late 60s.) to pick up the 19lb turkey after I purchased it and put into the basket. I did not realize her being tired was the customers problem. The second item needed a price check. She asked me for it. I asked if they had baggers or someone to help and she said no. I came from an industry that this person would be fired on the spot. JUST AWFUL! read more

The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is that there is room for improvement (as in any big box store). Shopping on Mondays is a bust because the shelves are emptied over the weekend and not restocked until Tuesdays! Otherwise, the store is more than adequate for most of my shopping needs. read more

I hate HATE this Meijer. No matter what it is I am shopping for, I can promise you it is not stocked and that area of the shelf is completely empty. I'm not sure why this store has such an issue keeping items stocked, but in this area they have failed miserably. Every time I ask an associate if they have more of that item in back they look at the empty shelf, look back at me, and say "we're all out". Yeah... I'm not an idiot. Thanks for pointing out the empty shelf space with your glaring annoyed eyes, lazy Meijer associate. Maybe you should slam a Red Bull and please start stocking your diapers, toothpaste, granola bars, coffee, juice, shoes, socks, toddler underwear, shampoo, and every other various item that has a designated shelf space in your store but is not currently occupying it. OMG!!!! This could quite possibly be the very worst meijer store, ANYWHERE. this store has always been a train wreck, but now with their remodel in progress, it's seriously like a punishment to have to shop there. absolutely no "rhyme or reason" to the organization, I found the orange juice in automotive, bread in the paint department, and so on. The entire store smelled like paint fumes (or similar) so bad that I had to sit in my car for 15 minutes before I drove home because I felt too "high" to drive. during this unforgettable shopping experience, I walked past 3 different groups of about 5 or 6 meijer employees standing around in isles talking about who's high school achievements were more gangster than the others, emphasized with just about every $@%# word you could imagine. The list of disappointments is a list longer than I'd like to write, or anyone would probably care to read. I've never written a "review" on a store before, but this place just blew my mind, and I felt it was my duty as decent citizen to try and sway as many people from walking into the meijer store at 12 mile & telegraph. if the next closest meijer store is under 20 miles from you, go there. read more
