Visited some friends for the 4th and stopped by this local spot -- great Mexican vibes! My wife had the tacos, which were awesome, and I went with the Tower 7 burrito, wet style -- super flavorful and filling. Everything about K38 is remarkable. I've never been in here and had a bad experience. Most recently, went in around 5 PM for dinner with 4 adults and a child. The server, was absolutely the sweetest ever. We all had meals, and when I tell you the speed was so quick and the food was on point. . Usually, with a high volume restaurant like this, you would think that there would be mishaps or mistakes. But Knot not here! If you're lucky enough to get Holly as your server, prepare yourself for an experience as zesty as the salsa and as smooth as the queso. From the moment she greeted our table with a "Hey, amigos!" I knew we were in good hands--mainly because she already had a basket of chips in one and a pitcher of margaritas in the other. Holly is part server, part stand-up comedian, and possibly part magician. She managed to take our complicated order without writing anything down, and everything came out perfect. Either she has a photographic memory or she made a deal with a taco-loving genie. When I asked for the spiciest salsa they had, she gave me a warning look and said, "Alright, but sign this waiver first." (She wasn't kidding. I think my soul briefly left my body.) She even checked in later to make sure I was still alive--now that's customer service. Holly also has an unmatched ability to read the room. She hyped up my friend's birthday like she was announcing a wrestling match, but when she saw my dad struggling with his fajitas, she gently offered to cut them up like he was a toddler (he declined, but I appreciated the effort). By the time the check came, I was half convinced we should invite Holly to our next family gathering. She's not just a server; she's the MVP of the whole restaurant. I ate here the other night. The service was okay. The food and lack of care is the main reason for the low rating. I had pulled pork taquitos. It sounded amazing but it was so dry that I took two bites and was done. I even dipped it in large amounts of sour cream and salsa and it couldn't save the dryness inside. The refried beans tasted like they were from a can. They lacked seasoning. My daughter got fruit with her kids meal and as soon as it came to the table I noticed mold on the raspberries. The fact that it came from the kitchen prep area, and in the hands of what I belive was an owner or manager to our table is pretty ridiculous. The molded fruit was at the very top of her fruit bowl for several sets of eyes to see. I immediately asked for fries instead because I didn't want to risk or trust in fruit again, but I was surprised to not receive any form of apology for the mishap. I also noticed kids sitting at the bar which I really don't have an issue with as long as they are attended too but I know its frowned upon at most restaurants. read more

Located in a nice shopping center right next to the hotel I stayed at in Wilmington. Came here with a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon and they were able to seat us right away! The seating was very tight so we had to split up and sit 5 and 3 people at different tables. So it ended up working out. The service was great and our server was very helpful! She brought us chips and salsa to start. They were both very good. Then I ordered the carne asada tacos with a side of refried beans. The food was ok. It was a little bland and the portions were small for the price. I also tried the street corn and it was really good. My vegetarian sister ordered a cheese quesadilla and there was a huge piece of meat in it. Good thing she opened it up before eating it. Overall, the food was decent and the service was great. My sister and I came here for an early dinner after a day at the beach, and we had a lovely experience. The complimentary chips and salsa are delicious. We first ordered a small guacamole to share, which was plenty for 2 people. We then both ordered 1 6" taco each (see pictures!). The tacos were so full, we had to eat some of it with forks first before we could eat it in its flour tortilla. These come with a side, and she chose the street corn, and I opted for the black beans. They do have outdoor dining but it shares outside space with Boombalati's so plan on lots of kids and other people coming and going with their ice cream. This was not as great and fantastic as the K38 I go to a lot at Porters Neck. But, it was still really good. It's much smaller but still has the great decor. Our food took a long time to come out tonight but it was delicious when it got there. I had the usual tuna wrap and my son had the mondo burrito. It was huge but it wasn't that great. I want to preface that none of the issues we had were our servers fault. It was completely out of her control. We waited two hours for any of our food. Our table was a six top and super understanding of the wait, they were understaffed but that being said when we finally did get our food (to go i might add) I asked for something to be comped at least our apps or some of our drinks and I was met with an argumentative, rude response from the manager. We were extremely kind about everything and kindly asked for something to be comped due to sitting for two hours. Just super disappointed in the service and attitude of staff. This is not a collective review. This is based on my previous visit from this weekend. We were out and about with our pup and wanted a quick lunch. We are happy to always eat texmex and needed some outside seating, I have always enjoyed absolutely everything from K-Bueno Mexican grill! It was a bit different this time, the quesadillas were very fatty, we had to pull out chunks of fat from each triangle. Which our dog was pretty happy about (ha). My tacos were beautiful but the fried fish was very flavorless and I added some extra toppings to add flavor (salad and black beans). I was dissatisfied this time but I know they can do better and will continue to give them another shot. read more

