Stopped in Florence for the night and this restaurant was within walking distance from the hotel. The food was basic. Mostly pizza. Very kid friendly. They also offer vegan cheese which was a nice surprise for my dairy allergic son. Service was par. All in all we probably won't go again. The pizza was excellent. Ingredients were fantastic and the crust was great. The service was horrible. The restaurant was only seating half capacity, but our waitress took 15 minutes to even show up. She had runners bring our appetizer, then we didn't see anyone for over 40 minutes. No, not our waitress, another runner brought our pizza and calzone. We had to set our appetizer plate on the bench next to us, where it sat until after we left. We never saw her until we were done, when she finally brought the beer we had ordered. Our bill was totally divided wrong. But she dropped the bills off and disappeared. We ended up just paying for our friend and left. This was our first visit and we're not sure we'll go back. We frequent the Mellow Mushroom in Fort Lauderdale often. It's always clean, fast, and delicious! We were at the Mellow Mushroom in Durham, NC yesterday. That was also excellent! So, when we had to make a stop with our family of five we thought it was a smart choice. Sadly, we were wrong. First, there was a 15 minute wait for the table. There was not a wait because it was busy. I was told there was a wait because the servers needed time to catch up. It was not at a prime time. We finally got our table. Our server, who seemed half asleep, was less than enthusiastic. We had our dog. She was not welcomed with water like at the other locations. We ordered a burger. There were no burgers. I ordered a Greek salad, as I did yesterday in Durham. I ordered it exactly the same. It was abysmal and I am disheartened to learn that the chef feels it was okay to send it to our table. It was basically brown iceberg lettuce with a sliced, white onion and one olive. Oh, there was a pepper and one, lone tomato slice. Our Funky Chicken pizza was worse. The crust was supposed to be thin. It wasn't. It was basically chicken covered with yellow cheese and lukewarm BBQ sauce. We canceled our pretzel bites, because it took over an hour to even get our food! The manager was apologetic and didn't charge us. That's not the issue. We would have gladly plaid. We are just sad that the citizens of Florence think this is representative of the Mellow Mushroom. I wish I had one good thing to say about this Restaurant. I've been to two other Mellow Mushroom locations (Chattanooga, TN and Newport News, VA). On a drive up on 95 we decided to eat here today - as a dependable place. I was quickly disappointed by the lack of greeting by the 'hostess.' After waiting for a long time before anyone acknowledged our table, the server was rude and very short with us. Every time she approached our table she acted like we were inconveniencing her. The restaurant was dirty... floors, tables, booths, glancing into the kitchen on the way to the bathroom, there was food and garbage all over the floor. There was a full bug trap thing on the way to the bathrooms. My salad was good, but the bottom pizza crust was so burnt it was hard to cut. I grew up in the restaurant industry and admittedly have high service expectations. But the condition of the restaurant, burnt food, and bad service made for an unpleasant experience. It'll be a while before I try another Mellow Mushroom. read more

Pros: Pizza tasted amazing! Ordered the house special to split with my father-in law and it was scrumptious. The manager was great about answering all our questions when it came to the gluten allergy of my sister-in law. Cons: When we walked in the hostess did not know what takes were available for new customers. My husband had gluten free pizza for the first time and he said that is was bland and there was too much pesto. Service took forever from ordering to getting the pizzas and we only ordered three for the five of us, 2 gluten free and 1 special. I went with my wife and 19 year old daughter as it was her birthday and her choice. At first glance inside it looked a little too "youthful" for me but hey I'm 50. Anyway after our appetizer of baked thai wings, Wow, some of the best wings I've ever tasted. Got a small greek salad and the angus burger. Salad was huge and all fresh ingredients, burger was great! My kid got the "white pizza"? No tomato sauce but had feta cheese and other toppings. Homemade dough and definitely not you average pizza, awesome!. Good service too. I have been to several Mellow Mushrooms and had a pretty good idea of what to expect by going here. I must say, that we dined here twice over this past weekend, and great experiences both times. Friday night we got food to-go. Like other restaurants they have specific parking for to-go orders and will bring it out to your car. On Friday night both my husband and I had calzones- which in the past has always been our go to order at the MM. We had a jerk chicken and pineapple calzone and a chicken and bacon calzone. Before ordering a calzone, know this- they are HUGE. You could easily split one between 2 people. As always, the bread was delicious (they use molasses in the crust) filled with generous portions of stringy cheese and chosen fillings. Mine has given me 3 meals. My husband ate his in 2. We were actually in town for a tennis tournament, and the other members of the team wanted to try the MM out after our match on Sunday. We arrived at 1pm with a party of 9. They were able to get us seated almost immediately. Members in our party had a bit of everything. Someone had the tomato soup, which arrived with a cheese covered piece of french bread floating in it. He said it was VERY good. 2 of us had salads, and the portions were generous. I'm not sure if all MM's are doing this now, as I have never seen it before- but I did the build your own salad option. As I have food allergies, this is a great option for me. We had 3 calzones, 2 house calzones, and 1 steak calzone- everyone thought they were incredible. We also had 3 pizzas, a veggie, pepperoni, and house. Everyone was very happy with their food, and pleased to have leftovers to take home. We had good service- nothing spectacular, but nothing to complain about. Everyone enjoyed the great selection of beers that they offer as well. I would absolutely dine her again next time I am in town. read more

