I'm sometimes hesitant with restaurants that get less than 4 stars on Yelp. My expectations were greatly exceeded at my first visit to Mellow Mushroom. We had Dakota, and he was an awesome server. Good recommendations, outgoing, always filling our glasses. He definitely made it a great experience. The Great White pizza was freakin delicious. My wife ordered it and I was lucky enough to snag a few bites. Wow. If I came back, this is what I'd order. The calzones are huuuuge. I'm a big guy and ended up taking half home. The ricotta mixed with the mozzarella gave it added flavor you usually don't get in a calzone. The steak was juicy and shaved very thin. I checked in on the Yelp app, and if you do that, apparently you can get a free salad with a pizza purchase, so ended up with a free Greek Salad. That was an added, unexpected bonus! This is the third Mellow Mushroom location we have been to and are definitely fans. We arrived today at 11:00 a.m. to an empty dining room as they had just opened. We ordered a small Funky Q Chicken pizza minus the onions, a 12" gluten-free pepperoni and mushroom pizza, one salad, and three baked pretzels with beer cheese. Our pretzels come out within about five minutes and our pizzas within 15 minutes. The pretzels are the gold standard - I have never found better and I have tried many from various establishments. The beer cheese is to die for. I hate beer, and I still love this cheese sauce. The Funky Q Chicken pizza is the best bbq chicken pizza I have had in over 15 years. The cheese, chicken, bbq sauce and crust were all spot-on. I also found this to be a very substantial pizza for a small. Four pieces total were more than enough for my daughter and myself - especially after the pretzel appetizer. The GF pizza was the low point of the meal. My wife had a tough time even finishing one piece due to "soggy crust" (yuck). If you have a gluten sensitivity I recommend trying Borgata Pizza Café in Columbus as this is about as good as GF pizza gets. Our waitress was a little awkward, but sweet. I have always enjoyed mellow mushroom. There are, however a couple of issues. The take-out system is extremely disorganized and inefficient. We went in at the prescribed time to pick up the order, they told us that the only thing they were waiting for was the pizza and wings.(these were the only things that were ordered!). It apparently had been ready because by the time that we got the pizza home (3-4 miles), the pizza was only warm. The wings have shrunk in size. And order of 10 wings, three small pizzas and one medium was $85. A bit high in my view for the quality of the experience. I may try it again, but probably not for carry out. read more

Our waiter rushed us to place an order, going as far as to say "I'll give you 5-6 more minutes to choose", only to have us wait an hour for our food to arrive. I got the wings. Wings tasted like they were fried in dirty oil, slapped in the fridge overnight and then nuked in the microwave before arriving to my table. I ate one wing and left the rest. The pizza looked good and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Had to ask the server several times for silverware and napkins. There were only 2 waitresses working the floor but there were 8 people working the kitchen. I first encountered the Mellow Shroom in Savannah. At the time, I thought they did a great job of giving a "chain" a very local feel. Then came Polaris and now New Albany. The ambiance of the NA MM has much more of a chain restaurant feel. That said, the tap selection is fantastic and the service was great. A very THICK and CHEWY dough dominates the MM pizza. Unlike true NY style, the dough is still very thick under the toppings. The toppings were all fine and tasty, but nothing spectacular. While my pie had a great amount of sauce on it, there simply is no zing, bam, zowie or other Batman fight word that can be used to describe its flavor - it's just bland. So, if you're into thick and chewy tasty crust (or looking for a good on-tap beer selection), give MM a try. For me, it's just not my slice of pie. read more

Just moved to the area and had to try this place because we love pizza and it looked cute! We've already gone twice and have only lived here two weeks! Lol we get our usual pineapple and pepperoni pizza which is tasty- our only gripe is that the pineapple is aggressively large and they kind of skimp on it so we ask for extra but then the chunks get kind of out of hand. We've also tried the funky Q chicken which is their bbq chicken pizza and that was also super tasty and would definitely get again. Their garlic bread was good, nothing wild, just French bread with cheese and garlic and marinara on the side but got the job done. Lastly, their chocolate chip cookies were sooooo good and moist and warm! They do a blend of dark and milk chocolate that just melts in your mouth- don't sleep on these! During both visits, my boyfriend and I sat at the bar and felt very prioritized by our bartenders. Consistency is key for us. We ordered a medium sized (14 inch) pepperoni pizza with extra cheese (obviously) and fresh garlic. I am always surprised when pizza places don't offer fresh garlic, so the fact that Mellow Mushroom has it is a definite plus for me. Apart from the actual food, they offer a great selection of beers from around the country but also from many local, Central Ohio breweries. Their bar area is perfect for kicking back with friends or watching sports on their TVs. I also have to comment on their fascinating decor. I avoid this place on Game Nights because I'm not much of a football fan but if you are it looks like it's a pretty jumping place to go watch a football game and enjoy the company of your fellow fans. I like that I can count on quality ingredients in my salad as well as a fresh salad overall. I am allergic to a lot of different things and they accommodate me on all accounts. Always a favorite of ours for pizza. Lunch isn't usually crowded so service is relatively quick. Their service is always good. Helpful and friendly. Highly recommend their pretzels for appetizer. I think I'm officially adding this to my list of favorite places to eat. My family and I love Mellow Mushroom. Everything is made with high quality fresh ingredients. They have a variety of flavors from average to exciting. Everyone can find something to enjoy. They also have a nice selection of gluten free and vegan options. You can switch any meat for tofu. The environment is wonderful. It's clean, upbeat, fun, and family friendly. We love taking our kids. They have a small stack of family board games that you can play. They also love the star wars decor. Last time we went they had a balloon lady going table to table. My personal favorite it the Thai flavored pizza with no cucumbers. Went here on a Thursday evening, it was dead. Took over 50 mins to get a small pizza and calzone. Our waitress disappeared after our food was served; we had to find another waitress just to cash us out. Gave it another chance a few weeks later and used online ordering. We were quoted a pick up time; we show up and have to wait an additional 15 minutes for our food (15 minutes past quoted timso it took well over an hour to be ready. Again, it wasn't busy at all when we were there. The staff always seem more into socializing with one another rather than doing their job. We love mellow mushroom but will no longer come to this location (I'd expect better service given that it's New Albany). We will drive 15 minutes further and go to another location. Update: decided to give this location another shot. Chose carry out. Were quoted a pick up time for 30 minutes when placing order. Arrived on time. Had to wait an additional THIRTY FIVE minutes past quoted pick up to receive our food. All the while there's only a few customers dining in. We may have well just dined in for as long as we sat there waiting. We finally receive our food, only for part of it to be COLD. This location is terrible - I'm really not sure why they struggle so much. Clearly needs new management. If you enjoy Mellow, drive to Dublin. Don't give New Albany your business. read more

Like, the kind of rudeness that makes you never want to patronize a place out of raw principle but also slap someone upside the head for operating in a service-based industry in the first place. Staff here just could not care less. New Albany can be a wacky place for food service, so I guess there's that.
