To me, that says a lot about a business--it shows genuine class and a commitment to taking care of its customers. Our server, Jane, was equally fantastic. She went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable and truly embodied the warm Southern hospitality that, as a Northerner, I'm not accustomed to experiencing. Now for the food. My brother and I shared the roasted wings with two different sauces--the Habanero and the Spicy Asian. They were absolutely incredible and, without exaggeration, probably the best wings I've ever had. I also ordered the double cheeseburger with Gouda cheese, and it was unbelievably delicious. My brother had the cheesesteak, and he devoured every bite. He said it ranks right up there with any cheesesteak he's had in Philadelphia, and that's saying something. Don't get me wrong, crust is an important part of a pizza, but an order of bread-sticks holding hands and singing "ring around the rosie" to a small pizza, is not a large pie. It is import to acknowledge thanks, to the new Owners and Management, for bringing Mellow Mushroom back to Macon, after the building was held hostage by people who, just didn't seem to care about running a business. A venue with quality pizzas, appetizers and salads with a selection of craft beers on tap, and a little live entertainment now and then, was sorely missed. Nice job sprucing up the place with the hand-hammered Mellow Mushroom Tin Man outside, the VW bus reception desk inside the front door, and the epoxy-wood-crystal eight-top table in the bar, all touches that suggest quality. In the interest of continuing to have a Mellow Mushroom in the Macon area, I am afraid that I need to suggest that you focus on the essential core-competency of making a quality pizza. Admittedly, I have been avoiding the resurrected Mellow Mushroom, because it has just been too busy for my taste, but on a rainy Thursday night I saw my opportunity to return, and enjoy everything that a Mellow Mushroom should be. I ordered a Large 'Holy Shiitake Pie.' What was handed to me, by a prompt and courteous staff, would lead you to believe that I ordered a large crust with small pizza's worth of toppings at the center. A 10" diameter of cheese in the center of 16" crust. A 3" boarder of crust going around the outside. I have been to a number of Mellow Mushrooms, and fully appreciate the potential of a well-made 'Holy Shiitake Pie.' What you have suffered is an tragic failure to execute on the recipe. With the same ingredients, I could have made a much better pizza, which means you had everything at you finger tips to succeed, and the end result was something that makes me reluctant to return. If you had just made a cheese ball with all the ingredients, and let that ball melt in the middle of the crust, you could have achieved the same result. In fairness a number Mellow Mushrooms, seem to have trouble executing on the Specialty Pies, maybe in some markets they don't get ordered enough, for the staff to remember how to make them correctly. Wow! I must say that this is my now my FAVORITE pizza restaurant in Middle, GA. because of the dough that these guys use. I have been there 2 times in the past month and it remains the same.. Good quality pizza! My first experience was for lunch and I ordered their $5 lunch special which I believe was a slice, salad and a drink. The waitress was nice and my drink never reached the "halfway mark". She then delivered my food promptly and let me eat in peace. My next visit was with my boyfriend and we came in a little on the later side. Our waiter recommended us ordering the "Caesar Pizza" which was a step up from the slice that I had ordered for lunch. I recommend this one to everybody out there!!! It was the best pizza that I've ordered in Macon, hands down. We also had a few beers which were a little more expensive than other bar and grill kind of places, but the selection was clearly about quality. The manager was so terrible. Didn't get her name but I did get her pic. She was more concerned with me posting her pic on social media than resolving the issue. Our waiter; JAMES WAS THE BEST! The issue was: She approached my table to invite us out in 15 minutes although we had to drinks and food left. By far the best place in Macon to grab a tasty pizza and great draft beer (best selection of draft and bottles in Middle Georgia). Not only is the pizza delicious, but the sandwiches and salads are great as well. The have an awesome happy hour for people just getting off work and for accomodating for late night crowd too. Not only is the food great, the people at Mellow Mushroom are awesome too! David Spivey treated the entire family of the Rooms from the Heart's child to lunch while we redecorated her room. I can honestly say that my buddies and I love coming here after long sporting events. The beer and atmosphere makes it a fun place to relax and chat with friends.
