I got there right as the owner was locking up for the Thanksgiving holiday. Without batting an eye, she opened the store again, made sure the music was playing, and insisted that I not rush. I immediately found a gorgeous scarf and a necklace for my friend, and I couldn't resist getting a great black sweater for myself. I thanked her profusely, and walked home to show off my purchases to my bf. Duly impressed, he reminded me that it was time for me to go back to work. Oh no. I couldn't find my keys anywhere. We tore up the house for a while, and found spare keys dating back to 2011. Just not MY keys. They have to be at the store. Finally, I had the presence of mind to look for a phone number (only after I'd already run back down the street to see if she was still there -- all locked up.). She answered, and said she hadn't noticed them. Upon hearing the panic in my voice, she offered to come back downtown and look. She had already driven away! It's her thanksgiving break! I felt terrible, but I needed those keys. Fear not, my keys and I were reunited. She was unbelievably gracious about my mistake, even apologizing for not having looked around before closing. A review for a boutique should emphasize the product. Ohmygoodness these clothes are perfect. And the jewelry. And the hats. Clearly, I HAD to make a special trip just to buy a present here. Also, though, let's all support the heck out of a just plain good person who happens to have a VERY fashionable boutique in the affordable clothes- hungry world of downtown Dallas.

I was never impressed with the quality of their clothing, but it was a good convenient place to stop by when I was in a bind for something cute and trendy to wear, and their accessory assortment is decent. My last visit was terrible disappointment. I was in a hurry to find a dress to wear that evening for dinner and drinks at the Ritz. I was in a hurry and quickly bought a dress with sequence. When I got home and truly inspected the dress, I noticed that it was missing some sequence pieces, and it just looked plain cheap and tacky. There is no way I was going to wear that to the ritz. What an embarrassment!! I refuse to wear the dress. It was a final sale, so they would not exchange it or work with me store credit. I left this unwearable dress and they kept my $50. Poor, very poor customer service for someone who wants to shop and support local business. It is a shame that they were unwilling to work with me in spite of their poor quality product. As a resident, I always suggest their place as a go to for clothing. I will no longer. They were not willing to work with a loyal customer, so I will take my business and recommendations elsewhere.

Southern Roots offers style for both guys, and the gals: classic looks, casual comfort, and outdoors wear by Patagonia, and other brand names. Classic Birkensock sandals in many colors and designs. Water wear sandals & shoes. I bought a Patagonia "NOH2O" rainproof hooded windbreaker with big waterproof pockets that has done the job when needed, really came in handy. Accessories, hats, sunglasses, accent jewelry, socks, gloves, and more. Staff was pleasant and helpful during my visits. The new Roots at 505 N. Goliad has it's own parking in back, and along the north side. Marked ADA parking space & ramp entry into Roots. So, looks like February 13th, a Saturday, will be a "Block Party" to welcome Southern Roots.

It was the most anti pretty woman, pretty woman shopping day! The girls we're extremely kind, extremely helpful, and made this EASY! Y'all have an incredible team Highly recommend. As for people who say the stuff is over priced... I found it to be completely the opposite. It's extremely reasonable, I won't say cheap because they carry nice brands. But the most expensive item I got was like $75! Most in the $30-50 range which I think is fantastic for a high quality boutique that caters to their customers! He has a vision of where fashion is going, and he's usually about 2-3 years ahead of the curve. His secret (he'll tell if you ask) is that he travels to Europe and sees what they're wearing over there. Then he shrewdly determines what to buy, and he brings it back here. You'll find a wide array of tops and jeans and well everything. If you see a top that fits, you better get it now because he only orders four of each top (Small, Medium, Large and XL). He does this so you don't bump into yourself on the street which can happen a lot in this town if you shop too much Banana Republic. If you snooze, you definitely lose, but luckily HD has a layaway plan that will buy you more time to think about your purchase. For you ladies, HD also has a women's clothing store that is equally hip and two doors down from the Men's store. The best time to visit HDs is right about NOW around Thanksgiving. He usually has a deal where each canned food item you bring in gets you 10% off an item up to 50%. And he starts doing a crazy sale around this time too where each day he gradually marks stuff down each day until he clears it out. One year, I bought this bad-ass jacket for like $40, and he threw in some sick pants for $10. The prices might seem high at first, but once you're a regular, you'll start getting some good deals. It's a really cool little storefront that drips creativity. The staff have obvious passion for the brand. We wandered in while exploring the area and learned much just by walking around. The shoes are fabulous. I did not see a pair for less than $299, and no doubt they are worth it to the right customer (Alice Cooper, Madonna, Vogue models are among the list). Will be interesting to see how the shop fares in this increasingly corporate, formerly underground artsy urban neighborhood!

They really seem to enjoy working there and they know where everything is. It's best to go when you have time to really look. It's a big warehouse and you don't want to miss out. No men or children are allowed at the sale. The dressing room is one big room with mirrors and racks for your clothes. It works fine. People are very respectful. I really love this sale. I go every chance I can. It seems like they have 4, maybe 6 sales a year. There is one man that is outside the door who is very kind. He helps with parking and I've seen him helping women with their packages. Thank you all who make this warehouse sale possible. It feels really good to get quality clothes at such a great price!

My girlfriends and I always go together & buy TONS of cute clothes to wear (mostly "office-type" clothes). So fun! The clothes are random brands, but they have great stuff and really low prices. I always get tons of compliments on the pieces I buy/wear from the sale. I would definately recommend it! I just found out they have another one coming up near the end of July so I had to Yelp it -look them up on Facebook for dates (their website doesn't list dates). Two WARNINGS: Get there EARLY because there is always an extremely LONG line and these women waiting mean business (always lots of pushing, too). Secondly there are no private dressing rooms for trying things on, so be prepared -just one big open area. (It's so worth it, though) No men are allowed in the building.

I realized I needed to return to the store the next day to "re-shop" my choices. Next day I go to store. At this point I am told I cannot exchange, return or get a store credit. No one ever told me that this was the case. Not when I first purchased. Not when I called. There is no sign that states this policy. So basically, I made a $200 donation. Transparency regarding store policies is a must. So much for doing business with local, small businesses. Cannot support the small businesses that are not doing ethical business. Small businesses work hard for every client. You would think as hard as it is the customer would be valued and treated honestly.

I've never had a personal shopper until I met Mary Ann, the owner. She has such a sense of style and gets to know you and your likes. Now, when I go to shop, she calls me by name and starts pulling things off the rack to show me. She's persuaded me to try on things I would never have chosen myself, but they look good. There's not a thing I've bought that doesn't get a compliment, followed by "where did you get that?" If you want a boutique shopping experience but not at the high-end prices, check it out. The items were on the higher side of the middle price range, not too pricey, but definitely enough to not buy everything you see! I prefer this type of mindful shopping. I loved it!

She was an older white woman with short hair. When my sister and I walked in, she didn't greet us. Instead, she looked us up and down and walked away. We immediately felt disrespected, but we decided to continue browsing and see what the store had to offer. After a while, one of the other employees did eventually ask how I was doing, which I appreciated. However, the initial interaction really left a lasting impression. I had heard other women of color share similar experiences at this store, which was actually one of the reasons it took me so long to shop here in the first place. Unfortunately, my experience seemed to confirm the concerns I had heard from others. It's disappointing because the store itself is beautiful and has such a great selection, but the way we were treated made the experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming.
