We got our daughter's ice cream cake from Meletharb and couldn't be happier! She got to choose her flavors, the inside candy, and the colors for the little bobbles on top of the cake. The cake tasted amazing and was easy to warm up enough to eat without melting too fast. Now that we had the cake we're frequent patrons and love everything we've tried. A personal favorite is Almond Biscotti, a unique flavor I haven't seen anywhere else and cannot get enough of! My wife heard about Meletharb and we decided to give it a try. It's in a little strip mall right on Lowell Street, easy to find. There are some tables available to eat inside. The ice cream is very good and some of the flavors are not your run of the mill ice cream shop. Service was quick and friendly; the downer was the size of the serving. Another ice cream shop in Bedford serves the same two scoops for a little more and it dwarfs Meletharb's cone. I saw in another review that the owner of Cal's got his start here. That makes sense as their servings are undersized by comparison as well. I'm glad we tried it, but, there's more bang for the buck to be had elsewhere. read more

I was introduced to Meletharb by a good friend who lives in the area and considers it an institution in his family. Well now, I completely understand why. OMG this ice cream is good! Arguably one of the best in this part of the state. They have great flavor selections, and it is just the perfect consistency. Great service, the price was right - what more could you want! His only advice to us was to try the sweet cream flavor, and boy was he right. Make sure you get at least one scoop of that one to compliment your cone! This is one of those places where the service sucks but you don't care too much because the product is so good. This is delicious, creamy ice cream served by college kids who looked annoyed that you're there. I was overcharged by one guy who doesn't know what he's doing but I didn't realize what happened until I left and I didn't go back to fix it so I'm not going to bash the whole place for that experience. Fantastic home made ice cream with unusual flavors. Love coming here even if it's a bit out of our way. We've been coming here for years and used to talk to the previous owner all the time. I'm happy that they are still being managed well but I miss the quirky sculptures that were hung around the place. It's rare to find Sweat Cream but they have it. The star flavor is the Baklava. Fantastic and unusual and my wife's favorite. I'm a Muzzy Cup man, the sweet cream base frees up the peanut butter bios to come through amazingly. Of couch my daughter is all over the Nutella flavor. The White Pistachio is another good choice as is the Crazy Swasey. Grapenut is so unusual and I like it. I could go on and on. We usually get something to eat there then bring home a new flavor each to try out. Such a treat. I've never seen such a diverse list of flavors and the thing is they all taste good because they're well thought out pairings. The stupifyingly amazingly amazing ice cream they create should be on the list of top ten most dangerous substances known to mankind. My waistline doesn't stand a chance. I believe they use wizardry and ancient incantations to create each flavor. Nothing in my life can compare to the pure bliss upon endulging myself with a quart of their Baklava ice cream. Baklava is my favorite desert of all time, but this is like someone took Baklava, stirred it in a witches brew, doused it with dragon essence, cast spells on it under a blue moon, infused it with unspeakable heavenly goodness, turned it into ice cream and now have turned me raving mad with desire. If I had a choice between saving my family from an avalanche or eating a pint of Baklava ice cream, I would happily grab a spoon and dug in while all those ingrates get crushed. The girls working there were also so nice and explained everything to me. OMG the most amazing ice cream cake I've ever had! I had read about these babies a long time ago and dropped some hints around my birthday last year - unsuccessfully. So I was a bit less subtle this year (read: demanding) and sure enough my SO delivered. You can customize the cake with your choice of up to 2 ice cream flavors and a few different options for the layer in between. He made a fantastic selection! Chocolate peanut butter cup on the bottom, Oreo cookie crumble middle, vanilla chocolate chunk on top. Soooooooo good. I think the frosting flowers were dark chocolate peanut butter too for an added special touch. This will definitely be the new birthday tradition from here on out! One of our favorite ice creams spots in the greater Boston area. Totally worth the drive. We love the PB Oreo and crazy Swazey the best! There's always a line when we go, but moves pretty quickly. Hadn't been there in awhile decided to stop by for a cone. Ordered a kiddie (1scoop) and a small (2 scoops). There honestly wasn't much difference between the 2 cones and the scoops were pretty small. We got them in cones, tried peeling the paper wrapper off, couldn't get it off the bottom third of the cone, ended up tossing them. I will say the ice cream was good but the portions kind of small and for 11 bucks it was disappointing. Too bad but there are other ice cream shops that give you the value for your money. read more

This ice cream spot had come highly recommended to us and after a family emergency, we realized that we weren't far away from it. Our party of three arrived at 9:55 and the "Closed" sign was out and the door was already locked. We stayed there for a moment, thinking that the young women working might see us and open back up, considering that it wasn't yet 10pm. No such luck. We've been regular customers since they opened in their original location (i.e., in downtown Wakefield), and the gentleman who opened the shop would always come and sit with our family of 6 at our table. My dad absolutely loved him and the experience he created for our entire family. Now as an adult, with my own family, the tradition continues. Our favorite flavors are Oreo, Sweet Cream, Baklava, and Strawberry. We've get our birthday cakes here every year, too! Two things others have mentioned in their reviews are just par for the course for us: busyness and cost. Yes, there's always a line--which tells you how much *other* folks love Meletharb ice cream, too, but it really does move quickly. And yes, it's expensive, but it's not any more expensive than getting ice cream in an actual brick-and-mortar Ben & Jerry's. Plus, it's worth it to get homemade ice cream, rather than the Richardson's mixes everyone else serves. Those mixes are good, too, but once you try Meletharb's, it's like trying to compare a $10 bottle of wine to the good stuff. To keep costs lower, we typically get two quarts to go of our favorite flavors--which feeds our ice-cream-loving family of four for a few nights and for much less than buying four individual cones. Faced with an extra half-hour to bust before our class at TSNY Beantown, I was forced to resort to extreme measures to find a quick filler to-do item. Enter: Yelp Mobile. After a simple yet sumptuous lazy afternoon brunch at City Girl Café, I hunted down a desserterie near the trapeze school; lo and behold, there's Meletharb's with its glowing five stars and scrumptious reviews. Who am I to turn down the opportunity for frozen creamy decadence on a beautiful, sun-drenched Saturday? Meletharb delivers. It's super cute. The flavors for ice cream and frozen yogurt (and various other chilled treats) are arrayed on a modular board to accommodate whatever most current selection of flavors are available. And those options are veritably endless, to suit nearly any palate. I opted for a small (with two scoops) with baklava (innovative!) and goose tracks (mini peanut butter cups in fudge ice cream). My favorite, by far, was the baklava, though. Mildly sweet from the honey, and great flaky, crusty texture from the chopped baklava. Plus, who makes baklava ice cream? Delicious! In fact, it was so good that I dragged the boy back here after TSNY for ice cream sandwiches ($1.30 each!), which were shockingly agreeable after a workout.