If I would've realized this restaurant was associated with the Baja grill on oleander I wouldn't have bothered. It's all just super Americanized and bland "Mexican" food. Paid $18 for two chorizo and shrimp tacos which was their special this weekend and I basically paid for two tortillas full of lettuce, two shrimp and a ton of onion straws. One of my tacos didn't even have chorizo. I'm not a complainer because I don't like to be a difficult customer so I ate them and they were fine but definitely not worth that price. Was also bummed out that their online menu didn't match what was in the restaurant. I was really looking forward to fajitas or something similar and was disappointed that the in person menu was much much smaller. I like to end on a good note because it was not a horrible experience. So they do have a great salsa and queso! And our waiter was very nice. Everything was clean and didn't feel crowded. The outdoor area was large and clean. Ok. I'd been doing errands and hadn't eaten all day. I was "hangry" and craving Mexican. I was contemplating options when- behold! Across the parking lot I spotted a K-38. I'm typically a strictly Mexican owned and operated customer. I've lived quite close to the Mexican border in what seems like another life now. Anyway? I've had good experiences at Oleander location with friends so? Growling stomach leads the way. It was mid afternoon and I feared I'd be the lone guest keeping folks from clocking out. It was slow but I was received warmly. I wanted to give the menu a good read so- despite my hunger- I took my time. I ordered a draft brew to sip with my fresh chips and delicious salsa. I decided on one of three options and consulted my competent and knowledgeable server Riley. I appreciated her wise advice and restrained myself on the massive order my stomach begged for. The bronzed mahi taco (corn tortilla) with rice was wonderful! In fact? With the dark Pacifico, water, inhalation of chips? I only half finished my taco and just dented my chosen side of Mexican rice (not my favorite version but fine). I decided to request my chips and salsa plus remaining taco and rice to go. Additionally? I asked for an order of the pinto beans (pro tip? My preference over the rice) Dinner? Yes please. I was pleasantly surprised with my "Gringo" Mexican experience. The service was excellent. I was a very comfortable table for one. The food was good the first and second time around. I'll try the enchiladas next time (a dish I sometimes don't find in my "authentic favorites). I'm happy to have a pop in spot near an errand location. I just moved to the area and decided to check out this place as it is within walking distance. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded in the restaurant. I was immediately seated and served chips and salsa which was very impressive. I ordered a side of queso because that's the only way to enjoy Mexican food! I liked that they offered different sizes as well. I opted for the 2oz as I was dining alone and knew that would be more than enough. Once the queso came out, I ordered the baja fish tacos for my meals with the grater tots. The food was brought out within 5 minutes and was piping hot. I was impressed with the size of the tacos. I ordered the 4in size but they were loaded. It was topped with fried cod, purple cabbage, cheese, and tomatoes. And it was delicious! The grater tots were amazing too. I loved the malt vinegar dressing it came with for dipping. The tots are basically potatoes and cheese fried together in greatness. Very very tasty! It was only one corn tortilla per taco and I'm used to two corn tortillas for an individual taco . It was a little annoying to hold the overflowing filling with just one small corn tortilla. The carne asada meat had a decent flavor but nothing to rave about. I thought there was just a bit too much avocado and the lime slices that accompanied the tacos were pathetically small. So, I paused for margarita and chips and salsa pics and forgot the rest. I don't know how I don't have more pics other than the food is just that good. We don't live in Wilmington anymore, but any chance we have to make it back, we make kBueno our first stop. The flavors are cools and fresh. Always fresh. The chicken is marinated in some way that I have yet to replicate and is legit. I typically opt for steak when going to other Mexican spots, but here it's all out the chicken and fish. The pork options are solid too, if you're into that. You can't go wrong with the queso, tacos, quesadillas or salads. They also have weekly specials and those are pretty solid too. The wannabe margarita is my go to. Made fresh in house mix is definitely the secret sauce and is so light for the summer! The staff is on point, but the place is smaller. Prepare in advance during summers, holidays and graduation, but you definitely need to make this your first stop if you're looking for Baja Fresh Mex. read more

