Meijer Vanilla Sprinkled Doughnut: Although there are plenty of specialty doughnuts that I enjoy more, my favorite type of "basic" doughnut is a vanilla iced sprinkle yeast/raised doughnut. For a grocery store bakery, I've been pretty impressed with the doughnuts at my local Meijer (although the selection is sadly wildly inconsistent). I was immediately drawn to this doughnut by the beautiful blue sprinkles teeming on the surface, which also added a pleasant crunch to the doughnut. I found the dough to have a nice thick and chewy texture while also being light and pillowy. The flavor was a combination of butter in the body of the dough, along with vanilla from the frosting and general sweetness from the massive number of sprinkles on top. I've been to this Wauwatosa location maybe 2 or 3 times and it was about 6-7 years ago. That last visit the store wasn't like the first two visits. The floors were so dirty, rugs were dirty and weren't laying flat on the floor so it was creating a tripping hazard. The produce section looked disgusting, everything over there was rotten. I turned right around and left to go to the Sussex location, different experience, different grade of customers shopping there. Stood in line on a Saturday (today) with only two actual check outs open. After putting my items on the belt, the associate said she can't check me out because she is a minor and can't sell liquor. So I'm expected to load my stuff up and go stand in line again. When I asked why there wasn't a sign or something in place with this information, she merely shrugged. Lots of positives here, but the pharmacy bends over backwards to find ways to save money for their customers. I'll admit that for awhile I transferred some prescriptions to Optum Rx, UHC's home delivery service, and did I ever regret it! Unresponsive, rigid, expensive...I was relieved to switch back to Meijer's Oak Creek store. They are still working out a couple of kinks for using OTC benefits in the actual pharmacy. Those purchases still need to checked out at regular store registers, but they are quite aware of this problem and the staff tells me they hope they will resolve it soon. A little bonus if you are on a tight budget for groceries is the FlashFoods area, where you can find some crazy bargains and mixed produce boxes for greatly reduced prices. read more

Shop here long enough and you can certainly find bargains. Probably though when it comes to some of the fruits and vegetables they may not be fresh. Once I bought a pitaya there and it was spoiled. I feel pretty certain though that if I took it back they give me a refund I just didn't have the time to take it back. One of the worst grocery stores that I have ever been to. Who manages this place?!?!? I have been to other Meijer locations that have been great. This particular store is always out of stock on at least 1/3 of what I came in for (I am not exaggerating). Their produce is almost always long in the tooth. I was really excited when Meijer came to town, as I appreciated their underdog status compared to the Targets of the world. I had visited some of their stores in other states and was looking forward to their presence as I expected it to cause other retailers to step up their game. Sadly, Target has nothing to fear. This Meijer store is not going to cause anyone to stop visiting Target. The store overall is in decent shape, though I don't understand why pallets need to be staged directly in front of merchandise endcaps; I almost didn't see the tortillas I was specifically looking for because of a pallet of merchandise six feet high was partially blocking them. Also disappointing is that you can spend 30 minutes here and not have a single interaction with any employee. If you do, they go about their work without acknowledging you in the slightest. To me this is a combination of a lack of staffing (not enough employees means that everyone is trying to rush through their work and feels as though they can't afford to interact with customers, the very reason for their job's existence) and a lack of training from above; if customer interactions aren't prioritized by management, why should the front line care? read more

Old Fred Meijer must be rolling in his grave at this store in Brookfield on 11111 W Burleigh St Wauwatosa, WI. No dressing rooms and only 1 checkout open . Employees having a great time talking to each other and walking around and ignoring customers and they ALL must really hate their jobs and hate customers because they never smile and are just rude and talk to you like you are stupid. The staff here have always been helpful and patient. The biggest downside is probably just the amount of people that shop here. It's difficult to distance sometimes. They frequently have great sales/coupons and some great products you can't find in the area, but I always appreciate the staff and definitely the nice greeters! read more

This is a good all purpose store. They carry groceries, clothing, and home items. It's certainly one to consider for a one-stop shop when you need a little bit of everything done in a short time. I was focused on the grocery section, where I found some interesting and less common items. I left with white asparagus and a small container of Hollandaise sauce that made for a real treat. It feels a little odd to review a grocery store, but with so many grocery options out there nowadays I feel like it might really help! I actually really love this Meijer store - it's always clean and has a great selection of products. There's a few other grocery options in this area and Meijer always has the best produce hands down. I'll make a separate trip just to go to this Meijer for produce. The employees here are super helpful, when you can find one. Sometimes it takes a little bit to track one down. My only major gripe about this Meijer is that they never have enough checkout lanes open. I don't know why you have almost 30 checkout lanes when only 3-4 of them are open at any given time. There are self-checkout stations on either end of the store which I appreciate, but those lines can get insanely long as well. I'm glad this Meijer is nearby and I do enjoy visiting it. They Sold hot dogs that had been recalled. Should not have sold after they were recalled. before leaving the store went to customer service for refund. They scanned them and said oh these are on recall. big hassle getting refund. This Store often sells Expired Food. You have to check the date on every item . If you don't you will be eating expired food. Food has expiration dates on it for a reason. Finally a better experience than some of my last ones and maybe some redemption for my past experiences. First off all of the weekly add sale items were actually on the shelf and the check out lines were far better and easier to get out of place. Looking over the weekly flyer I noticed the 8 piece fried chicken for $5.99 and thinking of how KFC has an 8 piece with cheap sides for around $20 out the door I would try it, it sounds like a deal I thought and I didn't want any sides anyway. I ordered the 8 piece and I was told they were out of wings and legs so they would have to give me thighs instead, thighs are my favorite so what a big win for me. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with a not to bad coating to my surprise. I know that consistency with lay around can be challenging so I might have got it at the right time and next time it could be dried out like Walmarts I stopped buying long ago. This will not replace anyone's favorite fried chicken place but value vs quality it is definitely a decent option for grab and go fried chicken while at the food store and I would get it again. I don't know why I didn't try it sooner because it's not bad at all. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Just horrible customer service, it goes beyond neglect or lack of competence. Staff are rude, sarcastic, and as others have said they talk down to you like you're stupid. I needed an erroneous credit card charge reversed and made two separate return trips to the store with promises the customer service staff was aware of the issue and could fix it if I showed up in person. I have used this service for grocery delivery and never plan to use them again. I did not receive about 15 dollars' worth of my groceries, spent quite a lot of time reporting, and asking for a refund. Would you believe they won't refund me; they gave me coupons!!!! Yes, coupons to use on my next visit. As if there will be another visit. I am crazy upset. And try to call their so called "Customer Care" I gave up after about a half an hour being on hold which is what they want anyone to do, I am sure. I was just in this store at 9:00am on Sunday, November 29th, 2020. Will not be back. I have shopped in this store for over a year because it is close to home. The last 8 times I have been in this store the check out clerks have been nothing short of rude, slow, and ill-trained. I get the Covid-19 situation has impacted everyone, but last time I checked, Meijer's was a retail business with lots of competition. I went yesterday. Never going back. Horrible trip. Whatever workers were visible to customers were 2 kids packing orders. If they moved any slower, that food would be spoiled by pickup. Most items on my list were in the Meijer add,but not in the store. I did not see one friendly employee face. The only employees to be seen were at checkout or sitting at the entrances. My cashier never acknowledged me. I've been going to this store since they opened but now I'm done. I'll be doing my grocery shopping at Woodman's and Costco. I recently ordered a a set of TV trays through their app w/ my $10 off coupon when I spend $50 & free curbside pickup. We were excited since we wanted to use them for the holidays & birthdays coming up. I schedule my curbside pickup for Sat Dec 19 between 11-12p; the email says text your info & your order will be brought to you( well this did not happen at all). I waited over 15 minutes for someone to come out & no one never showed up, then I called customer service (no one picked up) so I went inside because hey it's the holiday season & I know they are busy. I stayed in line for customer service because that's where I thought customer's would go for their orders to find out they have a section by produce & u have to wait for someone to come from the back to get your order. An employee walked me the section to come to find out; another employee said I did not get a chance to call you & we do not have this item in store at all. I was confused & upset because I told Tina the manager how do your store have an item available to order via online/app & your store do not have it available & all she can say is she do not know & do not know when it will available. I was so disappointed by the service; I told her to cancel my order & was told my confirmation would be emailed to me. Any store I have ordered from let's you know if an item is available at which location & where to go for curbside pickup. In there today, only reason I went was to pick up ice cream cause the grocer across the street was out. As I walked in there were posters all over the doors that said If YOU ARE SICK PLEASE DO NOT ENTER OUR STORE! In self check out a young 20 something employee was sick! She was holding a used tissue and sneezing with no gloves on. She had a used tissue in her hand and one was on the desk she stands behind to watch customers. Then she walked over to were I was about to check out and touched my plastic bags, she opened them to prepare them for my purchases. Not only did she get to close to me but she was wiping her nose with that tissue and touching the plastic bags that I was about to use?? So I called - its a 1800 customer service bank that decides if your complaint is worthy to speak with a manager. The lady took my complaint seriously. She transferred me to the stores Director. I Told the Director my experience. He just blew me off. He knew of the employee I was speaking of and said to me, "oh, she is sick??" Dude, she has used tissues all over the place and NOT wearing any gloves or even practicing social distancing. DISGUSTING!! Here's what I will say - this Meijer is an exception to the Meijer in Sussex, Oak Creek and West Bend I have visited. This is the closet 'discount big box store' close to my home, so despite my utter distain I find myself here more than I'd like. The story is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, under stocked. Empty shelves are a common theme for sale items. They have an app that allows greater discounting, but these items are typically out of stock. The store seems to be disorganized and out of sorts as well. AND the worst part - the employees are