They also have a lovely little bar in the back room...it's intimate and great to hop in when it's open. We sat at a table close to the front door on a cold Sunday night. This place has a great happy hour which is every day from 3-5pm and Sunday from 3 - close. I got their delish old fashioned at the happy hour pricing. Yum and Yay! Decided to try the Avo-BLT and the Quiet Riot (a delicious ginger beer mocktail) -- and they were prepared quickly, looked great and tasted delicious. We went there for our anniversary dinner on a Wednesday evening. Wanted to order the Steak Frites, but they were out (apparently reworking portions of the menu). That worked out well as I tried something else, more on that later. We started with a couple of Old Fashion's. They have an awesome looking craft cocktail selection, but we wanted to evaluate a traditional cocktail, which did not disappoint. We split the Tempura Fried Shrimp appetizer, perfect, great with the red chile mayo and the pickled veggies! For the main dish, my wife ordered the Togarashi Bluefin Tuna Bowl and I ordered the Fried Garlic Noodles with Chicken, and of course we shared bites with one another. Both were excellent and highly recommended, the Tuna was sushi grade and melt in your mouth good. The Fried Garlic noodles were excellent and a pleasant surprise. Udon noodles with excellent seasoning and the chicken was thigh meat perfectly cooked and very flavorful. This is a cute eatery to meet friends. The place is cozy. Most of the 2 top tables are high tops with perfect mood lighting for the table. They have an open kitchen within the bar area. I've gone twice in the past month or so and really enjoyed both times. First time I got the proper burger and fries. So tasty and we also started with the burrata which we loved! Also had great drinks, but can't remember the names. Second time was a few days ago with out of state friends and we all loved our food. My wife and I tried Stillwater Proper this past weekend. Great vibe overall - busy but a really nice setup with the bar in the middle and tables all around. We sat at the bar in front of the open kitchen (which was fun to watch actually). We tried a couple of the special cocktails (see pictures). Vey strong first sip but overall two really good drinks. We were thinking we were there just for a cocktail but ended up getting some fries as a snack - they were amazing - thin cut and cooked perfectly. Not exactly health food ... but so good. Without question, the best restaurant experience I had in downtown Stillwater, and my mouth is still watering from the experience! I just absolutely love this place, let's just start with the ambience, which is fantastic! A nice bar, right in the middle very lively, TV screens, get this they have their own distillery in the back?! I mean, I have not seen that before! You will just be so happy you stopped in here to eat. Trust me! Time to talk about the food, the best meal I've had in months! And certainly in Stillwater!! Everything here was probably about as good as things could taste let's just talk about some of the appetizers like the brussels sprouts and the carrots! Make sure you order both of those you won't regret it! My grilled chicken sandwich was the best grilled chicken sandwich I can remember having. So here's another thing, without a doubt, the best dessert I think I even can remember at a restaurant! They have several brownies here and they put ice cream on it. After some axe throwing at a nearby establishment our big family group stopped here for dinner (yes we had a reservation for our group of twelve). The restaurant was hopping and the waitress did a good job with the big group. The kitchen though was a bit slow but not a surprise given the size of our group. The menu was somewhat small with lots of sandwiches including burgers and hot dogs and a few entrees. Everyone liked their meal. It has been 2 weeks since my sisters, the SOs and myself were all in the same city! This happens once every few years. For a "Sibling's night out," (without in-laws, babies, or toddlers) my oldest sister made reservations for Stillwater Proper. Sustainable, local and that includes the liquor, wine and beer, right on!!! Arrived and were seated promptly, then given water and introduced to the server. He was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly! I ordered the "One Time at Band Camp" drink (I had to explain the cultural significance to one of my younger sisters, which was...special...), others got beer brewed from local breweries, and the non-alcohol drinking folks amongst us could choose, yes, from the traditional pop products, mocktails, tea and whatnot. The party total was about 8 (I believe?) and here are the nitty gritty facts: 1.) Brussels- well balanced, tasty, flavorful and overcooked 2.) Hot dogs (Banh mi and Japanese) = DELISH!! 3.) Tempura fried shrimp was said to be good, although the batter was heavy 4.) Two people got the Proper Burger, and were happy with the doneness requested and flavor. 5.) We got both types of fries in abundance and were full of 'taters, precious. 6.) One of my browski in laws got the grilled cheese, and all I can say is that I saw the server place down the dish, and the next time I looked, it was gone! 7.) Here is the downer: 3 of us got the steak frites. The requested doneness was SPOT. OH! KUDDOS! However, it was SOOOOOOOOO salty. All three of us agreed, and that includes 2 foodie connoisseur and then my younger sister who thinks Ranch Dressing goes with everything and actually went to McDonalds and ordered a "Fish Fillet, hold the fish." Very disappointing. Fries were great, greens as a salad that accompanied the steak were fresh, crisp and the dressing complimented the dish to lend sweetness to the dish. Here is why it got 3 stars: the timing. The servers were fantastic, the timing BLEW!!! We arrived and part of our party was 10 minutes late, true. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Everything great so far! The drinks and apps came out quickly, within 5-10 minutes. And then, a few minutes after being served the apps, we were asked to put in our entrée orders, because the kitchen wanted to have time to time the main entrees and were in a rush. Okay. We gave our orders... 40 minutes later, a full hour and 15 minutes after the time of our reservation, the entrees arrived. Legit, the reservations were for 7:30PM, and we got our entrees around 8:45PM, and the place closes at 9PM! One of my sisters who has twin 6 month old's considered and asking for the plated dinner to be transferred to to go boxes! It was frustrating to be asked to rush our entrée orders and then wait an our after appetizers to receive our main dishes. Look, I know that this is a newer place, and with COVID-19, it would not hurt to give some grace. I will try the place again and see if the service/kitchen timing was a fluke or if it is an issue with management. Either way, all of us siblings had a blast and that at the end of the day is what matters! read more

The place has great decor and the staff is super friendly. A distillery style affair with a menu of different sorts. The menu has a variety of items from Asian to American flair. The pesto that accompanied the burrata is very, very salty. FYI burgers do not come with sides so it's just the burger. The hot fried chicken sandwich was the real downer here - it's not a fillet, it's 3 chicken tenders instead. But again, similar to the Brussel sprouts, it was overly fried and really tough to eat.
