Good pizza tonight at Mellow. I opted for the one with blue cheese and andouille sausage and shrimp. While tasty, it was a little on the wet side. Service was great and the restaurant was pretty comfortable with the noise factor. Until... trivia time. Entire experience w/ 10yr old daughter was on-point at MM! I kept hearing about the Richmond location. I just "happened" to be staying at a hotel close by so.. Why not!? We were pleasantly greeted. Ambiance is that of the "free bird" psychedelic age which is totally cool IMO and colorful for younger folk. Waiter, Johnny, was extremely patient and pleasant to work with. His suggestions were spot-on for me(the not so hungry ate three different menu items customer). Ordered the Magic Mushroom soup, pretzel app (which is the pizza dough), Shrimp Rajas Salad, pepperoni pizza, & Key Lime Pie for dessert! Everything was sooooooo delicious from start to finish! Soup was cream based & full of flavor! The salad was one of the best I've had! It had shrimp, sautéed poblano peppers, sautéed onions & mushrooms, crunchy sesame seeds, fresh spring mix lettuce. I diced the salad to evenly distribute all of the flavors. I also asked for the dressing on the side. Josh, the manager, came around to introduce himself and find out how we were. Was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived in Florence! They had great lunch specials and also do call in orders, which is convenient if you're short on time. They do get a little crowded in the evenings sometimes and it can be hard to find a place to park. It's very clean, they have tons of vegetarian options and gluten-free pizza crust too. Some of my favorite menu items include the tempeh hoagie, the small pizzas (I get veggie pizzas... the small is HUGE, enough for two people), and the tomato bisque soup. read more

We are on the road and my husband wanted a pizza and when I said a Mellow Mushroom was near on Yelp.... he said let's go! I never have eaten at one so I was game. We ordered the "lil" salads-Caesar and chief salad! They were $5-5.25 and mine was wonderful! It was huge and had lots of ham, cheeses and a good dressing; the only thing-i pulled out old lettuce from the mix (a peeve of mine, browned lettuce)! We ordered a medium white pizza $18 and we ate our big salads and we waited and waited and waited! I'm not sure here but 35-40 minutes for a pizza seems long! I've never waited that long for pizza before at other places?! I looked around- not packed- some people but tables free?? So who knows? The pizza was tasty; the crust light and a bit sweet-medium pizza was suppose to be 8 slices ours was cut into six so they we're big slices...maybe it was just that sort of night! read more

Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to eat at this location. Our party of 9 arrived shortly before 4 to celebrate our grandsons birthday. We were told it was shift change so it would be just a few minutes. We agreed. I walked to the restroom and counted all 4 tables currently occupied and consuming food. Three booths with two occupants each and the big family in the railcar/trolley eating and laughing which reminded me a bit of our family. As I approached the hostess station once again we had been informed it would be at least 35 minutes to seat us just as they were seating the only other party of 2 to arrive. Now, we have three teenage boys in our group of nine so imagine the amount of food we were preparing to consume. Instead we left the near-empty restaurant and headed elsewhere. Clearly, Mellow Mushroom either does not need customers or they pick and choose those they wish to serve, so perhaps rethink your decision to dine here before you waste your time. The 3 stars is due to the service I received recently for lunch and dinner. First I had lunch and ordered a sandwich off the $7.99 lunch menu. With about 8 different hoagies and sandwiches to chose from, I ordered the chicken curry sandwich with roasted potatoes. What I received was a thin layer of chicken salad and lettuce on wheat bread, and tasteless roasted potatoes that were not fully cooked. I did express my dissatisfaction with both issues to the bartender, who shared it with the cook staff. They accepted my feedback and offered it as a free lunch. Good job to rectify the situation, but the bartender did not own any part of it. She admitted she noticed the thin filled sandwich and still served it. Gee thanks. Since I worked late, I returned to Mellow Mushroom for dinner and sat at the busy bar again. This time I ordered the mighty meat pizza and beer. Both were perfect, served hot and delicious. But the 3 bartenders kept doing shots with 2 customers who were buying. Is that how it's done at a Mellow Mushroom? Or is this a party bar? I don't know, kind of odd to me. Love the pizza, enjoy the beer choices. Don't bother with sandwiches, and roasted potatoes. Service is not always like this, as I've been here before. Don't come to this place. Worst service ever.. we arrived at this restaurant and after placing our order for appetizers we waited about 20 minutes for them to arrive. I ordered soup which came first. By the time my partner's appetizer came out I was half finished my soup. We waited another 40 minutes for our main course I ordered a half salad and a half order of wings. My partner ordered a cheeseburger. After waiting over 40 minutes, we asked how much longer it would take for our food. Our waiter left us for another 15 minutes and then came back to tell us that it would take another 10 minutes for our food. We love mellow mushroom. We are regulars at our local MM. This review is specifically for this location only. I really hope peeps at this location read Yelp reviews and hopefully take cues from it. Off course that's if they want to improve the overall experience... if not just keep trucking along than. First off the food was pretty close to be at par with other MM we've eaten. We had a mushroom soup, the pretzels bites and our go to pizza the "Holly shiitake mushroom". The only near miss was the crust being close to being burned. Still eatable and yummy. The soup was awesome and the pretzels bites were delicious. Now, the reason for the 3 stars. The restaurant itself is a bit dated, visibly dirty, smelly at the entrance and the bathrooms were in a state worst than a truck stop on a bad day o.0 The service was just ok. Everything came at once. The soup, pizza and bites. What gives on that? Waiting 20 minutes for a bowl of soup? That's not cool to all. And mind you it was pretty calm. Only a few patrons. Waters were left empty without refilling. Those are minor but could improve easily. We would not come here again even if the food was good since our overall experience was meeehhh. read more

Disgusting. We stopped in on our way to North Carolina today. We just wanted a quick snack after 5 hours of driving. My daughter and I headed straight for the restroom. The first stall had a wet floor sign blocking it. Someone was camped out in the second stall, so I tried the third. Thankfully I checked for toilet paper first. Empty. I had to go out to the first stall to grab TP. The sink area was gross and only had the remnants of a paper towel roll for hand drying. There was an air dryer, but those are unhygienic. The garbage can was overflowing as well. This doesn't bode well for a dining experience. I immediately told the hostess and she said she would tell her manager. The food was fine. However, there were areas of concern. Most importantly, I saw kitchen staff with facial hair not wearing protection over their beards. And where we were seated, a vacated table sat without being bused. Nobody wants to look at other people's garbage while they eat. I get that there are labor shortages, but this location appeared to have plenty of staff. There was no sense of urgency or care for the customer experience. We normally love Mellow Mushroom, but I'd steer clear of this location. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more

This Mellow Mushroom location was terrible absolutely terrible, June 27 Sunday around 6 pm all the other restaurants have a long wait, so we decided to eat here. Mistake. Dirty, Slow, if they even remember your order your ahead of the crowd. Cold Pizza, chicken wings subpar( but the best part of the meal. Spinach dip came after the cold 1/2 cooked pizza and tasted greasy. $123.00 later regrets. One saving grace to this dirty, miserably managed location, was the bartender.if this restaurant scores 100 on health inspection, I seriously question the inspection. Now we understand no line, but still took 20 minutes for them to recognize we were waiting for a table. read more

on a road trip and stopped in Florence for an overnight and decided to eat dinner here. It was my first time and I have heard great things about this restaurant, the moment we walked in we were told there would be a 45 min wait for our food as they were behind in the kitchens. The place was not that busy and the kitchen looked fully staffed. We decided to stay and eat. I ordered the soup which took about 20 mins to arrive and when it did it was cold. I was finally able to catch my server and ask her to have it heated for me. Took another at least 15 mins to get it back to me. We also ordered salads which took a long time as well. Yes we were told there would be a wait but we ordered food items that did not require any cooking. We did his on purpose to avoid the long wait, and we were told by our server the wait would not be as long for soups and salads as it would be for pizza and other made to order dishes. read more

