The food is okay, but you can find better jianbing at Bing Mi. The service when I was picking up my order today after work was atrocious though. Normally I wouldn't care that much about service, but when a lady in a tacky light pink blazer tries to berate me for not having my order window still up on my phone to prove what my name and order was then we have a problem. What's the point of me providing my name and phone number in the order if you also must see my actual order on my phone? There wasn't even any customers in the restaurant while I was there picking up my order and there were only a few orders on the bench. I offered my name and that I was there for pick up, and I was happy to wait there patiently but this lady demanded to see the order on my phone because she couldn't find any order under my name. I must've closed the paid for order window on my phone on accident so I offered her my license to show her my name, but she got upset, huffed, and said "How are we supposed to give you your order if you don't show us what you ordered?" I did know what I ordered though because it was only 2 things, but she never asked me what I ordered or any other identifying information. Anyways, I ended up quickly finding my own order and she tried arguing that the order didn't say my name (I think she just couldn't read it cause it looks like their ink was running out on their order printer, but I was able to make out my own name and phone number on the order). I finally got my order though after I recited my phone number (which was on the order printout right in front of me so I could've lied anyways if that's what she was actually concerned about, but logic was thrown out the window from the very beginning). We came in cold and hungry and left full, happy, and already planning our next visit! The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. We may have gone a little overboard ordering (okay... a lot overboard ), but no regrets because everything was delicious -- and the leftovers were just as good later! We started with the beef brisket soup and WOW. The broth was rich, flavorful, and warmed us right up. It hit the spot perfectly. For my little guy, we ordered the chicken bites and rice -- his absolute favorite -- and he cleaned his plate without hesitation. That's always a win! You don't need any sauces, it was flavorful enough! 2. Chinese style postickers ($10.95). When you first eat it it was very good and it was super pretty. The downside was that the wrapper got hard very quick and became stiff and hard to eat. 3. Beef brisket noodle soup ($11.95). Very good, the soup was nice and piping hot, the beef was tender, and the noodle's texture was very good. 4. Popcorn chicken ($8.95). Very good! Not spicy (there's a dipping sauce for it), very juicy and great texture and the batter was light and crispy! The downside was that it's hard to find parking but the food was good and the area was clean! The tea was also very good, it's not something that I would say often. It's still my top go to for congee craving, especially when fall and winter are here and coming for us PNW folks. The price is still very affordable compared to most. They cleaned up the inside a bit, more tables, and TV with talent music channel. Services are improved and friendlier. Complementary hot tea. My visit last week was $21.50 total with: beef brisket noodles, plain congee, and fried dough. The beef brisket was tender and alright. Broth was on a sweet and bland side. I ordered it because I wanted the braised egg! Two small bunch of bok choy. Left over of the noodle and congee were still decent reheated in microwave. I would recommend the snow pea leaves and the popcorn chicken, soo tasty especially with their signature sauces on the side (free of charge). I regularly get cravings for Master Kong and have dined here since their first month in business. It's nice being able to just go somewhere casual and quick and being able to order some dumplings, bao buns, or potstickers when I am feeling hangry without having to order a full dinner or lunch. A bit has changed over the years however. They've added the addition of online ordering and a in store kiosk that has been flawless and has made it much easier to shorten wait times. This came in super handy once, when I was about to go to the theater nearby and knew I could sneak in an order of potstickers right before showtime, so that's a huge plus. Another thing is originally most of the things seemed handmade and hand pleated. Nowadays it has more of a commercial and uniform look to it as if they are using molds or devices to form the buns and dumplings which is a slight disappointment. Lastly when this place originally opened the menu was priced so low that it felt like a steal. Handmade dumplings several dollars cheaper than other places in town that serve frozen?!? Hell yes! Nowadays the dumplings and buns aren't dirt cheap but on the high side of reasonable. I haven't ordered it for awhile now but the meat folder and bing haven't dropped in quality which is nice. So while MK isn't the value it once was, it's still a solid option for a quick bite. read more

