We stopped here for an early dinner before heading to the airport and were intrigued by the Cambodian Vietnamese menu. I ordered the turmeric rice with grilled chicken served in a clay pot, one sister had the bun bo hue with glass noodles, and the other chose the dry Phnom Penh noodles. My turmeric rice was phenomenal. I especially loved the crispy layer at the bottom of the clay pot. I also tried both of my sisters' dishes. The bun bo hue was good, though a bit sweeter than I prefer. The dry noodles were exceptional, and I can see why they are a popular choice. Prices were comparable to what I am used to, so no surprises there. The service stood out as well. The staff was attentive, refilling our water without being asked and checking in to make sure everything was to our liking. I've dined at Mekha multiple times over the past two years, both solo and with friends, and it continues to be a go to spot for hard to find Southeast Asian comfort dishes. Their menu blends Kampuchean and Vietnamese cuisine, which makes for a refreshingly unique experience in the Portland food scene. Favorites include: Bánh Tằm Bì, Chuối Nướng, Vietnamese yogurt (served in adorable glass jars). And the standout: Pandan flan, hands down one of the best I've had anywhere. Their Ube and Classic flans are decent. They also offer signature noodle dishes like Mì Quảng and Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang. My only wish? That they'd switch from frozen liver to fresh in the Hủ Tiếu. The current version tends to be overcooked after thawing, which takes away from the overall balance of the bowl. In general, their flavor profile leans on the sweeter side, which aligns with traditional Kampuchean cuisine, so just a heads up if you prefer savory forward dishes. So glad we tried this place. Overall experience was amazing. The decor, the workers, the service was all amazing. Both hosts were so funny and friendly joke around, smiling and gave Vietnamese uncle vibes. I had the pho and egg soda. The egg soda was delicious and creamy and you really tasted the condensed milk. The pho was probably top 2 phos I had in Oregon. Portions amazing with a lot of meat and the broth was hearty. We ordered a side of wings too and it was honestly so much food. YUM! This place has been on my list for awhile, and I can't call it a hidden gem because it was very apparent that they're well-known in the community. They have a huge wall of postcards from folks traveling all around the world. I got the broken rice with porkchop, shredded pork, and pork patty, which was recommended by my server. This is one of my favorite dishes in general, but theirs was something special. The flavor of their shredded pork was delicious and I loved that they had fried onions on the porkchop. The porkchop was also very tender. Service was great! They took my order as soon as I was ready, and my food came out quickly. I especially liked the wall full of postcards and drawings that have been sent to or given to the restaurant. It's charming. The menu has lots of options, including a vegetarian section. I had the lemongrass chicken rice plate, my husband had the pork lettuce wraps, and my daughter had pot stickers. Everything looked especially pretty when it arrived and was very tasty. I do wish my chicken had a bit of kick to it. The portions were generous enough that I had enough leftovers for dinner too. I ordered Thai tea and, unexpectedly, it came with whipped cream. On a cold, rainy day in Portland I was craving some nice warm hot soup. I have had this spot bookmarked for about a year now from social media, and finally decided to gave this place a try. Left with no regrts. While I was craving some Pho, I decided to change it up and ordered the Phnom Penh pork noodle soup. This dish is optionally served either with soup or dry with soup on the side, and I went with the soup option. I loved that it came with 2 different kinds of noodles (egg and rice), and customers can choose between various different protein options and even seafood, making it great for pescatarians. I of course went with the mixed meat option which was full of flavor. The array of ingredients of noodles, meats, vegetables, herbs and aromas from this dish made it truly unique. I don't think I've ever had one that was nearly $21, and it didn't even come with the soup ='( the rice plate was good but also tasted like a rice plate at any other Vietnamese restaurant in Portland. I wouldn't order the banana sticky rice with coconut sauce again. It barely had banana in it, and it didn't have much taste to it despite its name. Lots of Vietnamese locals frequent this restaurant which tells me it's good quality. I ordered the house special Pho and to me it was ok. It wasn't the meatiest or aromatic tasting pho I've ever had but it was good. I can't knock it down and I can't sing its praises, it's just ok. The prices however, are kind of insane for Pho. My dish was $20 USD! I guess inflation is hitting everyone including places I used to consider affordable. The fresh spring rolls which are normally $9 Canadian are $11 USD! Pricey considering you get one prawn (sliced in half) in each roll and a slice of tiny pork. That also being said, their peanut dipping sauce was delicious. You get a lot of hipster vibes in here with the set up and their wall filled with letters and post cards from