I usually love Paulie Gee's Short North, which made this experience especially disappointing. We spent over $80 on a to-go order that included two Gina's Gem, a big cheese pizza, and a salad. The pizza arrived cold but was still edible. Unfortunately, the Gina's Gem was nothing like what was advertised. I was expecting warm, crusty bread with a roasted cheese dip on the side so you could tear pieces of bread and dip them into the cheese. Instead, the cheese had already been spread directly onto the bread and toasted together. Because of that, the bread lost the texture you would expect--it wasn't crusty or dippable at all. It ended up soft, almost soggy, and the cheese was baked onto the bread rather than being a dip. The whole appeal of the dish was supposed to be the warm bread with the roasted cheese to dip into, and that part was completely missing. Included with the bread was a hot honey that missed the mark on being "hot" and some kind of jam. These options just made everything even more soft....which should have been impossible. The salad was actually the best part of the meal - even though it was a bit spicy. I've always had good experiences here in the past, so this was a big letdown--especially for the price. I just wish the to-go version of the dish matched how it's described, or that expectations were set correctly when ordering. Unfortunately, this experience made me lose all trust in ordering from here again. I can't believe we waited until exactly 3pm (when they opened) to order this.... At the very least the pizza should have been hot. read more

First time at Paulie Gee's (I know, late to the game) and holllllly moly. We went on a Sunday right when they opened at 3pm and got seated immediately. The Sunday special includes any two pizzas and a salad for $40 and we couldn't pass up this deal! The Caesar salad was absolutely phenomenal, topped with freshly shaved parm and bread crumbs, and mixed with this incredible spicy red pepper that was so delicious, we asked for more on the side. Both pizzas left us speechless as well, I really don't think you can go wrong with whatever you order. Service was great, food was prepared quickly, and there is plenty of seating and a bar area. Loved the eclectic atmosphere and decor. Kind of a trip back in time of an older pizza parlor. Waiter was helpful with sizing and how much pizza three dudes should get. It's New Year's Eve and I'm kicking off the new year with some pizza! I'm giving this pizza spot another try. I ordered the Hellboy and Rickey Too. Fingers crossed they are good. I love the vibe tonight. They are playing oldies which was great while I waited for my pies to cook in their brick oven. Nothing like sitting in the dim lights and listening to Dancing Queen and Betty Davis Eyes. Even though I'm ordering to-go, my server was super friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are clean and the labels are great, you gotta go use them to see what I mean. Anyways Paulie Gee's is easily my favorite pizza in Columbus so far. Im personally a fan of their Neapolitan pizzas but they offer thick "squares" as well. The dough is soft and crunchy with the perfect amount of leopard spotting/ash without being burnt. I'm sure they use 00 Flour so I know it's quality! I love their sauce and cheese as well. The restaurant itself isn't too shabby, there's a lot of seating and a bar available as well. They have daily specials if you're dining in so look it up ahead of time, my friends and I went on the night that offered 3 pizzas for $45 total. So many people have told me this is a must try in the Short North and I finally made it. I'll describe Paulie Gee's as gourmet pizza with working adult prices. I love how they cook your pizza in a wood fired oven open for all to see. The crust reminds me of pizza that I've had in Brooklyn Heights. They serve quality toppings that actually cover the pizza. I opted for the Pep and Sausage square. Visually it was smaller than I was expecting at that price level, but the flavors made up for any indifference I had. The cheddar crust is perfect. Toppings are piled up, it's just tasty. We also ordered the Donna. Cooked perfectly for us. Both pizzas were excellent reheated the following day. Service was great. I would suggest calling in and ordering because online the price for the same pizza was $32 for some reason. The pizza was thick and had the great crust. The toppings were delicious and plentiful. I went to Paulie Gee's for the first time tonight but I e been to many other pizza places in Columbus before. I can co directly say this is the best pizza in Columbus. THE CRUST! Its chefs kiss perfect. It has good structure but also gives a little and has good ratio with toppings. Wood fired adds a delightful taste and crisp. One of the people I dined with got a deep dish and I was very impressed with this as well- super crispy cheese on the edges, and well incredible. I'm not sure if I'll do a deep dish or a traditional next time because they are both so good. The only criticism I'd say is we ordered the Caesar salad and it really was quite spicy and I didn't expect it. I wish they had more sides and maybe even a dessert menu but they do pizza extremely well so I'm glad they at least do that and offer a lot of variety in terms of toppings and crust type! Just arrived at Paulie Gee's after a nice night at the Columbus Arts Fest looking forward to some excellent pizza. We've been here before and don't get to the Short North often but since we were downtown we were excited to go. Checked website for hours and also other sources and all said open until 10:00. Had to circle around a few times to find parking but we were committed. We arrived at 9:32 and went straight to the bar and we're about to sit and the bartender asked "can I help you" and my boyfriend said we just want a pizza and beer. She said, rather rudely, we only have take out after 9:30. I was like, oh, geez, can we just sit here in the corner and have a beer and pizza? And she said "No, it's only take out after 9:30." I was so taken aback that we just walked out. Now, we are not douches that show up at a restaurant right before it closes, but we felt 9:30 on a Saturday for a pizza and beer at the bar was okay. Nowhere on their website does it say carry out only after 9:30. And it was 9:32! I don't like giving bad reviews, especially if I know the food is good, but I'm so angry and annoyed at the entire situation. Unfortunately, my boyfriend holds grudges so we won't be back.
