So we have lived in Wakefield since before Meletharbs changed owners and for me it has gone down hill for a number of reasons. I drive past it probably 5 times a day everyday and it always saddens me to see the chairs on the tables well before their closing time. There have been many times I've not gone in because I felt put off by the chairs up. Also what ice cream shop is closed on July 4th and Labor Day?!?! I'm not always in town on those holidays but if I am I would totally get ice cream! Additionally, I feel like they have cut some corners in the quality. The flavors are not as flavorful, the toppings are not as high quality, like they are using non brand name candy etc. even some of the slush seems lower quality or is not being kept at the proper temp so it's icy and not smooth. For the price you charge for ice cream, please don't get greedy and bring back the quality the Meletharbs name you bought deserves! Please!! read more

We came on a delightfully warm January day when this very pregnant mom was dying for ice cream. The staff is super friendly, and there were many available tables, even with how busy it was. We have come to lovingly refer to this place as 'Meth lab ice cream' because: 1) That is literally what the first word looks like at quick glance (or am I just slightly dyslexic?), 2) I'm not really sure how to pronounce their REAL name, and 3) Their ice cream is addictive as heck... so it fits. In all seriousness though, this place is a fun little local joint in Wakefield that is worth a visit if you're looking for a cute and quirky ice cream shop. The prices seem to trend a bit more towards the JP Licks level than your typical mom & pop shop, but it's not quite enough to be a real deterrent. The ice cream itself is tasty, with plenty of flavors at any given time to choose from. I've also tried their ice cream cakes before, including one that was made with their peanut butter Oreo ice cream - I'm not usually a big peanut butter fan, but... wow, that was some real deliciousness (note that their cakes are a bit pricey as well - but they're a a fun once-in-a-while treat). The service has always been friendly when I've come in, with crowd levels ranging from 'pretty quiet' to 'I think every teenager in Wakefield is in here right now' (with the latter hopefully being a bit of a one-off, fingers crossed...). I also appreciate that they are open year round (don't gimmie any of that "ice cream is only for summer" baloney!), though they do extend their hours in the summer for maximum ice cream enjoyment potential. Meletharb's is by far my favorite ice cream joint. I just went for my first dose of the summer of '07, and got an awesome Black Cherry Chip... a great thing about the location is that it's a short hop skip and jump from the lake, so you can grab a 'scream and go eat it while watching everyone else walk around the lake. Or you could even walk around after your treat to get a little exercise! They have lots of great flavors, some of my other favorites are Peach and Sweet Cream. They make their ice cream themselves so they can't really compete price-wise against a shop that buys Richardson's, Baskin Robbins or whatever. So this was my 2nd experience at Meletharb's and if my first one was like my second one...well, I'd probably be the dutchess of this place, but since my first experience soured me...I'll tread lightly on my admiration at this point. First time I went in there, it was a hot summer day in August, early afternoon, and they were unapologetically out of every flavor I asked for. I mean, come on, it's a hot summer day...obviously people are going to want ice cream. Make more of your popular flavors. Regardless, I ended up with a coconut something or other and it was good, but I was annoyed. Now fast forward a couple of years and my hubby and I want some ice cream, but we are not interested in driving to Richardson's in traffic. He suggests Meletharbs...I cave. Mind you, I did call first ask if they were out of anything. They were fully stocked so we went! I tried the Baklava (after reading Yelp reviews raving about it), and the Nutella. Both were tasty and I ended up buying the Baklava and the hubs for Coffee Oreo. Also very very good. The Baklava actually has chunks of the pastry through it. They also have a cannoli ice cream that I can't wait to try. The staff was nice and accommodating. Meletharb is a small, bright little shop located in a strip mall in Wakefield. The servers were not too friendly but they serve up a baklava ice cream that is absolutely to die for! It is the richest, creamiest vanilla ice cream with large pieces of chopped up baklava and honey swirled through. So unique, original and delicious! They're a little pricey, at $4 for a small, but the small is fairly large and the ice cream is soooo worth it! You will not be disappointed! read more

I've been coming here since I was a little kid, and it's always been my favorite place. There is nothing better than a raspberry lime ricky on a hot summer day. It's perfect. Where do you go to get THE BEST ice cream ever? Meletharbs! I'm serious. Wakefield, MA isn't exactly the place you'd expect to find it, but it's true. I was lucky enough to grow up with Meletharbs in my neighborhood and I even worked there with friends in high school. Everytime I come home, a Meletharbs visit is in order. I recommend: * the Oreo icecream. This is not your "cookies-in-cream" vanilla icecream with a few crumbles of Oreo. This is jam packed with so many Oreos that the icecream is a brownish-grey color. I have never had better Oreo icecream. * hot fuge sundaes - just the right proportions of ice cream, generous hot fudge, and whipped cream. * their ice cream cakes!! Always a favorite in our family. Get two flavors (I'm particular to oreo and strawberry) and I recommend a layer of hot fudge in the middle. Made with whipped cream frosting and whipped cream and hot fudge florets, you cannot go wrong. * Meletharbs makes lime rickeys & raspberry lime rickeys just like the old soda fountains used to. Very thirst quenching and delicious. Also, Meletharbs has funky artsy decor which I totally appreciate... little sculptures and artwork, cherry yellow walls. It's the best! read more

Found out about this place about a year ago when I happened upon an ice cream blog. Baklava ice cream? I've thought about that intriguing combo since, and finally made the 45 minute trek out there today. Arrived just after it opened and hubby and I were the only customers. The two employees were very friendly and I ordered a medium baklava in a cup, hubster had the white pistachio. My ice cream was fabulously creamy and rich, and the large chunks of baklava were generously sprinkled throughout. Somehow, the baklava retains it's crispness but is chewy at the same time. I have found ice cream nirvana! Hubby was very happy with his choice, and proclaimed it to be among the best ice cream he's ever had. We took home a quart of the baklava, the white pistachio, and the nutella. The nutella is divinely creamy and decadent. Prices are a little steep, but the quality is excellent with many unique flavor choices. I can image the lines here get crazy in the summertime, but we will definitely venture this way over and over again for some ice cream heaven! read more

I love the real chunks of baklava in their baklava ice cream. I also love their kaluha brownie fudge, it has a real coffee flavor. This place is small and doesn't have public restrooms, even if you buy ice cream they tell you to go to the gas station near the corner.