customers/friends travelling all over the world. Service is fast, friendly and food comes out quick, but is fresh and cold when it should be a hot when it should be. Tonight, we for the fresh salad rolls ($10.95) and two bowls of Pho (chicken $16.95 and beef $17.95). Everything was great, noodles are perfect, and meat is almost too much, lol. Went to lunch with a friend here today. I was greeted upon entering and seated pretty quickly even though the other half of my party wasn't present. I was worried for a minute because I was sitting and looking at the menu, taking up a table. It wasn't an issue for the restaurant. During my wait (maybe 10-15 mins), I was brought water, but wasn't able to get anyone's attention to order an appetizer while I waited. That is my only complaint. The staff are efficient and friendly. They made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, and we both ordered pho, but different kinds. I ordered pho #20, which had all the variety of meats. The food came out quickly, which was nice. The food was really good, especially the pho. The serving was large and tasty, and they brought extras to add in. I recommend trying them out. They're off of Sandy Blvd., so I ended up parking on a residential street as there is a 1 hour parking time limit in front of the restaurant. read more

We ordered the eggs rolls (12.95) and the Carmalized Crispy Quails ($13.95) for apps and wow they were so delicious! TL;DR: great authentic food. Desserts are "ok". Soup is very flavorful and has a "home cooked" vibe. Parking: free street side parking. Atmosphere: more seating in the back around the corner. Menu: minimal images but descriptive. It has a blend of Cambodian and Vietnamese food, but it felt more on the Vietnamese side. Service: wait to be seated, order at the table, you will be watered, check brought to you. Phnom Penh Pork Noodle: the soup is "souper" flavorful! Has a real homemade vibe and is very satisfying. All the ingredients blend together nicely and is the perfect meal for a rainy day. Pork Vermicelli Bowl with Crispy Roll: the pork is thinly cut and is very flavorful, though some slices were slightly chewy. I'm a big fan of the assorted veggies in the bowl and the generous proportion of crispy rolls (2 cut rolls), the sauce for the vermicelli bowl was very flavorful (a perfect balance of tang, sugar, and salt). Ube Flan and Pandan Flan: flan is so vibrantly colored like acrylic paint and is lightly sweetened -- the bottom "juice" is where all the sugar is at so I recommend starting to eat from the bottom up to maximize coating each bite with the sugary sauce. Overall, taste was not bad, I could taste the ube/pandan, but I probably wouldn't get it again. If I had to choose between the two, I think Pandan would be best, the flavor was stronger. read more

One standout is the Vietnamese Egg Coffee, which is not to be confused with the more popular Ca Phe Sua Da. If you like your espresso/coffee on the sweeter side then this is must try. The Pho dry noodles (broth on the side) is my go-to. They are generous with the chicken when ordering the their specialty noodles. Two very interesting must tries: Mango special drink and Ube flan. If you are carving a good bowl of hu tieu, come to this place. I've had it countless times and it always hits the spot. I've never tried any of their other dishes so can't give an opinions. Last night, we ordered the fried tofu and chicken wings to share, BBH for friend and a mien ga for my daughter. The BBH was probably a 7/10 and glass noodle was 8/10. The broth was pretty delicious in both. The fried tofu is like any other friend tofu but I would skip the wings. It's not caramelized like the name states and the fish sauce they used didn't awe me. Took my dad to Mekha Restaurant during the day of Lunar New Year/Tet, and we wanted to find some Vietnamese food to eat. I myself got the Com Tam (Broken Rice) dish. I actually tried the Com Tam from here back in the summer as well. It has always been a very solid "no frills" dish done right. I also tried their Vietnamese Egg Coffee which was okay, it was a lot sweeter than I was expecting and it was also more creamy than what egg coffee usually is, probably because the portion of the egg foam was more than the coffee itself. This is definitely not your typical homey Vietnamese restaurant. When you walk in you will see an array of plants and postcards from all over the world. The hipster restaurant has many local Vietnamese customers stopping in, so that's always a good sign that the food is authentic and delicious. It also seemed like the two workers knew almost everyone that came in. I did see a sign that the restaurant has been under 5 different generations, so that's really nice to hear that the business has been doing so well and was able to withstand the pandemic and inflation--which probably explains why the prices are so high. I have never seen such expensive meals at a Vietnamese restaurant before. It looks like they've updated their prices recently as a meal costs around $20. Was shocked to see an iced coffee was $8 too! We ordered pho dac biet ($20), hu tieu (wet) ($20), and salad rolls ($11) to share. The food came out super quick, portions were generous and the veggies were fresh, but the food was just okay. I can't say I was amazed by the food, so we probably won't be returning. read more
