Just spent an hour waiting on one sandwich, in the end it wasn't even the "right" sandwich, I had ordered a jerk tofu hoagie, but got some kind of seitan sub instead. I've been going to Mellow Mushroom much longer than I've been a Yelper. I'm not much of a pizza girl but when I want great pizza with atmosphere, I'm headed downtown. I love pretty much all of the downtown establishments and it's my favorite area to get food. I've been to the Evans location and a few in other cities, this location is the best. I love the food; exceptional pies (favorite these days is the Holy Shiitake), great calzones and really good munchies. I haven't tried the salads or desserts. I think I'll definitely try the salad next time. I think the customer service is great. They're attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. I like when the server can tell me what they like because they've tried just about everything. The ambience is nice during the early and late evening hours even for folks that don't drink (me). 5 stars BECAUSE... 1. I checked in with Yelp and I was offered a free Greek Salad = they appreciate their customers. 2. The salad exceeded my expectations for a "free" salad. I expected something inferior, but I was surprised to see the veggies were fresh and hearty. The combination of flavors exploded tart and tang on my delicate palate. 3. They have a creative assortment of pizzas, this was the first hint to me that they actually care about what they do; they think outside the box. I selected the Thai Dye. 4. The crust and most importantly the bottom part of the crust was consistently firm. At no point was it soggy. I was able to pick up a slice and not have it droop-drip to my mouth. While usually I enjoy Mellow Mushroom in downtown Augusta and 90% of the time get good service and good food- a recent experience is turning me from this location. I called in an order for a pizza and pretzel bites to go, told it would be about 35-40 mins. I dropped in about 10 mins earlier than it should have been done but it was already waiting for me to take. Thinking this was a good thing- I paid and left. When I opened it to eat, the dough was under cooked, with partial raw dough in the crust. Super disappointing! I hope it's just a one time thing. But it deters me from wanting to go to that location again. read more

Mellow Mushroom is one of my favorite restaurants. This location is the downtown Augusta location, which is pretty popular all year. I visited recently with my sister and we decided to try almost everything with mushrooms. Typically, I order a club, but now I'm a transitioning vegetarian. I tried the Tempeh Club and the Magic Mushroom Soup. They were both awesome. My sister ordered the Stuffed Portobello and a Mushroom pizza. I tried it and liked it! I like the staff here. The restaurant is large and clean. I like to sit in the booth near the windows to watch the downtown car and pedestrian traffic. It has also started to get warmer, so I look forward to taking advantage of the outdoor seating. The parking situation is not ideal, but it is downtown. You can find parking fairly easily after 5pm. But during the lunch hour or on weekends the search is harder. Overall, I still visit because the great food outweighs it all. read more

Disney-esque decorations, trippy expanded menu but at the core, it's still that same amazing dough. Proof: the house calzone is almost exactly the same as I remember from time gone by, if nothing else, improving with age. Spinach, mushrooms, Roma tomatoes, and loads of mozz wrapped in that culinarily-indelible spring water dough, slit and baked to slightly under-perfection. Plus, red sauce. A terrific red sauce. It's the equivalent of a small pizza, which means you'll probably get two meals out of it. Especially if you start off with Chuck's Wild Garlic Balls. Which you might. Because dough. Nostalgia aside, it's warm, comfortable FOOD food. You'll like it - it's impossible not to. Maybe you can find cheaper options, but they won't have the love. Traveled here today for a coworkers going away lunch, and I must say the food was great. We had a party of 9 or so and were seated immediately. The waitress came promptly to take our drink orders and answer any questions that we had. We placed our orders(I chose the jerk chicken sandwich), and waited, and waited, and waited for our food to come. As stated earlier, this was a lunch out so we were on a time crunch so long time to get our food was rather inconvenient. For this I had to knock a star but once I finally received my food(which I had to change to a to-go order due to time), it was really tasty. The sandwich was PACKED with flavor and everyone else was pleased with their dishes as well. I wouldn't recommend mellow for groups during lunch time, unless you have a very long lunch planned, but I'll definitely be back for dinner sometimes as the food was so fresh tasting and delicious that I have to assume that it why it takes a while to receive the food. read more

I was in South Carolina visiting family and we decided to take the short journey over the bridge to come to Augusta and try some local fare. Little did I know we were going to the Mellow Mushroom that I was all familiar with. I have been to the MM several times in Denver and wanted to see if the experience was consistent. I really was a huge fan of the "divey" feeling of the pizza joint. Our bartender was on point, she made some great recommendations and even made sure we were comfortable with what we ordered. I had a HUGE salad and a pizza and had the opportunity to taste the wings and the gluten free pizza, both of which were delicious. The space was set up for 2 people seated approximately 10-ft apart. We were told we could not sit next to each other...we arrived in the same car & live in the same house, what do you mean we can't sit next to each other. Ambiance: very nice. Kinda of a bohemian retreat. Great to sit at the bar and have cocktails and eat there or they also have a nice sit down area to bring the friends too. Lots of friendly smiling faces, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves which gives it an up upbeat environment. Food: looks deish. Took the two pies home where everyone thoroughly enjoyed them. I ordered the house special, 16 inch, and it was filled with tasty items. The crust was very enjoyable and did not get wasted. The other pie was a Hot Wing pizza. This is pie was requested to be crispy. It was both crispy and delicious with a kick from the Tabasco sauce and Ranch Dressing on the top. They have an intense beer list which always gives me butterflies when I look at it and they have a full bar as well! Amazing food that I've tried here and that I would cry over: Meatball appetizer- They are huge meatballs split in half with Mozzarella in between! The marinara sauce that comes with- compliments the dish soooo well! Great pizza place! Mellow Mushroom is a chain but not like dominos or pizza hut. They are a step above for sure. They aren't just a pizza place. Their salads are pretty good and they have an awesome beer selection. Good beer and good pizza? What more could you want? What I like most about their pizza is the dough. The crust is nice and crisp on the outside while still soft and chewy on the inside. The dough also tastes great aside from having great texture. The topping and sauce they use is definitely good too. I really do like this place. It's the kind of place you can go with your friends to grab dinner and hang out or take your family to. It's also a good place to start a Friday or Saturday night out. They're down town, right on broad street. So, you can grab dinner and some beers here right before you head to the bars. The only reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. We got a large specialty pizza (which wasn't even THAT big) for $26 after tax. Between my girlfriend and I, there are only a few slices left. For that price, I would have hoped for a bigger pizza. BUT, the pizza is good, the location rocks, and the beers are awesome. So 4/5 stars, I'd definitely recommend this place, and I'll also definitely be back. read more

This is already not my favorite pizza places so when I come here I want it to be a good experience. When we arrived and sat down it took 10 minutes of waiting for me to actually get up and ask to even be waited on. I was expecting for the host to apologize and be somewhat nice, but instead wasn't friendly at all and said she'd send somebody. And when the waiter FINALLY came she was not nice at all. Audrey was terrible. She took my drink to refill it and came back without it 5 minutes later. When I reminded her of my drink, she ran and grabbed it. She had refilled it, left it on the counter and had the audacity to try and give me that same drink. There's no telling what had happened to that drink while it was sitting. She brought out a entree as an appetizer, so by the time everyone else's food got to the table, it was cold. I gave two stars because our pizza was good and hot.
