I had never done boudoir photography before, and Melissa was such a wonderful photographer to start with. The experience was so comfortable and glamourous. The session starts with makeup (from fantastic makeup artist, Marlo) and chatting, which really put me at ease. Then Melissa taught me the basics of posing and walked me through the whole shoot. Then we work together to make beautiful photos! I was so focused on the creative aspect that it didn't even occur to me to be self-conscious until an hour in, and even then I just thought "Weird, I don't feel self-conscious at all." The shoot itself was totally fun and nourishing, so the photos felt like icing. It's such a trip to see my body looking completely itself but so incredible. Melissa is great at posing and I'd never seen myself at these great angles before. Before the shoot, I dealt with a lot of fears and anxieties I didn't even realize I had about my body. Now, these photos are an invitation to step into this amazing body and own it. I had an amazing experience for my first (and not last) boudoir photo shoot. Melissa is very friendly and open. We started with an introduction phone call to answer questions, discuss wardrobe and what styles of photos I liked. There were very clear instructions for what to do and not do in the week, days, hours leading up to the photo shoot. Upon arrival, Melissa made me feel so comfortable. The stylist also was fabulous, I didn't want to feel too 'done up' and the make-up looked very natural while making me look better than I did on my wedding day. Melissa helped narrow down my wardrobe choices and reviewed how to pose prior to taking photos. She gave great feedback throughout the session and was professional. Mel is incredible. I was SO anxious going into the shoot and really didn't know what to expect. Mel made it a blast and made everything feel so comfortable, carefree and fun. Half of my photos ended up with me cracking up candids as we had so much fun. Then I got my photos back and I was completely blown away. I wanted to do a photo shoot to celebrate a special occasion, even though this is pretty far out of my comfort zone. All the great advice for preparing ahead of time helped me feel as confident as possible, a feeling that was enhanced the day of when Mel walked through the whole process before filming started. I am a mother of 4. I was a big girl for most of my life. 10 years ago I had the gastric bypass. I have never been comfortable in my own skin, even after the surgery.
