    Mela Urban Bistro
    Greg H.

I have been staying at the Courtyard by Marriott this week while I am working in Springfield, OH this week. Mela Urban Bistro is their restaurant and since I don't like to go out after a long day, Mela Urban Bistro is your typical hotel restaurant. It is decorated in a moderate style and is comfortable. They have a bar with a decent selection of alcohol. My first night here, I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a side salad and the chicken satay skewers. The salad was your basic iceberg lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese, and ranch dressing. Not bad but not blow your socks off. The skewers on the other hand were a huge disappointment. The chicken was cooked well but they were were supposed to be bourbon brown sugar glazed. They weren't glazed. I found out later that the chicken is marinated in a bourbon brown sugar concoction and not actually glazed. I mentioned this fact to the staff who is going to forward my thoughts on to the chef. I was actually going to rate Mela Urban Bistro lower just based on the salad and chicken satay but dinner tonight saved them from 2 stars. Tonight is my last night in the area and I felt like a burger. The only choices around seemed to be the same old boring choices I have close to home so I thought I'd give Mela another chance. Tonight, I order a bacon cheddar burger with potato wedges. I also order a local brew from Mother Stewart's Brewery here in Springfield. It's a grapefruit IPA aptly named Disco Dancer. More on the beer in a bit. I ordered my burger medium and it cam out medium so no frozen, precooked patties here. The cheddar cheese was nicely melted over the burger patty and they threw four slices of bacon on top. Lettuce and tomato were on the side. The b urger was cooked well and the potato wedges were pretty good. Overall, a nice save from the previous night. The IPA was excellent! It wasn't too heavy. It was light, crisp, and smooth. I would have a Disco Dancer IPA again. After I was finished with me meal, I decided on a Hendricks and tonic. I a gin connoisseur and Hendricks is one of my mainstream favorites. The best part about mu gin & tonic was the price! At $7.00, I could throw back quite a few! Overall, tonight's dinner redeemed my opinion of Mela Urban Bistro. It isn't the best around but is a decent place for a meal if you are staying at the Courtyard. The staff is very friendly and make you feel welcome. I will stop in again the next time I in the area.

Crispy bacon!!! The only way it should be!

Stopped by on the morning of 9/27/19, at around 6:15am. The buffet was stocked with many options, BUT WHAT REALLY SOLD ME was the service! I was greeted right away. The tables were set, and clean. The cold plates made my scrambled eggs cold quickly, so I asked one of the waitstaff if they could microwave my plate (I don't like to waste food), and she not only microwaved my food, she offered to have fresh eggs scrambled just for me. I accepted the offer and continued on. The two gals working today, were kind, professional, and courteous. Send my thanks to the cook too!

Salmon with side of broccoli and side of peppers instead of potatoes..d'lish!

Okay, the food is good, the dessert was not good at all, and their prices are a little high. Their drink selection is good, and portions are all reasonable. I don't rate 5 stars because I think it's overpriced, although it's a bit expected since it's in a Marriott... I would like to rate it lower because the dessert was so unfortunate, but my salmon dish was too good. I substituted my side of potatoes for grilled peppers. It's convenient and good.

Horrible. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes for 2 filets $36 per plate. Ordered medium rare and came out well done. Sorry not waiting for another. Drinks took forever. Once again we were the only ones in the restaurant. Food also was also Luke warm. Stay away!!!!

Great food but lousy service. We had 6:16 pm reservations for dinner. Our food didn't come until 7:25. We had an 8 pm show for Pete sake!

Plenty of parking including several handicap spaces. Speaking solely for the (all day) breakfast, food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Over easy eggs were wonderfully runny, toast had the perfect amount of butter, the bacon done exactly right, slightly crispy but soft enough to be comfortingly chewy. And a generous amount too. Turkey sausage links were as anticipated, mild in flavor, and the silver dollar pancakes were actually pretty large and quite tasty. Coffee was okay, served in a large mug. If you want milk or cream (which is probably the fake stuff) in your coffee speak up when you order, as we were not asked. Service started out somewhat shaky but improved as time went on. You pay your tab at a register on the way out, and they have envelopes for each server if you want to leave a cash tip. They have a shelf of local jams, jellies, and honey for sale. The dessert list on the chalkboard indicated some delightful sounding pies, but I'm saving my calories at present so had to pass. I see they have two other locations, so hope to try one of the others as well next time we're between Urbana and Eaton.