this place was so good! you order at a kiosk that is right by the door, then you can seat yourself. the parking lot is pretty small, but we were the only people there when we arrived, so it was fine. this is a nice little cozy shop that feels like comfort. we ordered a ton of food because everything sounded so delicious. jianbing -- this was my favorite! there was a fried wonton wrapper wrapped inside and that added such a nice and crunchy texture. we added beef to it to make it a well balanced nutritious dish. pork pocket(?) i forgot the name -- also very good. my second favorite. had a nice pan fry that made it so yummy. xiao long bao -- not the best that i've had. the first one was pretty good, but the second one had no liquid in it. i'm not sure if that was because we let it cool down too quickly? steamed vegetables -- delicious as always wonton noodle soup -- it was fine but i didn't like how the meat was very dense. i usually don't go for meatballs with this texture, so it wasn't all that to me. also, the noodles were all stuck together so it was really hard to eat. i definitely want to come back here and show this place to my family read more

Me and my boyfriend LOVE this place ! And have been back like 3-4 times in the past few months I live in Washington but it's definitely worth the little drive here , the staff are always extremely friendly and helpful and have great customer service, it's a smaller place but there is room for multiple groups and it's pretty cute and always has music playing , the food is super good it's a medium size menu but we haven't tried anything we don't like ! Came here again to try a few more dishes. Had to order their jian bing (vegetarian by default) again since it was so good the first time. And wow, it was our favorite item again this time too. Also tried their vegetarian dumplings (a little on the sweet side so needs to be paired with sauce) and wonton noodles (non-veg). I love that their dumplings are handmade and you can tell the quality of the skin fold since the top portion is easy to chew. Wonton noodles were delicious and the wontons were high quality and packed tight. Broth was light and flavorful and they give a lot of thin egg noodles. However they didn't have red vinegar available to eat with the wontons so maybe I'll bring my own next time! This is such a great place to have warm soft comfort food on a chilly, rainy day. The staff is amazing and very friendly. We ordered a little bit of everything. Massive flavor explosion. I don't usually order sweet beverages with meals however they let you choose the sweetness going to 25% sweet! I chose 50% sweet for the strawberry drink and it was delicious however next time I'm going for the 25%. That drink really went well with the meal I'm hooked. Otherwise the flavor and crunch were good. The snow pea leafs were a light and fresh addition to our assortment of mains. The meat folder was recommended to us. It was a nice protein rich option that was filling. We got the pork dumplings which were soft and well filled. The only thing I was disappointed in was that XLB, there was no soup in the dumpling! Very excellent hole in the wall Chinese (tho the secrets been out a while it seems). Handmade noodles and dumplings in house. Most ppl seem to like the dumplings most, and while they were pretty good (if a bit doughy) they were still just normal dumplings to me. But the noodles in their soups were amazing - thick and bouncy without being doughy or too chewy. The mustard pork & wonton soup had a tasty, clean and comforting broth. Also, their Jianbing here is fantastic - about half the price ($9) and double the size compared to Bing Mi, and they actually stuff them full here. Free hot tea upon entering. Mostly self service, you mark your choices on a paper. They do mostly to go it seems but I like dining in if one of few tables inside are available. The restaurant was full when we arrived, and there was no indication of the approximate wait time for a table. I should've just left. The place is already small and becomes even more cramped with everyone standing by the door waiting for the next available table. I made the mistake of ordering on the screen for dine-in; they still prepared my food even when there was no place to sit or stand. We held our food by the door while waiting for the next available table. The noodles didn't taste as good as I remember; they were rather mediocre. I was reading an article about the Jade District, and the businesses in the area. The piece about Master Kong caught my attention, so I Yelp-ed them. Went there the next weekend and DAAAAMN I am so happy they're in my life now! Best jianbing I've ever had! I am so obsessed with it, I went back again and ordered two. Also, I never knew chicken dumplings could taste this good! We ordered the sautéed snow peas greens. Seriously, I did not know you could eat the stems and leaves of pea plants. But you have to order it! It's very lightly sautéed and spiced so that you can really taste how flavorful the stems and leaves really are. I love that the food is simply prepared, fresh, and already so flavorful without being heavily sauced. I need to beg the owners to please please please open a Master Kong in the Vancouver area. If they were more conveniently located, I'd go more often, and be fat, broke and happy! read more