absolutely useless if you can even find one. They're unwelcoming, act like helping you is a huge inconvenience and are down right rude. I wish I could avoid this place altogether, but it's cheaper than Pick N Save, Sendiks or Metcalfes - I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I'll give you that I didn't see a huge gapping grocery store hole in this area when this place was being built. ...there's already several pick n saves, piggly, whole foods, aldi, target, etc etc. But Meijer offers both home goods and groceries...so more like a walmart or target. problem with home goods and grocery store concept-- the place is huge! It also felt too dimly lit for some reason...i had trouble reading the signs and felt like I was constantly on tippy toes trying to read signage. And why oh why did I have to trek through bedding, baby furniture, kitchen goods, etc to get to the groceries? I'm imaging the idea is you will suddenly see some sort of home good that catches your eye on the way to the pasta sauce, paper towel and kitty litter. I almost fell for your clever ways, Meijer, but I stuck to my guns, and once I got to the groceries I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and selection. I didn't do a whole lot of shopping but just about every item I price checked was on par or lower than pns/target/walmart. Unfortunately there were some bare spots where popular products needed to be refilled but overall I didn't find it horrible. When you check out, the screen you use for your credit card transaction asks you something like ''was your cashier pleasant and helpful today?" Mine was and I checked out quickly without issue. I think this store has a wide variety of groceries and also excellent customer service. This is a typical but huge one stop shop, supermarket. The pure convenience is extremely nice and is one of the reasons I keep returning. Over all the quality of the food such as deli and meals prepped by Meijer are affordable and quality products. However, two reasons why I rated this 3 stars is because some of the times I go (even early in the morning) some of the shelves are not stocked. Another factor is the bathrooms are dirty. Some people may claim that the lines are very long or that the store is always so packed, but I've only noticed this to be the case on Sundays from 11-4. Overall I really enjoy shopping here apart from the bathroom and shelf stocking situations mentioned above. read more

I have been waiting a while to write this review to give the store a chance to settle down after all the grand opening hoopla. Any store that's new to the area will attempt to put it best face forward in the first few months after opening to lure in new clientele, but the key is how are they going to perform in the long run. I had such high hopes for getting another grocery store chain in the area that might prove to be a better option than the other who will remain nameless. Alas, my hopes for improvement in the market space have been greatly dashed. I like the idea of being able to buy groceries and department store goods in the same space in concept, but in actuality it never seems to work well. The store has groceries to the right and back of the store with department store items to the left and center. The prices on the department store items seem high to me. I do tons better at Target with their sale items and coupons than I can at Meijers even using their discount app. As far as groceries, I will pick up on the sale items, but this will not be my regular grocery store. I have never seen a store with so much empty, unstocked shelf space. Either I'm hitting the store right after "Kate + 8" has wiped them out of every sale item in the store, or they never had the inventory to begin with. In addition, the cashiers are some of the slowest ever. I have waited in a check out lane for more than 20 minutes, several times. My husband has had to leave the store with our toddler, who just could't take the wait any longer. The deli service leaves something to be desired as well. Twice, I have asked for a salad item in the ad at the counter only to be told that they did not carry it. Why on earth would it be in the local ad then? It's not even like they were out; they never had any to begin with (so frustrating). One of my last attempts to buy something from the deli counter went horribly wrong, so much so that we won't try their deli again. I wanted 8 pieces of fried chicken and was told that it would be about a 20 minute wait. Okay, fine, I have other shopping to do, so I came back. There were at least 6 people all waiting for chicken when I returned. I finally got my order, checked out and headed home....to the worst fried chicken dinner of my life! The chicken was so overcooked that the flesh under the breading was hard. No not just a little bit over done, hard enough to us as a hammer. The saddest part is that my husband has mentioned to the store manager on duty about the poor service received, and their response was complete indifference. Game changer? I was really looking forward to Meijer coming to the area after visinting several times in Michigan. I know they have been big supporters of groups like Hunger Task Force for years too. I'm all for an alternative to Pick 'n Save and Walmart. On a recent visit the shelves in this new store were barren and the produce department had a swarm of fruit flies. Many items were on clearance and sale, as if they had given up on this location. Right now there's a Whole Foods going in across the street. I know lots of folks have been really excited about Meijer coming into MKE, but I just don't get all the hype. I'd never been in one of their stores so I've got nothing to compare it to, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Even thought they just opened, the store was kind of messy. Most carts had garbage and discarded flyers in them and stock was low/non existent for things - especially the bakery. Woodman's has far better selection and better prices too. It's basically a hybrid of Pick'N'Save and WalMart - two businesses I actively avoid. There's a giant housewares section so if you find yourself needing a TV, a baby car seat, onions, beer, bananas and some towels at the same time you're covered. They gave me a $10 off $50 coupon so I'll go back to use that but I can't see Meijer being in my regular shopping rotation. read more
