The base cream was not heavy at all while preserving the richness you'd expect from premium ice cream. Parking is a bit awkward and I ended up across the street at the CVS which seemed like is where everyone parks. I went for the mocha chip which was good. The coffee flavor was not overpowering (even though I love a punch in the face with coffee flavor). This was a great disappointment because I love Ice Cream, it's right down the street and there's plenty of parking. I asked the girl for a Hot Fudge Sunday with marshmallows and Hot fudge. She didn't ask me if I wanted whippped cream but I thought that's what a Hot Fudge Sunday was: Ice Cream, Hot Fudge and Whipped Cream. She told me two sizes and I chose what I thought was the smaller of the two. It wasn't. Maybe she should of held up the two cups. Anyway, what she brought back and presented was horrifying. I got a sundae with Moose Tracks, Oreo pieces, hot fudge, and a brownie. Of course I love Moose Tracks and Oreos, so that was good, but the brownie was a particularly great. I was expecting the usual gas station wrapped brownie, but I was very pleasantly surprised to taste a Duncan Hines/ Betty Crocker boxed mix brownie. It was a very nice change. That's the good part. Unfortunately, there were more negatives than positives. The lesser offense was the presentation. As a place that doesn't make their own ice cream, I'd expect presentation to be a priority, but based on my own dish and the others I saw from the long line ahead of me, it isn't high on their to-do list. My sundae was crammed in to the regular size to the point where I was given a side cup of the majority of the Oreos I ordered as a topping. It should have been in the jumbo cup. I also requested hot fudge, but the only fudge I could find was at the very bottom between the ice cream and the brownie. It was so little, I almost missed it. My guess is that their plan was to pour more on the top after adding the ice cream, but they realized the cup was too small to allow the proper amount of room. They must have decided that the drizzle in between the layers was enough. And truly, it might have been had I not paid extra for said fudge. Finally, the ratio of ice cream to brownie was way off, though to be fair, this probably wouldn't have been such a big issue if the worker had used the appropriate size cup. As it was, it was impossible to get a proper spoonful of the whole dessert: toppings, fudge (what little there was), ice cream, and brownie. I had to eat each section in almost isolation, which meant when I finally got to the brownie, it had all become sickening. I found myself having to remove a good third of the ice cream to enjoy the combo. Having to give up so much of one of my favorite treats cast a dark shadow on the whole experience. But that isn't the reason I decided to write this review. The reason I felt compelled to leave a review was due to the trace allergens I detected in my dessert. I clearly tasted and saw mint chocolate chip ice cream, most likely transfer from a previous order. I should have taken a picture because I saw a streak of that signature green, but I thought maybe I had imagined it. It wasn't until I strongly tasted the mint that I realized what I'd seen. Around the same time, I tasted walnuts. I know Massachusetts only requires a restaurant to display a warnings to inform a server if you have allergies, but that doesn't mean that it's okay to have even trace amounts of walnuts in what I took to be a completely nut free dessert. Given that there were no actual obvious pieces of walnut, I can only assume it came from another order (walnuts are an optional topping). Perhaps some walnuts were in the machine or Tupperware they used to crush the Oreo toppings? Regardless, trace amounts are one thing, but I tasted the nut at least twice and even my boyfriend noticed the mint without my provocation (he didn't notice the walnut, but he only got a little bit of brownie--where the walnut flavor was most pronounced--because, well, I really love brownies) One trace ingredient I can understand is a mistake, but two is sloppy. Luckily, I'm not allergic to anything, because it could have been very bad. Overall, as an ice cream parlor with a plethora of options, Nanabette's was a solid choice, but I don't think it deserves anything special or a dedicated detour. At least, not without their employees (or at the very least, the employee who made my sundae) completing a course on limiting contaminations. read more

I live right down the street from this place! It has been around for over 12 years that I'd have been living in this city. And I'm sure much longer! Nanabette's can be found on Main Street across from Walgreens and Giovanni's. It is an outdoor joint that serves ice cream and other food items. On the outside it is pink and green and has a few picnic tables on the side for customers. One hot summer nights this place is always busy. I have no complaints about the staff they have always been nice and friendly to me. The staff are usually high school age kids in the area but they are always professional or as professional you have to be to serve ice cream. Nanabette's has tons of choices! They have hard ice cream's, soft serve, slush, pops, sundaes, flurries and more! My new favorite is coffee Oreo ice cream in a cone. I would say their portions are regular compared to ice cream places in the area. Compared to other ice cream places I have been to their prices are a little high. Overall Nanabette's is close and convenient for me and the ice cream is good quality with friendly service so I can't complain about having such a great place within walking distance from my home. read more

Part of me feels rude giving Nanabette's only two stars, but it really isn't great even though we go a few times a year. This isn't a complaint because my kids like it - they have the same ice cream for kids that you can get from the ice cream truck. Portions are huge for sundaes, so that's a plus. However, the soft serve isn't ice cream. I don't know what it is, but it tastes like creamy ice. ... which I recognize is the opposite way of saying ice cream. Listen, just trust me on this. It tastes more like ice than cream. They use what tastes like natural peanut butter on their Reese's sundae, which, like, again, is not a bad thing in and of itself but it's not that really salty flavor you want to balance the sweetness of the ice cream. I'm always really excited to go to Nanabette's but then feel underwhelmed after. Also, they don't just keep napkins on the counter, so when your kids are suddenly covered in ice cream, you have to go back to get napkins but they'll only give you like three tiny ones, so you have to go back again and again and when the lines are long, this is a pain for everyone. And the tables are next to the dumpster in what's essentially an alley, so it can get kind of gross in the heat of the summer. Maybe just get it to go. I don't know. I know I'm going to keep going to Nanabette's because it's convenient to our house and it's fun to get ice cream outside in the summer, but there's definitely room for improvement. read more