I've heard a lot about Master Kong and finally made a stop to try it. I tried their Jian Bing and their dumplings. What I find interesting everything you order is through scanning a QR code to load their order page. Then from there you select what you want to order, and can keep ordering until you're done eating then close the tab. The jianbing was bigger than I anticipated (not pictured but there's two half's to the one half I took a picture of. I got a classic one which was good, had a crispy cracker, seasonings, cilantro, and some nuts. The boiled dumplings had no flavor when you ate it on its own. However when dipping it in the three sauces they give it tasted delicious. Big portions for the price and it's affordable. Definitely a place that's great to grab some breakfast/brunch/lunch from. There's not really parking but there's adequate street parking. read more

Master Kong has received recognition in Portland for years now, and I finally made it in for lunch this week. While the building isn't fancy or in a desirable area of town, the interior is clean. They've got table and bar seating. The kitchen is right there so you can watch and listen as your food is made. I was dining solo but still wanted to try lots of things. I got four items - the jianbing, Chinese style pot stickers, steamed buns, and scallion pancakes. The server warned me this was a lot of food and he was right. The servings are generous for the price (most were $7-9). I was happy to have some to take home. Service was actually great - though they were busy with takeout/delivery orders, my server took the time to share some info about each dish as he dropped it off. (For example, how to eat it, how it is prepared, special ingredients, secret recipe by his mom the chef, etc.) This elevated the experience and I really appreciated the time he took and the insight from these brief comments. I really enjoyed most of what I ordered. Would absolutely get the jianbing again. Enjoyed the potstickers and scallion pancake. The steamed buns were not char siu bao - they had something like a pork meatball inside, I'd probably skip those. There were definitely other menu items I'd like to try in the future! read more

However with the garlic sauce the meat inside was so juicy and was piping hot when it came out. The clam congee was pretty plain. Im not sure if it had any clams in it but boy did i see a lot of shells in there. The jian bing was also pretty average. Very crispy inside but didnt have a lot of egg in it like it traditionally does. Tasty but not the most authentic. Master Kong is decent enough to pass however doesn't quite live up to the standard of asian food I have gotten used to eating in SoCal. Pretty good but nothing to write home about. Was in the area trying to go to another spot for food but ended up finding Master Kong on Yelp with good reviews so decided to check the space out. The location might be easy to miss on the corner but they have a small parking lot in the back and another entrance. We came right before dinner and beat the rush but as we were waiting for our food there were crowds coming in both for dine in and for take out which was a good sign. You can either order at their machine or they will hand you a paper menu for you to mark what you would like to order (similar to dim sum). They bring food to your table as it comes out so you get it in batches and at the end you just bring your ordering sheet and then you can check out. Decided to get a mix of items from the house made dumplings, xlb, and sesame sauce noodles. My favorite of the night was the house made dumplings because the wrapping was so fresh and flavorful filling. Pair them with their three sauces and you got yourself something tasty. Speaking of the sauces they had three they provided - chili oil, garlic/ginger mix, and then a soy sauce mix. My next favorite was the sesame paste noodles. It was a cold noodle dish so don't get this if you want something warmer but the noodles were nice and chewy and then was light with all the cucumbers with the sauce. The XLB was also worth trying but felt the wrapper wasn't as fresh as the other noodles and a little thicker than I prefer. Might try another time but might opt to try something else - we didn't see black vinegar around but the chili oil was good to top it with. We also ordered the pork belly rice but they might have missed it on the sheet so we didn't get to try. We were OK with this though because we were stuffed with the other items we got so leaves us something to try another time. read more