Egads!! I don't usually Yelp chains unless I have a good reason too. I figured the good people of Florence should know what they are getting themselves into before they head over to the new Mellow Mushroom. This place had been pretty crowded over the last several weeks so I decided to steer clear until the dust settled. This particular Mellow Mushroom has been open for about a month now but seemingly hasn't worked out all the kinks yet (more on this later). First and foremost parking is a chore. The parking lot is very small and you will likely end of stealing a park at the local Target. We went around 5:30 pm on a Saturday and surprisingly were quickly seated. The inside of this place is deceptively large and has a good amount of large tables for big parties. The host/hostesses in the front seemed to know what they were doing and readily seated people without any lines forming. Plenty of benches to sit outside if you have to wait which is nice. Our waitress was way out of her league and was run ragged the whole night. Didn't help that she was taking care of several large tables in addition to our table of five. She forgot to bring my appetizer and was a bit slow on filling the drinks up. The wait for the food was a very long one. I am sure that elephants conceive and give birth in the time it took us to get our food. Granted this place was new but having to wait over an hour and fifteen minutes for just pizza and sandwiches seemed a bit ridiculous. At least the food was hot when it came out. The staff was apologetic which gets them back 1/8 of a star. I tasted the sig-o's calzone which was just average. I ordered the Magical Mystery Tour pizza sans the jalepenos which was pretty good. The food was slightly above average but nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the wait. I would probably call ahead and get another one of their pizzas take out but wouldn't want to dine in until this place gets the kinks worked out. We were driving from DC to Florida and decided to stop here for lunch. I had never been to a Mellow Mushroom. I had just started a diet trying to shed some pounds, so I did not have pizza, I was good and had a salad, which was outstanding. Enlightened Spinach Salad: Fresh spinach topped with dried cherries, apples, homemade candied pecans and feta cheese. Just outstanding. Fresh, innovative, fun, flavorful. My family had pizza and said it was excellent. I asked to see the beer selection, even though I was not having a beer. They must have 40 beers on draft, and outstanding selection. This was a total shock to me. If I lived near a Mellow Mushroom, this might quickly become one of my favorites. Actually there is one in DC (Adams Morgan) and one coming soon to Herndon VA, and I will be sure to dine there! Atmosphere was fun. We were there in the daytime on a weekend and there were plenty of families with well-behaved children. The place looks like it would be fun and festive in the evening. Service was excellent. On our way out, I buttonholed the owner/manager person in charge and told him how much we enjoyed it and that we were from DC. Turns out he is too, and beer is his passion, thus the outstanding beer selections. This will become a regular stop on our trips to Florida. This is located in a huge shopping mall area, and I saw that they have movie deals, so if I was local I would definitely take advantage of these movie offers. read more

We ordered a BBQ pizza and it had a really tasty crust but it was pricey. It was somewhere around $25 for a pizza that was good but not spectacular. I personally have a hard time paying that much for a single pizza. I went here another time and ordered one of their sandwiches and it was definitely nothing to write home about. This place's strong point is definitely their pizza but be prepared to pay a lot for a pizza that was heavy on the crust (albeit a cheesy crust). The staff was friendly both times I've been here. I think they rely heavily on tourists passing through which has impacted their food. We ordered a Greek salad to start and it was just plain iceberg lettuce. Not bad, not good. I got the ruben which was slightly more impressive despite it being a bit salty. The bread was a good quality and flavor. I would order it again. My girlfriend ordered the tempeh on the pita. It was way to saucy and salty. She wasn't able to finish. Wouldn't recommend trying this one. Did appreciate the $2 house wine. The wine was great but eh it was $2 what can you expect. We arrived at 3:50pm. To start off they need new menus, badly!! The cook in the back yells to loud for orders to be picked up...when the place not busy or noise. Didn't take the beverage waitress long to get our drinks order and return. Took the food server along time to come take our order. In general the restaurant area was messing with dirty tables and no wait staff paid any attention to cleaning any area. Floors had napkins and straw wrapper on them. I just went to look around and there was a child birthday party finished up in the back room resturant. So I guess that way it's taking so long. It is now 4:35 no food yet. But a gentleman stopped at our table to tell us it should only be another 5 mins. Food is here and I love it But I have been to 2 different Mellow Mushroom and loved it. Well, the three stars that i gave is just for the taste of food. This was our first time here, there is a big sign that say best voted pizza in pee dee and I'm wondering how??!! The moment we stepped in it looked like a kids play area and you will notice why i said that. The woman who greets at the welcome stand would clearly show signs of laziness on her face. To be honest not even a single member of the staff would greet you with a smile. We placed our order of jerk wings and mellow Mediterranean pizza and spinach artichoke dip. Don't expect your food to come out quick they work real slow. By the time we got our food i was almost sleepy. We got our artichoke dip and it was good i liked it the amount of cheese in the dip the flavor was delicious i can say that they made it fresh. Now after you get your starter it wil take atleast 30 min for them to get other items. Finally i got my wings for which I've been waiting from the moment I ordered them and oh wow they are cold and dry they are so cold that you can say they took it out of the oven and hour ago. I got this to the managers attention and she finally smiled and got my wings reheated. The taste of the wings is bomb. You would love em. What i dont really understand is that I've never seen a restaurant with good food but bad customer service out of which the restaurant itself is projected as a bad restaurant.