Stopped in for lunch on the way to the beach and was excellent choice. A busy place, for good reason, the food was full of good flavor and the service was good as well. We shared chips with guac, salsa and queso. A great start to our meal. I ordered the Cabo seafood with beer battered cod and grilled shrimp. It also included avocado, cabbage for crunch and aioli on a corn taco. Love that they have so many delicious options. Don't expect to be able to pick up to eat, a bit too messy so fork and knife it like I did. They have daily specials and full bar to help wash it all down including margaritas of course. I hate giving this place a bad review because I love the owners and their other restaurants are great. But this place isn't Mexican. Its tex-mex at best and over uses the combo of bbq sauce with cheddar cheese. Drinks are kinda weak, and meals don't seem to come with rice...plus u have to pay for salsa!! Come on now. One of their apps us just a toasted piece of Texas toast with BBQ and cheese...wtf?! Go to K-38!! Or Tower 7...theyre farrrrr better. I dont really know how this spot has stayed open read more

I have struggled deciding whether or not to leave a review, but ultimately would be a disservice not to. We used to regularly go to KBueno, but sometime in the last 10-12 months (5-10 visits) things started consistently going downhill. Are there new owners?? The level of service has significantly declined, but more importantly the quality of food/recipes have been altered (quite obviously for inferior ingredients/cuts of meat or seafood), surely in hopes of increasing profit margins. While the profit margins may be increasing, the customers will be decreasing. Sad to say that we won't be going to KBueno anymore. read more

We had such a great time here! We went in for an early lunch last Sunday, and we were seated right away. Chips and salsa were brought over immediately. I ordered a sangria, which they have on special on Sundays, and my boyfriend ordered a Dos Equis. Both came a couple of minutes later. The sangria was really, really good. We had checked out the pics on Yelp before we came in, so we knew the street corn was a must have. We ordered an appetizer of street corn, and he also ordered a small side of queso for the chips. Deciding on the meal was much more difficult. There is a variety of options to choose from, and several of them looked good. I decided to get two shrimp tacos, partly because a) I love shrimp and b) you get a side with it! When the street corn came out, you could smell the char on it and all the good flavors. That was honestly some of the best corn on the cob I'd ever had. The queso was really good, but I don't think it was worth the price. Our entrees came out next. My tacos were stuffed full. I noticed that they had butterflied the shrimp, to make the shrimp go even further, which I loved. I'd never noticed another place doing that. The tacos were very delicious. I wish that the slice of lime that came with it were bigger. I do like that extra squeeze of freshness on my food, and those slices were just pitiful. My side of grater tots were amazing! The only way to describe them is little balls of mashed potato heaven! They were seriously light and fluffy and delicious My boyfriend enjoyed his tacos, and he had gotten the side of onion straws, which were also good. We went for dinner last night and every single bad thing that could happen in a dining experience did: the waitress wasn't friendly, she forgot my husband's drink, our tacos took forever, the order was wrong, the food was cold (like cold carne asada and chicken), AND she over charged us. They didn't have the manager come apologize. They didn't comp us anything. I'm not looking for handouts, but when you screw up this bad and we still have to pay for an expensive meal, it leaves you bitter.