During my brief visit to grab a to go order, the waitress helping me was NOT wearing a mask (truly shocking-- like what world are you living in) and proceeded to open my pizza box and breath all over it (while "checking to make sure it's right"). As a first time customer to Mellow Mushroom, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was looking for gluten and non sugar items on the menu and the name was enough to give it a try... Arriving with 10 minutes left to Happy Hour, I was quick to ask for the selections. Huge variety of beers so I was hooked. I enjoyed a Gaelic ale crafted in Asheville NC. But I had never seen a "Blended Beers" section on a menu. Listed was what they called a Chocolate Covered Banana, a blend of a British cider and Young's Chocolate Stout....I've got to try that sometime. A fellow reviewer recommended the mushroom soup appetizer and it was very good. My wife had a Greek Salad and I had a "Mighty Meaty" pizza. It was very tasty and filling. Solid place to stop for food and beer. Good happy hour(4-7), great array of local and craft beers, and many great menu options. It's a chain along 95 staffed by younger kids so it's gonna have plenty of short comings and issues. I stopped in with a coworker last night while on the road and we're both looking for a lighter option. She had a small Cesar salad and white personal pizza and said both were solid. My full Greek salad was massive and super loaded up with olives, pepperocini, and feta. I was very satisfied w the salad, especially for the price, except with the dressing that came with it. Kinda tasted like creamy Caesar and u don't remember what she called it. I ordered a herbed oil and vinegar that worked well enough. I also had half of the grilled portabela and artichoke sandwich. Came with sundries tomatoes, melted feta, and topped with sprouts. The waitress recommended it on a pita. This sammich is phenomenal! Highly recommended. Food was pretty solid all around, but the service sucked. Took our waitress 10mins to get me the second salad dressing. I was starving and just starring at it... Then I was charged for the replacement? Than don't serve creamy death with a Greek salad. A handful of times we needed some and she was MIA or filling pints for another table. Excellent road trip stopping point--one minute off the highway! Kids had cheesy bread and parents each got a small because there were too many good specialty pies to choose from! And we loved everything! It was hard not to order a few to go--but we still had three hours ahead of us. It wasn't busy when we were there (5:15 on St. Patricks Day) and the service was super friendly, helpful, and fast. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Server stopped by quickly and we ordered drinks. Margarita was bland and uninspiring. Three times the server had to report back that the beer I ordered was not available. Finally, success. Did the make your own pizza. After 1/2 hour we were told, no roasted tomatoes, but we could switch to regular tomatoes. Call me crazy, but I would think that since a roasted tomato starts with a regular tomato, one could easily createe the roasted version, no. Thin crust was thick. Pizza was comparable to gourmet Dominos. My bad for having any expectations of a stone baked "higher order of pizza". read more

This is my first Yelp review. I am writing becside I witnessed the most unprofessional, hurtful behavior by the kitchen staff at this restaurant directed towards another customer. We were seated, and I heard the table behind us asking politely where their food was, because they had been waiting over an hour, and they had also seen other customers who came in after them receive their food. The waitress politely told them that the pizza oven was backed up, so they asked if they could get their salads. Their salads came out a few minutes later, and then another restaurant employee came over to them berating them and loudly telling them that it had only been an hour since they ordered their food. and that they should just be patient because It would be out soon. The customers told this employee that they had actually been waiting an hour and a half. The waitress came over and said the manager wasn't coming out, but offered them coupons for a future visit, which they polirely declined. They were not offered any other compensation. Their pizzas eventually came out, but they still did not have plates or napkins, which took a few minutes longer. They also ordered a burger which came out several minutes after the pizza. They were polite with the staff the entire visit. They paid their bill and as they were walking out the door, the entire kitchen staff cheered and clapped VERY LOUDLY. A manager yelled at them, repeatedly, "I told you not to do that!!!" The family stopped in the doorway and were clearly upset, but they left peacefully. I was mortified, upset, and heartbroken for them that they were treated this way. This behavior by adults is unacceatable!!! I hope these employees are reprimanded. I will not step foot in this restaurant again because of how I saw them treat this family. The waitress was nice, but the food was mediocre at best. read more
