$10 chicken plate with greens and yams
    Lillian J.

Amazing place. The food was delicious. Hot and fresh. The dining area was spacious. Clean tables. The service was the best. Everyone was super nice. Great ambiance. Good music playing. Definitely warm and inviting. We're almost 2 hours away but we'll be back for sure.

My review. My opinion..IJS.. Melba was on the list of places to visit..Been there done that!! I gave the Food a C-....I only gave 3Star for the Owner. Very nice man, humble and caring...Food was not good thou!!! My Pork Chop were very salty and there was no crust on the fried one? Greens were very bland no taste at all....Yams were just ok!! But, I pray they revise somethings in the seasoning and bring Melba's to life.. Overall I won't be back anytime soon. Maybe in the future just to retest everything... My review..My opinion..IJS.. Just a girl that loves good food!!!

I tried the Melba's world famous chicken with the collard greens and white rice . The chicken was really good and the collard greens were very flavorful. My husband got the red snapper , it was good just was a little small for a Man , but since my meal came with 5 drumsticks I was able to share my meal to even it out . My friend ordered the salmon , I tried a piece it was also really good . The young man at the register was very nice and courteous, even though it was packed in there with a lot of people he stayed professional and kind and polite . I highly recommend this place . I don't know how long their $10 meals will last , but it's an amazing price !

    Melba's World Famous Chicken

I love the signature world famous chicken here, save yourself the trip to Popeyes/KFC and try real southern here. Valued deal and portion, sides are delicious and it's an ambient mom and pop. A rare IE spot you want to try and come back for more.

$10 soul food plates! Say less, I had to stop in! I haven't had a good soul food plate in a while so when I saw the deal online, it gave me the extra nudge to check it out. Lol with that price one could cash in some recyclables and get a plate here. And the plates are big too. They give you 5 pieces of fried chicken. Seriously, two people can eat from it. I guess if you and your friend got $5 on it, you'll be eating good haha. I wound up ordering an extra plate to take my mom since I was going to see her. But I'd come back here if I'm around, the place does check all the boxes with good soul food. It was worth the stop.

See the hair cooked into the chicken down right disgusting Nobody should eat there This place is not the best In The I.E

This man needs to be shut down the hygiene there is terrible an I found a hair in my wings on Wednesday an the owner didn't seem to care the food tasted terrible

Side of greens, macaroni cheese, five regular wings, five sweet heat wings

Came here for the first time to support a black owned restaurant in my neighborhood. The owner was very nice and the ambience was nice!! I'm going to start with the good. The greens were seasoned well and tender. The macaroni and cheese was seasoned well not a lot of cheese and the macaroni was overcooked. Now the bad the chicken wings were seasoned well BUT they were way overcooked!!! They were dried out like chicken jerky very very chewy ate three and couldn't eat anymore because my jaw was hurting. I'm gonna give it one more try and see what the BBQ is doing

Smothered pork chop, rice/gravy and potato salad.
    NayNay ..

I'll just say I'm from L.A. so the food out here in the I.E. is umm different. Maybe it be different food in the back for content creators I don't know but this my second time and I'm good. All plates were $10 the cornbread is 2/$5. 1- smothered pork chop, rice/gravy, potato salad. Gravy tasted like lemon, pork chop was hard, rice was soggy and the potato salad is Reese or something store bought. 2- Catfish nugget, baked beans and greens. Catfish could had been fried longer but it was decent. Baked beans and greens are canned. 3- Chicken, yams and mac/cheese. First of all look at the MAC... I mean look at it! It's old, dry and brown. It tasted like it was probably bussin the day before but today y'all burnt out for even pulling that out, warming it up and serving it. Yams are canned, no extra sugar, butter or anything. Just from the can to your plate. The chicken was good tho. You get 5 drums. That's the only part of the chicken they had... drums. We didn't even eat the cornbread because it was light and falling apart like it was also old. I'm really upset about that MAC tho!!

    FRIED CHICKEN YAMS AND GREENS

best fried chicken in the game home of the $10 plates better come get you some you will never be disappointed this was my first time and many more to come

I ordered gumbo and this is what I got, watered down bland rice, shrimp and potatoes, Ive never seen potatoes in gumbo. That's not what really bothered me, the broth tasted like water there was no texture, the gravy is supposed to be thick made with a roux this is disappointing and disgusting . I would have tried to eat it if it had flavor. Never going back. This is the second time being disappointed. It won't be a third.

Dirty chairs with flys all around the place

I wouldn't recommend, I was browsing the menu on a kiosk and while I was talking to my wife a worker approached me and rudely pointed to the front counter and said we could go up there, order our food and was told it would only be 15 Minutes as there's only two other family's in here at the moment. 45 minutes later I asked when the food was good be ready and they just kept telling me it's almost done and the flys in the building just keep landing on us which is kinda gross very disappointing as I was looking forward to this place

    Fried Salmon. Greens. & Mac!

I hate when I forget to take a picture of the food BEFORE I inhale it. Went to Melba's on Saturday, can't beat a $10 plate that serves 2 sides & a good portion of protein. Since they're only open on weekends I snatched me 2 plates. First - I got the fried salmon (they gave me two big pieces ), greens & mac . My 2nd plate - 5 generous pieces of bourbon chicken! I'm saying BIG A$$ PIECES (should probably pay more then $10 but let me shut up... ) they're $10 steal of deal is probably the smartest thing a restaurant can do! Everything was scrumptious, crispy, and flavorful...SoCal, don't sleep.

Fried chicken, greens, mac & cheese, and a slice of caramel crunch cake.

I make that statement with 45 years in food service and more pots of gravy behind me than I can count. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and it was certainly disappointing. The biscuit was very flat, with no lift or life to it. The gravy had a grayish color and a chunky texture that wasn't pleasant to look at. It lacked flavor, richness, and the depth you expect from a proper milk‑based gravy made with a roux from sausage drippings. Even the enjoyment of finding bits of sausage just wasn't there. I did speak to the owner about these issues. With a friendly smile, she mentioned another place I could visit. I'm not sure what she meant to communicate, but it came across as, "If you don't like it, go somewhere else," just delivered politely. On the positive side, John G. was right -- the service was very good, and the place was clean, including the restroom.

So good and delicious omg. Then for dinner I ordered the cheeseburger. Came with caramelized onions and thousand island dressing and all the regular toppings. It was good just a little messy. The seed was a black seed bun and that was awesome. Hadn't had one in ages. Then I ordered the onion rings instead of fries they were very good. Although I couldn't even eat half my food I went a head and ordered coffee cake and a cup of coffee. That was definitely different. The coffee cake comes with butter on top melting. A ton of cinnamon on top which is very powerful. The cake really has no sweetness. It's more a flat flavor with now cinnamon and loads of butter. It was way too powerful for me to eat. The coffee was fantastic. The service was amazing. I wished I'd caught our servers name but we were exhausted from our travels and basically just ate and ran. The restaurant is fun, there is old nostalgia all over of the car the Woody all over and other fun memorabilia. It's worth going. Because it's a fun place and no stress.