The chicken was seasoned well and went nicely with the chicken gravy and mashed potatoes. Wish I had remembered to take a picture! The dinner rolls were nothing special and I don't care for margarine spread. The side of fried red potatoes were served with sour cream, very tasty. I would recommend and go back for the chicken again and probably not share.

Located Right on Route 40, its truly inconvenient if you're coming from the Wrong Direction. However, its really worth it to drive past it, make a U-Turn on a Busy Highway, and then turn into the uphill drive to the private parking lot. . Meadows is VERY CONVENIENT to the Nearby Antique Mall, though, so this is a GREAT DAY TRIP for anyone making the Journey. All that being said, let's talk Food! . I was feeling a little heavy from breakfast, so I opted for the Grilled Chicken Salad. My wife, ever the Pork lover, ordered the Pork Chops with 2 Sides. Our food arrived quickly - around 10 minutes - and we were pleasantly surprised with two large dishes. . My Dish, a Grilled Chicken Salad, came in a Large Chilled Salad Bowl. To be honest, not a lot of Restaurants understand the importance and sheer luxury of chilled China ware when it comes to cool dishes like salad. . The Lettuce was chopped Iceberg. Every bite was fresh and there were no clumps of lettuce that hadn't been fully separat3d before prep. The tomatoes, were hearty Roma, and the cheese was a grated Mozzarella.Four marinated and crisp grilled to near perfection. Juicy and Crisp, these Chicken Spears were a perfect. So yummy and just barely sweetened by the vinegarette marinade. I only ate half. However, gobbled up the rest as we got home. 2 meals for me. . My Wife's Grilled zporknCops came with two sides. She chose Apple Sauce and Green Beans. The Pork Chops were also well-cooked: Crispy outside, tender within. She cleaned her plate and did the same with her beans and apple sauce. Mund you, she hadn't eaten all day, so even if she eats like a 5-foot-tall farm girl, there was enough to fill most anyone. On top of that, she left appy, so there's that. . Why a 4? Location, location, Location. If you're nearby: YOU GOTTA GO. If you're not, i can't see it being a Destination you'd seek out over a place 10 miles closer to home. Sorry to the Owners, its just a small bit of bad luck.

Then we got salads: I got a wedge salad and Richelle got the Cecil house salad. Wonderful salads plenty of dressing. Then for dinner go big for a b-day: We got the tomahawk ribeye, from Woodruff farms, cooked perfectly medium rare by the staff. This was our first tomahawk ribeye, it's impressive and enough for two with leftovers. Blue cheese dip for the ribeye, yes; cold or hot, that's the question! Richelle got the Mac-n-cheese for a side, a good choice. For desert we had the tuxedo cake with ice cream and berry sauce. The staff put a candle in the cake and sang happy birthday to Richelle. This is a locally owned very nice GOURMET dinner restaurant, with fantastic staff and relaxed atmosphere. Service is top notch, waitstaff is friendly and informative. Most impressive was how perfectly executed every dish was--the filet perfectly medium-rare, the salmon and lamb were flawless and cooked true medium and tender, the lasagna excellent, the potatoes au gratin beautifully caramelized, and the asparagus crisp-tender with a perfect char. Truly outstanding execution across the board. The restaurant matches any fine-dining spot in Dayton-Springfield but with a lively instead of stuffy atmosphere. A singer-pianist duo played jazz standards, adding a nice touch. Pricing was also very fair for the quality: most entrées were in the high $20s to $30s (the filet higher), while comparable places would be $10-$20 more for similar meals. For anyone in the Dayton-Springfield area, this is absolutely a destination. Enjoy!
